Right next to Healer Reed's waiting area is his Herbal Garden & Lounge Area. This part of the Hospital Wing had been kept secret from the rest of the student body until recently. Inside the indoor garden lining the walls and ceiling are Healer Reed's vast collection of medicinal herbs, (all of which were labelled by their scientific name, mind you) acquired from his travels over the years, as well as gifts from fellow Healers and former colleagues across the pond.
As a huge fan of tea, he dedicated a section of the garden solely for tea leaves, and at the centre of the garden are modestly sized tables and chairs for studying, reading, or a place where you and your friends can hang out and take a breather from the hectic Hogwarts life.
So if you don't feel like walking all the way to the grounds to get fresh air, this patch of green within Hogwarts will do the job. Come on down (or up) with a good book, your homework, your favourite snack, or your friend(s). Try to keep your voices down, however, given that the main ward with recuperating patients is nearby.
OOC: Welcome to River's Herbal Garden! Feel free to RP your student/staff characters here. And while you're at it, please observe ALL SITE RULES while RPing. Thank you!
"We do, actually.." The brunette glanced at Healer Reed and smiled a little because yes, that was very clever of him to use his space like that for potions. "The herbal garden. When I went to speak to Healer Reed, I saw it. It's just by the waiting area outside his office. Come on." She spoke quietly, tugging at his sleeve as she lead them out of the room.
Oooh. They were being sneaky. Cameron liked that.
Leaning a little closer to her to catch what Junia was saying, he nodded, a small smirk on his lips. "Let's go." SNEAKILY. So the others wouldn't SEE them and follow. They'd get there first. Heh. This was fun.
Making sure they weren't being followed by glancing behind them a few times, Cameron quickly made his way up to the third floor. "Is this it?" Why was he still whispering? He didn't know but it felt like the right thing to do here. He nodded towards the door in front of them.
SPOILER!!: Ingredients
- 5 pieces of Betony Leaves
- 32 grams of Stargrass
- 5 pieces of Fireseeds

Junia was amused, though she'd pretended lots with her younger siblings and right now she was imagining they were on some secret mission and had to be stealth so they wouldn't be caught by the "bad guys" because there always seemed to be bad guys in games like that. It made the whole harvesting ingredients thing that much less boring and she'd take that.
"This is it, come on." She headed in, looking around the space thoughtfully. "I think it's best if we split up. We'll find the plants faster that way, don't you think?" She didn't bother with whispering now as they'd succeeded in being the first ones there. "How about you find the Stargrass, I'll find the Betony leaves. We'll alert the each other once we have."
She didn't bother waiting for his approval since it was a great plan, instead patting his shoulder and walking off with a look of determination on her face. They had this.

"Ooh. I wonder if there might be some in the garden at the hospital wing" Because that sounded like a great idea. "Lets head there!" And then she was pulling him out of the door
"Oh, that's a good idea." Olly had been to the indoor garden by the hospital wing before. He came there to draw sometimes. And of course he had a particularly vivid memory of coming across Professor Myers and lying for him. Good times. This time was different, though. This time they were looking for very specific potions ingredients. Olly didn't remember what exactly he had seen there but it seemed likely that Healer Reed would keep the potions ingredients in his own garden.
He and Hattie had hurried there, but it seemed they had been beaten by another group. But this wasn't a competition, at least not in his mind. So he gave them a smile. "Hey Junia. Hey Cameron. Had any luck finding the ingredients?" He started searching too. What was it they were looking for again? Betony leaves and, um....right, stargrass. Oh, there was the stargrass. Olly headed directly over and looked back at Hattie. "I found the stargrass. See any betony leaves?"

"--Good thing Healer Reed says within the castle because my first thought was to cruise on out for the Greenhouses." the Curly Top chuckled as he entered the mini garden next to the Hospital Wing. Already he felt the positive effects of all the greenery. But as his gaze fell on the labels he realized something "They're listed in their technical names." and here he thought it would be as easy as picking them greens off like they were in a supermarket aisle. "Well, time to crack open the books then" he said as he lay down their tray took the Potions book in his hands. Stargrass..... "Heteranthera zosterifolia...." Looking at those labels for anything that starts with an H.....

