Patents Research Laboratory

http://i734.photobucket.com/albums/w...w/research.jpg

This part of the department isn't an office; it was a working laboratory for the Patents Research Lab employees. Upon entrance, you will see employees working with inventions. They are there to examine new inventions made by Witches and Warlocks. If one of these inventions contain anything not permitted by the Ministry, then these employees keep an eye on these. Handle with proper care and observe safety precautions and measures. In short, keep your mind straight and focus.

Ryan walked into the Lab he had no idea what he was suppost to do first, but well maybe someone else would come and tell him soon, he looked around the Lab, there were loads of great things in the room, but Ryan wasn't going to touch anything until he knew what he should touch, he didn't want to cause a mess on his first day, He was hoping that someone would come and tell him what he had to do.

Wandering around the floor, Adam finally came across the door marked 'Patents Research Laboratory' and sighed in relief. He was late for work already, and he didn't want to mess up any further by having to ask for directions to his own workplace - that would have been embarrassing. Running a hand through his hair, he placed the folders that had been tucked under his arm onto the nearest tabletop and read the memo on the sheet on top of the stack. Camouflage Brooms and Flying Sneakers? Sounded like fun!

As he looked up, he saw that the room was occupied by one other, and Adam smiled at said man. "Hey," he managed to say, holding out a hand. "I'm Adam Stemp. I guess we're working together, huh?"

Ryan had been looking at the memo and hadn't heard the man walked in, so when he talked Ryan nearly jumped out of his skin but he just shook hands with the man and smiled. "Nice to meet you Adam, I'm Ryan Smith." He had just stopped looking at the memo. "I guess we are."

Ryan looked at Adam and then at the work they had too do. "I guess we should get started." Ryan had no idea which too start with. "I don't know which to start with first the Camouflage broom or the Flying sneakers."

Harron Peasley 06-03-2011 08:33 PM

"Sorry if I made you jump, Ryan," Adam said sheepishly, returning the hand shake before running a hand through hair as he realised that his sudden speech had probably startled him - considering the fact that the Lab had been empty apart from him. He followed the other guys gaze to the memo, and then pulled out the folders with all of the product information out from underneath it.

Shrugging his agreement, Adam realised that he didn't know what to start with either. "Shall we start with the Broomsticks?" he said slowly, eyes still on the memo. It seemed logical, as it was written first, but Ad didn't mind. They both seemed as interesting as the next.. except for the fact that he hated flying.

Ryan looked at Adam and smiled. "It's okay, it was my fault really I wasn't thinking, you should always know what's around you, just incase and I was too busy thinking about where this broom that no one can find is." Ryan laughed, he had always been taught that keeping an eye on your surrounding was the best way too stay alive.

Ryan smiled as he read the memo well it was the first thing on the list and so it did make sence. "Yeah I think that would be the best thing too do." Ryan went over too a broom and pick it up. "So the Camouflage broom needed to be tested." Ryan looked at the room he didn't see where he could fly it. "Should we see if it works? And see if we can keep an eye on this one we don't want it going missing like the last one." Ryan looked at Adam. "What do you think?"

Grinning a little, Adam surveyed the office around him, as if waiting for a sign to appear and indicate the location of the missing Broomstick. It didn't, however, and Adam shrugged. "I guess at some point we will come across it," he said with a smile. "Although when, I'm not too sure." Personally, the thought of being on a broom made him shudder, so the longer it stayed 'camouflaged', the better.

Unless he tripped over it.

But back to the task at hand. Which, coincidentally, was the non-elusive flying brooms, yet to be thouroughly tested. "Well, the ceiling's high," he pondered, glancing up. "So I guess if you wanted to test it's flying abilities, we could - although we'd have to be careful." At least, Ryan would - part of Ad hoped that he didn't mind flying, so that he himself wouldn't have to get on the broom. Pulling his wand out of his holster, he flicked it, and from one of the many shelves came soaring a length of thick, bright red string. "If we tie this around the broom," he explained, proceeding to do so, "We shouldn't lose it." At least, he hoped - did the way the broom camouflaged effect objects touching it?

It was time to see what everyone was up to. Usually, he started with Quidditch and finished up with the lab, but today Rex decided to mix things up. He walked past the Coffee Cart and Game Room without stopping to chat with anyone.

