Janus Thickey WardHas your role-play reached its natural conclusion or fallen under a barrage of spells? If so, it will be kept here for permanent care.
It is a cool October evening on James' twenty-first birthday and Cassie is of course determined to make it special. She has spent her whole day cleaning out and fixing up an old barn on the outskirts of the town. Her plan is to throw James a surprise birthday day party and because of that she hadn't even gone to see him, of course she sent an owl but that was about it. She figured he would use the time to do what he wanted with his family anyways, since they were almost always out of town on business or traveling.
Dusk falls as she puts the finishing touches on the barn, hopefully the guests would arrive soon so everyone could get into place and she could leave to lure the birthday boy in.
As you enter the barn your senses are kicked into high gear as the smell of the food (pumpkin pies and all sort of pastries and food, butterbeer, firewhiskey and all things you might have seen at the opening feast) greets you at the door, the lights flash a bright orange and yellow and a soft music is playing (for now). The air is only just a bit warmer in here. There are chairs and tables lined off at the side and of course there is a dance floor. When the party starts, don't be shy, grab somebody and hit the dance floor.
Your host is waiting at the door to welcome you in.

Lauren loved helping friends, and she loved planning parties so when she was given the opportunity to do both, she jumped on it! The location had puzzled her when she just found out about it, a barn? But after saw the place, and helped clean it up, the ideas came at her she saw the potential in having a very awesome party. She ordered pretty much everything and saw to it that everything was brought on time and strategically placed so everyone would know where what was.
Fixing the final centrepiece she turned to Cassie with a frown "Of course everythin's perfect," She'd helped hadn't she "And he better like it and no, I don't. Stop fussin' it's too late for fussin', put on your pretty little face and grin at everyone who comes on in here. Nothin' to worry about, I'll be right here to put out fires if need's be." She gave an encouraging smile and smacked her lips "Now you sure you put the right time on the invahts?" She was teasing of course but she hoped Cassie would calm down, it was sink or swim now and she had no intention of sinking.

Right right, Lauren was right. Cassie nodded vigorously causing her dark hair to bounce along with every nod. This whole freaking out business was just not her, but this party had to be perfect or as perfect as it could get. Cassie chuckled, put out fires , if Lauren only knew..with a guest list like this one there was almost a guarantee that fires would need to be put out."You have no idea how on point you are girly...nooo ideeea."
She threw an alarmed look in Lauren's direction. That wasn't even funny and she didn't have a copy of the invite to double check. It was still a bit early after all but what if she had put the wrong time on the invites? Oh no. SWhe bit her bite and her eyes reflected the worry she was feeling. "Oh my gosh, Lauren, what if I did put the wrong time?"

Salander crossed the wide threshold of the barn, looking about with a peculiar grin on his face. In his hand was his wand levitating Jim's gift. He saw Cassie and another guest has arrived "Hey there Cassie!" He greeted the former Hufflepuff. "Pretty interesting venue you got here" Maybe his gift wasn't that far off after all.
Speaking of gifts "This is for the birthday boy..." he started as he hovered the large basket and flipped it open "... only the finest bubblys and delicacies in all of the Wizarding World"(pretend they're all expensive Wizarding brands ;))
"Lexi will be coming along shortly, just needs to get some stuff squared off." he added, glancing back out of the barn rather impatiently. He did tell her he had the gift already right? Or maybe she had her own gift. In any case their own gift was signed From Sal and Lexi

Nope, she brought no gift. Well, she bought a card. Good enough, right? Ignore the fact that it was a 12th birthday card instead of 21st. Clinging on to a certain Ex-Gryffindor's hand like it was the end of the world, Evelyn sighed. It was just...it was a barn and it smelled sweet inside, and she didn't do well in sweet smelling places. Mix that with the fact that this was stalker boy's surprise party...

One hand holding Evelyn's and one hand holding a half-eaten apple, Josh Carter walked into the barn place along with the ex-Slytherin girl. He seemed to be content of himself as he looked around the place except the fact that he had started to feel a little bit jealous. He wanted a surprise birthday party in a barn too. It was just the perfect place for a party...after stables, of course.

