Staff Room

In the corridor branching off the Entrance Hall, you notice two stone gargoyles guarding a door. You will soon learn that these statutes love to gossip. For those that have been attending Hogwarts for a while, it is common knowledge that this room is for the staff members of the school. The grand mahogany door that separates the corridor and the room is typically locked, so it is best that you not to even attempt entering unless you want detention.

Beyond the door is a long, large circular table, big enough to fit each person employed at Hogwarts, stands front and centre. This is where all the professors and support staff sit and discuss important school matters, ranging from discussions on the curriculum to problem students. A large wardrobe, once home to a boggart, is placed next to a small table on one side of the room and is full of various coats and robes long forgotten by their previous owners. The table holds two boxes: one containing spare parchment and quills and the other confiscated student items.

The opposite end of the staff room is arguably the more popular spot in the room. Placed strategically by a large fireplace, comfy leather sofas and chairs provide an excellent place for the adults to socialize with each other or take a much-needed nap.

Gaston had been finalizing a few-last minute things before the term got underway and could use a break. If he didn't get out of his office for a while, he felt he was going to go mad! After wandering the halls aimlessly for a while, he decided to pop into the staff room. He peered inside to find the room completely deserted and made a beeline for one of the sofas. He sat, just taking in the peace and quiet for a few moments. Then he realized it was a little too quiet. His eyes flicked toward the door. Maybe someone would join him soon...

After spending a while getting a few necessary things out of the way, Rosalyn had decided to reward herself with a cup of coffee. Instead of staying in her office, however, she had decided to make her way over to the staff room. That way she would get a bit of exercise and possibly chat with some of her colleagues. Even one would be more than enough for her, as she was feeling rather social at the moment and just wanted some company.

Opening the door, she smiled to see that her husband was sitting on one of the sofas. "Hey! Did you get everything finalized then?" As she spoke, she set about getting herself a cup of coffee. She really needed it. "Did you want some too?"

Kay had been on the hunt for Laurel. She was somewhat grumpy of having to trek from the first floor all the way to the Divination tower only to find that her friend was not there. Perhaps she should have checked the Staff room first but what was done, was done.

"Laurel, are you here?'' she asked to the room in general. Kay stopped short when she saw Rose and Gaston. "Sorry. Am I interrupting? I'll leave as soon as I find Laurel.'' She was in no mood to stick around for tender looks and mushy words that always seemed to accompany these two.

Now.

Where was that blond?

Gaston was about to doze off on the couch when the door opened. He jumped slightly, immediately awake, but his bright blue eyes lit up when he saw his wife. "Hello, ma belle," he said, smiling sweetly at her. "Not quite, but there's only so long I could stay cooped up in the office."

His smile turned into a laugh when she offered him a cup of coffee. "You read my mind!" he said, getting up to stand beside her. "I was just going to ask you the same thing." He was going to give her a thank-you hug,
but Kaysha came into the room before he had the chance.

He smiled. "Not at all," he said, his face falling slightly. Was it just him or did Kay seem a little... off? Maybe some coffee would cheer her up? And besides, he didn't want her to think she had to leave because of them! "I haven't seen Laurel, but you're welcome to join us. We were just going to have coffee. Would you like some?"

Laurel had brewed a pot of tea and gone through the messy process of making scones in the muggle way before trekking down to find Kay as promised. She had gone down the many stairs to the first floor from her tower only to find that Kay was not in her office. Changing direction the blond seer headed to the staff room next. There was no reason yet to pout.

Entering the staff room Laurel found her friend and the Marchands. "Hi Kay,Gaston and Rose!" she greeted. Turning to Kay she gestured to the goodies in her arms. "I brought the provisions, shall we go chat in your office?"

Why was the staff room so far away from her own office? Really it was so much easier to remain up in her office and make herself some tea or a cup of coffee but she had told herself that this was the term to really get to know everyone. Not that she didn't know them already but it was nice being together with other members of the staff rather than always up in her office with just her cat.

