SSRP: In a Whole Heap of Hippogriff Dung

[Jezabel Black]

To recap the last 2 years of Jezabel Khalida Black's busy life: most of her family were brutally murdered by the hired assassin group Team Wolf, lead by a man we only know as Jared; she and her best friends almost died during that summer; two of the same best friends' parents were both killed by Team Wolf as well; the remaining's brother was also killed later in the term.
That's in a very small nutshell.
So now Jez, Nate Stone, Pam Barstow and Jordan Macey are in a sticky situation. With no family (except for two of Jez's older siblings), no solid home, and with the constant fear of Team Wolf on their tail, they have to somehow survive. Easier said than done.

The Blacks, Pam, Nate and Jordan have found a safehouse with Kieran and Lex, but for how long will it last?
On the run yet again, the group has fled Britain and arrived in France, staying with Keegan's friend Leigh Valentine and his family. Des' deadly prediction looms over their heads ...
Jez is being held hostage by Team Wolf, and it's up to her friends to save her. But will they all make it out alive?

OOC: This'll start as the Portkey is taking the four and Jez's siblings to Lex and Kieran's house.

Portkeys. Not that Jez didn't appreciate the difficulty Keegan had gone to to arrange one for them, but they still weren't her favourite means of travel. She stood and brushed herself off, glaring at the old tin can that had brought them back to Scotland. Keegan was already up and getting his bearings too, while Des was slowly rising, wincing as she straightened.
"There's Kieran's house, look!" called Keegan above the wind that was howling around them. He was pointing to a stone two story house nestled between the moor they were on and a huge forest behind it. There was a stream running through, separating the group from the house.
"Please don't say we'll be wading through that," said Des, wrinkling her nose.
"Do you see a bridge?" asked Jez, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, Des, you'll be getting your feet wet." She glanced at her friends, waiting to see what they thought of their new safehouse. "Well?"

"That sucked. Like usual," Nate said, cracking his neck. Normally he wouldn't be cracking his neck, but having landed on his head it seemed necessary. Like most of the group, Nate hated portkeys, and almost couldn't appreciate how much trouble it had been getting one. Standing wearily, Nate looked around for some sort of house, not finding anything until Keegan pointed it out among the thick trees. The house looked rather inviting, especially since none of them even had one anymore. Nate was the first to start walking toward the house, gesturing to Jez, Pam, and Jordan to follow. Then Jez spoke up. One word, one question, and it covered pretty much everything. "Well, I like the fact that it's stone. Stone doesn't burn." It took Nate a few seconds to notice exactly what he had said, but once he remembered that Stone was his surname, he felt a small surge of pride and said to himself, "Haha, no I don't!"

Jez smiled at Nate's remark about the house. "Thank Merlin, or you'd have been toast a long time ago," she said, walking beside him, glancing over her shoulder to make sure the rest were following. Keegan was trying to negotiate with Des about something, and Jordan and Pam seemed similarly shaken by the uncomfortable Portkey but otherwise okay. She ran ahead, loving the freedom of running through grass after being cooped up in the castle and then the train for so long. She turned a few cartwheels as well, just for the heck of it, and ended up walking on her hands, her old mischievous smile back on her face. She hadn't smiled like that in a while.
"Jez, wait," called Keegan, waving his wand at the stream. At once a small wooden bridge appeared, making a safe way over the water. Jez flipped around the right way, and ran to the door, knocking insistently on it until she got an answer. A man in his early twenties with dark hair and forest green eyes cautiously answered the door, his mistrustful look quickly replaced by a smile when he saw Jez. "Tiger!" he said, flinging open the door and hugging Jez tightly. "How long's it been? Five, six years?"
"There about," grinned Jez, wriggling out of the hug and turning to her friends. "This is my cousin Lex. Lex, this is Pam and Jordan, my best friends, and Nate, my, um, boyfriend." She blushed slightly at that, although her smile seemed to get bigger.
Keegan came up behind his sister, putting a hand on her shoulder. Lex's grin became slightly less bright. "Keegan."
"Lex." Jez's brother nodded in greeting, but he didn't smile. Jez glanced between the two, a little confused. Usually Keegan and Lex got on fine. What was up?

