Millie listened to the other's answers. stab them in the face, in the neck.. yes yes yes. "Aim for a major artery in the neck or their biceps really either spot is going to bring them straight to the ground, the artery, they'll bleed out and the bicep will weaken their Arm. So you have a great chance of defeating them long enough to take control over the situation or get away if need be." she said rather plainly. She wasnt too excited about no magic combat, but hey that 6 month internship at that muggle station when she turned 18 really came in handy.

He boldly unstrapped his wand from its wrist holster (after making the holster visible, of course) and tossed the whole schabang to Jax.

"Play along with me here for a second. Picture yourself unarmed, facing a threat, and all you currently have to fight back with is yourself and the contents of your pocket." Wes held up his snazzy blue notebook now, rotating it slightly so it'd catch their eyes. "How could one use this here notebook and simple pen in self defense?" Sky gazed around and listened to all the answers. Yeap with enough force you could seriously injure someone in the neck with the pen. Well I would through the book at his face like what Josh said. Then I would use the distraction to get me closer to him and then if need be stab him with the pen somewhere if we needed him alive probablly not a good idea to stab him in the neck but yeah. If you know hand combat that would help the situation. Luckily for her, her dad was paranoid and made her take karate. Though back then when she was enroled in it she hated it and never thought it was going to help her.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee "I would think you'd need a pretty strong reason to go for a kill shot, even if you're just using a ballpoint pen as the weapon. Bare fists are considered a deadly weapon if they're the right fists." Cade was concerned about the number of people that wanted to stab and bleed and MAIM. Although... if threatened, she supposed it was good to know that those options were available.
Still, her gut suggested that if one fought back, the attacker was likely to flee. "I would be tempted to drop the pad to draw the attacker's attention and then aim for the nearest pressure point - the instep or the solar-plexus - with the ultimate goal being to disarm him. Drive him off, if possible."

Kensi thought for a moment, then spoke up. " Sir," she began, wanting to be polite and not really knowing if it was expected or now, "would using either of those items be completely necessary? Old school combat might be more useful..." she thought about fists, and kicks...and even teeth. However, against a wand, she didn't know how successful one might be...
Kensi had been a pretty good fist fighter back in the day...of course, she had been a little firecracker when she was younger...still was, when she got in the mood to be.

| About time I post. :P Benjamin was behind the boss-man watching the group of newbies come up with answers. He of course, has experience with hand to hand combat (magic isn't allowed in the London Police force.) The Detective laughed to himself at some of the answers, but ended up coming up with even sillier ideas. Well, I would take the pen and paper and write a strongly worded letter asking him kindly to not attack me. That would be nice.
But, the question would be, why don't I have my wand on me? Or my back-up wand? Details.
Ah, well. Ben just observed and observed. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Dalia Turay Fourth Year | Zing Krys raised his eyebrows at some of the suggestions - well, they were ideas at least... "It depends what else was around. If there was something ye could throw it at to make a noise that could be a good distraction." he said.
Then again, he always carried a spare wand nowadays - after that unfortunate incident in Spain had left him wandless and unable to apparate home or contact anybody for a week and a half. The only thing he really used a notebook for was crime scene details to be honest... he usually just got stuck in with the hands on fighting if it was necessary... |

