The training arena is a converted area, made up of what was once the Education Department. To access the training arena you need to have the password, which changes regularly. To access the Training arena, you need to go through a certain closet, where you'll be trapped if you happen to get the password wrong, or attempt to enter without clearance.
-------------
The training room itself often changes, but currently it appears to be the inside of a derelict building. Targets and dummies occasionally, come into view, and depending on the task at hand, MLE employees will be required to eliminate, capture or disable said targets. Sometimes team events may be held here, sometimes individual scenarios.
------------
Please read the RULES before you PLAY.
Current stats will be listed under the scenario in question at the bottom of this post.
The CURRENT scenario is listed beneath the spoiler tags.
Quote:
RULES
1. Training only in here. You can interact with others, as long as your character is there for training. This is not a general chat thread.
2. Your posts will be deleted if you don't have permission (either IC or OOC) to play here. To play here, you must be: a) an employee of MLE, with permission granted by your division head or department head
or
b) an employee of another department with an official request for training by your department head AND permission given by Emily Browne, the MLE department head.
3. You can take as many posts as you like to finish the task, or as few, but the more detailed you are the better your character will 'score.'
4. The requirements for each scenario are listed before the spoiler cut.
5. Please be 'realistic.' If your character is inexperienced, let them BE inexperienced. RP them learning, rather than knowing.
6. Your character's results will be sent via owl or internal memo, and posted on the noticeboard.
7. Sometimes, you may be quoted by Hera, your division head, or a red name account. You will be expected to react. Otherwise, you need to be creative and imaginative, and decide what you see in front of your character. You should not wait for someone to post to you, but you may not double post here. You may make up spells! But do try to use HP canon & SS canon information first where it is available.
8. As per usual, all site rules apply.

SPOILER!!: scenario
As you walk into the training arena, through the janitor's closet you find yourself in a quiet, dank, and eerily lit building. It seems derelict and like it may just crumble around your ears at any moment. A small card floats in front of you with your task written on it. You may choose what to do with this card once you have read it.
Quote:
Your mission is to secure the area. There are at least three spells in use to detect intruders, as well as two magical, non-spell methods. You will detect these spells, analyse them, and reverse those which are likely to be dangerous. You need to be able to lead an unarmed squib from the area unscathed.
A blank dummy, presumably the squib, stands next to you.
--------- In addition to this instruction, further prompts were given, including in one case a map on the back of the card.

There was probably a hefty Cave Inimicum too, although there wasn't much she could do about it at the moment. Instead, Cade chose to focus on what she could... getting her squibby friend out the door on the other side of the room safely.
"Come on then, love," she hitched an arm around the dummy and began to drag it out into the room. Too much to keep her mind on, however... moving the dummy, watching for trouble, listening to that terrible wailing, and the kettle... she should head straight home for the kettle!
Ugh. Cade shook her head as she let the dummy fall to the floor. There wasn't a single thing she could do about moving the dummy or keeping an eye out for trouble, but perhaps she could get the wailing to stop. "Finite Incantatem."

She picked it up but its legs were still touching the ground...She knew there wasnt a Caterwauling Charm or a Intruder Charm or there might have been she didnt really give them a chance to start working immediatly after entering the room she had done Finite Incantatem, so if they were on then they would have been undone, right? Thinking of any other spells that could secure an area, she knew that there had to be a Cave Inimicum. She knew that Cave Inimicum warned her of any approaching enemies...It couldnt be harmful so this was good.
So she knew that there was 1 magical spell left if there was a cave inimicum which there probablly would be and lastly a non-magical protection...Hopefully she could figure them out.

"You need a name, little squibby. It's rude to keep calling you dummy in my head. Frank. We'll call you Frank." Cade gave his head a little patpatpat and continued crossing the room toward the gaping doorway. She sent the flaming card ahead of her to light the way, but no additional obstacles sprang up.
Something was coming, though, and she was going to be ready. Yes. Only... she really did think the kettle was on. And she needed to buy Carrigan a new pair of shoes for nursery school. And what would they have for dinner tonight? Merlin, she had so much to do, and she just should not be here. She should be...
Cade shook her head again and gave Frank a hearty smack. Anti-Intruder Spell again. She needed to remember to distrust her thoughts until she was clear of the room, since the Finite Incantatem hadn't worked.
At last, she reached the doorway. It opened into a long hall, and she could see light from the street streaming through the glass panes on the door at the end. The hallway seemed to stretch forever, but she could see the end. It was in sight! HALLELUJAH.
All a bit premature, however, as a line of magicked fire rose from the floor, stretching between Cade and the door. Frank's leg caught fire, and she smacked at the flames with her bare palm.

Taking it in her left hand, she read it not once, but twice, wand firmly gripped in her right hand. Well it sounded simple enough. All she had to do was take her squib... squib? Where was her squib?
Looking around her, Emily’s eyes fell on the blank dummy beside her. So that was her squib! Great...
So transport the Squib across to the other side, without being harmed. All the while she had three intruder detecting spells to identify and deal with as well as two non-spell methods. Again, it sounded easy enough... but she knew it going to be anything but that. Feeling her front pocket, she still had the half bottle of Essence of Dittany, that she had used earlier in the day... she may need it. Who knew.
She gave her Squib a sympathetic look. “I’ll do my best not to get you killed.” It wasn’t a lie, she was going to give the mission everything she had. And that dummy would get out alive. Or so she hoped at least. She really wasn’t in a mood to fail.
Folding the card and slipping it into her back pocket, Emily flicked her wrist, producing her back up wand. Two was better than one, no? And either way, she wasn’t about to carry the Squib across the room. If it was real, it would be able to walk. End of story.
“Locomotor,” whispered Emily, flicking her back up wand at the inanimate dummy. It rose from the floor, its undefined toes barely an inch off the ground, just levitating.
“Stay close Squiby.”

