| Challenge Seven OOC: Unless otherwise indicated, your character's response and answers should be roleplayed and posted in this thread rather than PMed to the round host. The Department of International Magical Cooperation
Hosted by: purple·myst
This would be the first time that he addressed anyone from the ministry on a level this wide. He was excited about it though. The anticipation had been building inside him for so long. This would be his chance to introduce himself to the ministry. Or the entire ministry at least.
He waited for everyone to settle down and then cleared his throat. “Hello everyone,” he greeted them. “Welcome to this section of the Job Fair. My name is Sebastian Bailey, and I am the Department Head of International Magical Cooperation. “He took a deep breath and scanned the rooms with his eyes, a curious look on his face. “Today, we will be learning about proper etiquette and sale techniques,” he said to the room.
“So first on the agenda, is of course etiquette,” he said simply, as if it was obvious. “There are a few key things that you should keep in mind. The first of those things, is that when talking to someone who you are trying to impress is to be dressed professionally. There are many different ways to do so. Your outfit does not have to be fancy, but it needs to be put together well. For example, you could be wearing a pair of dark jeans and look very nice with a collared shirt, or fancy top. If you do not have any of those, for the ladies you could do your hair up a little fancier than normal, or for the males you could wear a nice simple shirt with a collar with your jeans.” He paused, letting all this information sink in, and so that, if necessary they could take notes. “Some other key points to keep in mind are things such as talking with your hands. You want to avoid that, unless, for example you were listing off things,” while he said this, he held up his hand, and slowly hit three of his fingers in succession with his other hand as if counting something off. “You also want to make sure that you contain eye contact, and remain interested in the conversation you are having with whoever you are talking to. You also need to engage your audience at the same time. This will assist you with many different things, and will help make the person you are talking to feel more comfortable,” he explained. “Now, while I said eye contact is good, you do not want to just stare straight into their eyes, you want to let your eyes move around a bit, without seeming as if you are distracted.”
“Now, moving on to sale techniques. You want to keep all of the things about professionalism in mind but you also want to be extremely friendly and you want to tell them all about the product in which you are promoting. Before you go to make your sale, make sure that you are familiar with the product.” He said all this, before moving over to the cabinet that he had made sure was in the room and pulled out three giant books. He carried them over and set them down on the table. “Just remember, make sure you familiarize yourself with what you are selling and remember to be cool and calm at all times, no matter how frustrated you get.
-------
Sitting on the table there is three giant catalogues. In them, are a bunch of different internationally recognized items that you must try to sell to our guests. Not all these are things that you will be selling, but it is filled with information about everything you can possibly imagine.
You will have ten minutes to look through for what you need to sell; one of three; banjo, Berti Botts Every Flavour Beans or chocolate.
After that you can take a couple minutes to make yourself presentable, there is a various change rooms in the back with mirrors in which you can charm your clothes into looking more professional as that is the only option.
Just after you have finished all that, three different people are in the room, and it is your job to impress them, and sell to them one of the items that have been left in the room. Make sure you don’t let them frustrate you.

Marina shook her head, as she listened to Mr. Bailey. A saleswitch? She could have tried her hand at that, under any other set of circumstances but, right now, she had just emerged from a challenge that had involved a full-on fight. To say the least, she did not look perfect.
Pretty? Yes.
Messed up? A LOT more.
There. Problem defined. But she cheered up, when she saw the Dressing Rooms - she could fix herself up! She had her wand, and that would be enough - as far as looking presentable was concerned, anyway. With a little smile, she stepped up to the giant catalogues. They were quite colourful and, needless to say, rather catchy. Marina took her time, looking through them -- she already knew a lot about chocolate and Berti Bott's Every Flavour Beans, but she paid special attention to the details of the Banjo. Even though she wanted to sell the chocolate.
Yummiest of the lot, and all.
Now, to make herself presentable. Marina headed straight for a Dressing Room, and was glad that it contained - as anyone would have expected, of course - a mirror. What she had in mind, right now, as the perfect outfit was a Spanish skirt in all sorts of pretty colours, combined with an off-the-shoulders top, but that would be a total fail, for a saleswitch - she would look a picture right out of some party.
That was why, when she stepped out of the Dressing Room, she sported a navy-blue skirt of a reasonable length, and a pretty, white top, underneath a smart, navy coat, one with a line of gold buttons. Professional, yet chic. She had originally wanted to go for trousers and a blazer; but, in the end, opted for business casual, as opposed to smart casual.
Now, to finally zone in on her 'target.' Marina headed for one of the people in the room, all ready to sell some chocolate. |

