Ravenswood Manor

Adrianna Charday’s life has been a rollercoaster, to say the least. When it all becomes too much, she slips away from her home in the middle of the night, as she has done many times before. Only this time, it’s for good. She goes to the beautiful wildlife preserve that a close family friend owns. Ravenswood. The ideal place to go if you need some alone time. But no one knows what’s really going through the raven-haired teenager’s depressed mind. She was slowly losing herself in self-pity, depression.
Her best friend since she was an infant, Cassandriana Brant, visits daily, but can never find the girl she once knew as her friend inside the shell of a person she finds everyday.
But if you do find old Adrianna, she will gladly welcome you into the humongous manor house that she now calls home. There are eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a large den with a fireplace and mantle, two kitchens, and a sunroom throughout the house. Two wolves, Dreamer and Stormbringer stay in the den by the fireplace during the winter, but during the warmer months, they are either running around the preserve, or lying by Adrianna. There is a very large library on the top floor, where Ad spends most of her time. A sign on the gates leading to the preserve says:
Ravenswood Wildlife Preserve
Take only photos and leave only footprints.
Please don’t feed the animals, and stay on the paths.
Garbage in, garbage out policy.
$200 fine for littering.
Open from dawn till dusk.

Tours there were very popular. But now, in the winter months, not even her fellow guides could break the icy barrier that wrapped itself around Adrianna’s heart. She didn’t punch anyone who called her “Addy” anymore.

Adrianna slid down the banister that led from the second floor to the ground floor. "Agh. The computer crashed on me again. And I mean it literally." She was pulling wires from her hair. "Cass, are you even listening to me?!" Ad crossed her arms and huffed, looking like a mad scientist. "A little help would be nice." She picked up a pillow and whacked her friend in the face.

Cass yelped when the rough cloth from the pillow hit her face. "Ow. Yes, of course I was listening, thickhead!" She snapped.

Justin sighed as he walked toward the manor in which was occupied by Ad and Cass. Now what was actually going to happen whilst he and Bradin were there? Was Ad going to get narked at them? Who knew? Justin walked to the door and rang the doorbell. Waiting for an answer, he stood in silence looking round. He looked at Bradin and shrugged. "This should be fun" he said sarcastically. Ad had been her usual self lately.

Bradin also stood and waited for an answer. He looked at Justin and giggled. "Mate, there's very few people in this world who are capable of dragging Adriane back to her normal self and if you and Cass can't do it, nobody can" he replied. They had to bring her to her usual self again. They just had to.

Just as Ad and Cass finished the pillow fight, an eerie howl echoed through the manor. The doorbell. Ad sighed, getting up. "I swear, if it's that stupid thickhead who keeps complaining about Storm and Dreamer, I'll wring their neck!" She said, opening the door, which revealed Cass' cousins, Bradin and Justin. "Justin, Bradin...what are you doing here?" She asked, slightly annoyed. Why couldn't she wade in her self-pity alone? But, she still gave both boys hugs. As she hugged Justin, she whispered. "I missed my partner-in-crime."

Cass raised an eyebrow. "Get your muddy little canine hands off my cousin." She playfully snarled, taking Justin out of Ad's grasp. "Now Addy, why don't you get something for them to eat?" She didn't even tense. She knew Ad was too depressed to even inflict damage on the face of anyone who called her Addy. "I told you it was serious." She hissed to Justin. "You're her last chance."

Then Cass pulled him into a hug. "I'm not hungry" he whispered. But it was a way of getting Ad away or something so they could talk. He looked from Cass to Ad and back again. "I didn't think it was this bad. I don't know what I can do" he whispered back. Truly not knowing what to do.

Bradin hugged Ad then looked at Cass. He looked at Justin sheepishly. He'd never seen Ad like this before. What had gotten into her? "Nice seeing you guys" he said not too cheerfully. It was difficult to be cheerful in the current situation.

Ad sighed when his smile melted off his face. She knew wht that meant. She knew he hated seeing her like this. She knew what he was thinking. She put her head on his shoulder as he hugged her. "I missed you more and I missed you longer. And your Ad is gone. And she's never coming back." She said, before weakly trying to get out of his strong embrace. She looked up at his face with haunted black eyes. The face she had grown to love. And he knew she loved him. What she wouldn't give for something...anything...more than just one of his warm bearhugs. He would realize at some point that her eyes weren't glittering onyx anymore, but flat black.