Someone? Julia listened intently. The steps sounded close. Someone was coming closer, maybe something? "Protego" she said lowly, creating a shield around her.
Is that water slowly seeping into the room? As you watch you realise it is not so slow after all and the liquid is a little.... heavier than water. What could it be? What are you going to do now?

Suddenly 'little it' became strangely heavy and began to make alarming groaning sounds. It appears your squib dummy is afraid of the dark. Furthermore it appears the caterwauling charm, while silenced, has still alerted something to your presence. All lights are immediately extinguished. The inky blackness is so great that you cannot even see your hand in front of your face. Lumos is unlikely to work. What will you do now?

She slipped it back out immediately, opening it at the fold... it didn't appear to be dangerous. But it didn't mean that it wasn't. Before getting ahead of herself, Emily decided to read it one last time... perhaps she had missed something.
What had she missed? She thought she understood the message perfectly clearly. Squib, 3 spells, 2 non-spells, secure the area and leave unharmed. Rubbing her temple with her wrist- wand still in hand- Emily frowned, then looked at the Squiby... then back at the note.
Feeling a little uneasy at the twitchy card, Emily directed her wand to the hallway and room ahead of her. Perhaps she just needed to get started?
“SpeRevelio.”

Looking down at it again Emily watched it, she didn't need to read it again, the words hadn't changed. But then she noticed something different... something that hadn't been there before. A map!
Oh how exciting!
Shifting a little closer to her Squiby she analysed the map. It looked a little overwhelming, the building itself was simple, but then there all these clues.
Clearly the two X's represented her current location and the desired destination. Simple enough. But then everything else made it look a lot more complicated.
"What do you think?" she asked her Squiby-- just because she felt like it. Everything seemed better when you had someone to share the experience with, so she was going to share it. Even if poor Squiby wasn't real.
Emily continued to analyse the map. She was able to identify the location of Devil's Snare--by the depiction of vines; the Caterwaul Charm; Anti gravity symbolised by clouds?; Downfall- rain drops?; Fiend... fire. Emily only hoped that didn't translate into Fiendfyre. She swallowed nervously and pat her Squib on the back. She really didn't want it to become a pile of gooey rubbery plastic.
Checking the instructions one last time, Emily sighed. It said to secure the building, meaning all of the building, so she wouldn't be able to take a direct route to the finishing line. Plus it looked as though she would have some exploring to do. The question marks concerned her a little, but it got the adrenaline pumping.
She put the map in her pocket for safe keeping, and then turned to her Squib. "Right Champ, how about we go on an adventure?"
First thing first... a right hand turn. Time to start securing the building, South to North.
Wand at the ready, Squib in tow, Emily advanced toward the Devil's Snare. That would be her first target, then she'd deal with the Anti gravity.

Casting another spell, she tightened the protection around her.
It was still so dark. "Lumos Maxima" she said, calmly. Wait, did I see something glimmer? Julia walked forward, her wand ready. She could make out a shape at some distance, a circular shape. Hollow and black, something like a huge, black tunnel. A trap? "SpeRevelio" she said. Something caught her eye, and she gave a low gasp.

She twiler her wand in her hands thinking about all the light and fire spells, Lumos, Lumos Duo, Lumos Solem, Lumos Maxima, Incendio, and Baubillious...She doubted Lumos would work, definatly not Duo, maybe Solem and Maxima , Incendio was to risky, and she never really tried Baubillious...
So Solem, Maxima and Baubillious and if she really needed light Incendio, if the 3 light spells didnt work she would just kick her 4 other senses in high gear!!!
She said Baubillious.

It was swift and quick, its thick snake like vines wrapping around her ankles, bringing her crashing to the ground, only to pull her into its grasp. "Lu-Lu-Luu-mo," she choked as the vines wrapped themselves around her middle.
"Lumos Solem!"
The Devil's Snare recoiled from the light, screeching as it released its grip on her. As quickly as she could, she scrambled out of the way, wand still raised defensively. The only way to secure the building, was to destroy it. Light could only hold it off for so long... it took a little pyrotechnic to deal with it for the long term.
"Confringo!"
Gasping for breath, Emily wrapped an arm around her middle. Merlin her ribs ached!!! But she needed to soldier on. After picking herself up off the floor, she returned to her Squibs side, ensuring nothing had gotten to it.
She turned her gaze to the hall again.. there was a door...
Emily pulled out the map. According to the depictions... she looked to the opposite side from where the Devil's Snare lay burning and charred.
Anti gravity... this would be interesting.

As she stepped forward, a card floated infront of her, and she grabbed it with her left hand, whilst keeping an eye on what was going on around her, making sure nobody came up and like attacked her whilst she was reading.

Isobel read the card, at least three times. Making sure that she wasn't going to miss anything. Three spells, and two other methods. Okay. Five things. Isobel attempted to remember that, so that she would be able to mentally tick each thing one as she went along. Five things. Reverse any spells that were dangerous. Well that obviously signalled that some of them were going to be dangerous. Isobel looked up from the card, glancing around. Yes. She was going to watch out for anything dangerous.
And finally. A squib. She glanced around again, and laid eyes on the dummy that was the right to her. Ahh. That must be the squib. "We'll get out of here..." Isobel nodded, stepping forward, and grabbing the dummy. Now. Five things. Five potenitally dangerous things. And a squib too look after. Isobel glanced around, taking more steps forward, as she kept thinking those things in her head....whilst constantly glancing around for anything that approached her...and the squib.