It did feel like they were on some sort of secret mission somehow.
Slipping into the room after her, Cameron looked around with interest. He'd never been in here before. But now was not the time to be distracted. No, they were on a MISSION here. He nodded enthusiastically at her plan even though she probably didn't even see it because there she went.
Okay then. This side of the garden was his terrain. Now, where was that stargrass? It shouldn't be that hard to find right? Yeah, one might think. Nonetheless, it still took Cameron a while to spot it but once he had he crouched down next to it. 32 grams. Okay, should he have brought his scales? He should have brought his scales. Definitely. "Junia?" Had they been joined by others? He could hear voices. "I'm over here." Currently failing at even remotely being able to estimate how much 32 grams of grass was.

Aymeric was making his way down from the library from the fourth floor. Honestly, he didn't want to return to the lesson and if could he would throw these wretched fireseeds and get ready for his next lesson... or paint. It would be nice to paint now.
Whilst making his way down he noticed a few students (he didn't know their names') from Potions class heading towards the Hospital Wing. Ahhh... that was the indoor garden. The Ravenclaw considered for a moment. Reluctantly he followed - he already finished half of the assignment then why not finish the rest. In addition leaving the lesson in the midst of it wasn't an option.
His eyes were slightly red. He didn't really cry from his previous experience but he felt the tears. But the more he thought about it the more he realised that there is no need to make such a huge fuss from what had happened. It wasn't even his fault. It was no ones fault. "Relax," was the word that came to his head.
He entered the garden with his red-ish eyes. He was wearing his gloves, holding the heated bucket and wand in one hand. It might not be such a good idea wondering in the garden with a bucket of fireseeds, but 'oh well'. His protective eye-gear hanged from his neck, he wasn't planning on using it in the near future.
He looked around and a few students (whom he barely knew by name) were in the room. He easily eyed the stargrass in the room. He was familiar with it from his mother's store. But those leaves... Merlin... he never heard of them. Aymeric sighed, he really wanted to be done with lesson.
Attempting to return to his usual indifferent state, raising his voice by just a little, "does anyone know, wha' leaves we're lo-looking for?" Unfortunately, it was quite obvious that he was upset. Sigh. Let this be over quickly.

Betony leaves...betony leaves...betony-oh.
Junia knelt down, tilting her head as she noted the way the leaves curved. It made her smile a little because truth be told, this is exactly how she used to draw leaves when she was younger. Long and curvy and cartoon-looking. This was also exactly the plant she'd been looking for.
Looking in her bag for the tiny pair of gardening scissors, the brunette noticed Olly arrive along with some others. "They're in here somewhere," She announced mysteriously. She wasn't going to tell him exactly where, since surely that was going to take away from his learning. As for the sad looking smaller boy, well, Junia glanced at him and then carefully cut enough Betony leaves for herself and her partner before tucking them away and moving towards him.
"Stargrass and Betony." She casually pointed to the latter of the two and gave him a hint of a smile. "You'll be needing five of those leaves." The Betony ones. He could find the stargrass after, enough people were gathered around it by now.
Cameron's voice caused her to move away from the Ravenclaw and over to the Stargrass, coming to a stop beside him. "I got our Betony leaves. What's up?"

As he rounded the corner and slightly past the Hospital Wing waiting area, Ronan could tell he wasn't the only one who'd understood the indoor garden hint, darn it. But, it wasn't a large enough crowd yet for the garden to have been completely worked over, thank goodness. But, which section would the betony be in? The wall/ceiling or floor?
Ronan chose to start with the floor. Of course, not being a herbologist, he had to look up the names of each plant. "Hmm, Camellia sinensis, nope not it......"
_____
Ten minutes later and he wasn't getting anywhere. "Maybe it's on the wall.....?" Had to be, since this section was mostly just various types of tea leaves. Brits and their tea. Though, technically, he himself was a Brit. But being raised by an American in France, which meant that he didn't really follow the afternoon tea tradition and the only tea he'd ever drank was iced.
Anyway, he got up from where he'd crouched in the floor and moved to the wall. Searching for the ingredients...