Then he arrived at the lab. Without knocking, Rex opened the door and walked in. The door closed behind him. "What's the status on the brooms?" Vindictus asked.

Weasley174 07-19-2011 11:56 PM

Sorry kay was ill then had problems with my laptop. :(

Ryan looked up and saw the boss. "We were just about to test it, if you want to stay and watch." He took the broom in his hand. "We are going to see if when the broom Camouflages itself if the string is affected or not." Ryan smiled at Rex and Adam. "That way if it isn't affected we at least know where the broom is at all times and that should mean we won't lose it." Ryan looked at Rex and waited to see if he wanted to ask anymore questions before they started.

demented_death_eater 07-29-2011 03:05 AM

"Let me know how it goes," Rex replied as he opened the door. "And try not to hurt a few of your colleagues who need to use one of the testing rooms - they need to test a few Quaffles."

ArianaBlack 08-02-2011 04:19 AM

Blake walked into the laboratory with the box of quaffles in his hands. So this was going to be fun. He saw a few of his fellow colleagues working on some things and said a quick hello. "'Lo. I'm going to be working in one of the testing rooms if that's alright." He smiled as he made his way to one of the empty testing rooms. He quickly ripped the box open and placed the four different quaffles in front of him. They were are relatively the same size, but the appearance was quite different. Sure enough just like Rex had said they were all made out of different material.

He held up the first quaffle in his hand and tossed it up into the air and caught it when it came down. It felt pretty heavy compared to most quaffles he's worked with in the past and he was a chaser so that's saying something. Just like Rex had instructed he began to toss it some more and threw it around. Everything seemed okay except for the weight. Then he threw it at the wall and watched it come back towards him. Now to jump on it.

It wasn't an easy task, jumping on a ball, but he managed to do it and stay in one peice. He didn't slip off which meant that it wasn't too slippery. The grip felt good when he was throwing it around. Now to write down all of the results before moving on to the next quaffle. One down three more to go.

Quote:

Results

-- First Quaffle: Everything seems to be alright. The ball is not slippery and is easy to grip. The only problematic issue may be that it is a bit on the heavy side. The material used is heavier than it should be.
Now to move on to the second ball. This one looked nice and didn't feel heavy at all when he picked it up. Although when he tried to hold it in one hand it slowly started slipping until it fell. The ball felt a bit too smooth and that is never good. Although he immediately found these flaws he did as instructed and threw it around a bit. The ball proved to be very hard to catch because it would just ball out of his hands when he tried to catch it. Then he threw it at the wall and it seemed to be normal then. Now the one last bit is to jump on it and--

OW. Note to self, next time don't fall. Blake massaged his neck as he gave the ball an angry look. "Stupid quaffle." His feet just slipped right off it. He's talking to a ball... Blake was sure the fall had done something to his head at this point. Shaking it off he looked at his empty peice of parchment and wrote:

--Second Quaffle: This one was way too slippery. I had a very hard time trying to grip it and when I jumped on it I slid right off. It was also a bit too smooth. I figure if the texture can be fixed and a stronger gripping charm can be placed on it then maybe this one will be useable in the future.
Blake quickly put the second quaffle in the corner and gave one last dirty look before moving on to the next quaffle. He threw this one in the air again and sighed after a few times. The texture wasn't too smooth or too rough. It was easy to grip and the weight wasn't shifty at all. He threw it at the wall and nodded his head satisfied when it came back. After jumping on it he decided that this one was his favorite and that he was going to name it Phill. "I'm not going to put you in that corner with the rest of the awful Quaffles Phill. You are special and my officially favorite out of the three I've tested."

-- Third Quaffle: I don't see any problems with this ball. It's easy to grip and it's not slippery at all. It's nice and strong. It's also real easy to catch and keep a hold of. I think this material works really well and is very suitable for the ball.
With his new contentment after that last ball Blake walked over and picked up the next one happily. Although this one was made out of a different material the third quaffle looked pretty similar in appearance. Blake felt this was another lucky one. He tossed it back and forth from his left hand to his right and raised an eyebrow. It was a bit too rough of a texture. Then he also realized it was a bit too light. Quite the opposite from the first Quaffle. He continued to throw it around and hit it against the wall a few times before jumping on it.