Ad threw the pillow at her smiling friend. "Get your own." She snapped, before walking into the kitchen, slamming the door behind her. Tears streamed down her face as she looked up at the mirror in the kitchen. She growled and punched it, letting the shattered pieces fall. She hated her reflection. Dreamer, the black and white wolf, looked up from his place by the fridge as Ad got things for the seemingly always-hungry boys to eat. She came out and gently set the tray on the table. "If you replace that mirror again, I'll replace your face." She snarled, flopping down next to Justin. He would never see his Ad. Not today. Not tomorrow. Never again. Old Ad was gone and out the door.

Justin looked at Cass and nodded. Then he looked her square in the eyes. "Ok, well I need to be able to understand why she went first" he replied. He had to understand it otherwise there was no getting Ad back. And that was bad.

Bradin half-smiled at Cass. Then he looked at Ad and then at Justin. "Yeah, maybe" he said not urging Ad to do anything if she didn't want to. But then he heard glass smash. And now Ad was shouting. He looked at Justin sternly as if to say sort her.

Justin heard the smashing glass and Ad shouting. He walked toward the kitchen and saw her crying and Dreamer laid by the fridge. He walked toward the seemingly worried wolf and petted him slightly. Then looked up at Ad and the shars of glass. "Adriane, where did you go? This is not you. Please, let us see the real you again. I hate seeing you like this and judging by the look on Dreamer's face, he hates seeing you like this too" he said to her knowing that she was likely to flip at him. And he was prepared for that. He followed her into the lounge, followed by Dreamer and sighed as she slouched beside him. What was he meant to do?

Ad felt Justin behind her. She looked in the remaining pieces of mirror to see him standing behind her, petting Dreamer. She sighed. She was gonna cave in for the first time in a long time. "Justin, I...I'm...I" She couldn't finish. When he followed her out, she felt slightly uncomfortable. Then Cass shifted her foot last minute so Ad wouldn't trip over it when she went to sit by Justin. She felt her leg hit the table. She winced as she sat. "Ow, Cass. I could've stepped over your foot. But no. You just HAD to move it!" She sighed, shaking her head. There. Justin could see that old Ad was still there. Just in hiding. She let Storm come up onto the couch, and Ad just watched, silent tears rolling down her face, as she stroked the wolf.

Justin listened to what Cass had to say and looked at Ad. "She's still there somewhere. We just have to work on dragging her out of that shell she's made herself. She can't stay in hiding forever" He'd done that for too long himself and it nearly destroyed him so it was sure to destroy Ad.

See, he knew she was still there somewhere. "Addy, I know this isn't going to happen but please apologise" he told her, winking a little at Cass. Maybe Cass would get that he was trying to test Ad.

Cass sighed. "I know she is. I've tried everything. I tried to get her to laugh the other day. It nearly worked. I had her smiling." She flashed her cousin a small grin. She knew the damage could be dangerous if Ad stayed this way for too long. Then a thought hit her. "You still love her, don't you? I mean, it's been at least a year since you saw her..." She trailed off. This was the only way. Cass had a theory. Ad felt as if she wasn't loved. "You need to tell her that you're there for her. Tell her you love her, even if you don't" She said. This HAD to work.

Justin looked at Cass. "She must be way hidden, she usually slaps me when I call her Addy, and/or demand to know something. And she hasn't tickled me once since I've been here" he explained. That was something she always did when she was around him. It seemed like it was mandatory. He looked at Cass and smiled slightly. "Of course I still love her. I always have and always will." He knew where Cass was going with this but Ad wasn't listening now so what made them think she would if he said he loves her? "I'll try it. And if I have to I'll keep saying it until it's drilled in her head" he replied enthusiastically.

Bradin looked at Cass and rolled his eyes. Were they falling out now? NOT THE TIME! He narrowed his eyes and walked away before his mood changed too much. It was happening drastically and it wasn't a good thing at all.

Justin looked down at the floor then at Ad. She was adamant against. "Ad, we're only trying to help you" he told her softly. But he wasn't sure she was going to believe that. Well at least she'd apologised. "You're apologising for what you just did to Cass. It was uncalled for. Like I said, we're only trying to help" he told her. Then he looked at Cass and thought about what she'd said. Maybe it could work. Ad didn't believe anyone cared and she couldn't have been more wrong. "Ad, you know I still love you, right. All I want is my Ad back. For my Ad to come out of this little shell and tell it to get lost because you don't really wanna be caged in something that isn't you, do you?" he told her hoping she would at least try to listen.

Then he looked at Cass. "An apology means part of her is still there. Hence why I told her to apologise to you" he whispered to her knowing she was confused at the situation.