There was a mini garden near the Hospital Wing? Merlin. Olivia was WAY behind on her exploring this term. She needed to get out more and experience different parts of the castle. "Technical names?" she repeated and moved very close to him (yes, she was invading his personal space here) so that she could glance at the textbook too. Then Ace spoke a completely different language?
Vi blinked. "Come again?" Say whaaaaat? She didn't follow... at all. Blue eyes blinked once more. She glanced away, looking at the plants around them, not knowing which one was Heteranthera Zor-something something. Vi began walking past the plants, peering at the little signs next to them. "Is there a photo in the textbook?" she asked, returning to Ace's side once more.

Daisy's instincts had been proven right much to her relief judging by how many of her fellow students were there seemingly searching away. Having to negotiate the entirety of the inside of Hogwarts would have been torture. She began to search for the leaves and grass. It took her a few minutes of searching until...
Daisy had located a clump of Stargrass and so she retrieved her clippers, scales and a small, clean container with a lid out of her bag. She placed the scales and container next to her and used the clippers to carefully cut some of the Stargrass. After measuring the grass, Daisy placed it inside the container. Cleaning her clippers and scales, Daisy placed the items back in her bag as she got up to begin searching for the Betony leaves.
The search for the leaves was a bit more challenging. It seems that the crowd was getting to her a bit. Daisy took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a few fleeting seconds. Opening her eyes, the young witch began her search. Daisy was running through her mind the distinguishing features of the Betony leaves such as colour, texture etc.
It took her longer than she had wanted but Daisy finally located the inconspicuous plant. She recognised the plant by the rough, hairy oblong leaves. Daisy retrieved another lidded container and her clean clippers from her bag. After carefully trimming five leaves and placing them in the container, Daisy cleaned her clippers and placed the items back in her bag.
The second-year witch was struggling to think of a location for the fire seeds. Kitchen? Hot Springs? Maybe the...? Daisy grinned as a perfect location came into her mind. She was on her way.

The entire walk here, Beau had been talking and talking and asking more than fifty questions per minute. He had a lot to know and a lot to learn and each of his questions came in time with his skipping and jumping and quite literal bouncing off the walls. Could they just get what they needed to from here? All of it? Like literally all of it? How were they going to get it? Was Remy good at this? Did he remember how much they needed of everything?

There, see this wouldn’t be so hard. ”Not everything, I’m still learning - but I’m getting there.” Mostly, sort of. But yes. AHEM. ”Im a seventh year, Hufflepuff.” He told the younger kid even as he leant forward to roll up Beau’s sleeves with easy, methodical motions until he could easily see the younger boys hands and he no longer looked like a fire hazard. ”There we go. That’s better.”
Chuckling as Beau overtook him, Remy strode through the corridors towards the Hospital Wing, taking the quickest route and occasionally rerouting Beau’s hyperness along a different corridor. He answered some of the questions thrown at him, but they were asked in such quick succession that he didn’t always have time to - and since Beau didn’t re-ask them, he figured he had gotten off with missing a few out.
Pushing open the door to the Garden, Remy grinned at the smell of herbs that instantly assaulted his senses. Yes. He was pretty sure that at least one of the ingredients would belong amongst the pots that Healer Reed kept. ”Okay, He said, leading Beau towards the wall of pots and the main plants in the beds. ”We are looking for Betony leaves and Stargrass. I would assume they would both still be in their natural state..."
He paused and looked at the first year. ”Actually...Do you know what we are looking for?” He couldn't remember what year he had first used them in potions, but he was sure they hadn't been used way back then. He rummaged around in his (thankfully, magical lightened) bag when Beau looked like he was going to give him a no, and pulled out a book he had been reading on potions ingredients. Flipping to the index, he found betony leaves and flipped to their page to show Beau, before repeating the process for Stargrass. There…. Now hopefully they could each find one of the ingredients each and move on to find the fire seeds. Maybe. There were still so many fires in the Castle.