''Looks good.'' he said as he eyed the thing Stradivarius Salander was carrying as well. Was he supposed to bring something so big? Eeeeh...it was already too late to do anything about it anyway. He could just pretend Evelyn's gift was his as well if she had thought of bringing anything.

Cassie turned and grinned at Lauren as the first guest arrived. "Salander!" She hurried over and gave him a big hug. Partyly she was relieved that she had sent out the right time and two well, it was Sal. She released him and beamed at him.
"Woah Sal, he's already getting a party, thats a big and expensive gift." She smiled at him and then peaked into the floating present. "very nice." Oh good, Lexi was coming, she was sure James would really appreciate seeing her here. "There's a table at the back of the barn for gifts you can leave it there."

Seemed there would be a steady inflow of guests now, good good they could start on time. If she had planned it out right James should be done with his gardening by now and looking to go have a shower. Definitely enough time for everyone to get there. She grinned at Evelyn and Joshua as they walked in. " I guess I can tell Lauren to tell the elves we'll no longer be needing their service. Hey Ev." Because she was so seriously going to send elves after the girl if she hadn't turned up. Waaait..she was here with Joshua..were those two back together? Double take.
She grinned at Josh. Man, she had missed him, still crazy though...and hungry.
"The food's to the side Joshua but it's not eating time yet and you will have no need for alternative exits, mmkay?" Yeah so be on your best behaviour Joshua Carter.

Lexi Kennedy_ Salander wandered in a bit later with her hands clasped behind her back, eyes moving through the small crowd for Sal. Dear Merlin... she already wanted to leave. Not that she would, though... she HAD to give Jim his gift. Hehe. And she needed a hug, they were magic hugs, she was sure of it.
Making her way to Stradivarius she slid her arm through his and grimaced at the tacky display that gift made. Hehe. He was presh, though. "I finally made it. I had some trouble getting the kids to let me go long enough to leave," she explained with a smile. Turning to Cassie she nodded in greeting and said, "It all looks rather lovely, Cassie. I am sure Jim will love it."
... She would be a good girl tonight and not raise her voice at anyone (unless it was her husband... she could do that and it was no one's business) and she was going to avoid certain people like the plague... or dragonpox. Hmmm she wished someone would get dragonpox...

Two years out of Hogwarts and he honestly hadn't spent much time with his former classmates and housemates. Legend and Josh were the only ones really seeing as they kinda had to working together and all and being friends in Josh's case. Oh and Carter when they ran into each other...and Kyle of course. Most especially Kyle. Merlin he was still getting used to the fact of having a girlfriend again.
Speaking of which, the former Ravenclaw was at his side as they reached the location they were supposed to show up at. A barn as the invitation had mentioned, a location on the edge of town where the party was to occure. Thankfully despite having been running a little late in picking Kyle up after grabbing a gift, they appeared to still get there before the birthday guy.Definantly a good sign when attending a surprise party. Though admittedly the last one he had attended was his own his 7th year.
"Hey guys," he greeted with a soft casual smile taking notice of their host Cassie and those guests already there. Guests that he should have expected to be there for Jimmy's party despite only knowing of one or two coming by a convo at work. The small wrapped gift safe in the crook of the arm not nearest his companion.

The former Ravenclaw was kind of nervous tonight - mainly because well, she was a plus one at a former Ravenclaw's surprise birthday. And she was here with her boyfriend - and she was getting used to that honestly. The last surprise birthday she had been to had been the same surprise Birthday set up by Kurumi Hollinberry for Simon Bennett. It was surely going to be an interesting night.
In her hand she had the little box she had picked out for Jimmy - yes she had found the time to pick up a quick gift before going to the barn-party. Which to its credit looked quite beautiful.
"Wow"she smiled, "this truly looks wonderful" she smiled to Cassie and Lauren. Glancing around the room she recognized quite a few of the people amongst them - Lexi and Salander being among them. And of course Josh - who she hadn't exactly seen since school.
Well - to be honest she recognized almost everyone but she hadn't exactly ever spoken to all of them. She had been the awkward quiet - and super clumsy girl while back at school. And today she was still just as clumsy. She just hoped Jimmy would like the hilarity of her gift after all memories were memories good and bad.
As she looked around she let her hand reach out for Simon's - she was kind of nervous after all this was the first occasion she went to as his girlfriend. And she was just getting used to it. "H-h-hi everyone" she smiled nervously and moved to tuck her hair behind her ear.