Hogwarts RPG Name: TBD Gryffindor Hogwarts RPG Name: Zara H. Bunbury-Foster Slytherin Fifth Year | my apologies for not posting sooner! Professor Pink | Mrs. Bruce Wayne | I'm on a Goat | Glitterpuff | Dumbledore's Defense Squad | BHB So they WERE awake. Wes was liking these answers. It seemed he and Van had hired some very..... creative minds. Hopefully he'd never get on the bad side of any of them because he didn't particularly WANT to be the victim of a pocket notebook attack or something worse.
"Good answers, everybody. You could and should try ALL of them at some point. Now take note: I have this notebook, this PARTICULAR pocket notebook, because it's a life-saving tool. Not only can it be used as a miniature curse-deflector or shield if you wear it in the pocket of your shirt," he demonstrated with his own, "but it can also be used as a weapon as you all have astutely pointed out."
He raised his eyebrows and tilted his head toward the door, where an official headless MLE dummy had just come in. The enchanted dummy started walking toward Wes, who continued talking and calmly gesturing toward it with his pen. "I'm going to demonstrate how I would go about handling a... person attacking me in combat. As for why I don't have a wand... perhaps it was stolen, perhaps I was disarmed, or perhaps I'm facing a Muggle and I'd rather NOT breach the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy."
He eyed the Wizengamot people at that one and took a glance over his shoulder. Oh, good, the dummy was about next to attack him; its hands were out and everything. Wes slid his grip on his pen to the end by the clicker and then flung it straight at the dummy's neck, watching as the pen nailed its target right at the throat. "That would be the carotid artery, for those of you who don't know," Wes continued explaining, winking briefly at Emily. "So let's say your opponent is... choking, now, but still coming at you. As Law Enforcement officers, I would NOT recommend 'running away.' We're the ones people run to when they're being attacked, so like it or not, you have to turn the tables on your attacker and at least get them to a position where you can bring them in."
Now for the dummy demonstration... Wes flexed the fingers of his right hand into a fist and waited for the right moment to strike. The enchanted object was still coming forward to attack him, even with the pen sticking out of its neck. "As Cade said, you don't always have to go for the kill shot. You CAN injure them enough so that they become distracted by the pain. That gives you time to get backup or get to your wand. You can also just knock them unconscious by using the sleeper hold, for example."
Since the dummy didn't have a head, Wes wasn't going to go punching anyone on the face as much as he liked to. Instead, he went for four specific areas in a row... well, as best as he was able, considering that it was a dummy. "Just remember," he elbowed the dummy in the midsection, then stepped on its toe and turned around, "to SING." Wes jammed his palm up to where the dummy's nose would be and then gave it a good kick when he was done with it. The mannequin-like figure fell limply to the ground. "What's that stand for, anyone?"

| haha Nice demonstration to give the answer ;) Shoe!Girl │ Rebel Ravie │ Confundus Queen │ RP Addict Cade had apparently been the only division head that had felt the need to suggest anything in response to Wes's question about attack ideas involving the pocket notebook, and she'd had a good point in stating that they didn't always need to go for the kill. Dorian had just stayed quiet to let the workers speak up, although he'd glan ce dover at ben with the slightest of raised eyebrows as the other man had laughed to himself. He honestly wasn't surprised the YATIs had spoken up, along with Miss Browne. They all seemed to like the more physical side to the job after all. Distraction was always useful though, as well. Both in hand-to-hand combat and combat involving wands.
The demonstration had been quite amusing as well, seeing as it was against a headless dummy. He barely cracked a smile, however. Now wasn't the time for facetiousness, it was the time for training and being serious. To which point he decided to speak up at the next question. "That would be referring to the areas you attacked," he replied finally, drily. Well, hypothetically attacked in the case of the third area. "The solar plexus, instep," and he glanced over at Cade as she'd mentioned those earlier, "nose and groin." None of which were particularly pleasant to be hit in, which was why he preferred using magic.

Krys watched the demonstration carefully, making mental notes as he did so. The only hand-to-hand training he'd ever had had been a few martial arts classes they year after he graduated and it wasn't always possible to use that in some situations. Besides, Krys would much rather use his wand. It was faster... and he was better at duelling than fighting anyway...
SING..? Huh? Nope. He had no idea what that meant... It could be useful if you were a siren maybe... But otherwise you'd just look a bit ridiculous. Then one of the department heads spoke up. Aaah... an acronym. That made sense... Well they rarely helped Krys remember stuff, he got all the letters muddled and the words ended up all mixed together. Oh well, he'd try and remember it anyway. |

Wait, SING? Well, Roxanne's singing voice WOULD probably be enough to scare away any assailants, but she didn't think that was what Wes meant. Her thoughts were confirmed a second later when Dorian spoke up. She felt that there was no need to parrot anyone's else's thoughts on the matter, especially when she hadn't known the answer. So, she kept quiet.

Interesting. Very Interesting, this was. British people were pretty cool, yep. Kensi watched her boss 'take down' the dummy. Ah, the pen in the neck. Kensi wouldn't have thought of it...she was far too rash. She'd had to work on that.
AH, SING. Kensi had heard of this before, and was about to answer, but someone beat her to it. Well, no point in just repeating... she thought to herself. It might have been an American thing, she didn't know...it certainly was known by most of my colleagues in America.
Kensi just wanted to practice...she was itching to get into action...