Benjamin walked into the room and quickly whipped his wand out to fix his suit, a few taps wouldn't fix it after the last challenge. But luckily, all the wrinkles where out and his tie got redone. And once the lecture started, he realized he just did the right thing.
Well, the suit was down. But now there was selling. Benjamin would good at convincing people of his beliefs, but selling things was never his forte.
Ben approached the table and took the chocolate. Something he knew quite well. He then began to strategize and review his product.
When he was done looking it over, he waited for the people to arrive for his pitch.

Erik took the key he was given and entered the next challenge and secretly wondered how much they paid for all these keys. Had to be a bit. As he entered he straightened his shirt that had come ragged looking in the last challenge and looked around. His eyes landing on someone talking he paid attention, wait...they were selling stuff??? Oh dear lord.
His eyes went to what they were going to try and sell and he was captivated by the banjo. How interesting. He loved music. Well he knew what he was going to sell. Looking down at his clothes he frowned and headed off to change. He looked a right mess. After some careful wand work he walked out dressed in his best semi casual outfit.
Feeling much more comfortable he looked around and rolled up his sleeves to get down to business. "Who's in need of a new musical instrument eh?" He said with a smile.

Ronan Cavanaugh listened intently to what Mr Bailey had to say about the next task. His side was still throbbing from the last challenge and he shook his head trying to concentrate on what was being presented to him. 'Sales, great.' he thought to himself giving a polite smile to the man before him while trying to figure out how he could possibly work out how to sell some random item to people he didn't know and when he lacked group speaking skills.
Going over to one of the changing areas after the man had finished his explanation to straighten himself out, in an all black outfit which, in his opinion made him look slimmer and professional at the same time.
Glancing around the room, Ronan looked to retrieve the item he preferred the sell; a banjo because as a musician he felt that it would be the easiest to demonstrate on why it was the best thing in the entire world.
The young man put on a polite smile and went to go greet his target audience.

A slight wind seems to blow into the room, carrying a small piece of parchment with it. The parchment flutters about for a few moments, then finally falls to the floor in the middle of the room. OOC: The Ministry of Magic RPG Education Fair Mystery is scheduled to come to a close on Wednesday, May 5. We hope everyone is enjoying the roleplay! |

Benjamin immediately whipped out his wand when he felt a weird breeze hitting him in the room. Then when he saw the piece of parchment fluttering he put it away. He looked around at everyone before approaching it and picking it up. "Damn..." He said out load when he finished reading it. "Everyone look at this!!!" he said to everyone.

Marina bent down, and was barely able to read the parchment, before some other guy swept it off. Seven days? That ought to be enough, actually. But she still felt the need to hurry.
"We're short on time, I guess," she said, looking round at everybody. "I hope we can finish this challenge, soon."
Yep. |

Ronan watched curiously as a piece of paper flew into the room that he was in along with other employees of the Ministry. 'Seven days.' he read and his brow furrowed. Seven was supposed to be a lucky number but on this particular piece of parchment, it looked ominous.
The young man sighed and looked up to the challenge he had before him. "Best get started soon." he said to no one in particular.

His mode of transportation to get here had been late, and on the way he had lost his lunch as well. Mr. Rigley was not a very happy camper at the moment. Why it was up to him to come here was beyond him.
He looked at the first person he saw and walked towards her. "Good afternoon, sorry I was late, it was entirely out of my control," he said with a note of sarcasm in his voice.
He waited for the girl to proceed. He really did want to be on his way. Quote:

Mrs. Wright entered the room that she had been impatiently waiting for with a disgusted look on her face. She did her best to erase it, as she made her way towards a man in a suit.
"I understand you have something you would like to sell me?" she said, not really waiting for an answer before adding in an annoyed tone,"well what is it?" Quote:

Ronan glanced over to the man that he seemed to be partnered with and then looked to the person he was supposed to be selling his item to. Holding up the banjo in his hands, the young man smiled politely to the man before him ready to sell anything.
Clearing his voice Ronan spoke, "Good day to you sir, I'm going to start off with asking you a question; Have you ever been interested in learning how to play a wonderful instrument such as this banjo right here?"
He plucked lightly a chord of the instrument testing it out to show that it was in working condition hoping that this would appeal to the man.