Emily hoped she wouldn't be one of those idiots.
Studying the map again for good measure, Emily braced herself. She really wasn't very prepared for this at all. Keeping Squiby close to her she took a few steps forward. Just relax, and overcome the obstacle, she thought to herself. So long as she could overcome it, she really didn't need to remove it right? Because that would just be complicated... and it’s not like floating was life threatening... or was it?
Shaking herself out of her thoughts, Emily proceeded, taking calculated step after calculated step... Right...
GAH!
As soon as she had taken her third step forward she found that she was suddenly being lifted up... carried away, as if she was full of helium. Emily flailed, as Squiby caught up with her, floating up to meet her in midair.
"It's k..." she muttered reassuringly, "I've got this under control."
Casting her eyes around the area she struggled to think of a way to get down that would be safe for both of them. Now she had intended on moving forward... but that just seemed too awkward, and who knew how far the enchantment stretched! For all she knew she could swim/sail her way through the air to the other side of the building.
SAILING! That’s it!!
"AHA! Come Squiby! I have an idea," she said triumphantly, because really she could have just secured a rope to the door hand she had past and pulled herself out of it. But this was would be far more ... exciting?... entertaining?
Swinging and arm around her Squiby, wands still clutched in her firm multi-tasking womanly grip, Emily directed her trusty Oak behind them, in the direction of where they had come from.
Carefully, and with as much precision as she could muster in a moment of ... euphoria? ... Emily cast an air shooting spell, allowing her and Squiby to propel forward through the air together, as if sailing. Literally like sailing. It was all going very well, they were inching their way across.. But Emily was all too nervous about the.........
DROP!!!
"Aresto Momentum!"
Letting out a huge sigh of relief, Emily found herself face planted on the concrete floor, Squiby, dangling lifelessly at her side. It hadn't died of a heart attack had it? Meh... it would be fine. Composing herself, she gathered herself up off the floor and dusted herself off, before doing the same to Squiby.
"That was fun... want to do it again?" she teased. Really she had no idea if that was the right move. Perhaps it was a bit foolish, what if the ceiling had been enchanted to swallow her up? or transport her to an early grave? ... it was all possible wasn't it?
Emily exchanged a blank look with Squiby-- because that’s the only look it had.
"I promise I'll be more careful now... alright?" Guh, why was she talking to an inanimate object? Had she really lost her mind?
Examining the map again, Emily gulped..
This is what she had been fearing.... the possibility of fiendfyre. But surely in such a contained area, they wouldn't... would they? Levitating Squiby behind her- so she could shield it from the potential fire-plastic-rubbery-melting-prospect, Emily led the way forward, Oak directed in front of her, though she wasn't prepared for anything... except aguamenti.
She made it to the corner... phew... But then of course... the fire wasn't at the corner. Emily rolled her eyes to herself. EEEeeekkk! Nerves!
Taking a deep breath she continued. There was no fire in sight, but as soon as she had rounded the corner to the next corridor a wall of enchanted flames towered ahead of her.
"Oh great... we have to pass through fire!" she exclaimed... though perhaps she shouldn't have. "We can do this... I can do this..." she muttered- mostly to comfort herself rather than the Squiby.
“Aguamenti,” cast Emily... though really she knew it wouldn’t work. If only she had a cauldron and the right collection of potions ingredients... then she could brew herself a potion to allow her to pass through fire. Maybe it would be a good idea to walk around with some from now on... just in case.
But for the time being... what was she going to do? Non-verbal extinguishing spell? .... blah that wouldn’t work!
“Aqua Eructo!” A jet stream of water- stronger than her aguamenti charm shot at the fire... but no such luck.
“Glacius!” ... she was really grasping at straws now.
UUUGGGHHH... She rolled her neck, this was frustrating. Maybe she would just turn around.
Oh!! OH!! No der!
“Flame-freezing charm!” she exclaimed, resisting the urge to squeeze her Squiby in a hug.
Directing her wand at the fire once more she performed the charm... now it was a matter of testing it. Letting her Oak wand slide back into her holster, Emily took a step toward the flames. A single finger outstretched... poking it into the fire.
........................... it sort of tickled.
“Thank Merlin!... come on Squiby,” she said directing the dummy out in front of her, a hand still encased in the fire, she too then stepped through.

Confused and admittedly a little scared, Sabel took careful stock of the immediate area, wand gripped tightly in hand. There was no question about it, he was no longer in the ministry, or if he was it was no part of the ministry he had ever seen before. And even with the knowledge that this was a training mission, or test, whichever title was preferred, he couldn't quite banish the cold unease that had the hairs on the back of his neck prickling on end. Though one thing was for sure, a setting like this was less disturbing than one that would have been perfectly structured and pristine. The day a training ground looked like that, he would be seriously worried.
Letting out a slow breath to try and calm himself, Sabel moved cautiously forward, keeping a sharp ear on the creak of the boards and a wary eye on the still and silent statue that stood nearby. Even when he reached up to take the piece of paper, he couldn't take his eyes from the strange thing, unable but to help imagine it suddenly coming into animation and attacking. So it was with that cautious eye he watched the statue while taking chances of reading the paper; the task paper.
Detection. Oh this was going to be brilliant. So running through like a maddened Gryffindor wasn't going to go over wonderfully well. Pity. He was used to doing that. Heaving a sigh, he gave the paper another once over before tucking it safely in his pocket and giving the statue a once over with new understanding.
"So I've got to protect you." Pursing his lips, he stepped up to the black being and gave it a considering frown. "It would help if you were smaller and I could carry you in my pocket. But then I don't suppose shrinking a squib is quite a good idea."
For a good few moments he stood there, debating the squib, listening to the creaks and groans of the unstable building. Finally, with another slow breath released, he popped his wand between his teeth and worked off his sweater. Cold air hit his skin instantly, reminding him to wear a long sleeved shirt next time rather than a simple gray t-shirt. But there was nothing for that now and drawing his wand back into his casting hand, he aimed it at the shirt. It took another good minute to bring his concentration fully to what he was doing, to envisioning the shirt as invisible as possible and with that internal image he muttered a repeated casting of the disillusionment charm. It took a great deal of work to get it remotely decent, but even then it wasn't perfect. He had a long way to go with that spell, which until now he had never really seen a use for.
Putting the wand back between his teeth, he fussed with holding the sweater up, admiring the almost shifting transparent luster that it had been coated with. At least, the lighting was dim in the building and the shadows were multiple: that would help where the spell was weaker.
"Alright buddy, time for a new style of fashion." And what a pain it was to get on the dummy. He really should have put the shirt on first as finding all the right seams was a frustrating task. But finally, it was done and the sleeves were wrapped around as much as the dummy's head as possible, almost like a scarf around the head, just more holey. Still, with a lopsided grin, Sabel took a step back and retrieved his wand as he admired his haphazard handy work. "Now don't you look the charmer?"
With a private chuckle, Sabel returned his attention to the passageway before him. There was no telling what way was best, which floorboards would support both of them or even how the dummy would move, but he had to start somewhere. "If this is the one chance inanimate objects can bear consciousness, let it follow me directly." If not, he'd have to figure out another way. Releasing a slow breath, he cast a silent 'locomotor' spell over his shoulder at the dummy before staring forward gradually, testing the boards, keeping out of the sparse beams of light, each sense straining beyond its normal capacity to try and detect whatever it was that lay in store. And the one thing he was sure of, was that he was going to be dead tired by the end of it all.