Sky looked back to the boss man as he began to speak once more. Then a dummy appeared, so he was going to show us how to fight with out a wand. SING, she had heard of this a couple times. What did it mean..She knew what N and G meant but couldnt quite remember what the S and I meant. Hearing someone say it she made a mental note that SING was the solar plexus, instep, nose and groin. Noticing no one else spoke up she thought to herself Well yeah, it would be pretty useless repeating what someone else said. Sky could not wait to get training.

None of which were particularly pleasant to be hit in, which was why he preferred using magic. Ah yes, good. Wes knew he could count on his division heads to Know Things and help him teach the younguns. He could tell at least a couple of the new hires and perhaps a few of the old ones were looking confused about this... Muggle fighting nonsense. "Thank you, Dorian," Wes exhaled, ticking off and repeating his answers again. "S stands for the solar plexus, a combination of nerves just behind the stomach and near the diaphragm. So a good punch to the gut will knock the wind your opponent and give you time to further incapacitate them with the other 3 moves."
The next of which was... Instep. "I is for instep and I think we all know where the instep is," but Wes pointed to his foot anyway. "It's that archy part of your foot in front of your ankle. So step down hard on that and your opponent will basically be winded AND limping." Good move. "N is for nose, so you can just elbow a person hard in the face or use the butt of your palm. That works well." He winked. "And I think the G for groin is pretty self explanatory." He did NOT need to demonstrate that one.
So what did they need to remember? "Other than using SING against your opponent, and the resources you have on you," such as your trusty pocket notebook and pen, "what ELSE could you do to a person? What natural defenses do you have?"
This was his last question before setting them loose to do a little... dummy practice.

| Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna Simon stayed quiet meerly thinking about the proposed issue and listening to the answers given. Some had merit and some seemed to him as being soso in their reasoning. However he wouldn't discredit them. As Wes described the four steps of the SING method, he was briefly reminded of being taught it at some other point or at least something similar. And having an older brother around gave him enough experience growing up in physical versus magical fighting.
As the question was asked of what other resources on which to work off of, Simon finally spoke up. "Theres still always the wit and smarts to try and talk your way out of the situation. Or at least confuse them enough to back off to some extent." Simon may be training to be an auror which tended to be more physical at times but he wasn't one who was so quick to always fight if there were other quite workable ways out. He had chosen defense versus offense with his own teachings.

Kensi listened to head guy again...he was so wise, wasn't he? Sure. She pulled back her red hair into a pony, ready for the time when they would be running around and...hurting things. That would be the fun part. But of course, they had to learn the proper way to do it first, right? Kensi was just hoping she was entirely WAAAY far behind...after all, England might be some super ninja place where everyone fights amazingly well...Hmph. "Well, one natural defense is your voice. You can distract someone by calling out, pointing, acting as if something is coming for you, yelling that someone is calling, etc..." she said out loud, thinking of some of the more foolish people she had fought in the past. Yep. Her voice had definitely come in handy then, eh?

| That's Rough Buddy | Be the Flower | Moon & Stars This was interesting, indeed. Especially the SING bit. For a minute there Yvonne thought Mr. Ferguson was expecting them to sing...with their voices. Not that she was a bad singer, but she'd rather tackle someone down instead of demonstrating them her voice. It was a good thing SING stood for something, which lit Yvonne's green/gray eyes with interest.
She glanced around, her eyes landing on a few people she'd like to practice SING on. Not that she had anything against her colleagues. No. She didn't even know them, but she was eager to show what she could do.
What else could they do?
She had an answer to that. "If you're close enough to your opponent you could always go for the eyes." Scratch them out and rid them of one of their most vital senses. You weren't always going to have a tiny pen to throw at them right? Right.

| Dem Carters | even 🕊🕊 have pride | | Expecto PAWtronum 🐈 | U-NA-GI Roxanne pondered that question for a second. What were some good natural defenses? Well, there were a bunch of good ideas going around already, but nobody had said the one she was thinking yet. "You could bite the person." And it seemed that that was the rock that broke the dam on her responses, because once she'd said that, ideas just kept coming to her. "Rings can also be pretty dangerous, and the heel of a woman's shoe," she pointed down at her own "can hurt pretty badly as well. And speaking of shoes, they can be a great distraction if you kick them off during a fight, or even take them off and throw 'em." Yeah, she was just going to stop right there and give someone else a chance to answer.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Dalia Turay Fourth Year | Zing Did someone just suggest taking off your shoes during a fight? Krys wouldn't do that unless it was completely necessary - what if you had to run? Or there was sharp stuff around? And they were a valuable protection. And if you had no shoes on then a kick wasn't going to do as much damage.
Hmm... natural resources? "Fingernails..." he said. "They can do a lot of damage if ye need them too." And didn't he know it - after dumping Helen he had decided only to date girls with short fingernails... "But ye have a natural defence reflex too - so it's important to hone that as well as fighting skills." That counted right..?

