Not knowing much about your opponent was unhelpful but Junia didn't let it bother her too much. She quite liked dueling, it made her feel strong and fierce. It also taught her a lot about what she was capable of, which was clearly a LOT. She'd even given herself a little pep talk before coming today so she was ready and she wanted to win.
After bowing, she trained her wand and smiled at Hattie. This was going to be fun, didn't she agree? "Colloshoo!" She aimed at the Hufflepuff's shoes and then quickly raised her wand to aim at her face. "Slugulus Eructo!" A little one-two punch to get them started. Hopefully at least one of her spells hit!

Harriet was really excited for her duelling this year. She'd enjoyed it last year, she hadn't been too good at it, but that meant that there was always room for improvement. So she was excited to duel this year. She didn't know too much about Junia. But that was okay. It didn't matter. Maybe it would make it a little easier, since she wouldn't be scared of hurting the other girl too much. Or not feel guilty at all.
The smiled, and bowed. She was excited. It didn't mean too much, not really, but she still wanted to win. It always felt good when you won. Seeing as she didn't know what Junia would do she cast "Protego!" first, just so she could have a think about what she wanted to do. At least that meant that Hattie missed the first spell that Junia cast. Just to double make sure it was working she jumped to the side. Good. Nothing had hit. So far so good. Though she wanted to use more magic to dodge spells, rather than physically moving.
Now to do her own spells. She concentrated, wanting to do her very best. Aiming her wand at Junia she performed "babbling curse" and left it as that for now. That was okay. For now.

The fact that neither of her spells had hit made the second year terribly annoyed but she didn't let it show, wouldn't let it. She knew that if she let her annoyance get the best of her, there was no WAY she'd be able to win and that was her goal, obviously. What even was the POINT of dueling if you didn't want to win?
Being small and quick had its merits and as soon as she saw Hattie's lips moving, she rolled out of the way, deciding that moving was her best bet to stay clear of the blonde's spells. At least the ones that were too quick to block. "Good one," She commented as she stood, moving back and forth on her side of the room. Then, without missing a beat, she fired a, "Mucus ad Nauseam!" Gross, right? But hopefully distracting enough that her follow up would hit. "Flipendo!"

Okay. So Harriet was okay right now. She was easily distracted though, and was so glad that she didn't know Julia too well. IF she had known her better she might have got distracted more. But she was trying to not get distracted. IF she got distracted then she might lose the duel. And she really did not want to lose the duel. So no distractions please.
"It's great" She mused with a grin, but then focused again. She wasn't going to get distracted by idle chit chat. She did a double take though, not expecting the spell to come so quickly. Suddenly her nose was running a lot. She grumbled, quickly ducking to the side to miss the next spell. This running nose was not good. And she needed to work out how to get rid of the spell.
Whilst she did this, she said "Immobulus" to at least try and get a spell to hit Julia. Come onn. One needed to hit. Now to try and cast a spell to get rid of her sudden head cold.

Junia wasn't fast enough and she'd tried, wand up and ready to cast a shield to protect herself from Hattie's spell. A good one, too. One Junia would've liked to try at some point, and now wouldn't get the chance to.
She couldn't move. She tried so hard and she couldn't and it made her so angry. The anger met with an overwhelming surge of frustration and she felt her eyes tear up, though she could do nothing about that. The only thing that would help would be non-verbal magic and unfortunately, she wasn't skilled at that. Hattie had just won the duel and the second year very likely would never forgive herself for that.
...Now if Hattie or Hirsch would just unfreeze her, she could get to her dorm in sulk in peace. Junia Botros did not like to lose.

Oh. Okay. Harriet wasn't actually expecting that to actually work. She'd been practicing, so that she could get better at her spells. But she hadn't really though it was going to work. Or she at least thought that Junia was going to jump out of the way. So Hatie was kind of shocked. She was happy, she had won? But then. She didn't know if she liked it like this. Junia hadn't really been able to duel back, not when she couldn't move.
Maybe if they were older, they could have used non-verbal magic to undo the spell. But they were both only second years. It was advantage magic. So Hattie did the only logical, and nice thing she could think of. She wandered closer to Junia and said "Finite" So that the girl could actually be unfroze. "Sorry...." She felt kind of bad. "I didn't know that was gonna work so well..."
Though. Should she be prepared that Junia might like do a spell now? She wasn't sure. But that didn't really matter. She was kind of more worried that she could have made an enemy now.

| urine trouble | Pat's Strong Confident Other Half | Pees Like a Champion Unicorn Racehorse Hirsch was very interested to see how the two girls fared in this duel. For one, Miss Paton was the sister of an aspiring Auror and he was sure that the boy didn't shut up about Defence - or so he hoped. And Miss Botros? If his lesson was anything to go by, he expected a lot from her.
No pressure?
The duel continued and despite things, the man found himself smiling. It was quite a good duel, considering their ages, and both seemed to be good with their reflexes, which was an important factor to have in this club. But, all too soon, the duel was coming to a close with an immobilised Miss Botros being un-immobilised. That was a polite ending, wasn't it? "Well done, both of you. I'm very impressed with the magic displayed here today." Really. "You've put up an excellent fight, Miss Botros but, Miss Paton, you've won this duel today. Congratulations!" Frankie would be happy to hear this, he bet. Stats: Junia Botros: 41.07% Harriet Paton: 60%
