DADA Lesson 2: Belle's School

[Cassirin]

Rae felt ill. It was too early in the day, and she always felt ill at this point in the day. Still, she opened the classroom with a petulant look that she'd learned from her young daughters and sat at her desk. She finally just put her head down on her desk, waiting for the students to arrive.

No. Not "the students". The girls.

She fell asleep.

Jillian entered the classroom, dazed. She sat down somewhere near the front.

"Hello Professor." she greeted, but the Professor seemed asleep.

[Liisa]

When Astrid arrived to class, she saw a precious sleeping professor inside. She tip-toed in, so as not to wake her, and picked a seat right up front. She silently took her bag and hung it on the back of the chair. Then she turned towards the door so that she could warn anyone coming in to be quiet.

Amelia entered the classroom and was about to take her usual seat in the front when she noticed Rae with her head on the desk. EEK! What was it with these professors? First St Toussaint ... then Lainey... then Shackleton... and now Rae!? What was going on here?

Blinking she walked up to the desk and squatted down a little. "Erm Professor Rae? Are you alright?" This was weird.

With her long ponytail swinging behind her, Willow slid into the Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom, with a little smile on her face. She was in an exceptionally good mood.

"Hello Professor, Rae. How are you to--", she stopped dead, and tilted her head to the side. Was Rae asleep? "Professor?", she asked tentatively again, as she took seat in the middle of the classroom.

Tomasina walked into the class and was surprised to see the Professor dozing at her desk. She quietly walked to her seat, near the Gryffindor girl that had smiled at her the other day and she sat down. She smiled at her today.

Ari walked into the room a bright happy smile playing across her face until she saw professor rae asleep on her desk. "Oh dear..." she muttered, walking slowly over to where she saw Mia. "Um, is it me or is there something fishy going on? Professor Rae never falls asleep in class." she whispered to her friend as she sat down,looking at the headmistress with concern.

Rae started awake at someone talking to her and rubbed her eyes at the girls who had already arrived. "I..." She could try out the 'just resting my eyes' line, but no one ever believed it. "I'm tired," she admitted.

[Nattie]

Isabella wandered into the classroom that was steadily filling up. Noticing Professor Rae seemingly asleep.

As quietly as she could, trying not to draw attention to herself, she hugged her books to her chest and made her way to a desk at the back of the classroom. As she sat down, she placed her shoulder bag under her seat and managed to spill everything out of it noisily. "Clumsy" she scolded herself, going bright red as she bent down to pick her things up.

Astrid saw the Slytherin prefect come into the classroom and could not believe her eyes when she got a smile from her. Oh my goodness! she thought. At first she thought that maybe she was smiling at someone else. But when she turned around she remembered that no one was sitting behind her. She was smiling at me! Yay!! she thought and immediately returned the smile with a huge, sincere grin.

She could now hear the Professor stirring and returned her attention to her. "Hello Professor. How are you today? she asked, still feeling a little concerned.

Amelia heard someone come up behind her and whisper something in her ear. Turning around she saw it was just Ari, so she simply nodded before looking back to the Professor.

The Professor attributed it to being tired, which she could kind of believe but had this feeling there was much more to it. "Okay Professor. Perhaps you should get some pepperup potion?" she suggested, shrugging. Last think they needed was a half-asleep professor teaching them defense.

She giggled at the girl, "Hi I'm Tommy Riddle," She said holing out her hand for her to shake. She wanted to make new friends and this girl seemed nice enough to befriend.

Ari frowned, though believing the professor didn't say anything that contradicted her. She couldn't even get a sense for the professors emotions, and that right there told Ari something was up. Frowning again she settled back in her seat and look on, brows furrowed in contentment. "Would you like a chocolate frog professor?" She asked green eyes crinkled slightly. Oh boy she looked like a fool now...

[Cassirin]

"No... no, it's nothing like that," she stood and stretched, her robes pulling across her body oddly. "I'm just... you know... I shouldn't take strange potions in my condition..." Had she forgotten to tell the girls? Oh well... they'd figure it out soon enough.

"Have a seat, and we'll get started in a moment. I want your wands ready, but we'll start with notes."