Jordan staggered slightly as he stood up, he'd collapsed after his first portkey ride. He squinted at the stone house, fighting the urge to throw up "That was fun," he muttered to himself before trudging towards the house after the others. He spoke up, "Well its a damn sight nicer then my old house," he laughed at the whole situation of things, what had happened in the past two years, from leaving his own family to finding a new one. They were all his family now. As he approached the house with the others, still resisting nausea, he gave a half-wave at Jez's cousin oblivious to the tension between Keegan and Lex.

Pam was quiet the whole time. Just like everyone else, she didn't like portkeys, but she seemed to be able to stand them better. As she walked up to the house, she took her shoes off, enjoying the green grass. Looking up at Lex, she remembered when she was able to make friends with anyone, and realized that she hardly ever smiled. So she thought now would be a good time to start over. She put on her biggest smile, and waved to Lex.

When introduced to Lex, Nate shook the man's hand and gave a curt not, but was quickly falling back into the grass afterward. It really felt good to be outside again after all the time spend indoors. It wasn't bad that they had spent time indoors, because it had kept them alive, but it was still uncomfortable being cooped up, even at Hogwarts. "So Jordan, looks like we'll be rooming together this summer," he said from his spot in the grass. He was friends with Jordan, but all in all Nate didn't actually know Jordan that well. They were in different houses and hadn't really seen each other around that much, so they never really got to talk. This summer would certainly change that. Meanwhile, Nate glanced over toward Pam and saw her smiling for once. "Pam, you're smiling!" he said excitedly, standing up and walking over to her. "Seriously, you're actually smiling! You haven't smiled in ages!" Nate couldn't control himself: he hugged Pam tight right there. Not like it was a problem or anything, but it was still uncommon that Nate would just tackle someone in joy.

Jordan slumped down on the grass a few metres from Nate, laying back on the grass and watching the sky. "Yeah, it looks like we will..." he said, smiling absent mindedly. "it should be fun," he grinned. Hopefully this would give him and Nate a chance to get to know eachother better, they were all in this together after all. He'd been friends with Nate since they were First Years, but they weren't that close really.

Jordan's thoughts were disrupted when Nate started getting excited about something, he looked up and saw Pam smiling and Nate congratulating her about it. That made him laugh, something he hadn't done on a while.

Pam's smile grew as Nate hugged her. Just as she hadn't really smiled, he hadn't really hugged her. He comforted her, sure, but he hadn't given her a real hug in a while. "Hey ther blondey" he smiled at her, before realising that his hair was also mirroring hers in his own happiness, it was a nice feeling really.

Pam blushed slightly, realizing what she just said. "Well, you understand what it's like to have your hair, or eyes, change color without you knowing." She knew he could change his appearance at will, but he also had the same 'issue' she did. "Plus," she said, lowering her voice. "It gets a little lonely, now that those two are together." It had gotten really lonely over the term without them. As Pam was thinking about last term, Keegan walked up to her, with his hands behind his back. "Hey there, Pam." In all Pam's happiness, she had forgotten she was mad at Keegan, for not telling her about her dad. She glared her eyes at him, remembering what he did. "I know you're mad," He began. "But I hope this makes up for it." From around his back, he brought out a covered cage. He opened the door, and out popped a white little rabbit. Pam's eyes grew wide, and her smile with it.
"Snowball!!" She crawled over to Snowball, and watched in excitement as the bunny hopped around her.

Snowball nuzzled into Nate's hand, and then quickly scampered over to Pam again. "I can easily clean her up." She said with a smile. Snowball had never really liked baths, but this time, the little furball was ready to be white again. "Wouldn't you like that?" Pam said, giggling. She then picked up Snowball, lied down, and placed it on her chest. The bunny made herself comfortable, and closed her eyes, for a nap. "Thank you Keegan."

Keegan smiled, crouching down to stroke the rabbit. Jez hesitated, then leant over to pat Snowball too. She'd never touched a bunny before, and it felt nice, warm and fluffy, like a cat but smaller and somehow more friendly. "She's beautiful," she said, stroking Snowball's ears.
Lex however seemed impatient to get them inside. "Come on, it'll be dark soon," he called to the group at large, motioning for them to come inside. Jez got up reluctantly, wanting to stay outdoors a little longer. But she followed Lex, breaking into a run when she saw her uncle standing in the doorway to the kitchen, wiping his hands on a kitchen towel.
"Hi, Kieran," said Keegan, his tone again colder. Jez pulled him aside, really wanting to know what was going on.
"What's your problem?" she demanded in a whisper. "They're being nice to us, at least be warm back."
"Nothing, Jez, don't worry." Keegan seemed distracted, almost brushing Jez off as he edged past her and back to the group. Des glanced at him, then at Jez, shrugging her shoulders with an air of confusion. Jez shook her head, biting her lip worriedly.