Still advancing cautiously, Emily was aware that there was something unknown ahead of her... and she was scared, worried and a little freaked out. But she could see the door, she was getting closer, so... it was only a matter of time until she was face to face with whatever it was. Normally she loved a little confrontation, but this was a little too confronting. She didn’t want to imagine what it could be.
“Almost there Squiby,” she said in a low voice, levitating it forward, behind her.
After placing her hand on the door knob, she froze... all she had to do was open it and... deal with whatever it was that was there. The question mark seriously had her on edge. Taking a deep breath she let herself relax a little... she’d be ok? Wouldn’t she? Oh Merlin make it go away.
“Right... here we go,” she whispered, convincing herself to turn the knob. As she did so, the door creaked back on his hinges. Revealing a dark... dark... dark... dark.., dark room.
“You’re not afraid of the dark are you Squiby?” she asked. Heh.
“Lumos.”
The room wasn’t all bad. It smelled terrible... was that it? Was she supposed to suffocate? Did she need to use a Bubble-head charm?
Emily was contemplating her options as she edged her way into the room slowly, casting her gaze in every direction. There was movement in the shadows. There was movement in the shadows!!!
Emily froze stock still. Putting herself between whatever it was and the Squib. She was determined not to let anything happen to it. Determined!
Her eyes grew wide like saucers as she began to make out the figure that came out from the shadows, the dim, flickering light in the room reflected off its many eyes. Many eyes?
Oh Merlin!
Emily felt sick in her stomach, she could feel her muscles tense up in fear. This was not supposed to happen, this was not the way it was supposed to play out. This was not supposed to be here! Holding her wand a little higher- trying to appear threatening in some way- she faced the monster before her. Monster... yep that was one way of putting it.
But the question was... was it real? Or was it a Boggart? Thinking up an amusing image in her mind, she flicked her wand in the direction of the beast.
“Riddikulus!”
... no effect. This was most certainly not a boggart. Cringe.
Who in their right minds would use a large- VERY large at that- spider or... an .. *swallow* Acromantula to guard or protect a building. Oh of course... psychos that made perfect sense.
It clicked its pincers at her. Click.... click... click... and edged a little closer.
She moved toward it, WHY?, she didn’t want to... but her legs had a mind of their own. She wasn’t thinking coherently, in fact she wasn’t really thinking at all. She was numb, and cold, and numb. Before she could react the large spider lunged at her with its eight legs flailing out of control.
“AAaarrrgghhh”, she screamed, finally finding her voice. She was wrestled to the floor, the hairy, spiky, horribly stiff and yet... not very heavy spider sitting on her stomach. If you could call it sitting. Its eyes bore down into the cold pit of her soul. Was she going to pass out? Was this the end of the training activity? The horrible beasts pincers caught her around her wrist, where it seemed to cut into her, stinging and bleeding. Merlin! She was going to die down here!
Trying to think of something, to muster up some courage she flailed with her left hand, and managed to punch it in one of its eyes. It recoiled in pain. AHA! Take that you filthy beast with too many eyes and legs! She punched it again. It released her right hand and with a fluid motion she pushed it off her and scrambled backward, still on the floor. She only hoped she had enough strength to get up. Emily was still in shock, she was pale white and ice cold... her hand was shaking and despite her wound she couldn’t feel the pain. The spider lunged at her again, its pincers securing a grip on her leg.
“Stupefy!” she yelled sending a red flash of light at the beast. It was sent flying backward, ripping at her black jeans in the process, leaving yet another bloody gash on her body. Son of a Freaking Banshee!!!
It only took a few more seconds and the spider founds its way back onto its legs... ugh, would it ever quit.
Fearing not only for her life, but also for the safety of her squib Emily braced herself and cast her favourite spell... or at least it was her favourite in this instance. It was probably the best one she had learned in all her time at Hogwarts.
“Arania Exumai!”
Emily watched as the blinding white light hit the spider right on its head. Kill Shot. Or so she hoped. After a few seconds passed, and nothing happened, Emily relaxed. Then a minute passed... and another, yet she was still sitting on the floor. Looking over her shoulder she sighed in relief as Squiby was standinglevitating there, perfectly fine and unharmed. Coming to her senses Emily suddenly realised she had been hurt, she looked at the bloody mess that was her right hand and her right leg, just below the knee. It wasn’t overly painful, though she was still in shock so that probably had something to do with her lack of sensations. Feeling her pockets, Emily pulled out the bottle of Essence of Dittany she had with her. Good thing too, she didn’t want to lose too much blood. Examining her wounds before apply the dropper, she was relieved to see that the spiders fangs hadn’t made contact with her skin, so she hadn’t been poisoned... just cut up. Easily fixed.
Replacing the almost empty bottle back into her pocket Emily hauled herself up off the floor. She wasn’t happy... this was a horrible task. Did they not read her file? Did they not know that her boggart was a spider... a spider in general not necessarily a friggin Acromantula! Then again... it was a training activity, and a spider should be the least of her worries as an Auror. Plus on the bright side it wasn’t a mature Acromantula... despite its size.
“Ok Squiby... I’m ready,” she said sticking close to its side. She shined her wand around the room... and the dead spider. That was it... now she could move onto the next thing. Joy.
Though... to be on the safe side, in case there were more Actromantulas, perhaps it was best to be unseen. Casting a disillusionment charm on herself and her Squiby, she held onto its hand- so she knew where it was... and continued through the room to the opposite door. She’d survived, though her struggles were evident even if her wounds were gone.
She didn’t know what was coming up... all she knew was that on the map it looked as though she would be getting wet. What harm could water do? It wasn’t acid water? Or poisoned water was it?
Meh...
She continued down the hall heading toward the north end of the building- to the way out. She wanted to get out!
Emily heard the sloshing of water, and the distinct sound of a waterfall... why hadn’t she heard it before? Rounding the corner, she saw that it was EXACTLY that... a waterfall. It was a curious water, it shimmered like diamonds, magical... and she couldn’t see where the water was coming from... nor where it was going. In fact it seemed to just disappear through the solid floor. This was bad... surely it was bad.
Proceeding cautiously Emily extended her hand into the water, wand in mouth. BAH!! She became visible again!!
“It washes away enchantments?” she questioned looking at where Squiby was standing. Well it could be worse. Deciding to test it out more, she dropped Squiby’s hand and moved under the water, Merlin it was cold! It was like rain, only heavier, much heavier. It beat her body around. But it was safe. So levitating Squiby she made her way out to the other side of the waterfall.
“That wasn’t too bad,” she said turning to where Squiby should have been.
BAH!! Where was it?!
She looked past the wall of water... it was stuck on the other side, laying motionless on the floor, visible. She hit her forehead with her palm. Magic was washed away- no disillusionment charm and no locomotor... that explained it. After running back into the heavy wall of water she grabbed her Squiby round the middle and dragged it out to safety. In a real life situation the Squib would have walked right? So it wouldn’t have drowned in a puddle like her dummy?
Oh poop.
After drying herself off she cast Locomotor on the Squiby again and pulled out the map, they should continue... they didn’t have far to go now.

