Display of Magical Plants

[Anna Banana]

As you make your way down the first level corridor, you come upon a few windowsills filled with a variety of multi-colored magical plants. Of course there's no Devil's Snare here, but what you will be able to enjoy is a gorgeous arrangement of pretty, pink puffapods, a few flutterby bushes, two or three flitterbloom plants. If the plants look a bit dry, please feel free to water them! Otherwise, just stand back, enjoy the scenery, and chat with a few friends!

OOC: All Ministry of Magic employees, regardless of their assigned department, are welcome to create their own roleplay in this thread.

On her way back to her office on level one, Lexi stopped to admire the gorgeous arrangement of magical plants lined up along the windowsill. She wasn't sure exactly who was responsible for their presence, but they seemed to have taken a lot of time and care with them. Lexi especially loved the pink puffapods. They looked for pretty and cheerful and...well, pink. There was just something that caught Lexi's eye when it came to a pink plant.

She took one last good look at them (well, one last good look for now) then turned to walk away. She had paperwork to do---and lots of it. Blah. Things on level one seemed a little lonely to her. With the Minister out for a while, it was just Lexi and Claudian on level one...and she hadn't even met Claudian yet.

Wes needed to take a break from level three otherwise--he might very well explode. Sam and Dan were going to drive him completely mad! He could already feel his blood pressure rising--yes, he could FEEL IT--and he was always stressed. ALWAYS. That wasn't good!

In an attempt to cool himself down, he walked down to the first floor in an attempt to try and find the Minister's office. He still wanted to say hi, since chances were they had worked together on level three at some point way back in the day. As he turned the corner however, he saw Lexi admiring some of the plants in the corridor. WOOOOOT! Finally, another chance to talk to her! How come it always seemed like she was just wandering about when he found her? Hehe.

"Lexi!" he called, walking up to her with a smile. "Admiring the puffapods?" he asked with a small chuckle.

Lexi practically beamed in excitement when she heard someone call out to her. One reason for her sudden happiness was that she now had a reason not to return to her level and start on that mountain of paperwork. Normally, Lexi didn't mind paperwork. She knew it was part of her job and something she had to do. However, she really didn't have a whole lot of friends in Great Britain yet, and she was starting to feel a little down. She missed her twin sister, who was still across the pond in America.

The other reason she was beaming in excitement was because someone had called her Lexi, which meant they knew her! That narrowed the source of voice down to either Wes, Sam, or Dan. She spun around and sure enough came face to face with Wes. "Wes! How nice to see you," she greeted. She motioned towards the puffapods and nodded. "Actually, yes, I was admiring the puffapods." She laughed a little then turned away from the plants. "So, how are you?"

"How are you?" he asked. He wondered if she was having better luck finding people to talk to--last time he had spoken to her, she was a bit lonely.

Oh well, he'd keep her company!

"Yeah, I imagine they do make things a lot livelier for you. You should get away sometimes, though. You know, just so they don't drive you completely mad." She sort of laughed again then distracted herself by a pretty pink puffapod that had suddenly caught her eye.

It was only when Wes asked how she'd been that Lexi turned her attention back to him. "Oh, it's been pretty good...although, level one is the exact opposite of level three. There's only two employees there, myself included, so it gets a little lonely," she again admitted. This was one of the main reason she roamed the corridors a good bit. Wes had probably picked up on the fact that she was always out and about. Then again, he seemed to always be out and about, too. "I've taking to strolling the corridors quite a bit."

Nessa took a look at the puffapod plants. Awww, they were so pretty!! One of them looked a little dry. She pulled out her wand and pointed it at the plant. "Auguamenti." a steady stream of water flowed from the end of her wand. Once the plant looked watered enough, Nessa stopped the water and put her wand back into the pocket of her robes.

"Yeah, I'm all for a bit of goofing around, but with those two I feel like I need to treat them like they're five," Wes explained with a grin. "I've taken to locking myself in my office a lot more, and that's helped," he said with a chuckle. And since one could only sit around so long without going mad, he took to taking walks. It was very nice, and he liked the workout. It made his already amazing leg muscles look even better!

"The corridors are very nice...plus we can keep an eye out for anyone vandalizing the corridors," he added with a grin. It was like being a prefect! Only better cause you didn't have to wear that silly badge.

Wes had never been prefect. Thank goodness.