Fletcher showed up... when Fletcher showed up, and did whatever a Fletcher does, as usual. He wasn't entirely certain whether or not Rae was going to join him, but he'd been invited and he'd left a note for her on the table, so he was assuming she would be joining him eventually.
Thing was, he just really wanted to surprise somebody... at a surprise party... with a surprise. He hadn't brought a gift, no, because he wasn't a big spender like Great Interrupter over there, but he did think Jimmy might enjoy a free tattoo or two on him. You know, courtesy of his new shop and all.
Walking into the party like he was walkin' onto a yacht, hair strategically dipped below one eye, he was wearing no apricot. He had one eye on the food and drinks as he walked by, and all the girls all like two of them dreamed that they'd be his wifey...
He was so vain, he probably thought this party was for him. But no, seeing all his old classmates shook Fletcher back to reality, and he started grinning as he walked over to Sal and Cassie. Heyyyy ole buddy. "Aren't we supposed to hide or something?"

Lauren was being awfully quiet but she figured it must be a little odd for the girl considering she didn't know three quarter of the people there, no matter she could play host with Cassie and just keep everyone happy and entertained.
Right, her guests. She beamed at Lexi, genuinely pleased with her comment. She was doing a good job with appearance quite confident but she was nervous about this party. " Thank you Lexi, I really hope he does." And he better too.
Shortly after Lexi's arrival more guests started to arrive. She smiled warmly at them all. Simon and his girlfriend. Hmm she recognized the girl's face too. "Welcome welcome, we have drinks over there if you want anything and thank you." She took note of the young woman's clothes. "Cute outfit I like it." And she did, autumn was her favourite season, so much variety in how you could mix and match pieces of clothing
Then in strut the hufflepuff pretty boy. She was only a fourth year when he became champion but she still remembered him, all the girls did actually, how could you not? She smiled at him and nodded. "Well yeah Fletcher but not everyone is here yet and Jim isn't." So as soon as the last few guests arrive, she could pop out and go lure James to the barn giving them enough time to hide and stuff.

Lexi smiled and waved her fingers at Kyle as she recognized the former Eagle. She had always been such a lovely girl! Lexi was glad to see her among the guests. Her eyes did swipe the crowd for her FAVORITE FEMALE EAGLE, though. WHERE WAS NEPTUNE BOTT? Lexi would DIE if Tuney didn't show up. Period. (Well DIE was a strong word... she would be sad for sure, though.)
A slight frown tugged at her lips as she spotted Fletcher. SIGHS FOR LIFE. She adored him, secretly... she just heartily disapproved of his current line of work. He was SO talented and a TriWiz champ... he could do better than TATTOOS AND PIERCINGS. Sighs at Fletch. He looked nice, though. Heh.
"You're most welcome. And I assure you, all of these people here that he hasn't seen in so long will be gift enough within itself to make him happy. You truly know what he loves most," Lex said to Cassie very sincerely. Jim was a man of simple pleasures. Friends meant a lot to him... he was not materialistic in the slightest. Cassie had done quite well. "Do you need a hand with anything at all?" she asked with a glance around.

Kyleigh looked up when she heard someone walk into the room. Well - he more or less sauntered into the room like he owned the place. She just had to commend his confidence. Looking a little longer than she meant to she recognized who it had been. Duncan Fletcher - wasn't he with Rae? The girl who had so brilliantly let a niffler loose in Professor Desco-whatever-his-name-was' office?