She laughed, knowing that people weren't going to tell them. She would have though. It wasn't like it was a race or anything. She looked around, trying to find some of the ingredients. "Ooh. I've found them!" She nodded, reaching down to the cut the 5 leaves that she needed. she got up once she had finished. She wandered back over to Olly. "Okay.... now somewhere with a fire?"

BETONY LEAVES AND WHO?!
Beau very obviously looked as confused as confused could be, because Remy showed him the exact things he needed in the textbook. OH. RIGHT. "Wobbly leaf and green starfishes! YEAH LETS LOOK." Although he still had no idea on how he was supposed to get these things or how many he needed, but he would leave that to Remy. "LET'S SPLIT UUUUUUUP." Because that was how the BEST adventures happened. Splitting up and doing cool stuff. Beau didn't even give Remy chance to agree or disagree because he leaped into action looking around.
"THEY'RE LABELLED!!!!!!!!!!!!" Not that that helped, because he couldn't remember the names of what he was on the hunt for. Just the new names he had given then. Wobbly leaf and green starfish.
HUNT. HUNT. HUNT.
HE LOOKED AND HE LOOKED....until he got distracted thinking about where else they were going to have to go, and scratched his bum a little. Hadn't someone mentioned fire? There was a fire in his common room. Was there one in EVERY common room? It wouldn't be FAIR if it was only one common room..........right??????

Before Remy could tell Beau that it was more specific than looking for “wobbly leaves and green starfishes” he had gone. He hadn’t told him how many they needed, or how to store them or to be careful. He frowned ever so slightly, watching the younger boy moving through the room before he sighed and guessed he would go the other way.
Shaking his head, he turned around and went looking for both the betony leaves and the stargrass plant. Hmmmm. Now,he’d been in here before… but could he remember seeing either before? He thought he had, so he moved in the opposite direction of the sunlight and hoped that he was right in saying that it was one of the plants that could grow in shade. Please be here. Please be right. He thought as he searched around the various areas of plants that Healer Reed kept up.
AHA! Grinning when he found it, he went to move to harvest --- But wait. His name was being shouted. Looking across the room, he found Beau and grinned at him. ”Well done! I’ve found the Betony. I’ll be over in a minute.”
Remy crouched down in front of the plant and decided that he would take some leaves from the bottom of the tree since it grew so well in shade. Now, how to harvest them. Betony was all about the shade, so he would need a dark container - which was fine, since he had glass ones and metal ones… and the metal one would keep the leaves fresh and out of sunlight. Rummaging in his bag, he pulled out one of them and then opened the lid before taking out a pair of clippers. If he remembered his Herbology properly, you were meant to take as much of the stem as possible soo… He held the clippers to the closest point where the leaf met the branch and snipped. And then repeated the same process five times so that he had their required 5 leaves. He instantly put the metallic lid back on to close it tight, and wrote ‘Betony’ on the lid label.
Now. Beau and the Stargrass.
He took the area in a few easy strides and grinned at Beau who was standing next to marshy type soil. Lovely. ”Amazing. Right, we were asked for 32 grams… sooo…” He knelt on the ground at Beau’s feet, and took his scales out of his bag before placing a large, clear container on the pad before setting the scales up. ”Now, Stargrass is really fragile, so lets so if we can do this quickly so it doesn’t break up.” Aiming his wand at his shears, he scourgified them so that he wouldn’t contaminate the plant, then cut off the end of one of the plants. Putting it in the dish, he watched the scale change to 11g.
Huh. Okay. He had to repeat the process five times before he got to 34g, which made him wince. Too much. That meant he wasted some of the plant. Cutting back a little, he managed to get it to 32g. Looking around at some of the few classmates who had also found the garden and the stargrass, he held the extra 2g out on his hand. ”Anyone need 2g more? I’ve cut off too much.” He really would rather not waste it…. But he also didn’t have time to waste - they still had to find the fireseeds… so if no-one took it in the next five seconds, he would leave them and move on.
Aiming his wand at the container, he charmed some water in the base of the tub unsure if it needed to still be wet and natural when they used it in the potion. Looking over at Beau, he grinned. ”Okay, two down.We need somewhere with fire for the fre seeds… but there are lots of them in the castle… so where do you think we should look first?
Junia knelt down, tilting her head as she noted the way the leaves curved. It made her smile a little because truth be told, this is exactly how she used to draw leaves when she was younger. Long and curvy and cartoon-looking. This was also exactly the plant she'd been looking for.

