Of Mr Kitridge

[Nordic Witch]

The first you see is the fishing gear hanging on pins left of the doorway. The librarian is a bit fishing obsessed so he has brought some fishing equipment if time lets him explore the great lake’s fishing possibilities. The next thing you feel is cozy warmth emanating from the roaring fire place nearby. Remembering the chilliness of the halls and rooms in the castle from his years here Mr Kitridge has taken steps to see too that at least one place is warm and comfortable. In the center of the office you see what should be a desk under all the stuff currently placed on it like charts, crammers, stacks of books, an odd telescope or crystal ball and last but not least a big bowl of candy. Behind the desk, a large comfy chair with a pillow in it is situated.

Hanging on the walls around the office are portraits of former notable librarians like Madam Pince, Madam Rowena, Angela Kohan, David Kapoor and Madam Donovan. The collection of portraits/photographs is completed with some Kitridges who've been successful in some way or other through the course of time. No office of a librarian is complete without a curvy s-shaped bookshelf.

Laura smiled as she walked over quietly to the Librarians office. She was in a happy mood today and it was mainly thanks to the Librarian, even since she had won him at the auction a couple of terms back and she had seen the other side of him and he had said that she wasn't that bad. He was one of her favourite people at this school.

Laura looked at the door then making sure her hair was nice and her appearance was presentable, she knocked on the door and then waited and hoped that the Librarian was in his office.

Smoothing out his robes and pulling a hand through his hair Leo went over to open the door. Looking out at Laura Hyde his face turned into a beam. "Good day, Laura! Want to come in?"

Laura smiled when the door opened, she was glad that the Librarian was in because it meant she could thank him before she forget. "Good day, Sir." Laura smiled. "I would love to come in." Laura smiled at the Librarian, she was in such a good mood at the minute. "So did you enjoy your summer?" Laura had no idea what a Librarian did in the summer but she hoped it was something fun because he deserved it.

Leo turned on his heels expecting Laura to follow him inside and close the door behind her. Over his shoulder he called. "Would you like some tea or something? I've got freshly baked cookies." Pouring himself a cup of coffee he sat down in one of the comfy chairs and took a sip of the warm substance. "My summer was quite good." he nodded. "How was your summer Laura?" And what was the purpose of this visit, hmm.

Laura sat down opposite the Librarian and took out a tin of chocolates. "Sir, I know we shouldn't get adults gifts but well I wanted to thank you." Laura had only started studying after the chat with the Librarian. "I got seven owls this summer, DADA and Transfiguration were O's and Potions and Muggle Study were E's, History of Magic, Astronomy and COMC were A's whilst the rest unfortunately were fails." Laura was a bit upset about that, but she was working hard to improve her scores in the subject.

Leaning over to give to her left arm a little squeeze he said "It's not the end of the world dear, that you failed some exams, it happens. It’s what you do to come back that’s matters. If you work super hard I'm sure you can show those ministry officials when you sit your NEWT's next year that you deserve better grades in the subjects you failed."

Pushing the tin of chocolate back towards Laura he said "Thank you for this gift but I don't deserve it Laura. You've done all the work. Hearing your wonderful news is a gift in itself."

Laura was sure that was one of the reasons that she hadn't done so well and she was a bit upset about the charms OWL had had she got O in transfiguration but a P in charms she couldn't work that out, but she was going to do super hard to get the grades up. "Don't worry sir, I'm going to try my hardest to improve my grades."

Laura watched as the Librarian push the chocolate back towards her and then she pushed them back towards him. "I am glad you enjoyed my news sir, but I brought those chocolates especially for you." Laura was hoping he would take them.

Leo sipped on his coffee some more as Laura talked. Pausing in mid lifting off his cup he commented quietly. "It seems to me that you've learned a valuable lesson dear. But don’t stare yourself blind at what you should've done. The past is the past and the future is unwritten and ahead of you."

"Be proud of what you've accomplished and then work hard to see to that your future becomes what you want it to be." Setting his coffee cup down on the table and picked up the chocolate tin again. "Thank you Laura. I'll try some chocolates later." Leo knew that it was no point in refusing the gift. It was after all the sixth years way of saying thanks.

Laura smiled. "That is good sir." Laura was glad he was accepting the gift because she wasn't going to leave without him taking the gift, which he had now which was good. "So sir, I was wondering if I could help you in the Library some times?" Laura thought it would be good to help him because he was the one that had helped her.

Taking another cookie from the plate Leo listened attentively as Laura spoke her mind. It was a relief to hear that the teenage girl now was focused on the future and not what had been. What was in the past; was in the past and you couldn’t change that but you could impact the future with the choices you made. "I'm glad," Leo said simply. "So, do you need any new books or such to assist you in your studies?"

Chewing on the cookie, he lifted up his cup of coffee to take a sip when Laura caught him totally off guard with her offer to help him out around the library. Coughing on the cookie he said. "Of course you can help around here some time but I thought you were intent on focusing on your studies and getting your grades up in certain subject’s?" Or had Leo totally misunderstood Laura?