So she made the trek from the sixth floor down to the first. As she drew closer to the room she could hear voices inside. "Hello, everyone," she greeted warmly giving them all a smile. "How is everyone today?" Just a bit of warm up conversation until she got the feel of the room and was sure she hadn't been interrupting anything.

Gaston's comment got a laugh from Rosalyn. "That's exactly the same reason why I came here as well." And no, she wasn't too surprised that he would grow tired of working; she knew him very well by now. "Great minds think alike!" As she spoke, Rosalyn took out cups while the coffee was brewing. Already the staff room was smelling wonderful! Now she just needed the caffeine flowing though her veins.

Hearing a familiar voice, she turned to the door and smiled. It was her best friend. "You never are interrupting, Kay. I would love it if you would stay, but if not we can catch up later? Maybe have tea or coffee?" There was something going on with her friend, and it was really starting to be worrisome. Kay just wasn't her usual cheery self, and seeing as she was one of the most important people in Rosalyn's life, there was a lot of concern going on. "Hey, Laurel! Too bad we can't hang out now, but we can later if you want to." Looked like she and Kay had other things to discuss right now.

And there was Cami! Seemed like this place was hopping. "Hey! I am doing well. How about you? Would you like some coffee? I just put a pot on to brew." There was plenty to go around.

Kay’s mind was halfway made up to leave these two to whatever it was that they were up to. Rose might be one of her best friends but sometimes her and Gaston went too far with the cheesy and corning looks and words. “I’m fine. I just need to find Laurel.’’ She could really use her friend’s company. Aside from that, there was something very important she needed to ask her. “If you two are sure,’’ she replied uncertainly to Rose. “Are you discussing anything in particular? Lessons?’’ Just no lovey dovey stuff.

At that moment was when Laurel turned up. “I’ve been looking for you all over, Laurel. Wasn’t it in your office we were to have tea?’’ Kay had been so distracted that she just might have gotten the venues mixed up. “Hello, Camilla.’’

Tea.. Kalen needed Tea.

And as luck would have it or not have it, he was out of tea in both his office and the library, he knew where he could find some though, so he headed down to the Staff room, intent on a cup and perhaps a nap. The Astronomy tower was nearly ready but moving his office had been rather tiring, the stairs had changed on him twice and the corridors had changed as well.

He hoped the castle was just getting its hijinks out before the kids got here.

As he moved into the Staff room, though he noticed that he wasn't alone, and he probably wasn't going to get that nap he was craving.

"Hello, Gaston, Rose, Laurel, Kay, Cami. " The dark haired man said as he eyed everyone in the room. Was there a meeting he missed?

His nose wrinkled a bit as he smelled the coffee and he nearly gagged a bit.. Coffee? C'mon people where was the tea?

He headed to the table and pulled out some white tea and put it into his cup, he heated some water in a cup and then poured the boiling water over the tea bag..

The door was THRUST open---

And regardless of who was in the staff room, even if it be NO ONE but Paul knew that to not be the case SINCE HE HEARD VOICESS-------




*BANG*




"WE MUST DO A PLAY THIS TERM." Paul was wearing boa around his neck, just for this moment when he could swing it over his shoulder dramatically after his statement about DOING A PLAY. "IT WILL BE A THING. WE MUST."

He had plans to set up an appointment with Regina at the feast. "WHOOOOOO is with me? WHO WANTS TO HELP? I've got a play in miiiiiiind!"

Kalen was just about to take a sip of his very hot tea when all of a sudden the door opened with a bang!

The noise startled the newly minted Professor and he jumped about a foot in the air! Thankfully his quick reflexes helped him not fully spill his tea but still! His poor tea.

He looked down on the droplets on his leather shoe before turning mildly annoyed green eyes towards Paul, only to hold back a chuckle as he fully saw the man. He was wearing a Boa! Kalen had to turn away from the Herbolgy professor for a moment in order to regain his composure.

"A play?" The Librarian was mildly interested. He had helped in a few plays in college. Not acting of course, being in the spotlight wasn't exactly his thing, but he was good at behind the scenes..

"I'll help. " He said simply as he managed to take a sip of his beloved drink.

