| | The Wooden Bridge Banner credit: Suziella The Wooden Bridge, also known as the Covered Bridge connects the Courtyard to the rest of the Grounds. This rickety bridge has been damaged and repaired many times over and although it looks like it may fall apart and let the students tumble down into the ravine below it probably won’t. That would be highly unlikely... Still, any unusually loud creaking should be reported to the Groundskeeper. Just in case.
The long and narrow bridge has held its own for many, many years and deserves your respect. On your way between the Grounds and the Castle; why don't you stop and admire the view for a moment.

Sigh.
A few days in and Luci felt drained. That'd be the result of forever sleeping during the summer and not actually doing something like exercise or more than just skate around the roller derby park.
After a walk around the courtyard, she headed towards the bridge and stopped at the middle, carefully sat down and taking out a book she got from her grandparents. She flipped through the pages, looked at the index, cover page, author introduction. Maybe she could finish the book before the first Hogsmeade trip.

As was tradition, he looked around for anything new that would interest people so he knew which places to later avoid when he didn't want to deal with people.
Which happened fairly often according to some of his acquaintances.
He had his hands in his pockets as he casually swaggered walked down the wooden bridge. He spotted Luci flipping through a book. He nudged her foot with his. "This is a weird place to sit." he commented.
... before taking a seat himself.

I just...maybe wanted some thrill, the wind on my back, wood cracking sounds..." Now it sounded like a horror movie.
She smiled and looked at him. "How have you been? All your classes alright?"

She smiled and looked at him. "How have you been? All your classes alright?" Slate couldn't help but chuckle lightly. "Not exactly sure a bridge qualifies as thrilling." He paused then added "Wood cracking sounds like..." he glanced at the wood next to where he was sitting like he half expected it to break off from under him.
Hopefully that didn't turn into an irrational fear. "So far, so good. Glad to be back." he said returning the smile. "How about you? How's your summer been?"

She shrugged, "Same old, same old. Getting used to the routine again. And glad as well." It was odd how honest that was in that moment. "It was alright. Have a baby sister now..." She proudly said it.

One of the best things about being back at the Castle (probably second only to seeing the dorm mates every day) was being able to see her Aethonan again. Felicity had missed Floyd terribly over the summer, and was still a little annoyed that there had been nowhere near the new family home that would have housed her over the summer. It was also really annoying to think that she wouldn't be able to take Floyd home until she graduated, and thus had been spending as much time as she could looking after her.
Making her way back to the courtyard across the bridge, Felicity tugged her beanie hat lower on her head. Yeah, it was only fall, but the Scottish chill was already starting to nip at her ears.

Thomas was totally not enjoying his first few days at the school, seriously couldn't they get some decorators in to improve the castle. He could paint this bridge if the school staff would let him but he had a feeling that they wouldn't let him.
"Hey!" Thomas suddenly saw a girl, who looked a few years older than him. "Do you think I'd get in trouble if I painted this bridge red?" Thomas thought that red was an amazing colour. "I just think it could do with a new coat of paint."

You what?
Felicity blinked down at the younger kid, her brow furring in confusion. "Uh.. Yeah?" She said, with an air of 'duh, obviously'. "I mean, there are better ways to show House pride, you know?" Because as great as it was that this boy was clearly loving Gryffindor, he could seriously just buy a scarf. It would probably save him a few detentions, not to mention a lot of time and effort.

Thomas thought that would be a great idea. "I don't mind, I just think it could do with a little paint job." Thomas then suddenly had an even better idea. "How about Green and Red."

And while green is a superior color, and I totally don't blame you for wanting to like... do it, I'm not getting involved."
Detention wasn't on her agenda for fifth year, no siree. She could only imagine Skylar's disappointment, a thought which almost made her giggle. But she didn't, because she was too busy judging this little kid.
JUDGING.

She proudly said it. Slate just nodded. He wouldn't be comforted at all by the sound of the ground potentially falling out from under him. Or the sound horror movies made when someone was nearby.
He looked around just to double check that they were safe.
They were, for the record, as far as he could tell. "I prefer the routine, honestly." Or maybe he just preferred having somewhere to be. Either way, being back was nice. He watched her reaction before commenting. He knew that some people didn't like baby siblings. But she seemed to be excited about it. "What's her name?"

JUDGING. "Duh!" Thomas glared at the girl. "I knew that, but I forgot what I was going to ask." Thomas was not impressed with this older student. Seriously weren't they supposed to be nice to the first years and help them at all times? "So here's a question, what year you in?" Thomas was still thinking the bridge needed painting.

The glare from the younger kid was met with an eye roll, and she was sure that by the end of their conversation her bushy eyebrows would be lost in her hat somewhere. "Right. You might need to work on your memory skills, then." Because he wasn't really going to get far in life with anything if he couldn't keep his memory straight for three seconds.
Was she taking her annoyance out on him? A little. "Fifth."