She hovered in the doorway and debated the best way to proceed. Fast and dirty always seemed best, but she was likely to get really hurt. And if Frank the Dummy Squib didn't make it out the other side because he was so combustible, then she would fail. So magic was the better way to go, and the longer she stood here, the longer she'd have to wait until she was finished.
She juggled Frank to get her wand trained on the flames, and then Cade cast the Flame Freezing Charm. It looked just the same, in spite of her spell, and it took a huge leap of faith to step from the door and into the flames. The fire felt like a warm tickle against her skin, and it took concentration to keep moving through the hallway. In spite of the spell, it wasn't until Caedwyn hit the door and felt cool night air against her face that she felt truly safe.
Safe.
Now she could go check on her kettle.

But at the same time she didn't want to face anything at all... hadn't she already been through enough?
It's training, it was never going to be easy, she reminded herself. She felt a bit sorry for her Squiby, she'd dropped it- so to speak, though it wouldn't have hurt much... and then there was the whole drowning ordeal. But that wasn't too bad, was it?
"Right, almost there," she said trying to sound as optimistic as she could. She'd get there wouldn't she? It couldn't be all that difficult could it? ..
Feeling incredibly nervous, Emily proceeded, wand at the ready with Squiby trailing behind her.
It wasn't long until she came across the anti-gravity enchantment, and she crossed it with more finesse than the last time. Squiby's face didn't hit the floor this time, though hers still did... whoops. Wanting to rush through the activity as quickly as possible now- seeing as she was so close to the end, Emily stunned the Devil's Snare with another blast of warm light, but instead of finishing it off she ran past- Squiby in tow, and made it to another door. She opted to take this route as opposed to dealing with more fire... partly because she was curious as to what the question mark on the map was, and also partly because she wanted to encounter the Caterwauling Enchantment.
Not wanting to waste too much time standing around in the corridor Emily turned the doorknob and entered the room, lighting it with her wand.
Even though she had been expecting it, it still came to her as quite a shock as a loud wailing alarm sounded. "Crap!!" A part of her had hoped that she wouldn't trip it... but that was never going to happen was it?
First thing first, Emily cast the glow from her wand around the room. Yes yes the Caterwauling Enchantment would have alerted a bazillion armed evil wizard people of her presence. But even if she stopped it now, they would still know she was there and be on their way, so right now, the thing that mattered most... was the question mark!
Edging a little further into the room, looking all around her, half expecting someone to jump out at her now that she'd set of that blasted alarm! But to Emily's surprise there wasn't anything here... except for a pile of old newspapers and a few overflowing trashcans. Trashcans?
Huh?
She approached them, even though her gut told her not to. She knew they were charmed... but with what? Emily took another step forward, wand targeting the cans in case they decided to launch themselves at her. Because really... what else could trashcans do?
Emily hadn’t been expecting it, it was the furthest thought from her mind, but as soon as she had taken that small step the trashcans sprang to life, the lids clanking loudly, and thrashing about on the spot. What in the name of Merlin!
“Sssshhhhhh,” responded Emily, though really she knew that wouldn’t have any effect,
It was only when the trashcans started spewing rubbish that she figured she had to put a stop to it somehow. “Reducto!”
... Nope... that didn’t work. The trashcans- now dented and a little scorched, had toppled over, spilling their contents across the floor, the lids clattered loudly as they continued to clamber around, inching toward her and Squiby. The noise reverberated off the walls, driving Emily mildly insane. She hated that noise... aarrgghh!!
“Finite,” she cried casting the spell in its direction.
It stopped.
“Thank Merlin for that,” she muttered, still not entirely understanding what the point of it had been. She exchanged a look with Squiby, he seemed to be the strong silent type and he was handling the situation far better than she was.
The wailing of the Caterwauling Charm was still going... and it was giving her a headache. But feeling suddenly on edge, Emily didn't stop to turn it off. If anything it would cover the sound of her footfall's and she got the hell out of there. She didn't particularly want to stick around... the last thing she wanted was to be surprised by an angry Damien chasing after her. No the best thing she could do was get out of there and keep moving. Standing around and stopping it would only waste time.
Running out of the opposite door from where she had come from, Emily found herself in another dimly lit corridor. But there... there... it was there! The way out! the final door! Merlin she couldn't wait to reach it!
