Funny House Headcanons

One of the greatest gifts within the Harry Potter universe is the opportunity to headcanon. While there’s so much information floating around, there’s still so much room for our creative juices to flow in whatever which way we desire them to. While we’re told plenty about the lives of the golden trio, there’s so much about the four Houses, House Common Rooms, and general House-student interactions that we don’t know about!

Do the Gryffindors play "the floor is lava" on the daily? Do the Ravenclaws have weekly study parties? How do Hufflepuffs really take advantage of the kitchen next door?

I'm sure you guys seen the posts going around on social media about Hufflepuffs and their 'finding' abilities at some point or the other. Anyway, there was one where it was said that an Easter Egg Hunt was cancelled after the Hufflepuffs kept finding all the eggs and I AM ALL FOR THIS

I've always thought that, although Ravenclaw are known for their intelligence, they may not necessarily get the best exam scores. Why? Oh, because when they were studying there was one really interesting point and they decided to research that more and now it's 3 am and they're in a rabbit hole of FASCINATING information that is absolutely not going to come up on the exam tomorrow.

^ THIS THIS THIS !!!!!!!!! one of the current ravenclaws i have is mega like this !!! especially because I view Ravenclaw more as studying for the sake of knowledge rather than studying for the sake of getting good scores (which I more so associate with Slytherin) getting off topic is SUCH an understandable occurrence




Speaking of Ravenclaws!!! I have a headcanon that during NEWTs season, the 7th years are up all night in the library studying and by the time they make it back up the towers to head to their dorms they have literally 0 brainjuice left in them to want to stand around and answer a riddle. "Oi, knock it off and let us in!!! We just want to sleep!!"

and then there's always the one or two first years who stick around inside to let them all in

Maybe it's because I am a true Hufflepuff, and I really like donuts, but I have this headcanon that Hufflepuffs EAT when STRESSED and whenever something really bad was happening at Hogwarts they would make DONUT TOWERS to help the little puffers cope.

I have this with my Gryffindors! Not donut towers but the stress and comfort eating

This is me. Honestly, if I'm interested in something I can spend hours researching it. But I also get MAJOR burn out because of the pressure I put on myself (which I think stems from my ambition so this is definitely a Ravenclaw/Slytherin crossover tendancy)

BUT ANYWAY.

Enough about me.

YES. I love this idea that they are just done with that knocker sometimes and cute firsties help out.



Another headcannon I have (and one I've seen around on tumblr and the like) is that Gryffindors get something relatively minor (e.g. a cold) and it is THE WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN THEY ARE GOING TO DIE but then when something serious happens (broken bones, etc) they just brush it of like it's nothing.

So, I've got a few House-related headcanons:

• I've always imagined the Room of Requirement having been made by Helga Hufflepuff. The purpose of the room would be to help any student in need, regardless of any House affiliation or purity of blood. I've seen this in many places on the internet, so I know I'm not the only one who thinks this.
  
  
• It would be super cool if the Slytherins had a room in their common room where the walls and ceiling were glass and they had an aquarium-esque view of what was going on under the surface of the lake. And over the years they've figured out some sort of sign language to communicate with the merpeople.
  
  
• Ravenclaw/Slytherin friendships are OP. They are the dream team. Just imagine what the pairing of brilliant and ambitious minds can do. I see these folk doing things that have a significant impact on the wizarding world.
  
  
• When Hufflepuffs get angry, it's scarier than any other House. Nobody expects that kind of rage to come from a Hufflepuff. (Facts.)
  
  
• Ravenclaws always have spare quills in their bags, though don't lend them out because they never know if they'll get them back. (Reminds me of my RL students when it comes to borrowing pencils and pens. Lolololol.)
  
  
• I like to imagine that Ravenclaws have, like, a communal bookshelf in their common room and that it's a tradition that they leave behind a copy of their favourite book before they leave Hogwarts. Low-key LOLing at the idea of wizards reading Muggle fiction books and being so fascinated by them... imagine them reading the Twilight series and having debates on whether #TeamEdward or #TeamJacob is better.
  
  
• Saw this somewhere online and just thought it was hilarious: a yardstick is magically stuck on the top of Gryffindor tower for the sole purpose of their tower being a foot taller than the Ravenclaw tower.

this gryffindor one made me HOWL and also reminded me of a memory I forgot I had that has inspired me to want to headcanon it in the HP wizarding world.

Just so that people can go around and tell their friends that the word gullible is on the ceiling so that they can do the "I'm not falling for that!" "no, I'm serious" "okay, i'm still not falling for it" "no REALLY it is!!" debate for years to come. free entertainment for the seventh years.

This is genius!

A couple more headcanons, courtesy of the internet, that I'm totally buying into:

• The mascots for the four Houses are the Patronuses of each Founder.
  
  
• The most popular blanket in the Hufflepuff common room is a giant knitted one, which is rumoured to have once belonged to Helga Hufflepuff and was a gift from her grandmother. Originally five grown teenagers could lie under it at once. Over the years, though, students have been adding new squares to the blanket to make it bigger so more people can participate in frequent group cuddle sessions.
  
  
• Once, after an extremely successful Quidditch match, the Gryffindors threw an impromptu parade that was extremely successful as it involved Fred and George's foreword dragons, many bewitched painting dancing along, the founding of the Hogwarts Marching Band, and Mrs. Norris as a disco ball. After that, there was no stoping them. Parades for new Honeydukes sweet releases, "Hufflepuff-Gryffindor friendship" parades, and weekly "Founding of the Hogwarts Marching Band" parades occurred. It got so ridiculous McGonagall had to cut them off at the "Creevey finally for a passing grade on his Potions paper!" parade.
  
  
• Much like Pokemon cards in Muggle schools, Chocolate Frog cards were temporally banned in Hogwarts for being the cause of too many fights. The Slytherins, however, weren't going to let a rule change prevent them from completing their collection and becoming the ring leaders of a thriving black market between the school children.
  
  
• Professors probably have the hardest time reading Ravenclaw handwriting because: A) they're excited and need to write down as much as they can before their train of thought leaves the station or B) they're rushing to get their homework done so they can focus their attention on projects, research, etc. that are tailored to their personal interests and passions.