Adriane crossed her arms over her chest and sighed. By mother and AnnaLeah. Who else? And I don't LET them in. They come in on their own. The tickling thing has always been odd to me, so I'm not even gonna go there." Cass said simply. She knew that Ad loved her tickle fights with Justin. Of course, more often than not, Justin would win, they still seemed fun to Ad. But not now. She smiled when he responded. "Glad to hear it. She still loves you, way deep down. She's just not motivated enough to show it." Cass said. She looked at Justin. "That's actually what I was thinking. Keep on telling her until she believes you." Cass said softly. She didn't feel like smiling right then.

Then he looked at Cass and thought about what she'd said. Maybe it could work. Ad didn't believe anyone cared and she couldn't have been more wrong. "Ad, you know I still love you, right. All I want is my Ad back. For my Ad to come out of this little shell and tell it to get lost because you don't really wanna be caged in something that isn't you, do you?" he told her hoping she would at least try to listen.

Then he looked at Cass. "An apology means part of her is still there. Hence why I told her to apologise to you" he whispered to her knowing she was confused at the situation.

Ad raised a sapphire eyebrow. "Only trying to help me?" She asked. She bit her lip as he explained her apology. "Oh. Well, okay." She said, shrugging. She took a small olive off the tray and ate it. She look up at him with wide eyes. "You...no. Stop. Just stop lying. I know you are. This was all set up. Now, if you don't mind-" She checked the clock and cursed internally. "-I'm going upstairs. If you need me, I'll be on the balcony in the library with Storm and Dreamer." She said. And with a small hand signal, the two wolves followed their mistress quickly, looking around and sniffing the air, as if catching an unwelcome scent. Dreamer growled. Storm whined, leaning closer into Adriane.

Cass sighed as she watched Ad retreat to the library. She checked the time. "Oh no. She has a right to diss us. Willow's nearly home." She looked out the window at the sleek white car that had just pulled up. "We;d best get upstairs. In the library." She said, getting up. Too late. The door of the manor was already open.

Willow sighed, getting out of her car. The little brat and her friend had best stay upstairs. And those better not have tracked mud on her fresh carpet. She looked at new footprints in the dirt. Huh. She knew those feet. Westerly and Hendricks were here, huh? She threw the door open, and stepped inside, looking into the den. Yup. They were there. "Hm. No mud tracks, no broken china. But I'm going to guess Addy broke the kitchen mirror again?" She laughed internally as Cass nodded. "Oh well. Accidents happen." She gave the raspberry-haired girl a sickly sweet smile, watching her squirm under the cold, hard stare of pitch-black eyes. She turned to the stairs that led up to the library. She began to climb.

Cass gulped. She squirmed slightly under Willow's gaze. Now the boys knew where Adriane got her looks from at least. Willow was tall, her sapphire hair glinting almost evilly in the pool of sunlight she stood in. She was beautiful, no argue there. But she was the cold kind of beauty, unlike the old Ad, who's beauty was warm and practically filled a dark room with a sort of light. "Uh yeah. She broke the mirror." She watched Willow start to ascend the stairs. "Uh...Ms. Charday, why don't you stay down here, I'll fix you some tea or coffee, or something." She smiled, hoping it would work. Most likely not, as she watched Willow ascend another step. O well. She just had to go with the flow now. She sighed with relief as she went into her bedroom and came back down.

Fills the room with cold beauty rather than warm beauty like Ad's" he whispered to Cass and Bradin. He felt the coldness that had retreated in the room. He looekd upstairs and heard the distinct grumbling of Storm and Dreamer. They couldn't have liked her one bit. They had to stop Willow from ascending to the Library. "Ms. Charday? She rested her eyes on the smiling curly-haired brunette man standing between her and eight-year-old Adriane.

Adriane slowly exited the library, standing up straight and tall. She padded heavily down the stairs to see her mother sitting on the couch, gazing at the family portrait she had placed onto the wall...again. "Hello, mother." She said coldly. She shivered, suddenly feeling cold in the room.

And three, Storm and Dreamer are wolves, don't take their instinct away from them" he said to Willow, his eyes narrowed salightly. He gulped as she gunned for him. Uh-oh. He looked at Ad as she entered the room and gulped even more. Not good.

Adriane shoved Justin aside to face her mother. “Don’t you talk to Justin like that, mother. He has every right to tell you to stop-“

His anger rose even more when Willow slapped Ad. He grabbed hold of Ad and pulled her behind him, letting her use him as a prop to stand up straight. "If you're gonna slap someone, or hurt someone, hurt me. I'm the one standing up to you. Ad's just sticking by me. She's done nothing wrong. And you're a sorry excuse for a mother just to let you know" he told Willow harshly.