Proceeding cautiously, bringing Squiby in closer to her, she led the way. One small step after the next... but she was still hurrying... sort of.
THWACK!
BAH! What in the name of Merlin's spotty underwear was this?!
She tried to move forward again.
THWACK!
A barrier? A barrier of some sort of invisible proportions was blocking her way?! What was this? Why?!
"Finite!" ... right.. that would have worked, for sure.
THWACK!
"Alright, this isn't funny.... Finite Incantatum."
THWACK....
Emily was not happy now. She did not like being THWACKED in the face multiple times whilst trying to pass through some ridiculous, stupid, invisible, frustrating barrier! Nope.. this was not on. She was losing her patience now. Ok that wasn't quite true, she'd already lost it.
"Diffindo!"
"Reducto!"
.......................... cracks were forming? Really?
"Confringo!"
"Bombarda Maxima!"
After giving it everything she had... and relieving her stress a bit, Emily shattered the force field. Not bothering to levitate Squiby any further she grabbed it around the middle and ran, just flat out ran for the door...
And that was it... was that really it? She was through? Finally at the end of the horrendously bad training activity?
She would have failed dismally in a real life situation. The baddies would have been all over her with all that time she wasted. Ugh.... doomed.
But it was an enlightening experience, and at least now she knew how hard she had to work to get up to scratch. This was a good thing...
A good thing.
Reaching the door, she opened it, relieved she was finally DONE!
She was bruised and batterd with cuts and scrapes... but she was alive. And it was a relief.

She knew she would have to deal until she could figure out how to get more light.
She started to levatate Little It keeping her senses to the highest possible...She continued walking looking around every few minutes. Levatating Little It in front of her, she stopped for a second feeling like she was being watched...She ran throught the magical and muggle protections in her head, there was a cave inimicum, Caterwauling Charm, and one more for the magical and the muggle protections were the three headed dog and one more...She had to find them...
She continued walking hearing a gorwling sound coming from behind her she quickly turned around not seeing anything she turned to see a troll, she looked up smelling the aroma coming from its mouth, she covered her mouth with her free hand the smell inatoxicated her...She got used to it once it slammed its club down onto the wall nearest to him, she saw a ST on it, which meant Security Troll...She found the final muggle protection...It had to be guarding something, maybe a door? She gently levatated down Little It onto the floor in a corner and wondered how do you knock out a Troll...Especially a Security Troll, the smartest of the trolls...Well there was the club. She yelled Impedimenta as the troll was about to slam down his club. She thought Wingardium Leviosa Swishing and then flicking she let it drop on the trolls head. She laughed in her head Didnt Harry Potter do that to a troll once too...
She walked back over to Little It and continued to levatate it once again but this time keeping it next to her but a little behind her you never really knew what could happen...
SMACK!!!!
She fell onto the floor catching Little It just in time...She stood up and rubbed her arms and legs, ugh that hurt she put Little It onto the floor, and put her hands up there wasnt a wall, so what could there have been...A Barrier! It had to be blocking the way out but how do you get through a barrier, can you break it? She said Revelio. And a light green light appeared in front of her it looked like it went on forever.
She knew that Finite wouldnt work. Why did the final magical protection have to be a barrier?? Of all things they had to choose a barrier couldnt it have been a spell that could be reversed? She started to fly spells at the barrier she said Reducto She saw that it didnt do anything she groaned and fell to the floor. She noticed that the barrier didnt go all the way to the floor, Prefect she muttered and went and stood up and said to Little It Get ready to slide across the floor
She pulled it over and pushed it under sliding it under with her arms, she felt her arm touched the barrier. She quickly put her hand on her arm, it felt like she had just been cut but she hadnt...She looked under the barrier smiling the squib got under without getting hurt yes she slide under making sure she didnt get burned and put her hands up and felt what seemed like a wall and moved her hands from side to side and up and down trying to feel if anything was there, as it was still a dark since the only light was the barrier which wasnt very much, she felt her hands come on something very cold. She turned it hoping it turned and it did. She opened the door hoping this was the end she had already gotten hurt but at least Little It was okay she levatated it to make sure that nothing had happened to it. She looked down at herself she was a mess she didnt even wanna think on how her hair looked but then again she didnt care she was just happy to finally be down with that Monstertastic Training Activity. She stopped levatating Little It after she had set it on the ground. She picked up its arm and high fived it.

