DADA Lesson 6

[Cassirin]

Professor Rae opened her door and took a deep breath. She hoped that this class would go better than last week's, especially considering that she didn't have any unknown people helping her teach the class and therefore disrupt the students.

She sat behind her desk and waited for her students to arrive.

[Aris]

Raven walked into teh classroom as she smiled at the professor. She made her way towards her desk and quickly sat down. She pulled out her wand and parchment and quill/ ink. She opened a book and looked at the professor.

"Hello Professor, I see i am here on time as usual." Raven said trying to make converstation with the teacher.

[Mrs. Weasley]

Mrs. Weasley followed Raven4Life into the classroom. Professor Rae has an obvious smile on her face which let Mrs. Weasley know everything is alright. She quickly finds a seat and gets what she will need for class out of her bag. Defensive charms that sounds like an interesting subject. I know the Slytherin students will enjoy it.

[Ron Potter]

Ron arrived to the DADA classroom, looking around. He spotted Raven, a fellow ravenclaw, and sat down next to her. He pulled out his books and parchment

[Aris]

Raven waved at Ron and smiled as he walked towards the seat next to her. She quickly moved some of her stuff and moved her curled hair. She looked at the teacher and smiled waiting patiently for her to begin.

[Cassirin]

"Alright, class," Professor Rae began warmly. "I'm sorry about my outburst at the end of our last class. Once again, I was out of line. But that was then, and this is now... let's go ahead and begin."

"Due to some... recent events, I want us to spend some time on Defensive spells. Those of you who were around last term, you may have already spent some time with these spells, but I believe they are worth looking at again. You never know when you will be in need of a Defensive spell... and obviously the best way to stay safe is to have some spells at your immediate disposal."

"Now... there are a variety of spells that I could have chosen to teach you today. I would like to start with Expelliarmus (pronounced ex-pel-ee-AR-mus). What can you tell me about this spell? Please remember, if someone sufficiently answers a question, there is no need for you to continue repeating that information."

[Ron Potter]

Ron took notes on the lesson. He did remember doing this before, but it didn't hurt to have a refreshment everyonce in awhile. After all, they probably would have to use this

[Aris]

Raven rasie her hand and smiled at teh professor.

"Expelliarmus is a spell that means to Disarm something. Such as to make some one drop there wand our stop them from doing something", she said trying to sound correct.

[Cassirin]

"Precisely, Raven... 5 points for Ravenclaw. The expelliarmus spell is used specifically for disarming an opponent. We always use it to remove a wand from a wizard or witch, however, most do not realize that the spell is effective on removing ANY weapon held by the person being cast against."

"When the spell is cast, the weapon, let's say its a wand in this case, is forcibly removed from the opponent's hand. It doesn't simply fall away. Typically, it flies into the hand of the person casting the spell. How might this be a useful advantage?"

[Mrs. Weasley]

It usually cause the person's wand to fly out of their hand, but I think Raven4Life's explanation about covers it.

[Aris]

Raven raised her hand again.

"That might be used to the advantage because the person doesn't have a wand on their body. They have no safety or protection on their body. It also gives you a chance to attatck or maybe get a good chance to run away".

[Cassirin]

"You're right, Raven... take five more points. The spell obviously leaves the opponent wandless, which can allow you more time to attack and/ or run away, depending on what the situation warrants. In addition, it also gives you an extra wand to work with."

"I want to remind you, of course, that using this spell DOES leave your opponent wandless, which means that any actions you take against that person after you have their wand are no longer in self-defense. The Ministry has been looking into legislation about this very issue for a while."

"Is there anything else you want to add about the spell, or questions you want to ask before we practice it together?"

[Aris]

Raven looks aroudn at the class and she raise her hand she quickly ask the professor.
" If the spell was created in a way that when you use the spell it would mkae their wand fly out their hand. That means that if you decided to attack them that you would be commiting murder or self-defense. I am noticing that there could be a big problem. But how has the Ministry solved this problem".

