Professor Norma Shaw's Office

[Lindie Kaing]

As you enter Professor Shaw’s office your foot first meets the bright pink shag carpet that envelopes the entire office. The walls are covered with sparkly gray wallpaper, as for the curtains on each end of the room, are simply a bright shade of silver. A shiny silver nameplate engraved with name 'Norma Shaw' is permanently stuck to the front of the desk.



A very old woman is seated behind the desk wearing a bright blue dress underneath an offwhite cardigen clears her throat to grab your attention. "What can I do for you?" she sighs with her most bored tone, since you clearly disturb her precious time.

Cora skipped up to Professor Shaw's office, carrying a bag which no doubt held endless treats for her treasured teachers. She may be stuck in this hell for now, but she may as well enjoy it.

"Professor Shaaaaw?" Cora trilled, knocking softly in the door. "May I come in?"

Sara walked in and said "Hi, My name is Sara."

Jessica was not very fond of the new situation at school, but she wanted to make the best of this year. First of all, she wanted to meet the new teachers and see how bad they really are.
The girl headed for Professor Shaw's office, sighing at the thought that the boys would have Professor Fabian Clark as their Ancient Runes professor.
Jessica knocked at the door slowly, hoping Professor Shaw wouldn't be disturbed by her visit. In case of anything, she brought a lovely bunch of flowers with her. Hopefully the Professor wasn't allergic to them or anything like that.
The Hufflepuff waited patiently by the door.

SNEAZE!

Shaw appeared as she turned a corner, walking towards her office and to no surprise students were already accumulated. “Wonder what they want?” she muttered to herself, “not really..”

SNEAZE! Bringing a napkin up to wipe her nose.

“I like nothing better than order, so who was here first?” she narrowed her eyes behind those thick spectacles that rested halfway down her nose.

Cora beamed at Professor Shaw. "That would be meeee, Professor Shaw." She said brightly, raising her hand. "Oh Professor, do you have allergies?" She asked, her blue eyes wide with concern. Ohhh dear. A sneazing teacher was never a happy one.

"I have a hankie if you need one." She said pleasantly. "Unless you already have one."

“No No, never been to Algeria. Too much desert and the sand clogs my airways” she waved a dismissive hand at the girl she was talking too much so quickly that it came out as an obscure language. “Since your cheeky why don’t you come in first?” that came out as an order as Norma tottered into her office.

GASP. Cheeky? Cora? Jeez, you'd have never thought the the two words would be used in the same sentence. However, she dismissed it, and walked elegantly into Professor Shaw's office. Well. As elegantly as the clumsiest person alive can walk, without tripping over something.

"Sorry to bother youuu Professor. It's not overly important, but as you're new and all, I thought I'd come and say hiii." Cora said brightly. "And I brought you a gift." She smiled.

Norma lolled her head back and laughed as the girl called her new, “I’m in no way new darling” she deliberated before..

SNEAZE!

Shaking her head slightly she looked over the girl, “sit down.. sit down. I’m sure its not you whom makes me sneaze. Now you wanted to know about Phi to give as a gift? Lets see” her eyes peered up at the ceiling thoughtfully “is there something specific you wanted to know about the 21st greek letter in particular?”

Cora beamed. Hehehe. She liked this eccentric old lady already. "New here, madame." She said, smiling. And then she sat down, and peered about the office. "You have a lovely office, Professor Shaw." She commented, her eyes sparkling in awe. She looked back at the Professor, and then pulled her gift from her bag.

She placed the book on the table, and then reached back to her bag, to retrieve the cheesecake. "I brought you a book on Runes. I hope you don't have it already. It's out new. And a homemade strawberry cheesecake." Cora smiled again. "The 21st Greek letter? Oh I am extreeeemely interested in Runes and letters and such." She said excitedly.

Chalice knocks on the door. " Excuse me Professor, I was wondering if there would be any homework for today. I am very interested in the study of runes and would like to get a head start if that is acceptable." said Chalice in a slightly nervous tone, though she looked calm and collected on the surface.