It seemed like Kay and Laurel were set to go and have a chat and some tea. There was no way that Rosalyn would keep them. "We'll talk later," she told Kay with a smile. "I'll definitely talk to you too, Laurel!" They were all such good friends now and she did enjoy their girl talks; it was always a nice break from the boring routine. "We aren't talking about much right now, just finalizing things for lessons." Nothing too exciting or anything.

"Hey, Kalen." ... And an overly excited Paul. Rosalyn blinked, taken aback by the yelling, but she immediately perked up as soon as she processed what he had said. "That sounds like a great idea, Paul! I think that the students would LOVE it. I would definitely be up to helping with the sets and costumes seeing as I am the art teacher." Of course anyone else was more than welcome to help with that aspect if they wanted to. "What about you, Gaston? Do you think you could help with the music?" There WOULD be music, right? "So what production were you thinking of doing?"

And there was that coffee pot announcing that everything was ready. Happily she began pouring some out into cups. "Anyone else want some?" Or was it just her, Gaston, and possibly Cami?

Gaston couldn't help but laugh along with Rose. "Indeed they do," he said, but the laughter didn't last long. He couldn't help but notice that Kay's was more directed at Rose than him, and she seemed in a hurry to find Laurel and leave. Why? Had he done something to make her not want to be around? He tried not to think too much about it, but it was impossible. Luckily Laurel and Cami arrived before he could become too lost in thought. "Hello, Laurel, Cami," he greeted the ladies with a polite, though slightly forced smile.

He took a step back as the women started talking amongst themselves, suddenly feeling as if he were intruding on a girls-only party. He retreated back to his original place on the sofa, trying to hide just how out of place he felt... though he was probably failing miserably. The overwhelming urge to leave finally became too much, and he started for the door... just as Kalen entered. He smiled, very glad to see the other man. "Hello, Ka-" he began but before he could finish, Paul burst in.

Blink, blink. All Gaston could do was stare at Paul's boa for a moment. So apparently Paul wanted to do a play this term. Okay then... He nodded in agreement at Rose's words. "Yes, a play might be just the thing to bring attention to the arts," he said. Then he nodded again when he was asked if he'd help. "I could write a musical score, if you like. We could get the orchestra involved..."

"What did you have in mind, Paul?" he asked the herbology professor.

Laurel momentarily set the provisions down on a table as she surveyed the room. Rose and Gaston weren't as lovey-dovey with each other as she first thought they were when she entered. Camilla came in just after her asking about everyone's welfares. Smiling warmly at her, Laurel murmured in return. "Hi Cami, I'm pretty good. How are you?" Especially since the dreams had finally stopped. Now she just worried about Kay.

Eyes flickering from Kay to Rose she said "Hi Rose, yes it is, but we can hang out later. I'll come and find you later, all right?" Turning her attention to Kay she furrowed her brows in momentary confusion. "Um no, we said we were going to meet in your office not mine. But It doesn't matter, shall we go to your office now or do you want to stay here?" Kay didn't mix venues up! What was up with her?

Next minute Kalen arrived and before Laurel could do more than say "Hi Kalen." Paul burst into the room with a feathered boa around his neck shouting about the need for them to do a PLAY! Massaging her ears because of the shouting, Laurel's eyes flicked again to Kay before she asked tentatively turning her eyes to the Herbology Professor. "A play Paul? What kind of play are you thinking of? Like a musical?"

I'll help, I'll help, I'll help!!!! The chorus rang through Paul as his peers seemed to like his idea. He cleared his throat before making the BIG announcement. "The play I have in mind....is...." he paused for dramatic affect.

"THE FOUNTAIN OF FAIR FORTUNE!" he clapped three times, short little claps, and beamed. "It will be wonderful. It will be BEAUTIFUL." He made a sputtering face at Kaysha. "A musical? For our first production?! NO!" Not that he had anything against musicals, but he wanted an good ole' fashioned OLLEEEEE school PLAY. A musical could always be done next year. "It will be BRILLIANT, I TELL YOU. I will tell Regina IMMEDIATELY." Gaston for the musical score...Rosalyn for the...art stuff...FABULOUS.

