Gobstones: Hufflepuff vs. Gryffindor Preliminary Match

Professor Hadley waited for the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff players to enter the Gobstones court. As they took their places, she handed them each their appropriate gobstone bags, gold for Hufflepuff, red for Gryffindor, each containing the appropriately colored gobstones. She then levitated the gray jackstone into position in the center of the court.

"I presume that before we begin, you have all familiarized yourselves with the rules. There is a zero tolerance for cheating and only one warning will be issued for playing out of turn. Let the match begin."

After carefully studying of the position of the jackstone, Miss Lewis of Hufflepuff, rolls first for Hufflepuff. Her gold stone lands quite close to the gobstone. Morets rolls shortly after and gets her red stone just a bit farther from the gobstone than Hufflepuff. It's a close call and then ... What's this!? Another Gryffindor rolls their red stone into the pit.

"Penalty for gryffindor! Hufflepuff wins the point." Of course they would have anyway. "Next time Gryffindor has two players roll in the same round, Hufflepuff will automatically win the round."

Prefect Leone has obviously played Gobstones before, as he expertly rolls his gold stone into the pit and it lands quite near to the Jack Stone. But Gryffindor thinks they can do better; taking their red stone, Raven Perevell says he can match it and rolls just a few inches away from the gold one.

"Huffl--" Hadley was about to call, but then, what's this? First year Hufflepuff, Miss Wolffang, seems to have slipped a gold stone onto the pit. "Penalty for Hufflepuff too! Now that both houses have gotten your one free penalty out of the way, please familiarize yourselves with the rules again. Remember that each house only gets one chance per question." Nonetheless, it was a warning for Hufflepuff, like for Gryffindor, so Hufflepuff still got the point this time.

This time, brainiac and cookie baker, Kurumi Hollinberry takes her turn at the game, as she aims a carefully placed red stone. But once more, Gryffindor's stones falls short of the Hufflepuff one. Nice efforts though for the Lions, but Badgers takes the round.

Hufflepuffs continue on their streak as Mia Gibbins, fifth year, takes the next roll. Those feisty badgers might not have the most points, but they sure know how to handle a game of Gobstones, as Miss Gibbins' gold stone rolls just a few millimeters from the Jack Stone.

Can Gryffindor outdo it? Kurumi rolls. The red stone rolls and rolls ... and then stops suddenly, a little ways from the Hufflepuff stone, as gob spews over the Lions.

And then, finally, she saw a gold stone rolling slowly toward the center...

... it stopped.

And then a red one. It was as though the players were worn out, with how slow-motion everything was this round. The red one rolled to a stop just inches from the gold. Hufflepuff gets the point ... again.