Wesley led the way in from the conference room and paused in the center of the arena, which was (for now) simply appearing as a plain, round room with a door on the far wall behind him. He banished his file folders back to his office, having already memorized what was in them, and pulled out a pocket notebook and Muggle pen that looked tiny in his hand.
Wes tapped the pen on the notebook, not so patiently waiting for his employees to assemble. Once they were gathered, he'd continue.

Kryspin followed his new boss into the training room with a grin on his face. He was always up for learning new things and this was exciting him... hehe. He stood up straight - in his ready for anything pose - and waited for the training to begin, tapping the fingers of his right hand on his left forearm out of habit.
Yvonne followed the boss and department head into the training room. Her fingers were already anxious to wrap around her wand and get training. Back at Wicker Institute they held training sessions every day, but she expected the ones at the Ministry to be a lot more challenging.
She stepped into the training room and stood next to Krys. She wasn't following him it was just that he'd serve as a great shield.

One turn in one direction, a short time down a hallway and another turn another way and they were at the door to the training room. Simon followed Jax quietly though it wasn't as if he would get lost getting there and for the newbies there was a map...sorta. He entered along inside the room and stood off to one side with his arms loosely crossed, the YATI silently awaiting the actual activity to take place now that they had moved locations.

Having no idea where the best place to stand was once in the training room, Jaxton decided that standing behind Wesley, facing the staff was probably one of his best options. Silently, he looked around at the other Division Heads and wondered if they would accept him as one of them... After all - they had all started this planning when Izzy had been around. It wasn't the time to think of that though.
He rolled his head, shook his shoulders a little and rested my hand on top of his wand so that he was ready for whatever came his way.

Now that the meet and greet was over, Dorian had followed Wes as he'd headed toward the training room. That was really what that meeting had turned out to be, even if it was now blending into the training they'd all discussed a while before the new hirings. It was also before Isobel had left MLE, but he was going to assume that Wes had informed Jaxton about the idea behind the training. If not the rest, but then he'd not talked to the new head auror much before now. He figured it wasn't his place to let him know the plans now, especially as he took his place near the department head as well. They were assisting in the training, so it made more sense to have them all in one area and the rest of the dpeartment gathered facing them.
They seemed to be waiting for everyone to arrive, though, and he pushed his sleeves up a bit more as he watched the pen tapping the notebook. If they'd been anywhere other than MLE, he'd have suggested Wes cut back on the caffeine, even if that would have been slightly hypocritical. As it was, he understood the impatience. Everyone should move quickly, if things were going to get done. That was just common sense, and he hoped at least the MLEers who had been around during the cult incidents would at least have learned that.

"Are you ready for this?" Cade took a spot near Jaxton and Dorian and eyed the others as they entered the room. Hopefully, Wes would take the lead and get things started on a high note. Aron strut his way after everyone else, hands in his pockets and chest slightly puffed out, and sort of just waited to see what was going to happen. Training, huh? Aron had to wonder what sort of training this would entail since he was usually stuck in a lap hunched over and beads of sweat running down the bridge of his nose as he attempted to perform detailed analysis on the strange concoction of the day.
He then caught a glimpse of the Head Cabbage's super snazzy pocket notebook. Hey, where could he get one of those?

Following everyone else into the room, Roxanne found herself a spot to stand and waited for instructions. She was ready to get started, knowing that the sooner they got started, the sooner they'd be done. As they were waiting, she wondered what exactly would be awaiting them through the course of their training. It wasn't going to be easy, that was for sure. In fact, it'd probably be one of the harder things she'd done in her life. But she was ready for whatever would thrown her way.

Kensi poked her head into the training area first, just to be ABSOLUTELY SURE that she was in the right place...it was simply HUGE in this place! And Kensi wasn't very good at directions...though, this had been quite simple, due to the fact that she had followed the people from the conference room INTO this room...but one could never be TOO sure..
The new MLEer awkwardly stood around the others, not knowing anyone, nervousness bubbling in her tummy. Don't be nervous...don't be nervous...DON'T BE NERVOUS!!! she yelled to herself in her head, but on the outside she tried to appear confident. She didn't quite know if it was working...First day on the job, and they were already doing exciting things?! Kensi liked it and all...it made her adrenaline SKYROCKET. And she liked it. But that didn't mean she couldn't be nervous..RIIIIGHT?! Right.
So the redhead tried to distract herself by watching everyone...hopefully no one thought her creepy. But people watching was always fun...

Emily was EXCITED! Super excited even. SO excited that she was mentally prepared for almost anything. Look alive Browne, she thought to herself.
As they gathered in the training arena, Emily noticed that it looked different to the last time she had stepped foot in here. What were they going to do in a room like this? Duel? ... Team take-downs? ...
Standing a little to the side, but closer to the front, Emily watched and waited patiently. She flexed her fingers, ready to summon her wand from its holster at any second.
He had missed the darn meeting. Brilliant way to start with the new boss. Still, at least Wesley knew the reason he was late so hopefully wouldn't mind much. Gabe could always gather his own new employee's in the office for a mini meet and greet.
Right now though, he was on his way from the empty conference room, which he'd popped his head into for a second, to the training room. Good thing he knew what was going on and wasn't as out of the loop as the ones doing the training.
Slipping inside, Gabriel made his way over to the assembled group and stood next to Jaxton, giving Wes and everyone else a nod of greeting and a mouthed "Sorry I'm late!"

As he was following the others to the Training Room, Josh Carter did not know how he was feeling about all of this training-competition stuff. The 'training' part of this was surely not making him feel excited for as a YATI he had frequently been under training. Oooor more like he was under training all the time. That was was he was called a trainee. But the 'competition' part, it definitely sounded interesting. So as he finally walked in the rather empty looking place, other than all the MLE people in it, he had decided that he was curious.
And interested. No doubt.
Giving everyone in sight a slight nod or a smile, Joshua walked forward and stood beside Emily without saying a thing. Then, hands in pockets, he curiously eyed the boss people in the room.