"Legs, perhaps" said Julia. A person who doesn't have a good stand on ground will obviously be distracted. "Get a little close and go for the legs" she continued. "You could get twist it a bit, with your own hands" Won't look pleasant though. "They'd lose their support, and it gives a lot of pain too" she added. "Let them stumble a bit and you get time to plan your next attack" she said.

The redhead had been standing somewhat to the back, listening to what was being said, but not throwing in his two cents. Sometimes it was better to just listen than to speak up. Sometimes you learned more that way. But back to his answer at hand. "Pressure points. If you can get to any of the pressure points, especially the ones in the neck/shoulder areas, you could take down someone easily." Yep...He had done it before as part of training for the Luxembourg Wizarding police force. "But I have to agree with the using wits against them." It was a good tactic, for certain situations, not for all situations. Now could they practice some skills?? |

She watched as the boss man pointed to where the S and the I and the N and the G were. Of course she knew where the nose and the groin was but she had no clue where the instep was and she had no clue what the solar plexus was.
Other natural degenses. Erm brains... Um, some natural defenses could be your smarts-wits you could say a riddle and confuse them. Also you could use the opponent's weaknesses against them for example they might have a weak leg or bad back or like what Benjy said pressure points would be useful as well-if you know where they are. As for Sky she knew where most of them were.

Jaxton stood next to the others, and grinned cheekily at Cade as she asked if they were ready for this... he was born ready. Well, he'd been trained to be ready - but that counted... right? He shook his head slightly to rid his thoughts and grinned at his best friend as he took up a place beside him. Who would have thought he and Gabe would have been the two Division Heads again... it had been Damien for so long.
Without much pretense, Wesley through his wand at Jaxton and - luckily - he caught it perfectly. Wouldn't Wes have regretted doing that if he hadn't caught it and his wand had broken. Jaxton rolled his eyes slightly - yeah right. Like he'd let that happen to his best friend's Wand. That would pretty much be a death sentence for the DMLE Head... yeah. He was glad he'd caught it.
He stood still, listening to Wesley's questions and listening to the Department's replies. There were a few that he was disturbed by - but he knew that if it was life or death - you picked life, and you fight for it... there was nothing like having to cope with your actions when the cold light of day hit. It was ... in that case... perhaps a good thing that they were willing to put up a fight for it - when they didn't actually need to fight.

Hmm so Simon was one who would try to outsmart his opponent... or at least he'd be in communication with them. That was a good trait, one not found in most Aurors. Heh. "Good idea," Wes nodded to the YATI. "You won't be able to talk to these dummies though."
He made a beckoning motion with his hand and a small flock legion army of headless dummies came marching through the door of the training room. The dummies looked pretty fit and very creepy without any heads, but they did not do anything, and would not do anything, until they were signaled again. For now, they formed a perimeter around the room and just... waited. Quote:

Kensi was just hoping she was entirely WAAAY far behind...after all, England might be some super ninja place where everyone fights amazingly well...Hmph. "Well, one natural defense is your voice. You can distract someone by calling out, pointing, acting as if something is coming for you, yelling that someone is calling, etc..." she said out loud, thinking of some of the more foolish people she had fought in the past. Yep. Her voice had definitely come in handy then, eh? "Also a good point," Wes raised a brow at the young security officer, "especially if you're a female. Females are... particularly adept at screaming." in an eardrum-bursting way.
Just sayin'. Quote:

She glanced around, her eyes landing on a few people she'd like to practice SING on. Not that she had anything against her colleagues. No. She didn't even know them, but she was eager to show what she could do.
What else could they do?
She had an answer to that. "If you're close enough to your opponent you could always go for the eyes." Scratch them out and rid them of one of their most vital senses. You weren't always going to have a tiny pen to throw at them right? Right.
"Ah, that's an answer I was looking for." Wes smiled a bit at the new Auror. Good, good. "Scratch them out, throw sand in their face, punch them in the eyeballs... all work." Quote:

