He turned back to her too and nodded. "Thank you. I'm looking forward to all of the... challenges that come along with the job." Van had certainly left him in good hands, and with good leaders to work with too. "Thanks again for the warm welcome."

Wes tucked his hands into his pockets and looked back to the door to see who else was coming in and who all was leaving. He thought he heard a knock at the door, which said something, considering that the volume level in the room sure was louder than usual, and raised a brow at the Undersecretary.

"Was there anything else you needed, Vicky--- er, Victoria?" Because he probably should get back to work now.

Well, introductions were always one of Ben Amsten's many... many... many specialties. Unfortunately, Benjamin was at the disadvantage of already being familiar and friendly with his new head. This means he couldn't make his first impression of himself to be ten times better than he actually was. Ah well. The Director of the MMAO has to be briefed on what's new.

Ben was in his full suit and tie, like always. But instead of going to his desk, Ben decided to visit the new head first. So the New Yorker was also wearing his Fedora and carrying his briefcase. Ben knocked on the door.

Aha, so there WAS a knock at the door! Wes slipped through the crowd rather easily and wrenched it open, beckoning his division head inside. "Come on, Ben," he stepped aside. "It's Van's... going away party." Sure. For the next five minutes it was, anyway.

"I'm gonna get while the getting is good. I'll be sure to pop in, and you lot know how to reach me. Perhaps shrunken-head bowling and a few drinks might be in order? Lily's expecting me though. And she has food. And I like food."

So. Grunt.

"So long, for now." He was proud of them all. If they couldn't pick that up from his grunts then they hadn't learned a thing.

Van hotfooted it through the floo, turning and saluting as he and his cane disappeared through the flames.

And... there he went. "See ya, old friend," Wes waved off his former coworker and boss with a soft smile. So they were the 'Squidpunchers' now, eh? He liked that. Wes made a mental note to name their shruken-head bowling league that.... as soon as they formed said league.

....and as soon as the office was empty. Ahem. Sneaking his way back to his desk, Wes slipped into his office chair and took to subtly staring around the room at certain individuals, not-so-patiently waiting for his employees to...well, get to work. Sappy moment was over, folks, and the world was still spinning.

Roxanne was slightly nervous, considering that she'd been called in to discuss a certain promotion request that she'd decided to slip onto the end of her pay grade review form. Honestly, she was half afraid he was going to tell her no straight to her face. But, no, surely he wouldn't do that, right? Even if he did, he'd let her down gently, wouldn't he? The few times that she'd spoken with the man, he seemed quite nice. That lent itself to the 'let her down gently' theory. Then again, he could surprise her and say yes, deeming this worry as being all for nothing.

She was brought out of her internal worrying session by the realization that she was already outside the Department Head's door. Hoping that the nervousness didn't show on her face, Roxanne raised her hand and knocked on the aforementioned door. "Um, Wes, it's Roxanne. You, wanted to see me?" Wait, was he even okay with people calling him by his first name now that he was the Head?!

The Squidpunchers? Alysson giggled at Van's suggestions, shaking her head a little in amusement. "Yes, we'll all wear buttons and hats with your face on it." Now that would look awesome, wouldn't it? All the other departments would be SO jealous.

Alysson did notice Izzy's glance down at her engagement ring and her eyes widened slightly. She wasn't having second thoughts about this, was she? "I'm sure it's that! Happy surprise just before the wedding and all." Yes, she was rambling a little now but she just wanted to make sure Izzy wasn't too upset about all of this. Her own eyes darted to Wesley again, giving the back of his head a small glare just because. Why HADN'T he told Izzy about his promotion? ~~Also, why hadn't Evander said anything?!~~

Speaking of whom...he was leaving now. Glancing at Izzy for a second, Alysson then turned back to face Evander, even taking a small step into his direction. "We'll miss you." It was true. But of course he would have to leave at some point. They couldn't all just stay in Wesley's office forever. "See you around then, I guess." Since he was going to be hanging out here some more right? And he had mentioned going bowling too. That was something to look forward to then.

And with that he was gone.

Aly stared at the fireplace Evander had just disappeared through for a moment longer, before looking back at the people inside the office. Her eyes briefly flicked to Wesley who was...pointedly staring at them. "I think we should leave." She nudged Izzy before realizing that she might want to stay seeing as...she and her fiancé probably had some things to talk about. "Or well...I'm going to leave anyway." You can stay though.

Isoblel just strugged at her friend. She didn't know. It would've been nice, and it was a happy surprise. It would've just been nice if she had been told about. "He seems to be full of surprises..." She mused with a smile. Happy Surprises. Isobel would just keep telling herself that. Hmm. The office seemed to be emptying now. That was her cue to head back to her YATI's and give them something to do. It was her job after all. Although she did kind of want to talk to Wesley.