Benjy made his way into the training arena, staying close to the rest of the group. Never a good idea to get lost or be late on your first day... As he entered the room, he made his way over to stand near Krys, one of the only people he personally knew in the whole room. Maybe they could be partners... if it was needed. They were all so quiet. It was unusual, but appreciated, as the silence would make the training go that much faster.
"Now that you've assembled," Wes flicked his eyes around the crowd once and stopped tapping his pen, "I'll start. I'm going to be teaching you a little about wandless combat today since sometimes, even the best DMLE employees find themselves... unarmed." He boldly unstrapped his wand from its wrist holster (after making the holster visible, of course) and tossed the whole schabang to Jax.
Hopefully he'd catch it.
"Play along with me here for a second. Picture yourself unarmed, facing a threat, and all you currently have to fight back with is yourself and the contents of your pocket." Wes held up his snazzy blue notebook now, rotating it slightly so it'd catch their eyes. "How could one use this here notebook and simple pen in self defense?"

Lights glanced around nervously, and after realising that nobody was going to outwardly bite her head off if she answered first, raised her hand, feeling like a schoolgirl again. "You could use the paper as a distraction," she suggested. "Tear the pages out quickly then throw them in the air, distracting your opponent while you either make a run for it or confronted them. The pen could be used to jab them in the eyes or throat - you can kill a person with the pointy end of a biro."
Yeah, just to make her office companions nervous every time she played with her pens ...

Emily STARED at her New Boss Man while he spoke, aware that Josh had been brave enough to stand with her. Kudos. Now where were the OTHER YATI's? Did they get lost already?
Listening to EVERY single word Wes spoke, she nodded. Her fingers stopped flexing, and her wand was forgotten... for the time being.
Eyeing the pad and pen, Emily smirked. She knew what SHE would do with it. Stick it where the sun don't shine.
It was strangely quiet in the room, did nobody want to talk? Where they scared of failure? Or just LAZY?
Emily eyed the Lights girl offer a suggestion... personally a few loose pages wafting in her direction wouldn't stop her. But meh. At least it WAS a response.
"Pens aren't particularly sharp, but with enough force, and at the right angles, they can do a fair bit of damage ... particularly if you hit the carotid artery... in the neck." For specification in case people weren't aware of their own bodies. "Generally speaking, you won't do much damage, but enough to distract your opponent so you can think of your next move."

Roxanne was slightly afraid of the first thought that sprung to her mind while stareing at the pen and notepad. But then Lights and Emily expressed basically the same thought. "Yeah, if you stab someone anywhere with that pen, it gives you time to get away."Real original there, Carter. Parroting your coworkers' answers. Maybe she should have had some more of that coffee back in the confrence room...

James stood at the back of the Group silent. He listened to what The Big guy said until he finished. He thought about the question but was to late. Not caring a single bit he said''What they said.''And smiled.Anyone up the front probably would've thought it was mouse learning to speak.

Unarmed. Facing a threat that was well armed probably with a nice wand. And he had this pen and notebook with him.
''Well...i would not call myself unarmed then.'' the YATI said with a confident smile. He could not help but smile at those who was talking about using the pen as a weapon. That was sharp. But of course, Josh Carter had his own way which he believed to be more effective.
''As most of my friends have mentioned, boss man, they both - the notebook and pen- would make a nice distraction. I would throw them at the man's face.'' Whoever he was. ''That would be enough to distract him and give me enough time to close the gap between us. If i manage to be quick enough and can evaluate the opportunity well enough to get the man in close combat, i would finish him with a few punches.''
Yes, that was the Josh Carter style, man!!
And physical combat was always more satisfying than using magic.
''Of course while doing that you should leave no time for the man to use magic before you get him. Get rid of the wand at the hand by force first and the threat is all yours.''
That was why he still worked out every day.

That would not happen to him. Why? Because why in the world would Legend Chosen have a notebook and pen in his pocket? He didn't even take notes while in school so why would he now when he was out of it?
Walking up from the back closer to the group, Legend kind of made his way to Emily and Josh. Not so that he was right beside them, since they didn't seem to WANT his presence. Yet he sort of was because that was because they weren't important enough to choose if they wanted him around or not.
Of course Emily would say something...violent.
But people were actually agreeing?
What Josh said seemed to stick with him more.
"I mean, I think it would make a great distraction like what Josh said." But not exactly. "See, you'd make a bluff." Legend nodded. "You could like angle the pen in your pocket like you were taking out a back up wand right? So then they would be looking at your pocket, And at the same time you could take the notebook out of the other pocket and throw it in the air as if it were some kind of spell. Obviously it wouldn't be, but it would be enough to grab the opponents attention for a split second. Then BAM you attack, tackle the dude and take his wand, then its all over." You know, because once you had a wand and the other guy didn't he had no chance.
Unless he had a notebook and a pen too....oh man.

Aubrie wasn't used to using a pen and notebook as weapons, but she figured it would be good to learn how to use something for self-defense other than her wand. This training would be good for her. She stared at the notebook and pen trying to think of something that hadn't been said already.
So people had mentioned distractions and pen could be used to stab someone. What else was there? "Well I agree with everyone else. Pens can be used to stab someone, not necessarily to kill, but it could injure a person. You could also dismantle the notebook and use the spirals to hurt possibly and the paper could be used to make them slip and fall, maybe. Then you could also come to hand-to-hand combat." Aubrie stated. You could always kick them in the face. "If everyone knew how to kick and punch. That could be used to seriously injure." Though she wasn't sure if all wizards learned how to use their body as a weapon.