Ella straightened up as the professor came to her normal pace with rubbing her eyes. "Any help you want from us, Professor?" she asked in true concern.

But she took out her wand as they were instructed to get their wands ready. Sitting ready with her wand and parchment, Ella looked around quickly to see others.

Amelia blinked and rose to full height when the Professor stood up. She looked at her curiously though when she mentioned her condition. Meh? Something was totally up. Shrugging it off for now, she backed up into a seat next to Ari and took out her notes.

Condition? Willow's eyebrows pulled together in confusion. Was Professor Rae losing her mind just like the Ministry teachers were? Hopefully not. Willow liked her. Besides, now that she thought about it, the Ministry people were not losing their minds, they were already insane.

In Willow's opinion the last place that those people should be was at Hog--Belle's. A room in St. Mungos semeed like the right place for those teachers.

But no, Professor Rae could not be losing her mind. She just didn't look like the type of person that could end up being mentally unstable. Maybe she was just sick, or something like that.

Shrugging a little, Willow took out her wand, ink and parchment.

[Waddles]

Juniper blinked once, then twice. As she had been walking in, she could have sworn that the headmistress was asleep. Odd, but class hadn't started yet. And sleep was healthy, so there was no reason for her to question Rae's nap. Unless she was ill, but... Professor Rae didn't get ill. It was plain unheard of. So instead of questioning the woman's health as the other girls did, Juniper merely sat down silently, although she did keep a wary eye on the professor, in case she should do something to make them actually think she was ill.

Wand out... and notes. Juniper quickly placed her wand on her desk, and arranged her parchment, quill and ink. Right. Now she was ready for class to start.

[Cassirin]

Rae spoke in a soft, sing song voice as she recited, ""The time has come," the Walrus said,/ "To talk of many things:/ Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--/ Of cabbages--and kings--" She pulled herself up on her desk and smiled at them.

"So. We're surviving our first year as Belle's Girls. It's pretty awful sometimes, right?"

She eyed the Professor carefully. She did look tired but why did she seem conscious about her body? And what was this 'condition' she spoke of? Was she...? No...but there was a possibility that she was...

Jillian put the thought somewhere in the back of her head. She pulled out her wand from her robes and laid it on the desk. She then proceeded to take out her quill, some parchment and ink, ready to take notes.

Then she looked at the Professor. Oh, Belle's was pretty awful alright. Extremely girly too.. She just nodded though, not actually saying how she felt.

Amelia kept her focus as best as possible on the Professor. Then Rae started to speak in a sing song type voice, which startled the Hufflepuff slightly. She had no idea that that Professor could sing!

She simply nodded at her question to them, sort of unable to speak much as she was still quite shocked by the sing song voice. "Just a bit," she muttered quietly.

Astrid took out her parchment and her wand just like she was told. Her mind kept going over and over what Professor Cassirin had said though.

"I'm just... you know... I shouldn't take strange potions in my condition..."

She remembered all to well when her Aunt used that term last year. Her then pregnant Aunt that was. Now Astrid couldn't help but get a little excited. Could it be?

[Angie]

Shoes? Ships? Sealing wax? Cabbages? Kings? What on earth? Perhaps Rae was indeed losing her mind. Willow eyed her carefully.

"First year?", Willow asked quietly, "So this is going to be Permanent, Professor?", the third year Ravenclaw added sadly.

Bleh. Ridiculous new school.

[Cassirin]

"Come now... let's be honest with each other," Rae urged, her eyebrows knit in worry at their silence. "Surely this hasn't changed you all... made you a little less brave and a little less sure of who you are. Shall I go first or is someone still themselves inside the pretty candy shell Mrs. Cooper has made you wear?"

Ari nodded and swallowed, "Kinda" she said sadly, not allowing herself a sigh. She took out her ink, the special kind she loved and unscrewed the lid, hoping no one would knock her desk. "I'm still myself professor, though I find that I can't speak my mind anymore, to anyone. I've kept things bottled up inside and it's not good for me ... or anyone else." she replied, looking up into the older woman eyes, wondering why she was saying this. "I just want my home back Professor, anyway I can." she added shyly.

First Transfiguration and now this? Ari blinked and hoped nothing she said would loose her points.