At the sound of someone casting the water spell, Lexi turned to see a woman taking some time out to water a few of the puffapod plants. She smiled and nodded a greeting before turning back to Wes.

Lexi supposed that what was always said about gold and silver was true---one man's silver is another man's gold. This, to her, meant that what one person took for granted usually meant the world to someone else. Now Sam and Dan didn't mean to world to her (she'd just met them, for Merlin's sake), but she would give anything for another employee or two on her level. She hated to say it, but she'd almost welcome coffee and water throwing in the Minister's office.

She decided to change the topic, though, and try and get to know Wes a little better. Most of the conversations so far had revolved around what Sam and Dan were up to. "So, Wes, how's your family doing?" she asked. It was a subtle way of figuring whether he was single, married, had children, etc., etc. Not that it matter to Lexi whether he was single or not, but at least it was a start in getting to know him better.

Nessa nodded back at the woman. She stuffed her hands in her pockets and continued to watch the plants. They gave off a sort-of calming effect that made one drowsy almost. Mabey that's where she fitted in, with the plants? Probobly was, considering she'd always been the oddball.... that and there weren't that many people around her age. Not at work at least. Most people never expected ninteen year olds to work for the ministry of magic.... or in the beast division for that matter. But of course, this was comming from the girl who tried to convince her parents to get her a thestral at the age of nine.

Chad was bored. And if he got one more complaint about illegal niffler breeding, he was going to scream. Or drown his stomach in coffee.

Ooh, that last one sounded nice.

He was on his way to try and see his lovely lady before the day was done. Perhaps they would make dinner plans...go see a show? Hmm...Oh look..that...woman! What was her name? Errr.....OHYEAH.

"CARLEYYYYY," he called out happily, stopping front of her. What in the world made him call her Carley, he had no clue. It sounded a lot smoother than 'Alexandra', which worked out for him "Bonjour!" He smiled, practically bouncing on his heels.

Lexi opened her mouth to introduce herself, but the woman she was about to speak to seemed really distracted with the plants. Maybe she wasn't here for conversation. Maybe she really was here simply for the plants. For a moment, the Senior Undersecretary turned back to Wes, but then she thought better of it and turned to the woman once again. "It's nice to meet you. I'm L---..."

Her eyes near about popped out of her head when she heard someone call for a "Carley." Her heart skipped a beat out of fear that she was the Carley being spoken to. She'd unintentionally picked up that nickname in the American Ministry of Magic. Apparently, her co-workers thought it would be funny to call her Carley Carlton. The name, of course, had stuck like glue, and she'd never been called Alexandra or Lexi again.

She'd never told any of her co-workers in the British Ministry of Magic about the nickname in hopes that they'd never find out. Someone was currently being called "Carley," though. She turned to the woman looking at the plants, thinking that maybe she was named Carley and was the one being called. "Are you Carley?" she asked,a hopeful look on her face. Carley was a name she liked, but Carley Carlton was a bit much.

Her attention was diverted to Chad Stryker---the source of the voice---when he stopped right in front of her. Oh there was no doubt who he was talking to now---her. "Carley? Wait---whaa---how did you...?" she asked, a dumbfounded look on her face. "...bonjour."

Chad's smile contrasted "Carley's' dumbfounded look. Aw, and she responded in french too! How cute. "Is my lovely lady in today," he asked, clearly not catching on to her strange look.

Eventually, Lexi's mumbling stopped and she just sort of froze in horror---or confusion---or maybe even amazement. How in Merlin's pants did that blasted name find me here? She cleared her throat and composed herself, smoothing out her skirt for added effect. "Chad, how are you today?" she asked, still trying to get over her shock. Oh, cut the formalities, Lexi!

"I...I'm sorry. I just have to ask you. How did you know to call me Carley?" she asked. "Have you been talking with anyone in the American Ministry of Magic?" It if had been her sister who'd been responsible for this, she'd...she'd...she'd...do nothing, she supposed. Merlin, though! She nervously glanced over at Wes and this unknown woman looking at the plants. Maybe neither had actually heard Chad's greeting.

Lexi heard Chad answer her question about how he was doing, but she honestly wasn't paying too much attention to that part of the conversation anymore. It was unbelievable---UNBELIEVABLE---that the one thing she hoped to keep away from the British Ministry of Magic was the one thing Chad just randomly decides to bring up.