Holly sighed as she made her way through the courtyard to the wooden bridge connecting it to the rest of the grounds. This was a part of the castle she was yet to enjoy. She had been through it on many occasion, of course. But never had she actually stopped to enjoy the view from it. With her hands stuffed in her pockets, she walked through to the centre, the quiet creaking beneath her feet making her only a little uneasy. It seemed that the slower you walked, the more it creaked. To her, that seemed odd. But not enough to dwell on the matter.
Reaching her desired location, she leant against the sides of the bridge. Her eyes fell upon the ravine beneath. It was lucky she wasn't particularly afraid of heights. Although standing here now, she was beginning to wonder if she might be after all. Leaning back slightly, she raised her face to the cool breeze, breathing in as much fresh air as her lungs would allow. Today was going to be a good day, she could feel it.

Leaning back slightly, she raised her face to the cool breeze, breathing in as much fresh air as her lungs would allow. Today was going to be a good day, she could feel it. Patrick had been walking around the courtyard before he began to walk along the wooden bridge. His parents had told him stories of when they were there. Sometimes they would set off fireworks, or do other things when they were out on the bridge. His parents had always made it seem like a fun place to hangout since they had such fond memories of it. When he was feeling the slightest bit like he missed them he would come out to the bridge to feel closer to them.
As he meandered down the bridge he looked up to see a girl, he recognized her from the common room when they had to sleep here because there dorms had been ransacked. He walked up to her slowly trying not to scare her. "Uh hi, I don't think we've met yet?" His southern accent was sliding in as his nerves got the best of him. His nerves were showing their head because he hadn't stood up for her when Flynn was making fun of her, but she had also looked like she had it handled. "I'm Patrick, I think we saw each other in the common room the other day."

"I'm Patrick, I think we saw each other in the common room the other day." The first year lowered her head so that her eyes were focused on the rocks beyond. In the distance she could see rolling hills and perfect green grass. Birds sang above as they flew through the ravine, possibly on the hunt for food. The air was crisp but it soothed her. She missed home, of course she did, but Hogwarts had been quite an experience for her. She wouldn't forget this in a hurry. She wanted to tell her friends back home all about the things she'd seen. Of course, there were certain things she would have to leave out. But so long as she was careful, she could share the wonderful views and magical grounds with them, right?
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of quiet footsteps approaching her. As they neared and a voice sounded, she turned her head to look at the person speaking. Ah, she recognized this boy. She'd laid eyes on him in the common room, when she was poorly attempting to defend herself. She smiled kindly at the boy. "No, we haven't. And hello to you too" she replied. She remembered wishing she'd had the nerve to speak to him in the common room, or on the several other occasions she was sure they had passed each other within the castle. This was a large building, of course, but they were in the same house. She was sure she'd seen him around the grounds before the sleepover.
Holly nodded as he spoke again. "We did, yes. That was quite an.... interesting evening to say the least". She held out her hand for him to shake. "I'm Holly, pleasure to make your acquaintance"

It was amazing to him how secluded a place like this could feel, even though he knew that it was likely at the hand of magic but he still enjoyed it. "What brought you out to the bridge?" He folded his arms as he leaned on the edge of the bridge.
As he was standing there taking everything in he got to thinking about how they were already nearing the end of their first year. As he ran his hand through his hair, he looked back over at Holly, "How have you liked your first year?"

As he was standing there taking everything in he got to thinking about how they were already nearing the end of their first year. As he ran his hand through his hair, he looked back over at Holly, "How have you liked your first year?" Holly brightened her smile just a little. She wanted to make a good impression on him, she did have a severe lack of friends after all. Her only friend really being her bear. It bothered her but there was always next year. She turned her head back to the glorious view just as Patrick began to speak again. Now there was a good question. What [I]had[I] drawn her here? Turning her body so that her back was against the side of the bridge, she looked out at the other side. "I think sometimes it's just nice to get away and see something different" she replied. But that wasn't really what intrigued her. If she was honest, she wasn't really sure what had. "There's just something about this place, it brings you in. I guess that's at least part of the reason I came here"
She tilted her head back, her eyes closing, and the crisp air surrounding the two of them. It was quiet, so much so that she could stay here forever, in the calm serenity this place had to offer. Although she was all too aware that that simply was not possible. The year was almost out, and she would have to venture back to her home. Sadness washed over her at the thought. The sound of Patrick's voice broke her out of her thoughts and back to her current reality. "Honestly, it's so different here to what I imagined it would be. It's been really interesting for me" she answered. She turned her body once more, her arm now leaning on the side and the rest of her facing Patrick. "How about you?"

It's been really interesting for me" she answered. She turned her body once more, her arm now leaning on the side and the rest of her facing Patrick. "How about you?" He laughed a bit as he turned around to sit and lean on the sides of the bridge. "The bridge does just call to people. I come out here from time to time when I need a moment. My parents used to spend a lot of time out here when they were students." He could just see his dad joking around with his mother like they did at home when they would cook dinner. It made him smile to think of how much of a muggle life he led even though both of his parents were wizards.
He nodded his head at her mention of it being different than what she thought. He had prepared himself to go to the school his brothers had gone to. They told him all of the ins and outs of school, and how to join the quodpot team. Here, his parents were the only ones who could help him with tips. But his parents were so far out of their time at Hogwarts that they really weren't that helpful. "Oh its been interesting. My brothers went to Ilvermorny, so I was kind of prepared to go there and not here. So turns out this place is a bit different than what i was expecting." He shrugged his shoulders as he thought about how different his experience would be if his brothers had gone here.
