The Death Chamber

[the.time.is.now]

This room is rather large and shaped as a rectangle. Lights shine dimly, but you can still see sunken stone pit in the center of the room, some twenty feet deep. Stone benches run all around the room and ascend in steep steps away from a raised stone dais in the center of the pit. An ancient, crumbling stone archway, unsupported by any surrounding wall, stands on this dais. This archway is hung with a tattered black curtain which flutters very slightly as though it had just been touched, although the air in the room stays still and cold.

Rhiannon entered the Death Chamber and immediately did a cursory check of the room. Satisfied that everything was as it should be, she took out her wand and conjured a desk and chair by the entrance. Sitting behind the desk, she pulled from her pocket a small stack of papers the size of a matchbook. Pointing her wand at it she said clearly,"Engorgio!" As the papers returned to their normal size, Rhiannon bent over them and re-read her latest assignment. She had yet to meet her employees, but she already had tasks for them to do. They had much to accomplish as the brain room was short of brains. She frowned as she realized she had not yet had a chance to contact Doyle Braxton on this matter. Sighing she leaned back and waited patiently for her employees to arrive.

Estelle stumbled into the Death Chamber. When she had first found out she was going to work in the Death Chamber, she had basically freaked out. The fact that she was working in a place where there existed a Death Chamber was freaky enough, but to actually work in here. She had calmed down a little since then.

Walking towards the desk and chair, Estelle greeted her department head. "Morning Rhiannon." She smiled at her and continued. "You wanted to see me?"

Rhiannon looked up as her first employee entered the room. Giving the girl a welcoming smile, she quickly identified her as Estelle Evanstar from the picture in her file. "Good morning Estelle, it's nice to meet you." Pleasantries out of the way, Rhiannon's face quickly took on a serious look as she went on to say," I'm sorry to cut short getting aquainted, but it would seem that the Brain Room is in dire need of more brains. So, first off, we need to get all of our equipment in top condition. I need you Estelle to make sure this is done. Done quickly, but done well. Time is of the essence. Once all the equipment is ready, we shall be harvesting some brains. I need to check in with Doyle Branxston on the exact number he needs. Therefore, I give you permission to inform the others as they arrive to help you clean the equipment." Rhiannon indicated with her hand a rather large cabinet to her left."You will find everything you need in here. After the equipment is clean, make sure to have everything set up for extractment. I would also like you and the others imput on who's brains we shall be using." Giving Estelle a smile, she asked, "Any questions?"


ooc:I would suggest any witch or wizarrd that died in book 6 and try to pick one's that have something worth picking theiir brain for.

Estelle blinked. Soo many instructions at once was a little hard to follow. She was a little lost. Getting the job done properly was a lot more important, so she recited what she thought Rhiannon had said again.

"Okay." She said. "So you want us to get all our equipment in working condition. Then you want us to harvest some brains and you want us to discuss who's brain we will be using."

She waited to see if she was right. "What sort of equipment is in there?" She asked her, for she had never cleaned any of the death room equipment before. Or harvested brains for that matter.

Rhiannon gave Estelle a rueful smile, "My apologies Estelle. I am used to doing things on my own and tend to expect those around me to know everthing I know."

Walking her over to an array of, one might say frightening looking equipment. "These are the instruments we shall be using during the extraction process. As you can see, they need to be in much better condition than they are now." She pointed out the slightly dull looking knives,clamps,saws and such.

"In the cabinet I showed you earlier you will find a variety of cleaning potions.And before you ask why not just use magic? Let me explain.All the equipment must be treated with special solutions that ward off certain unfortunate..situations that may occur. The potions are labeled as to which instruments they are used to clean. As far as the actual extraction process, I will show you how this is done when we are ready to perform such a task. For now, I just need you to prepare the instruments and think about which brains we might want to use."

Turning to face Estell once more she asked,"Does that clear it up for you at all?"

"That's alright." Estelle smiled at her boss when she apologised and followed her towards the equipment. She jumped a little when she saw them. Knives, clamps, claws and all the equipment one would find in a muggle hospital. She starred at them for a while and then turned to Rhiannon and nodded. They definately needed cleaning.

Cleaning potions? Why not just use magic?

Her question was answered rather quickly. Listening to her, Estelle nodded when she was asked if it was cleared up in her mind. "Yes." She smiled. "Thank you." She said and looked back at the equipment.