And it seemed that that was the rock that broke the dam on her responses, because once she'd said that, ideas just kept coming to her. Wes was amused for some reason by Roxanne's typical woman answers. "Shoes... are great, sure. But so is biting, a natural defense. Jewelry and such is also good." He nodded at her, still smiling slightly. Quote:

Hmm... natural resources? "Fingernails..." he said. "They can do a lot of damage if ye need them too." And didn't he know it - after dumping Helen he had decided only to date girls with short fingernails... "But ye have a natural defence reflex too - so it's important to hone that as well as fighting skills." That counted right..?
"Fingernails are also good," yep, they went along with the biting and scratching and such. "Right." He nodded. This newbie was good. Quote:

"Let them stumble a bit and you get time to plan your next attack" she said.
"Very smart," Wes nodded to Julia. "Take the legs out from under them and you literally have an advantage over them." Heh. Quote:

If you can get to any of the pressure points, especially the ones in the neck/shoulder areas, you could take down someone easily." Yep...He had done it before as part of training for the Luxembourg Wizarding police force. "But I have to agree with the using wits against them." It was a good tactic, for certain situations, not for all situations. Now could they practice some skills?? Ah, this one was a newly hired Hit Wizard, yes? Wes had been smart in hiring him. "Pressure points go along perfectly with SING, sensitive areas of the body. If you'd like to demonstrate those on your dummy for us...." That'd be good. "I'd suggest you all look those up if you don't know those. And learn the sleeper hold if you can." Not everyone could, but it was a useful move to learn, especially if you were attacked from behind. Other natural degenses. Erm brains...Um, some natural defenses could be your smarts-wits you could say a riddle and confuse them. Also you could use the opponent's weaknesses against them for example they might have a weak leg or bad back or like what Benjy said pressure points would be useful as well-if you know where they are. As for Sky she knew where most of them were.
"Yes, very good Sky." She'd done a nice summary there and added in some other points. "All right," Wes glanced down at his watch. "Let's go ahead and practice on the dummies." He snapped the fingers of his right hand and the lurking headless army sprang into action. "There's more than enough dummies here for EVERYONE to practice upon. Once you... take one out, another one will come give you a go until I call them off. Remember, use your natural defenses and SING against them first. No magic."
Magic wouldn't work on them anyway. Smirk. Wes took back his wand and holster from Jax and stepped back, watching as the dummies stormed the MLE employees. OOC: You all (division heads included) can RP for yourself and your dummy(ies). You can even team up if you think of that. Just remember to stay within your ability range and be realistic about it. Dummies are dumb but they are also strong!

| astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Aron had sort of just stood off to the side during the...theoretical(?) portion of the training. He felt like he was back in school and, well, to be entirely honest didn't feel like answer such questions. That...and he was still severely distracted by the Head Cabbage's NEATO pen set.
Seriously. Where and WHEN could they get one of those? Maybe after this training was over?
In the next moment a small army of headless dummies came in. Headless...which meant that SING was going to become SIG since there was no nose to target. Head Cabbage! Faulty logic! "You mean SIG," Aron chuckled. What? He couldn't help it! They were nose-less like Voldemort. Although, they could always try to go for the nose, for practicing purposes.
Aron stepped a bit to the side, away from the crowd since that was only going to complicate his movements trying to avoid whacking his co-workers. So...wait for the bloke, erm, thing to come to him? Which didn't take too long at all. Smirking to himself, Aron allowed the creepy hing to wrap its arms around him like a Brazilian Boa Vine and sort of just stood there for a moment before moving swiftly into the first wave of attack. First came a firm elbow into the dummy's solar plexus once or twice to push it back and then stomped on its left foot with his. Aron was able to turn around after this, but the blasted thing still had a grip on his arm. UG.
Aron's eyes narrowed and he kicked at it hard...in the groin...which didn't produce the expect result since, well, erm, it WAS a dummy. Maybe he should make up a new G for this time around... Gut perhaps? Smirk.

Annd... here we go. Time to put what they'd learned into practice. As the robot dummy army was unleashed, Roxanne also moved away from her coworkers slightly so as not to accidentally hit one of them. Would not be good for office peacefulness, that's for sure. As one of the dummies moved to attack her from behind, she jammed her elbow hard into it's solar plexus, completely forgetting for a moment that the dummy was plastic. Ow! Fighting off the pain for a moment, she moved to stomp the dummies instep with the heel of her shoe and biting into it's arm when it still would not let her go.
Finally free, Roxanne rubbed at her injured elbow. Dang, it hurt like the dickens!