"Well, the arts call---" Paul snapped his fingers, and a pair of sunglasses seemed to come out of nowhere. He put them on, stroked a few of his boa's feathers, and smirked. "You all----discuss amongst yourselves. MY PEOPLE WILL BE IN TOUCH WITH YOUR PEOPLE."

And by that, he meant....he would talk to them soon.

Ahem. This diva persona was great.

Camilla smiled warmly. "I would, thanks." Some coffee sounded just like what she needed right now. She crossed the room to where Rose was standing with Gaston, who got a warm smile from her, as she waited for her coffee.

"Hello, Kalen," she nodded at him in greeting as he joined the gathering group.

What in the name of Merlin?! Cami startled when the door slammed open, luckily she hadn't been holding that cup of coffee yet. Turning around she looked at Paul and couldn't hold back that smile, he always made her laugh. Did he say a play? "That sounds like a wonderful idea! I'm not sure how I might be able to assist with this but should I be needed for anything I'd be more than happy to help out." Perhaps some transfiguration skills of some sort might be needed or something.

Kalen barely got a nod to anyone who had said hello to him, before Paul was barging in and talking of Plays and boas and sunglasses?

Kalen blinked a bit at the Deputy Headmaster a bit, he had only been here a year so he wasn't fully used to the Herbology Professor. Maybe helping out with the play would give him opportunities to get to know people better.

He tilted his head as Gaston said he would help with music and Rose would help with costumes and stuff. So hmm.. what could he do.

"I could help with lighting? And the technical stuff? I helped out with a few plays in my college days. " He said as he rubbed his neck a bit. Behind the scenes was perfect for him.

Paul had people? Who would call his people? Kalen inwardly groaned and rubbed his head, he hadn't had nearly enough tea for this.

Pouring out coffee, Rosalyn nodded to Laurel. "Of course. You can find me in my office and we will have tea." She was really looking forward to having a chat with her because she was one of her closest friends and amazing company.

A cup of coffee was offered to Cami. "It's a shame that you can't help me out with the sets and costumes because that would be a lot of fun." Maybe something could be thought up, but if not that was okay. There were loads of other fun extras that they could add in other terms. "I'm so happy that you are going to help out," she added to Gaston as she gave him his coffee. Her husband had a lot of history with music, and was head of the orchestra, so he would be absolutely PERFECT in that role. "Well, I think we are mostly set!" she added as Kalen chimed in with his input. Paul certainly seemed to think as much too. "That's the perfect story to do a play on! Me and the students could definitely manage to make a beautiful fountain." This was going to be amazing. Rosalyn couldn't wait to hear from him as to how his meeting with Regina went, but she was sure that the Headmistress would agree to things; why wouldn't she? This would be the perfect activity for students and professors alike.

Gaston returned Cami's smile with one of his own, and his smile grew wider as Rose handed him a mug of coffee. "Thank you, my dear," he said, referring both to the coffee and the comment she made. He took a sip but nearly choked as Paul made his dramatic announcement. Hmm... the Fountain of Fair Fortune, eh? Well if they were going to do a story from Tales of Beetle the Bard, he would cast his vote for The Warlock's Hairy Heart. That one had always been his favorite, but the way Paul was talking didn't sound like he was open to other suggestions. Never mind... he supposed it didn't really matter which story they did. The important thing was giving the students a chance to showcase their talent.

He blinked in surprise as Paul made the sputtering noise at Kaysha. Was that really necessary? He liked Paul, but he could act like such a child sometimes! So, no musical then? Now he was confused. Did that mean no musical score either? Then Paul's sunglasses trick happened, and he had to fight the urge to roll his eyes. A quick glance at Kalen, and he guessed the other man was probably thinking the same thing. They didn't get paid enough to put up with this, did they?

So Paul wanted them to discuss amongst themselves. Um... no, he wasn't doing that. In his experience, 'discuss amongst yourselves' was just a euphemism for 'hang back while the others talk and go along with whatever they want', and he already felt out of place enough as it was! "I should probably take this to-go get started on that score soon..." he said, his eyes darting from one face to the next as he picked up his coffee cup and headed toward the door.