So he put on his charming smile. "Hello, ma'am. I'm Benjamin Amsten and I'm here with the snack that everyone's loved for hundreds of years, chocolate." Ben paused before continuing. "Did you know that as much as chocolate tastes good, it has medical benefits as well. It can regulate your blood pressure, help muscle recovery, and keep your brain strong as you get older." Ben presented the chocolate bar. "Also, today I will be having a special discount; Five chocolate bars for the price of one. Whether it be White, Dark, Milk, or Almond. You can get FIVE, for the price of ONE." Ben waited for her reaction before continuing.

Right.
"Good afternoon, sir," Marina said, politely returning the man's greeting. "It's alright, nothing wrong with a little wait." She gave him her usual, warm smile. "But you seem a little down - could I offer you some chocolate? A good, light crunch - a hint of roasted peanuts - warm, melted sugar - strong-flavoured spice - the chocolate-manufacturer I represent, caters to every taste, under the sun and, what's more, our factory policies ensure that you get the very best - delicacy and health, in the same, delicious product."
Maybe she ought to have mentioned something about a discount? Ah, well. Marina Effron was no saleswitch, never was going to be.
Chocolate, though, is love.
LOVE. |

LOVE. The women was really enthusiastic about selling the chocolate. And she was talking, he found himself relaxing a little, thinking about his daughter that he could give the chocolate to.

"That will be £1.50 for 5 pieces of milk chocolate." Ben took out the bars and waited for the money. He looked up at the round host to see if he did good.

Sebastian looked at the young man just as the woman handed him some money and smiled. He nodded at the man and said quietly once he had come closer to him. "Here's your ticket to move on," he said handing him a tiny key.

Ronan's smile faltered for a brief moment when he saw that the person he was speaking to did not seem altogether interested in what he had to say. Clearing his throat, the young man spoke again a polite smile returning to his face. "Well the banjo is a very diverse instrument, it can be played in many different styles. Being as I'm from Ireland my favorite is Irish tenor banjo which give a unique addition to any sort of irish music."
Ronan plucked at the banjo and demonstrated a specific tune that he thought was alltogether nice to show off. He stopped and looked to the person once more. "It's really easy to learn how to play and all of your friends and family will be impressed by what you show off using this instrument."
Feeling his cheek start to hurt from smiling so much, Ronan paused and looked at the man in a polite manner. "So what do you say? Does the banjo strike an interest with you?"

Looked like it.
"Well, one of our standard chocolate-bars could cost you anything from eight to fifteen sickles, sir, but I'll offer you a special discount - five sickles, for any bar you like!" She showed him the company brochure, so that he could make his pick, if he wanted to.

Does the banjo strike an interest with you?" "The banjo doesn't really strike an interest with me, but it will with my family. It shall be a gift to them," he said, disliking music even more as he said it, but it would make his family happy.
He handed the man some money and took the bango with a forced smile and left the room. Quote:

Thank Merlin for nice customers.
Really! The man looked over the brochure and studied it intently. He handed the lady 20 sickles and a business card. "Here you go, please send them to this address. Being friendly is a good part to making a sale," he said with a smile as he to left.

Ronan smiled kindly to the man as he said that he would give it to his family as a gifts. "That sounds like a wonderful idea sir, thank you so much for your time."
He watched the man leave and received his key to move on to the next floor.

