Staff Room

In the corridor branching off the Entrance Hall, you notice two stone gargoyles guarding a door. You will soon learn that these statutes love to gossip. For those that have been attending Hogwarts for a while, it is common knowledge that this room is for the staff members of the school. The grand mahogany door that separates the corridor and the room is typically locked, so it is best that you not to even attempt entering unless you want detention.

Beyond the door is a long, large circular table, big enough to fit each person employed at Hogwarts, stands front and centre. This is where all the professors and support staff sit and discuss important school matters, ranging from discussions on the curriculum to problem students. A large wardrobe, once home to a boggart, is placed next to a small table on one side of the room and is full of various coats and robes long forgotten by their previous owners. The table holds two boxes: one containing spare parchment and quills and the other confiscated student items.

The opposite end of the staff room is arguably the more popular spot in the room. Placed strategically by a large fireplace, comfy leather sofas and chairs provide an excellent place for the adults to socialise with each other or take a much-needed nap.

Five years of Hogwarts behind her and Kinsay James still had no idea what went on behind this mysterious mahogany door. It was a tragedy. Soooo she just wanted a peek. That's all. It's not like she was trying to break in. She was just. She was just curious. And. And according to Rowena Ravenclaw, curiosity was a good thing. So. So if anything, her efforts to investigate were laudable.

And this was the story she'd be sticking to.

The blonde checked the corridor once, twice, thrice over before reaching for the doorknob. Just a peek. That's all. Except. Except, it was locked... Which meant she'd swiftly pivot to Plan B.

(There was no Plan B).

Valentina walked down to the ground floor after class, thinking about getting a bite to eat before heading up to one of her least favourite places in school - the library. There was just a ton of homework to finish, she did enjoy pushing everything to the last minute after all.

.. the blonde paused mid-step, frowning, when she noticed kinsay try to open the door to the staff room. "You do know that we are not allowed to get in, right?"

Turning around to greet Val with a smile, Kinsay was quick to reply. "I know." She wasn't new. Of course she knew that the staff room was for staff. Plus. Technically, she hadn't done anything wrong yet so. So there wasn't really a need for the frown. "I just wanted to peek inside, that's all." Peeking and going inside were very different.

"But it's locked anyway so."

Wasn't Val even a liiiiiiiittle curious to know what went on behind these doors?

A peek inside? Val wasn't entirely sure if they could get a peek inside since the room was locked. She walked over to where kinsay was, the corners of her lips twitching a little.

"Well, if it's locked.. I don't see how we can take a look. Do you have any ideas?"

Well obviously they couldn't take a look now. It was locked. But Kinsay didn't know this when she first tried.

... Except she didn't say this. Instead, she shook her head and shrugged. "Not really. I don't even wanna see that badly anyway." It had definitely tickled her curiosity before, but ... Not enough to get into any real trouble over it. Plus, the moment had passed and she wasn't even all that curious anymore. There were better things to be curious about.

Like, "I wonder what Professor's talk about during staff meetings. Do you think they gossip about us?" Maybe she could ask the portraits. They'd probably know.

Val gave a light shrug of the shoulders. “I guess? I’m not sure. I think they have better things to talk about than gossip about us.” Like running of the school, class schedules, planning exams etc. “Why should we care even if they do?”

This whole interaction had Kinsay feeling some strange type of way, though she wasn't entirely sure how to place it. It was just that. She just. It felt like. Val had her feeling all sorts of small. And, like. Like really silly.

"It was just a question," she shrugged casually, laughing softly at herself and trying to rally despite how weird she now felt. "But nevermind. You're right." Kins looked back to the door for a moment, absently tugging on the chain of her necklace before her attention turned back to her housemate. "Anyway, I should probably find Emm. We have to finish a Charms project before class today." And she wasn't even lying because they did have a Charms project to finish so.

Val was oblivious to kinsay’s feelings because honestly? she didn’t really feel close to her anymore. She had no idea why or how that happened but.. val didn’t know the girl the way she used to when they were younger. Maybe she should address it but that would just be awkward… right?? um. Anywaaaay.

She simply offered her a tight smile. ”Right, of course. See you, kinsay.” With that, she turned and walked away, well aware that she was going to overthink this interaction later. Ugh.

The tight smile only made the weird feeling weirder, but Kins did her best to push through it as she offered Val a small smile in return. "See ya." And despite feeling awkward just standing here, that's exactly what Kinsay did as Val walked away. The alternative would've been to walk in the same direction and that would've been even MORE awkward. So. So she'd just have to wait for Val to disappear before heading off too.

So that's exactly what she did.

And when Val was gone, Kins hurried down the hallway in search of Emm.