-- Fourth Quaffle: This one is very rigid and rough. I think the texture is a bit too rough. Also the ball is too light and will have a hard time traveling through the air, trying to keep up with player's speed.
He packed the balls back into the box and walked out of the testing room. He waved again to his colleagues and made his way back to his own cubicle.

Adam looked up and nodded to his boss as he walked in. He turned to Ryan as he began to talk and nodded again in confirmation. "Even if the string is camouflaged along with the broom, I'll keep hold of it and will be able to therefore find the broom again," he added, finishing tying the thick strand to the wooden handle. "Ryan, you're alright to ride it, right?" Because otherwise Adam didn't mind getting on and flying... they just had to be wary of a few accidents.

"Okay, we'll be careful," Adam nodded with a smile, waving his wand and causing the desks and apparatus to move to line the walls of the testing room as Rex left, and just as Blake, the man whom he'd met at the Refreshments cart. "Alright," he said cheerily.

Ryan looked at Adam. "Right I think we are ready." He smiled and was just about to try the broom when he thought of something. "Who should ride it?" He had forgotten to see if Adam wanted a go. "I think we both should that way we can see if the same thing happens, I can go first then you can have ago and see if anything different happens.

Fiske walked into the lab getting ready to test some camoflage brooms. He loved working in the patents office you never know what you are going to find in the office be tested or what could happen with all of this being magical inventions. He sees that there is one broom missing and makes a mental note to watch his step. Fiske also noticed that flying sneakers needed to be tested as well. He immediatly got to work.

Nodding as Ryan confirmed his own though - they were indeed ready to test the broom - Adam reached over onto one of the desks he'd moved to the walls and pulled out some parchment and a Quill.

Camouflage Brooms
He scrawled at the top, before turning his attention back to the other guy. "Both... yeah, sounds good to me," he said, swallowing a gulp; this was his job, he was going to have to deal. Hey, maybe Lorelai would be proud. "You want to go first? We need to see how it works - I think it's activated by a tap on the handle, with a wand, of course. We can see if it affects the rider or anything else in connection with it -" here he tugged a little on the thick string. "- and even if it does, I'll keep hold of this so we always know where it is. I think the problem seems to be with deactivating it. That's why the other brooms haven't.. well, they haven't been found." He ran a nervous hand through his hair, hoping that what he'd said sounded right to Ryan.

Turning a little as he sensed someone else enter the room, Adam's fingers fumbled over the string a little. He managed to catch it before he dropped it, and managed a dodgy half-wave at the other guy. "Hey, are you here to work on the 'Brooms and 'Sneakers?" he asked - otherwise he could be like Blake, and be testing something else. If he was there to work with them, though, Adam hoped he's managed to catch what he and Ryan had been talking about. He wouldn't have minded explaining again, but it was a bit unnerving.

This lack of confidence was.. odd. What was work doing to him?

demented_death_eater 10-27-2011 01:44 AM

A memo in the shape of a paper airplane zoomed into the laboratory and immediately multiplied into several fliers that landed neatly in front of each employee.

Some people believe
that M.O.M stands for
"Ministry of Morons"

It DOES as long as its led by
the insufferable oaf Berty Borr
who styles himself as a lord!

It's time to remove the huge wart that
is giving our Ministry a bad name.

Join the cause today!

REMOVE BORR!

A light blue memo in the shape of a paper airplane zoomed into the laboratory and unfolded itself for everyone to read. But this was no regular Ministry memo; as soon as the memo was fully unfolded, the voice of Rex Vindictus echoed through the room:

Surprisingly, Adam was completely clean on the first day back at work.

Clutching the coffee he'd picked up on his way past the refreshment cart, he shoulder the door to the laboratory open with his shoulder, contemplating the lack of some sort of food substance disgracing his person. No doubt it would happen later in the week, but it was nice, for once.

Not that he minded that much, per say. He loved his kids more than anything, except for maybe his wife, but still... it was going to take more than six of them to get him used to being used as a cleaning cloth.

He was focused on work, now though, wondering if either of the new employees would be joining him, and wondering what kind of things he'd be testing for sale at the QWC.