Ok, time to step in. Bradin stood by and watchd as Justin stook up for the girls. Now to stick by his cousin's and Ad. "You've just angered the wrong people, sweetheart. You don't own Cass and Ad, now will you ever own them. And just for the record, I believe I need to go to your side of the family to avenge my mother, right? Messing with the wrong family here, darlin'" he said sarcastically. O, this was going to be interesting. Hurtful, but interesting.

Willow shrugged. "Yes they are." She yanked up her sleeve and showed them the large scars from when Storm ravaged her arm. "Protecting their owner, eh? You mean the pathetic, weak little piece of dirt standing in front of me? And I never said they were slaves, just personal servants." She smiled sickeningly sweetly.

Willow narrowed her dark eyes, taking a step towards the brunette. "Don't you dare talk to me like that, you filthy little..." She stopped. Stop while your ahead, Willow. She took a deep breath. "Justin, just step away, and I won't hurt you, or her. I promise." She said, not letting on that she was lying. She figured that he wouldn't move anyway.

Justin shifted forward slightly when Ad hit him in the back. "OW!" he shouted before cursing under his breath. That hurt. It hurt a lot.

But then Willow pulled him away. No fair. He quickly moved back before Willow could touch Ad. "You may have moved me but it doesn't mean I'm gonna stay away. Like I said, you'll have to get through me first" he told her.

Ad grimaced slightly. She didn't expect it to hurt THAT badly. "Sorry. Then just stop. You're only gonna get hurt even more." She sobbed harder, pleading Justin to stop interrogating her mother. She rested her head gently on his back, trembling from crying and from anger that her mother was doing this.

Willow pinched the bridge of her nose. "I said, move. Either move or get out. I'm not in the mood to increase my criminal record." She snarled. Finally, after a few silent seconds, she grabbed her daughter, and held the girl in a tight semi-choke hold. "Get out." She snarled at the boys.

Justin shook his head and cocked an eyebrow at Willow. "Nah, I think I'll stay. I'll take my chances" he replied. How dare she tell him to get out. No way. He'd never get out.

Ok, ow! Now the pain was kicking in after Ad had punched him in the back. "I'm not gonna back down, Ad. You should know better than anyone that I won't back down" he replied.

Now Willow had hid nose. OW! "I'm not moving and you're not gonna make me" he replied. Until she got hold of Ad. But he knew that if Bradin and himself left, Ad and Cass would be in more danger. "Just because you have hold of Ad doesn't mean I'm gonna leave and let you hurt her. She's done nothing wrong to you and if you think I'm gonna stand by and allow you to hurt her, you're wrong" he said. But he didn't move any closer for he was scared Willow would hurt Ad even more.

Bradin cocked his head to one side. "You'll have to physically hurt him to get him to move, y'know. Just because you have hold of Ad doesn't mean it'll make him back down. No matter how much he loves her. We know you'll hurt her if we leave" he replied.

Willow literally growled. "Oh, you really want to mess with me, huh?" She snarled, glaring hard at the boy. She smiled sweetly at the two boys. She took out a slim wand, and let her daughter fall from her arms, making sure the girl fell on her injured leg. The leg Willow had made sure would NEVER heal. "Look, I don't have her now. Go ahead and pick her up..." She ignored the soft, pained sobs now coming from her daughter. "Oh, she's done plenty wrong. She's run away from home enough, and I'm sick and tired of it." She nudged Adriane's leg hard.

Ad yelped loudly in pain when she fell from her mother's arms. She cried from the unbearable pain that shot up the entire bottom half of her leg. "Justin..." She whispered, trying to get out a sentence. "Justin...Bradin...Cass...help..." She managed, before practically shrieking in pain when Willow's foot collided with her leg none too gently. The last thing she was able to see was Justin's face before she went limp on the floor and fell unconscious.

Justin watched as Willow dropped Ad. Did he got to her or not? But she was bleeding and that was never a good thing. And Willow kicking her only made it worse. "She's done nothing wrong" he replied. But now he had no strength to do anything else. Not good. He looked at Ad, then Cass, then Bradin, and mouthed "I'm sorry" before collapsing on the floor before Ad, Willow, Cass and Bradin. The blood was too much.

Bradin looked at Justin and Ad as they fell unconscious. "Really?" he replied to Willow. "And someone who has a heart would. And it's not her fault you've caused her so much pain that she can't stay conscious. And dig at Justin collapsing and you'll seriously be pushing i too far. He hates blood and when he's surrounded by it, that happens" he told Willow. Oops. That was going to be something she could hold against him.