"We'll see to it that you get the chocolates as soon as possible, sir." She watched him leave, received the key that would allow her to access the next challenge, and then left the room.
Now she was stuck in a navy-blue skirt, and a blazer with golden buttons. Sure, they looked smart, but she missed her green robes!
Ah, well. |

| Super Slytherin Buddy | | ⅓ She-Snake Trio | | a normal girl with normal knees Taking a deep breath, Lilah entered the next room, making sure she wasn't leaving a trail of green goo behind her as she went. Now, if she could juuust remember that cleaning spell, this could all be fixed!
Glancing down at her green goo covered pants, she shrugged to herself before going over to listen to who supposedly was in charge of this challenge. Aw! Finally! Someone who introduced himself with a name! Mr. Sebastian Baley. Now, at least she knew one other person in the ministry! Well, not know...know...but she knew their name!
However, no matter how happy she was about knowing someone's name, it did not prepare her for the man's next words. Etiquette, professional...sales techniques...She would more willingly go back and fight the crazy lady than try to sell something to somebody. She wasn't and didn't have any of those skills! Especially being professional. It just did not work out for her at all. But it was nice that they had dressing rooms so they could changed. She definitely needed to get out of these green goo covered jeans.
First off though, she needed to pick which thing she was going to sell. Walking over to the three, humongous, magazines though, she frowned as she looked at the titles. This just wasn't her challenge was it. She didn't like any of these! Well, perhaps she could go with the fun one and try to sell Bertie Bott's Beans. They weren't all that popular with her classmates and friends when she was growing up, but it was still funny to see their expressions while they ate them.
Relieved or horrified. Yup, that was a good one to sell.
Walking into one of the dressing rooms, making sure that she looked at least semi decent, Lilah came back out with a nice new pair of jeans and a clean white blouse, and to complete her 'professional look', she put her hair up into a slightly messy bun. Good enough for her! That's as professional looking as she was going to get. Heck, she didn't even like wizard robes which was why she wore muggle clothing to work. Mwaha!
Rubbing out any wrinkles in her shirt, she looked up to see who she was supposed to sell the dangerous candy too.

| The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas. Wiping his hands on his shirt as he stepped into the next room he sighed. Well that could have gone better he mused quietly to himself as she smiled at the man, remembering his name for later. He was close to finishing - or so he hoped- and could only think of one thing. He. Was. Hungry.
Not so hungry that he could eat a hippogryff but it was getting pretty close. Walking towards the man he listened to what he had to say, a frown appearing on his face. So they had to dress appropriately eh he thought, nodding his head. He could do that, he prided himself on his appearance, when he wasn't reading his comic books. He could do this no problem, but wait, what? He had to sell something to someone? He'd rather go back and do the last three challenges again blindfolded, he didn't do well under this kind of pressure.
Allowing a hint of a sigh to escape his lips he looked down at his disheveled clothes, thinking he'd better change before anything else. Listening as he pondered what to wear he looked at the three items, knowing exactly which one he could do. He could sell chocolate right, it looked easy enough, everyone loved the confection to some degree. It wasn't like he couldn't bluff his way through it, what with his charming smile and devilish good looks.
Walking into the changing room he quickly changed into a nice pair of blue jeans, looking for a nice white button up shirt. Affixing it to his body he looked himself in the mirror quickly, running a comb through his dark hair until it looked somewhat normal. He looked like he could tackle anything and so he nodded, stepping back into the main room once more and striding towards the chocolate, taking a box or two.
Time to get to work!

Hogwarts RPG Name: Armand Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Damien Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year | Slytherin by heart This had to be the worst one. He had to do what?! Lovely. Seeing as how he normally only wore the best, except maybe for at home, he decided his attire was good enough. Still, he went into the changing room and looked at the mirrors... and didn't really like what he saw. His long hair streamed over his shoulders, mussed a bit from the last challenge, that one defiant lock ever in place over his eye. To him, he looked like Armand. The man that never died. Perhaps the one that should. He pulled out a tie and with a deep breath tied back his hair. Strangely, it felt like a part of him melted away, and he didn't like that any better. Oh well. For this, at least, he could be Drago Carracio... should be. And he made his way back out, patented customer service smile on his face, ready to play salesman.
He wasn't sure whether to approach him or allow them to approach him, so for a moment he watched and analyzed each of them. Eyes, stance, attention... whatever might help him to know them before they even spoke. Perhaps chocolate... At least that he knew fairly well.