The blonde glanced towards her fiancé before she made her decision. "I'm coming Aly." Work before pleasure after all. The blonde looked at her friend and smiled, as she got up. Back to work it was, that was what she was paid to do. Looking back from her friend to Wesley she smiled at him. "I'll see you at home darling." and they would talk then. They'd probably end up celebrating his promotion too, but their would most definetly be some talking occuring. With that said, she made over to the door, beckoning her friend to follow. With a final glance, and smile at Wesley, she left the office.

Okay, maybe she should have just said goodbye and left. Now with Izzy glancing at Wesley for a moment, Alysson felt just a tiny bit awkward. Right, she made a mental note NOT to come by their house tonight ~~EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS STILL SO MUCH TO DO FOR THE WEDDING!~~ to give them some privacy. Since usually, couples didn't really get a lot of privacy before their wedding. After, of course, not before though. This was an exception, though. Usually, the groom didn't get promoted to Department Head without telling his fiancée.

When Izzy finally said that she would join her, Alysson took a couple of steps towards the door before stopping to turn around to Wesley again. "Bye. And congrats again, by the way." She directed a smile at her new Department Head, allowing her eyes to flicker towards the fireplace one last time. Catching Izzy's beckoning out of the corner of her eyes, Alysson turned around and followed her friend out the door.

Yes, she really couldn't think of anyone better to replace Evander as Department Head.

Wes tossed aside the boring paperwork he'd been looking at and stood up to get the door. He smirked a bit as he recalled Roxanne's application for a raise and found it interesting how, once he answered the door and saw her standing there, her face happened to match the little note on it.

"Well come in," he murmured, leaving the door open and retreating back to his desk. He continued talking as he led the way to the seating. "I found your pay grade review very interesting, Roxanne."

As Roxanne followed Wes over to his desk, she discretely scanned the office. The room was definitely masculine, in a old timey manner. She didn't care for it too much, but made sure her face didn't so that, instead schooling her features into an serious expression. Some of her remaining nervousness might've shown through...

"Good interesting, I hope," she replied, managing a small smile.

Er- Legend really hoped he wasn't in trouble. He was simply making his way back from a quick washroom break when a note had hit him in the head from the great Wesley himself, telling him to get his butt to his office now.

So what if he had cut his patrolling short to go to the loo? The small bladder that he had was not even his fault.Or maybe it was because he drank about five bottles of water, but basically it wasn't his fault. He couldn't be in trouble. Right? Legend hesitantly made his way to the office and brought his hand up.

He could run?

Instead, he gave a quick knock to the door and waited.

Er. There was another knock at the door? Wes smiled apologetically at Roxanne and got up to get it. She could mull over what he meant by 'promotion' while he handled whoever was interrupting this meeting.

Wrenching the door open, Wes blinked at the sight of Legend standing there. Oh, Legend. Right. He'd told the kid to come see him straight away about a personal matter he needed to deal with. All right then.

"You can come in," Wes grunted, "but don't sit down." Really, this matter wouldn't take more than a minute, maybe two at most.

The door was yanked open so violently that Legend, subconsciously reached for his wand, for some reason expecting an attack. Instead he got a large man who seemed to be surprised to see him.

Had he forgotten that he sent the note already?

Man, people weren't kidding when they said your mind was the first thing to go with age.

Don't sit down? That wasn't really polite. "Right." Legend mumbled, shifting his way into the office. Oh. He was already talking to Roxanne. He nodded his head, seriously and man like to his co-worker before leaning against Wes' desk. "Just so you know, its not my fault that I needed to pee today." It really wasn't. "I had to keep drinking water because all the hot chocolate I was drinking was too sweet and so after I drank the water I got cold again so I needed more hot chocolate." It was like a never ending cycle. And that liquid had to go somewhere. Preferably, the ministry toilets and not his pants.

So instead of sitting down, Legend thought it would be better to take a lean up against Wesley's desk....? And now he was rambling about using the facilities...

"Never mind, Chosen, you can sit." Wes shook his head, clearly ~~disturbed~~ confused by the boy. "I just meant to imply that I was going to be brief; I really didn't mean to scare the... liquid out of your bowels with my note."

Whups. Looked like Wes needed to work on his 'tone' or whatever when sending memos.

"Anyway, the reason I called you here today is that I need a ring-bearer for my wedding to Isobel." He looked at the YATI seriously. "And you fit the bill for the job. You're young, you're MLE, Isobel approves, and I think you're an all right lad. So, you wanna do it?"

Good? Great. Done.

Oh? So he could sit? Awesome! Legend plopped down into the chair beside Roxanne and flashed her a smile. See, he was important enough to sit too.

He thought he scared him? Legend snickered. "Oh, nah. I peed before the note." He had just been washing his hands you see. But this wasn't really the kind of conversation he could go on around with a woman right beside him.