"Don't worry Jez. I'm sure everything's fine." Pam smiled, scooped up Snowball, and followed everybody inside. She looked up at Kieran, and smiled. "Hi there. I'm Pam." She stroked the bunny, not realizing how sooty her hands were getting. She looked down at them, and shook her head, her blonde hair falling over her shoulders. "Can you show us around?" Pam asked, bouncing happily on the balls of her feet.

Kieran smiled at Pam, his ice blue eyes glinting behind his thick-lensed glasses. Apart from his eyes and glasses, and a few streaks of grey in his dark hair, he looked an 30-year-older copy of Lex. "Pleasure to meet you, Pam," he said in a rough London accent tinged with Scottish. "I'm Kieran. You've already met my son, Alexander." Lex grinned at Pam from where he was leaning against the sink. "Sorry the house isn't really clean," Kieran continued sheepishly. "It's just been Lex and I since my wife passed away, and we're not the cleanest pigs in Scotland. But come, I'll take you on the grand tour."
He lead them around the house, which consisted of the kitchen, living room, laundry, downstairs toilet, and small room at the end of the hall that had drums set, piano and guitar rack with two electric and acoustic guitars crammed in with the bed and wardrobe.
"This is my room," announced Lex, standing protectively inside it. "Nobody comes in without my permission, deal?" His eyes lingered on Jez, who nodded resignedly.
The second floor had a bathroom and four bedrooms. Boxes were stacked inside one of the bedrooms, so tightly that Jez couldn't even get the door open fully when she tried to peek inside.
"We had to move all the stuff from the guest bedrooms to make room for you," explained Kieran, shutting the door to the box room. "That's all of it. Don't go in that room, those box piles are quite unstable." Jez could hear the slight tightness in his voice that indicated that they weren't welcome in that room, and immediately she resolved to sneak in at the earliest opportunity. The other three bedrooms were Kieran's and the two guest ones. These still had a few boxes piled in the corners, but a wardrobe, chest of drawers and three beds had been put in each. "It's not much," said Kieran apologetically. "But we don't usually have house guests."
"It's great, thank you," said Des, smiling at her uncle while poking Keegan in the ribs.
"Yes, thanks," he echoed, quickly turning to the kids. "Okay, Pam and Jez will be sleeping in this room with Des. Nate and Jordan, you're with me. That way we can both keep an eye on you all." Jez opened her mouth furiously, casting a horrified look at her sister, but Keegan held up a hand. "It's final, Jezabel." Maybe it was the warning note in his voice, or the fact that he'd used her full name, but Jez didn't say a word. "Now, let's get our stuff and move in, shall we?" Keegan turned to the stairs, running a hand through his longish hair, back to looking distracted.

Pam looked in the room she was supposed to share with Des and Jez, and had a sudden longing for her purple room. But she shook her head and looked up at Kieran. "It's wonderful. Thank you." Turning to Keegan, she said, "That's probably a good idea. Where is our stuff anyways?" she remembered having a suitcase, a smaller bag, and her owl cage. Her tawny owl Teri, was out streching her wings. Pam had found out first term, that Teri wasn't too fond of train rides. So Pam was always sure to let Teri fly to and from Hogwarts. Hopping down the stairs, Pam looked outside to see if their stuff was there. And sure enough, their stuff was scattered on the ground where they arrived. Pam happily scampered off into the field. Still carrying her rabbit, she used her free hand to sling her messenger bag over her shoulder, grab her suitcase, and cage, and dragged it all across the lawn.

He looked up at Keegan in mock disgust, "Why do we have to share? It's not like we'd get into any trouble is it?" he smirked, running back outside with the others .
He grabbed his own luggage from outside: his trunck, backpack and owl cage... The owl cage made him think of Jazz, his small tawny owl, he hoped she would make it here soon. He hauled the luggage up to the room he, Nate and Keegan had been designated and "I call dibs on this bed!" he yelled, dumping jumping on the double bed in the room, the others were single beds and Nate and Keegan hadn't got to the room yet, so Jordan got first choice!