Lauren was being awfully quiet but she figured it must be a little odd for the girl considering she didn't know three quarter of the people there, no matter she could play host with Cassie and just keep everyone happy and entertained.

And she did, autumn was her favourite season, so much variety in how you could mix and match pieces of clothing
Then in strut the hufflepuff pretty boy. She was only a fourth year when he became champion but she still remembered him, all the girls did actually, how could you not? She smiled at him and nodded. "Well yeah Fletcher but not everyone is here yet and Jim isn't." Yes she had to say she did recognize Lauren but she hadn't been too vocal of a girl in school taking a moment to compose herself Kyle decided it might be time to introduce herself.
"I'm Kyleigh Manning - you can call me Kyle though" she introduced herself to Lauren "I was...kind of the quiet clumsy girl back at Hogwarts. If you ugh saw the end of year feast in 2074 I was the girl who face-planted while walking to the staff table" she admitted with a little laugh. That was a funny moment.

She hadn't seen Lexi since the last day of yearbook - well, since her last day on it, and that was around the time of the potions storeroom fire.
Looking around she had to notice that this whole place, the barn, it looked wonderful. "This looks really wonderful" she smiled at all the delightful decor. Looking over to Lexi, Kyle smiled and quickly sent her a simple compliment (because it was true of course, she only said true compliments) "Lexi I absolutely love your shoes - I'd never be able to wear them what with my lack of balance and everything but they look adorable on you" she smiled. Hopefully that wasn't too much.

Miss former Puff prefect arrived a bit later than planned, alone. She hadn't originally planned on showing up alone, but when Sabel's work called, he went. She didn't give him a hard time about it since he didn't seem too thrilled either, but she did wonder when he would be back home.
There was a small gift bag swinging on the tips of her fingers as she entered the barn, looking first for a place to sit the gift. It wasn't much of anything as she didn't know what to give Jimmy, but some thought had gone into, and that was what mattered right? The thought.
She sure hoped so.
Finding a table that had all the other gifts, she placed it there, and went over to greet the small group that'd already arrived with a grin. "Hi guys."

Tipping her head up she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before turning detaching herself successfully (and without hurting herself, or anyone) from his arm. Don't fall was the mantra going through her little blond head.
Before she could even make it to the table - the former hufflepuff prefect had returned and was talking to the small ground. EEP. It was more people to try not to hurt while she attempted the daring act of walking. Smiling over to Arya she returned her hello, "Hello, I absolutely love your top it looks wonderful on you" she smiled before side-stepping around her "just going to" she lifted the gift and pointed at the table. There she wasn't disappearing on people. Just reappearing by a table.
When she made it over to the table she spotted Evelyn over away from the crowd. "Hi" she smiled sheepishly, "not a people person either?" She asked as she dropped the gift gently onto the table.

Satine clicked into the party on her purple sparkle hills. She had her long purple hair pulled up into a ponytail with the ends of it curled into ringlets. She was very nervous about this party...why you ask...simple she hadn't seen these people in a few years...well five atleast to be exact...since she hadn't finished her final year at Hoggy Warts...it had been a while...and she wasn't sure if anyone would recognize her...

Finlay wasn't too sure how this was going to go. To be honest the guy was pretty surprised that he'd even got any invite. It wasn't as if he'd actually see Jimmy since they had graduated. But it was nice though. He was actually going to see his best friend on his birthday. Could he even call the guy his best friend anymore? Finn still considered James his bestie, but had a feeling the guy probably had different names for him. Oh well. Finn was also considering that it was going to be the first time he'd seen most of the people he went to school with. Living in New York hadn't really done him any favours, and he hadn't exactly kept in contact with anyone. That could mean things might be a little bit awkward. It was a party though so everyone would be nice right? It would be good to catch up too.
At least there was one person he knew would enjoy being with him. Finn smiled, as he turned to face Nia, wrapping an arm around her waist. "How well do you know Jimmy then?" Because you know Finn had hardly known her at school, so he wasn't too sure whether Jim had known her either. He glanced towards the door. They'd go in in a minute. Finn was just giving Nia a few moments to recover from the apparation. You know. He was kind like that.