"Very well then, I shall leave you to it. May I remind you Estelle to please stay clear of the Veil." Rhiannon pointed to the flowing cloth in the archway on the raised stone circle. It is separated from the rest of the room with good reason.Anyways, I shall not be gone long." Giving the girl a reassuring smile, Rhiannon made her way to the Brain Room.

Estelle smiled as her boss walked out of the chamber. Fantastic. This was something Estelle had certainly not expected when she had joined the Deaprtment of Mystries. How could a romantic girl like her have ended up working in the Death Chamber? She was expecting to be in the Hall of Prophacies or something. Or maybe even the locked room. Though she wasn't sure if people actually worked in there. It was locked and everything.

Estelle made her way towards the wardrobe which Rhiannon had pointed out to her and pulled it open to find herself looking at bottles and bottles full of different coloured potions. All of them were probably for cleaning. She picked one bottle with a yellowish looking potion in it from the top shelf and read the lable, supposing that one of the strongest cleaning potions will be placed on the top shelf and she was right. She grabbed a cloth from the fresh pile which were placed on one corner of the wardrobe.

She made her way back towards the disgusting looking equipment and stared at them again for a little while before she finally opened the bottle in her hands.

Ewwww. Gross.

A smell spread in the room as she opened that potion. She had never liked potions. It was a wonder how she had ended up getting an exceptional N.E.W.T in it.

Sighing a last time, Estelle grabbed a knife from the massive pile and poured some potion on the cloth and started to clean the knife.

Kate walked into the Death Chamber moments later and was hit by a sudden smell that was completly horrid. "Hello?". She covered her mouth as she looked around for someone else. It took a little bit, but she noticed a girl about her own age cleaning a knife. Kate walked over to her, hoping not to scare her, and softly said "Hi, I'm Katelyn. Do you need any help?". She definetly didn't like cleaning, but she figured it was the nicest thing to do and she might also have to clean this equipment if asked.

Victoria walked into the Death Chamber cautiously. She was not entirely sure what to expect. The name was a bit ominous. "Oh, hello," she said to the two other women there, covering her nose slightly from the ghastly scent that filled the room. She walked up to her new coworkers and smiled somewhat nervously at the brain harvesting instruments. "Care for some assistance?" she asked.

Rhiannon entered the Death Chamber with a purposeful stride. Seeing Estelle had been joined by two more girls, she made her way over to introduce herself and check on Estelle's progress.

"Hello. Rhiannon Knight, Death Chamber Division Head. And you are?"

"We have an assignment." She informed them. "The Brain room is running out of brains and we have to harvest some for them. First thing we have to do is clean this equipment." She said glaring at the pile.

Just then Rhiannon walked in. "So. How many brains do they want?" Estelle asked her.

Victoria looked at the three women in turn. "I'm Victoria Erbacam," she said, shaking everyone's hand. "Nice to meet you." Victoria raised her eyebrows - that were luckily hidden under her long bangs - at the mention of harvesting brains. Thankfully, she was not the squemish type, though harvesting brains is kind of pushing it.

Rhiannon smiled at the new arrivals and said,"Nice to meet you all." Turning to Estelle she went on to say in her usual serious tone,"I have spoken with Professor Doyle Branxton, the Brain Room Division Head, and he has informed me that he is in need of at least 3 possibly 4 brains. I believe we will be able to supply him with 3 that we have in storage. We will need to get started as soon as possible so I really need to have this equipment in order."

Leaning forward, Rhiannon picked up the knife Estelle had just cleaned and inspected it closely. Satisfied at what she saw, she went on to say,"Excellent work Estelle! I will leave you to finish cleaning the rest and if you would explain the cleaning process to.. "Rhiannon paused to look at the girl standing next to Estelle until she recognized her from her personel file. Then she smiled at her and continued, "Katelyn. She will assist you so we may get started all the sooner."

Turning to the last girl she said,"Victoria if you will come with me please?" Rhiannon led the last girl over to a side wall that had many small doors with name plates upon them. Gesturing to the rows of many doors she told her,"I need you to find the bodies of these three witches and wizards." From her pocket she pulled a piece of parchment and handed it to the girl.