Cameron's voice caused her to move away from the Ravenclaw and over to the Stargrass, coming to a stop beside him. "I got our Betony leaves. What's up?"
Was that Junia's voice? Talking to some of the other students?
Cameron stayed where he was, waiting for his friend to come join him. Why had he not brought his scales? He had even LOOKED at what they had to bring. He should've noted the fact that it said grams! Ugh. This was going to bug him. He was usually so prepared for everything. Eh.
Ah there she was. "Did you bring scales?" He nodded down to the plant in front of him, still crouching. "Or can you estimate how much 32 grams are?" Pause. "Or 64 grams. Do we need to bring the ingredients for both of us?" Or would they be making the potion together too?

Cameron stayed where he was, waiting for his friend to come join him. Why had he not brought his scales? He had even LOOKED at what they had to bring. He should've noted the fact that it said grams! Ugh. This was going to bug him. He was usually so prepared for everything. Eh.
Ah there she was. "Did you bring scales?" He nodded down to the plant in front of him, still crouching. "Or can you estimate how much 32 grams are?" Pause. "Or 64 grams. Do we need to bring the ingredients for both of us?" Or would they be making the potion together too?
"I've got 'em." She had come prepared, more so than was probably necessary, but she wanted to be safe rather than sorry. Handing her scales to the younger snake, she considered. "I got enough Betony for the both of us, so let's do the same with the Stargrass." She nodded seriously and then offered Cameron a smile. He could do the gathering this time. He was welcome.
"Where do you think the fire seeds would be? There are fireplaces all over the castle, though I don't think they'd be in a common room one, since those are exclusively for each individual house. That leaves the open ones." Like the kitchen and library. Maybe a professor's office?

Then Ace spoke a completely different language?
Vi blinked. "Come again?" Say whaaaaat? She didn't follow... at all. Blue eyes blinked once more. She glanced away, looking at the plants around them, not knowing which one was Heteranthera Zor-something something. Vi began walking past the plants, peering at the little signs next to them. "Is there a photo in the textbook?" she asked, returning to Ace's side once more.
"Yeah Muggle scientific names, like for Stargrass its Heteranthera zosterifolia...." Pictures? "Oh yeah here...." the Curly Top shifted his book to the Gravity Tester turned Space Invader of which he definitely has NO complaints. "The thing is sometimes images from the book dont look quite the same as the actual plant, so I usually just go by the labels..... hopefully Healer Reed keeps a very accurate cataloging around here...." which he was fairly confident the man did.
It was now a case of reading labels-- labels that read like a kneazle was let loose on a keyboard-- so for Ace he was just walking around and finding a set of letters that were strung together similar to what was listed on the book. "Can you imagine trying to remember all these names instead of common names like Rose or Corn...." he snickered. Then again if he was gonna take Potions for a degree, as he mused about at times, this is whats waiting for him. Whoopeedoo. Maybe he should join up with that Latin Club.
And then he found something-- a string of letters starting with an H arranged and reads as Heteranthera zosterifolia. "There it is!" he beamed. It was almost like winning a lottery finally being able to stop reading labels that sounded gibberish. He handed Vi the textbook for visual confirmation of the image, meanwhile he busied himself setting up their weight scale and their collection bowls. "These bowls weigh 70g in and of itself, so if we need to have 32g worth of Stargrass, we should keep piling on the leaves until our scale reads.... 102g. Right?"

