Hadley Denaker marched up on the platform, her expression steel. She was in the zone, 100% ready for this duel. Had been for the last half an hour. It wasn't that she thought Olivia would be a tough opponent. Too be honest, she didn't know how good Olivia was; she'd never seen the girl duel.
No, Hadley was just determined to keep the top spot in her year again. Determined.
She bowed, first to Sir Knight, then to Olivia, and readied her wand. Once she was sure the other girl was ready too, Hadley aimed. "Expelliarmus! Melofors!" Two spells fired in quick succession at her opponent.

IT WAS DUELING DAY.... and in preparation, Olivia Phillips had doubled up on her potions. You know, the ones that were meant to ease the ache in her distressed joints. Nothing would get in the way of victory today. She'd already decided it. And half the battle was ones mentality. Defeat wouldn't be accepted. Therefore, the only possible outcome was a win.
Hopefully.
She'd not thought to check and see who her opponent was, but this was partially a good thing. If it was her cousin again, Liv would rather not have known beforehand. Just because it was more fun for her to have to adapt and alter any strategies on the spot. Thinking on her toes, you know.
Dancing into the arena, the Gryffindor saw that she'd be facing a Ravenclaw she knew from class. Hadley. Sweet. She wasn't exactly familiar with her dueling style, but it was all the same, really. You've seen one, you've seen them all. Anyway, after bowing, they were quick to start, her opponent already casting off in her direction. Olivia was quick to whip her wand around, the first thing jumping was a gripping charm. Soz, Hadley. She obviously needed her wand, but maybe next time, eh?
... And as for the second spell, the blonde sidestepped, quickly maneuvering to cast the Feather-Light charm on herself. It was dueling 101 and she'd trained with Charlotte enough that it was second nature at this point. No need to think about it. She could commend the girl's instant offense, but Hadley should've kept in mind that a Gryffindor would rarely go down so easily. Especially this one.
Here. Have a Stinging Jinx. That's for you.

Hadley knew what the stinging curse felt like already, and wasn't that eager to feel it again, thank you very much. She'd been hit by one her first duel back in first year. And it hurt. A lot. But that wasn't gonna stop her from sending the curse back to Olivia. "Protego!" Return to sender!
She was bit disappointed that neither of her starting spells hit Olivia, but that was alright. They were both third years and already had plenty of dueling practice so that made sense actually. Still it was a bummer.
Hadley followed her rebounding of Olivia's curse with one of her own. "Steleus!" Enjoy sneezing up a storm.

Olivia had been ready, you know. All the extra practicing and general attentiveness in her lessons... definitely lent to a brand new Liv Phillips today. Kinda. Like, she'd always been down to get rough and tumble in her duels, but the level of ability had been upped slightly.
... Which meant absolutely nothing as the spell she'd shot off towards Hadley was being deflected right back in her direction. Unfortunately, as she'd meant to step out of the way.... but brain and limbs seemed to of had a breakdown in communication... causing Liv's own stinking jinx to hit her full on. A quick flash of burning pain seared through her body, and she was forced to the ground, trying to recover from it as quickly as possible. Without thinking, she threw up a shield, which was a good job as Hadley had popped off the Steleus! spell.
"Protego!" ...which was said in a gasping breath.
Breathing through the pain of it, the Gryffindor blonde bounced back up to her feet; a gleam in her eye. Determination, you know? She was so determined to win. To take the top spot this year. Whatever it took, she would see it done. More practice? Selling her soul?... Whatever it took. That wasn't an exaggeration. SHE MEANT BUSINESS, MAN. Eyes on the prize and what have you.
So, in quick succession, Olivia fired off the jelly-fingers curse, as well as a transfiguration spell she'd been working on... which would cause Hadley's ears to be encased in kumquats. It was elementary, but one she was confident in casting.
Fight. Me.
Couldn't you see the concentration painted across her face?!

Considering the duellers taking part, Hirsch fully expected this duel to be a good one, even if it came with the chance of a bit of dramatics. Both of the duellers taking part were good at this and had topped, or come very close to, their year group's duelling championship. So this duel? This duel was one he was excited to see.
Pity that it had to be cut short too soon.
It felt as though the duel was coming to a close almost as soon as it had started! Hirsch frowned at his watch before striking up that magical barrier between the two girls, making Phillips's last two spells ineffective. Sorry. "Well done, ladies, well done," the professor said, stepping out from his refereeing spot and towards the two girls, "You've both done well," Not that he expected anything less. "but Miss Phillips, you've taken the lead today. Congratulations!"