She blinked and wiped the shocked expression off her face. She didn't want him to think she was mad at him or anything like that. "Well, I...I...it's sort of an old nickname from the Ministry of Magic. A few of my former co-workers, including my sister, thought it would be fun to call me Carley Carlton," she admitted. She made a face at the mere mention of the name.

Chad dropped the smile. She did not seem so pleased with his new nickname for her. Aww, the way she explained it, it sounded like they had done it to make fun of her. Ohhh...he didn't want to make fun of her.

"I am sorry, Mademoiselle," he frowned gently. "I did not know. I wasn't going to say it to make fun though." He was a little too old for that. Not too old to annoy, though.

Her face fell a little, too, as she realized she may have hurt her new friend's feelings. "Oh, Chad, there's no need to apologize. I know you'd never do anything to intentionally hurt me," she assured. "Besides, if I ever find a funny nickname for you, you better believe I'll fight fire with fire." She gave a joking look, though, to let him know she wasn't serious.

"Oh, and you don't have to call me Mademoiselle. We're friends. You can call me Lexi," she added. Although, she had a funny feeling she wouldn't always be called Lexi by this man. She had a feeling he'd tempt her whole "fight fire with fire" threat at least once or twice...or ten or twenty times.

Nessa watched the two converse. Huh, Chad Stryker, that rang a bell..... Oh!!! Duh!! He was the head of her department. Wow and you'd think she knew these things. Nessa smiled and politely backed up a few steps so as to not eavesdrop on their conversation. Okay so the lady's name she'd been talking to waaaaas.....?? It sounded like she'd been about to tell her but hadn't gotten to it. And then that Chad guy had said something about a Carley. Wow.... confusing much? Nessa turned and watched the plants again.

Wes blinked. He...was confused. Who was Carley and why was this dude calling Alexandra that? He watched them in confusion for a few moments. Okkk soo apparently Carley and Lexi were the same person...

Blink blink. He just stared at them with his blue eyes before finally thinking it was time to speak up.

"Erm...HI," he said with a smile, remembering his manners and holding out his hand for a shake. "I'm Wes Kutcher--Department head," he knew he had seen this dude around the Ministry before...was he another Department Head too? Perhaps a Division Head somewhere?

...and in a matter of moments, Alexandra seemed to be forgotten about. Her eyes darted from man to man as Wes and Chad did their introductions. She was about to either engage in polite conversation with the woman watering the plants or simply stroll on off, when Chad told her to---as he so elegantly put it---bring it on.

She blinked a few times before opening her mouth to reply. She closed it shortly afterwards, though, when she realized she didn't necessarily have a plan. She needed a plan---or an embarrassing nickname for him. One or the other would do. So instead of talking at all, she just nodded then changed the topic. "You don't interrupt anything, Chad. I'm just happy to be meeting more and more people, so the more the merrier," she said.

A nearby plant caught her attention, and it was then when she realized they'd been standing around the plants for quite a while. "I'm going to head to the cafeteria. Would either of you like to join me?" she asked.

Wes had only met Antigone and...now Chad from the other levels. Then Alexandra, of course. He'd spent too much time babysitting Dan and Sam to get out much. Blehh.

MMMM cafeteria! As soon as she spoke, Wes realized just how hungry he was. Oops. He'd forgotten to each lunch today! Wes NEVER forgot about food! "I'd love to," he said with a smile, glancing at Chad to see if he was coming along as well.

Nessa soon became bored of watching the plants and decided to go somewhere else. She'd heard there was an aquarium somewhere.... She looked off at the other three. Surely they wouldn't notice if she left? She decided they wouldn't and headed off in search of the possible aquarium.

Alexandra waved and muttered a quiet "Bye," when she noticed the woman who'd been watching the plants make her leave. Perhaps a change of scenery would do Alexandra some good, as well. It didn't matter to her where she went, she just sort of felt that she'd been at the magical plant display for quite some time now.

*ahem*

She quietly cleared her throat then glanced over at Chad and Wes. "I think I'm going to head on, too. I've got a bit of paperwork to do in my office, and if I want to leave on time this afternoon, I should get started," she explained. She probably should have started on her paperwork hours ago, but she got distracted by...well, Wes and Chad. "Thanks for the talk, and I'll see you around later." She gave both a smile before turning and heading off.