She waited a moment while Victoria read the list then went on to say,"After you find the bodies, I need you to prepare them for harvesting. This is done by making sure that their heads are shaved completely and sterilized. Since the bodies are magically preserved we are unable to use magic upon them for fear of certain....conseqences. Therefore, the extraction process is done non-magically. Hence, all of our lovely equipment over there. If you should finish your task before the others are done, please assist them in theirs."

Rhiannon turned and headed once more toward the door. Turning back to face her employees she said,"I need to see the Minister and have him sign off on the release of the harvested brains. I shall not be long. Are there any questions? Oh,and before I forget. I will remind you all to stay clear of the Veil please." Rhiannon pointed to the flowing curtain between the archway on the raised stone dais.

Katelyn took in what Rhiannon had said and even glanced over at the veil to make sure she knew what her head was talking about . "Nope" Katelyn quietly added to the head. She then turned to Estelle, who was cleaning a knife with a cloth and what must have been the source of the smell, and waited for her to explain exactly what she had to do.

Victoria followed Rhiannon over to the wall. She took the parchment and inspected it carefully. She listened to the instructions aptly and nodded. "Certainly," she said softly. While Rhiannon was speaking to the others, Victoria began searching for the bodies, only looking up to steal a glance at the veil.

It seemed to have something left over on it, but Katelyn knew it was best not to think about what was on it. She then proceeded to walk over to the wardrobe and look through until she pulled a dark green potion off the bottom shelf and a cloth.

"Hopefully we'll run across something pleasant smelling" she said as opened the potion and breathed in the smell of rotten eggs. She then proceeded to clean the clamps as she let out a sigh. "How long have you been cleaning that?" Katelyn asked as she looked up at Estelle.

After reading through the lower four rows of name plates, Victoria found the nameplate belonging to Amelia Susan Bones. "Aha," she muttered and pulled open the door. A stong smell filled her nostrils, though it was not nearly as bad as the cleaning potions that her coworkers had to use. Victoria blinked a few times then pulled the drawer that the body was laying on out. "Hello, there," she said. Victoria glanced around the room, looking for somewhere to put the body while she shaved and cleaned it.
To her left were a few gurney-like tables that seemed to be alright for using. She pulled one over and put the body on it.

Estelle had lost track of time. It seemed like hours had passed cleaning that equipment, but it was only halfway through. She sighed and placed the equipment she had cleaned last on the pile with the freshly cleaned ones and looked at Katelyn. "I think I am going to take a break." She said and closed the bottle with the potion in it and placed it aside.

She smiled at Katelyn. "You coming?" She asked as she made her way towards the door, making a mental note to visit a toilet to wash her hands before going in the break room.

Having found the other bodies and put them on the tables, Victoria stood back to appreciate her work. The bodies looked peacful enough. She walked over to a table and found a clean razor to shave the bodies' heads with. Victoria had never been much of a hairdresser, but she supposed it wouldn't much matter, seeing as she just had to shave it all off. Tentatively, she began working on Amelia Bones, gently sliding the blade across Amelia Bones's scalp.
The result was satisfying. Amelia was now nicely bald, not a hair on her. Victoria just hoped she could do as well with the others.

Katelyn wiped the clamps over and over again with the clamps. There seemed to be something on it that wasn't coming off. Estelle was definetly doing it for a lot less time than she thought. "No but I can't say that I'm surprised" she replied.

Katelyn noticed Estelle get up after them sitting there cleaning for a while. She had even managed to from clamps to various other equipment. "Yeah that sounds good" she replied as she closed the potion for now and put the piece of equipment,that she was working on, with the other dirty equipment. She sighed out of relief. "I can't wait to get some fresh air" she said with a smile as she put the cloth and the potion aside. She then quickly followed Estelle out the door.

Rhiannon entered the Death Chamber and immediately went over to inspect her employees' work and check on their progress. Now that they had the Minister's approval, they would be able to start on the extractions. Seeing that a couple of the girls must be taking a break, she went over to the sizable pile of equipment they had already cleaned and inspected them closely. Giving a satisfied nod , she made her way over to Victoria.

"Ah Victoria, well done!" Rhiannon said approcingly as she checked the girl's handiwork with the razor. "Do as well with the other two and I will be most pleased." Giving her an approving smile, she made her way to her desk and started to fill out all the paperwork needed for them to get started.