She held up a finger signally that she'd need to step away for a few seconds..or minutes.
She smiled at the other guests(Arya, Satine, Finlay and his date) as they popped in one by one then looked over her guest list. She then looked at Lauren." Well I guess we might as well get this show on the road then..I guess the other guests will just miss the surprise bit. Everyone who matters is here now anyways." Or whatever, everyone for the most part. She shrugged.
Clearly her throat she walked to the front of the barn to get everyone attention, then she projected her voice.
" Okay guys, I'll need everyone to get into position, hide in the barn and put the lights out. I'm going to get the birthday boy, should take me five minutes tops to get him here. When I get him in and mention the word surprise, thats your cue to yell surprise." She smiled at them.
"Once again, thank you guys so much for coming, I appreciate this a lot and I'm sure James will too."
Once she was done with her little speech she pulled Lauren to the side. "Please just keep an eye on things here for me while I pop out to get the man of the moment." She gave her friend a quick hug and beamed at her."You're awesome for helping you know."
And she popped away.
A few minutes later....
Cassie apparated back to the area in front of the barn holding unto James' hand. As soon as she steadied she released him and offered him a little smile." So I found that odd looking plant thing in that barn over there, yesterday evening and I donno I think you might be able to identify it." She had to admit, she was good a this cover up story thing. She led him into the dark barn, all the while engaging him in light conversation on their way. She stepped into the barn and couldn't even see her fingers in front of her. " So like I was saying, it really surprised me. I've never seen it.."

Simon felt the touch as Kyle took his hand, looking at her and down to their joined hands in response. That was new...being open in front of other people, especially those who had no clue as to have close they might have been during school had things been different. He gave her hand a gentle descret squeeze back as he met her eyes once more before turning back to the others as their arrival was noticed.
The YATI nodding as Cassie welcomed them and offered them drinks or at least pointed them in the direction of the table upon which they were on. "It all looks nice," he commented to the former Hufflepuff who had arranged the evening. As Kyle excused herself Simon was about to point out that they BOTH needed to place a gift on the table but she kissed his cheek distracting him as she let go. Oh boy...he really needed to freshen up on being with a date. Recovering he followed a few steps behind finding not only Kyle but Evelyn there as well.
"But we like her anyway..." Simon said responding to Kyle's question about Evelyn as he placed his gift on the table. The older young man smiling as he lightly teased his friend. Kyle's words might ring true but he certainly didn't hold it against the graduated Slytherin.
And then their attention was drawn away as Cassie raised her voice to get everyone's attention. Time to hide for the surprise it appeared. "Shall we?" he questioned looking to Kyle and taking her hand once more, knowing it would be quicker and less painful if he assisted her.What were boyfriends for after all...right? simon lead them both to a corner of the barn where they could both hide, the location giving them each a spot behind one of two objects or stall walls.

Okay, so Brynn was running a liiiittle late. Her schedule was cray crayyyyyy, but she knew this meant a lot to Cassie, and so the brunette made sure to make it tonight, even if Brynn really never exchanged more than two words with most of the people present. The girl half-jogged up to the barn, peeked in to make sure the birthday boy wasn't there, and then proceeded to go in.
Considering that she didn't know James all too well, she went with a safe bet and got him a sweater. It looked good on the buff mannequin, so she figured James' muscly-ness would fill it out decently. Yeah, Cassie should be thanking her. She set the present with the others and was just about to greet Cass when she announced that the 'surprising' would be happening. Ahaa, looked like a greeting would have to wait.

...he'd seen Finn outside with Nia, but he'd seen Finn back at home, so he didn't wait for him.
Actually, one question. Finlay was the one who had the gifts, right? Either he remembered to bring them...or the envelope and the box were still on the table back home. Er...he'll ask him later...but for now...