"No, but there aren't enough rooms for us all." Pam said, leaning aganist the door frame of the boys room. She had just dumped her stuff in her room, not really caring what kind of bed she got. As long as Des and Jez wouldn't fight. If necessary, she would sleep on the floor.
In the midst of the moving things, Pam had changed out of her school robes, and into a pair of jean shorts, and a lavender colored tank to and she had put her hair in a simple pony tail. She was glad to be out of her robes. She had worn them almost every day, and she needed a change of fabric.

Nate was quick with getting his luggage up to his room. After all, even though he had been at Hogwarts for two years now he still packed up American style: with nothing more than a duffel bag to carry all of his necessities. The only other thing was his owl cage, but that was easy to carry with him. After dropping everything on the floor in the room, Nate decided that, like Pam, he would change, too. He walked up behind Jordan and began to push him out of the room. "It's great that you two are talking and all, but I'm going to change my clothes. I'll let you in when I feel like it," he said, smiling at the both of them and winking at Pam before shutting the door behind him, leaving Jordan and Pam out in the hall together. Why Jordan had chosen the middle bed was beyond Nate, but he assumed it was probably because it was nearest to the window. "Sucker," Nate muttered under his breath as he himself took the bed beneath the air vent, which meant cool, comfortable sleep all summer. After quickly changing into his dark jeans and the Ravenclaw t-shirt he had bought at Dervish and Banges some time during a Hogsmeade visit during the year, Nate slid into his bed. It was comfortable, especially with the cool air flowing on his face. He decided that it would be a good time to take a nap then. After all, the door was unlocked. With his thoughts drifting nowhere fast, Nate fell asleep fully dressed, while everyone else bustled about the house.

Keegan had aimed a softish swipe at Jordan head as the boy scurried past him, but he was smiling. He'd already levitated his and Des' stuff up into their rooms, but saw no need to bring the kids' luggage in too.
Jez cursed that lapse in her brother's goodwill under her breath as she dragged her trunk, backpack and kitty carrier up the stairs, Rowena hissing and scratching to be let out. Jez finally complied, and Rowena sped off to inspect the house and surrounding land as she saw fit. Jez reminded herself to warn Pam to keep Snowball close at all times while Ro was around while she got changed into more comfortable clothes. Looking down at herself, she realised that she often wore dark colours like blacks and greys - like her mum. Like Des. Jez resolved to get some clothing with actual colour in them as soon as possible.
Stepping outside the girls' room into the landing, scraping her slightly messy hair into a high ponytail that still left a great deal running down her back, Jez saw Pam and Jordan in the same place they'd been when she'd gone in to change - unmercifully pushed outside the boys' room. "He's still in there?" she asked, going over and knocking impatiently on the door. "Oi, Firestarter! You done in there?" When she got no immediate answer, Jez tried the door handle, and found it to be unlocked. When she peeked into the room, she saw Nate asleep in the bed cleverly beneath the air vent. "Well, he's a Ravenclaw all right," she muttered, padding softly over to him and crawling onto the bed too. "Nate? Naaaaate?" When she got no response from her whispers, she tried a better, softer approach - jumping on the bed like a demented rabbit. "Oi! No sleeping! Up and at 'em, Stone!" She was determined to continue bouncing until he got up.

Pam jumped a little as Jordan was pushed toward her. "Sorry about Nate. He's always doing things like that. He once kept me out of my own room so he could take a cat nap." She walked over to the door, turned the handle, and rolled her eyes. "That's what I thought. It's like he's inviting people in." Just as she said this, Jez came bounding in. Pam was about to tell her that the door was unlocked, but by that point, Jez had already found out. She giggled as Jez started jumping on Nate. That's was one way to do it. "Well," she said, turning back towards Jordan. "I, for one, am starving. Want to see if we can find anything to eat?"

Jordan crept into his room behind Jez, darting over to his bed and grabbing some more comfortable clothes for himself. He ran out of the room to get changed in the bathroom across the hall, passing Pam who was still stood outside of the room. He returned to the room in his jeans and hoodie which were a much more comfortable wear, an he found Jez jumping on the bed in an attempt to wake up Nate. "My go!" he yelled before joining jez on the bed, jumping up and down with her. "Wake up Nate!" he yelled with Jez, but he soon got bored of the lack of response from Nate, he looked at Pam "I'm pretty hungry too, let's get something to eat then," he said as he jumped off the bed and rejoined Pam outside.