See, it might now show often, but Matt did use his brains. As soon as they stepped out of the dungeons, first he pulled out another Cauldron Cake and started eating it, offering another one to his new friend he instinctively made his way up to the third floor, to the Hospital Wing area.
One of the perks of having the healer as a Potions master was that it was obvious the man would link the two more often than not. And hah, wasn't he right?
Matt chuckled when he saw the Herbal Garden and shot a grin towards the younger kid. "Bingo." Not only there were leaves all over the place in there, but other students were already there, meaning they were in the right place.
The sixth year approached the garden and crouched down near some leaves. One of the best things about not being the first there was that you could just get the plants the others were getting. No need to try and identify them and yadda yadda. No time to waste, Matt liked that very much. "Alright, do you want to grab some stargrass while I get the betony leaves?" It was more of a polite question than anything, as Matt was already getting some betony leaves without waiting for the Slytherin boy's answer.
After plucking about 7 leaves, Matt paused and looked at his partner. "Do you remember how much we need?"

Reason: Our partner is a Slythie, not a Ravie, duh!
Kyle had happily munched on a cauldron cake on the way there, and once they entered the room, had spotted the stargrass. He made his way over as Matthew collected the betony leaves and started collecting the stargrass. Hearing him as a question, he looked up. "Oh, five betony leaves for each of us." Kyle bought a small scale out of his bag and measured how much stargrass he had gotten so far, then picked a little more and measured again.

Olly was glad that Hattie had found the leaves, while he was making a beeline for the stargrass. He carefully cut the grass to get the proper amount - 64 grams so there was enough for both of them - and then headed bac over to her. "Got it."
So they just needed the fireseeds. Where was there fire. "There's a fireplace in the kitchen? The common rooms...but it probably won't be there since we can only get into our own. There's one in the library too. Where should we try first?"

See, it was always useful to have a partner that paid attention to details. "Five each it is!" Matt exclaimed in a sing-song voice as he collected 3 more betony leaves.
And look at him with his scales and everything! That was great, because it meant Matt didn't have to do it himself. Actually, there had been a readon why he went for the betony leaves instead of the stargrass, heh. He had,
however, tried to make sure the 10 leaves he had gotten were about the same size. See, Matt could care too.
He put the leaves in his bag and got up again. "Right, next we need... fireseeds. I can only think of the greenhouses for that, but I'm not sure we're allowed there." At least not in the one where they kept fireseeds? Or were they? Matt had no clue, as he hadn't ventured into the greenhouses in a while and, truth be told, Herbology was never one of his favourite subjects anyway. "Is it even fireseed season?" Was that such a thing?

"I don't know..." Kyle thought about it. "He said we wouldn't have to leave the castle, so not the greenhouses. And I heard someone in the classroom say something about the library." He paused as he thought further. "If all that's left is the fireseeds, that means some place with fire. Is there a fireplace in the library? Well, I guess we'll find out." He put the stargrass away and headed out with Matthew for the library.

Finding the fireseeds was easy. She'd even been able to give advice to four younger students before getting the seeds herself. The rest of the ingredients were proving to be more difficult. First she went to the garden at the top of the astronomy tower (a looong ways up) only to find that her plants weren't there. So then she'd trekked all the way back down to the third floor, to where her next and final guess was. If they weren't here she wasn't sure where she'd look.
As she approached the garden, a younger student walked by with the ingredients. Oh, cool. This was the right place. Energized, the head girl made her way into the garden and went towards a cluster of students gathered around some plants.
"Hey guys, how's it going?" she asked cheerfully as she began to delicately pick Betony leaves. She counted out five, then moved to another cluster of students gathered around the plant resembling coral plant life: Stargrass. Once she'd harvested enough, she stood up and surveyed the students around to see if anyone needed help.
"If anyone doesn't have fireseeds, you can find them in the library," she called out as she'd noticed several students who looked like they'd come here first.