Norma was baffled by this young girl. Firstly she talked too much which made it difficult to hear what she wanted to say. Secondly she brought all sorts of gifts. Was she bribing her? Now that has done it, puts a different face on the cake as she always said. Bribing a ministry official while on duty. She brought her fingers up her face to nudge her glasses up the bridge of her nose. "I'm only saying this once young lady, I do not accept gifts. And any gifts I do accept, if any at all" she brought her index finger up in defense, "I'm not implying that I will, however, any gifts intended would mean bribing a ministry official while on duty. So I do tell you that I will not accept any of it. And you shouldn't be giving any of it. It clearly shows that you had no knowledge of such information and I'm sure no insult was intended by it" she peeked down at the girl for closer look, just in time a knock at the door was heard followed in by a student.

"Ah, child. I do not have homework assigned yet, but i do intend to right after class" she perked her head up at the wall to catch the time. "Which appears to be now!" she stood up and shooed both girls out of the office locking the door behind her, "come along both of you to class!".

Kayla made her way to the old bag's office and lent up against the wall, with her arms folded across her chest. Well if the stupid cow thought this was going to be an easy detention she had another thing coming to her.

Norma made it up to her office in good strides, she opened the door before pointing to the girl to move in. "The sooner we get this started the sooner you can leave, no need making faces at the walls".

Kayla moved into the office and scowled at the Professor's comment. "So what now?" she asked.

Kayla didn't bother to refrain from rolling her eyes this time. "I already told you what happened outside. If you didn't believe me out there I don't think being in here is going to make any difference. You're just going to twist the story so the precious little Slytherin doesn't get into trouble...because we wouldn't want to upset the Minister now would we."

Rae knocked on Norma's door with a heaviness to her movements. She was feeling tired and generally not well, and on top of that she had to deal with staff disputes. She opened the door (it was HER school, afterall!) and stuck her head in. "I say, Professor Shaw... do you need some help? I've heard there was a fight on the school grounds."

Kayla looked up at the sound of the headmistress' voice and she breathed a small sigh of relief and her body relaxed somewhat. At least if Professor Rae was here then nothing bad could happen to her right?

"Hmmph" Norma grunted not believing one word escaping the girl's lips! "That tone won't work with me young lady!" she churped as she made her way around the office. How you behaved on the grounds was dispicable, by no means a witch your age should act in this manner, duelling like a bunch of dafted banshees! We teach girls for merlin's sake! This is not a club for pugilists!" She had an earful more for the girl, unfortunately she needed to catch her breath as well.

Shaw's arms came to rest on her hips when someone walked into her office sans audience request! "Headmistress" she bobbled her head in courtesy, "Yes" she answered with a smile "I do believe whelps can pee. Curious you came all this way to ask me that?" she raised a brow at Headmistress Rae, "you sure your feeling well? You seem pale" she trailed off thoughtfully taking in Rae.

Oh... yes. Norma was quite deaf. "I'm FINE," she shouted, glancing apologetically at the other girl. "I just hope to hear that both girls will be joining you in detention."

"Glad you feel well!" she acknowledged with a nod regarding her health, even though the woman was considerably pale.

That one" she pointed her index finger towards the girl in her office, "too hostile to put anyone else with her" Norma frowned, "caught her scuffling with a Slytherin then tried to attack Wystan. The other is behind with Dion and Wystan".

"Then why have a duelling arena if we can't practice" Kayla muttered. "Teach..." Kayla snorted..."what exactly?"

"I'm afraid she's delusional as well" Norma frowned down at the girl, "the duelling arena is up on the first floor and not at the courtyard. You had ample time to tell us, the professors that arrived on sight. But instead you decided to play word tags and attack Wystan. Beats me which offense is worse than the other".

Kayla took a few deep breaths to calm herself and looked at the headmistress instead. "We weren't duelling in the courtyard Professor, we were having a disagreement as such. Amanda hit me in the face, I didn't defend myself...actually I never touched her in anyway. And Wystan grabbed me by the robes when I said I was coming to see you, she also drew her wand on me and placed the silencing charm upon me" she explained. "Admitedley I tried to get the woman off me but she wouldn't let go."

"And I never got the chance to tell my side of the story because I was too busy being hit in the head with a rolled up magazine by Dion" she added. "Professor Brooks was there and I told her what happened."