[Cassirin]

Professor Rae smiled. "I guess you're the only one who is curious about Expelliarmus today, Raven. Expelliarmus is purely a defensive spell, Raven. It is used with the intention of assisting in escaping or in incapacitating the opponent. Once the other person is defenseless, in theory, they should be easy to capture, stupefy, or otherwise render immobile. There really isn't a need to go for the kill or to continue with harmful hexes."

[Aris]

Raven jotted down notes and then smiled at the professor. She knew alot about the spell but there was always something new a professor can tell you that you never heard in her life. Professor Rae had explained the spell so good she was ready to try it out. Raven finsihed her notes and waited for the professor to start the next thing we would be doing.

[Cassirin]

"Since there are no questions, I will give us some time to practice. Please find a partner..." She waited as the class shuffled off into pairs. "Excellent. Now, please practice the spell. Expelliarmus is the incantation. I want to remind you," she said with a smile, "that you need to be gentle with each others' wands. I remember that when I learned this spell, a slightly less-than-graceful boy dropped his partner's wand and stepped on it. Please be careful."

[Aris]

Raven looked around and then looked for some one. She turned towards Ron and then took out her wand.
"Well obviously you are my partner. I have choosen you because you are the closes to me".
Raven grabbed him and pulled him in an empty area. she looked at him and sort of moved in her fighting stance.

"Are you ready?"

[Ron Potter]

Ron smiled, pulling out his wand. He got into a fighting stance

"Of coarse i am ready... just don't complain if i break one of your nails" He said in a joking tone.

[Aris]

Raven laughed/ gigled sarcasicly. She then lauched back.

"As hard i play on the field you are about to feel it in your body". She smiled and then pointed her wand. She made the patteren of the movement and focus. "Expelliarmus," she cried loudly and his wand zip inot her palm. Ron flew back like 2 foot and stopped. She gave him back his wand and smiled.

"Ok, your turn to try to get my wand out my hand".

[Ron Potter]

Ron rubbed his behind and stood up. He took his wand back
"Well, if you like to play ruff..." he said, "EXPELLIARMUS!"
Ron did the wand motion as he said it. He sent Raven backwards, her wand flying near him, he caught it. He laughed alittle, then through the wand back
"Sorry... i did'nt expect you to fly backwards like that"

[Aris]

Raven flew backwards and almost did a flip. She almost cried after she had fallen so hard. She had grabbed a brush and brush her hair. She had made sure her make up was ok. she then looked back at ron and walked towards him. She smiled and grabbed her wand and walked back.

"Ok, Ron that hurt. But I am fine. But i guess that is how you practtice so hard". Raven leaned back she made a huge pattern she then said teh spell in a yell "EXPELLIARMUS" Raven watched rons wand fly towards her in a harsh orce and cuahgt it and watched him do a back flip and fall on the floor. Ravne ran towards him and gave him his wand and rubbed his back. " Maybe we should stop practing. I dont want to hurt you and if you hurt me then that will be another story ". She helped him up and esorted him towards a desk. She sat him down and sat down beside him.

[Ron Potter]

"Dang Raven... that one packed alot of punch!" He said in an excited voice , "That was awesome!"

[Cassirin]

"That's enough," Professor Rae clapped her hands and the students turned to her. "Let's return to our seats and we can continue."

[Aris]

Raven looked at him and smiled.
"Ok, you are ok. Well i still think we should relax. I don't want to get hurt".
She sat down and looked at the professor.
"So, Professor how was our little practice'" she aksed teh Professor who seemed to be amazed with what happened.

[Cassirin]

"Well, you certainly were enthusiastic," Professor Rae said with a small smile. "I think you two will do quite well in using that spell against a foe, as will the rest of the class. Five points to each of you on a particularly impressive display, however. Thank you for your excitement about learning."

"For our next defensive spell, I would like you to tell me what you can about the Impedimenta spell."