Legend stared at Wesley. Man, he was really losing it. Ring-bearer, seriously? "But sir- that's a job for like...eight year olds." In case the old coot didn't know he was twenty years old. Though, he did say he thought he was all right, which wasn't too bad, even if he was offering him a place in the wedding that normally belonged to boys who had no clue what puberty was.

Groan. Wes was mentally groaning at this one. Now as a former Gryffindor, he KNEW other former Gryffindors were not the brightest crayons in the box, but Chosen here was either deliberately or unintentionally acting dull.

Maybe he should reconsider the wedding offer....?

"Yes, Legend, I realize that most ring-bearers are small children; however, seeing as Iz and I are planning a small ceremony, and considering the fact that neither of us is familiar with an 8-year-old boy..." he winced, "you will have to do."

Wes paused to consider how that sounded and added a little smile, just for Legend. "Please."

Really? No small nephews or cousins or friends children or anything? Strange. He guessed it was good that it would be a small wedding. Then people wouldn't laugh at him, and if they did, it wouldn't be a lot.

He was the last resort ring-bearer obviously. Last resort Legend to the rescue! Or maybe he wasn't. Since Wes was smiling and all. An odd thing that made the young man smile back. "Alright, I'll do it." He said finally, as if he had actually been given the choice. The bright side about this was that he got to miss a day of work. 'Hey boss, sorry I can't come in today, have to carry the rings for your wedding.'

Brillant.

He guessed that was that. The blonde was about to stand up when he remembered something. Digging into his pocket for a few seconds he pulled out a small crumbled piece of paper and slid it across the desk to Wes.

"No problem Wes-er boss." Yeah. He was his boss now, a big and serious thing. Legend stood up, but not before grabbing the paper that was quickly tossed back at him.

MORE MONEY!? Awesome! His smile grew before he saluted the man. "Cool, see you later then." Maybe. Wait...why did he want Emily? Surely Wes wasn't insane enough to request for her to be a flower girl, right? He basically swaggered out of the office, more excited about the money and Emily possibly being a flower girl than the ring bearer thing but who carried?

Wait, had she heard him right? Saved him the trouble of having to search her out? Roxanne kind of fell into the seat opposite Wes instead of actually sitting. She really wasn't expecting that. Obviously.

Just as she was about to ask what position he had in mind for her, they were interrupted. By Legend. Going on and on about having to pee. Not that Roxanne minded the crass speech. In fact, it could be said that she herself could be quite crass. She couldn't help the small giggle that escaped as he just went on.

As the wedding talk began, though, she kind of tuned out. Weddings were still kind of one of her touchy subjects, so she let her mind wonder to what her new job title could possibly be. She honestly had no idea. She had been too caught up in her own... relationship? Dating? Well, whatever it was, she had been too caught up in it to notice who in her division had left/moved up. That was unusual for her but she wasn't even going to attempt to figure out what that meant now.

And Legend was leaving now. Good. Now they could get back to this promotion thing...

All right, the kid was smiling. Wes felt good about that, even if he'd only given Legend a raise in (what seemed like) sickles. "See you around," he nodded to the YATI as he left, waiting for the door to close before focusing back on Roxanne.

"So, about your raise... what are your thoughts on becoming a Ministry prosecutor?" He glanced down at her file which he'd put on his desk for just this reason. "You have some of the qualifications achieved, but you'd probably need to put in a few credit hours at Wizard or Muggle university...."

The pay was better and the job was more interesting, though. Wes looked up. "Would you take it?"

Credit hours at a university? Could she really handle that and continue working? But she'd be crazy to turn down being a prosecutor, right? As for the money, Roxanne wasn't really worried about that. She had plenty of that. Nope, she was more worried about juggling college, a job, and her personal life. It wasn't a secret that she was no longer in her twenties and while she wasn't old old, she just didn't have that youthful energy. Still, though, the fact remained that Wes was offering her a job as a Ministry Prosecutor. Deciding that, yes, it would be crazy to turn that down, she said simply "I'll take it. How many credit hours do I need?"

Great. She'd take it. "I think you'd need two or three classes, and the DMLE has a fund to take care of those for you. You'd also be allowed to leave work early to head to class or take a day off from the job every now and then if needed. As long as you're doing university things." He nodded and jotted something down on a parchment pad, then passed it across the table to her.

"Here's the job description and salary I'm thinking. What say you?" She still seemed somewhat hesitant to him...

Victoria shook her head and said,"No. I just came to say hello and congrats. I'll be taking my leave now." as she backed away before turning to leave. She made her way to the door and just as she reached for the knob she turned and said,"Don't be a stranger now." and she headed out the door.

Honestly, between owning a share in her family's company (or half of it, really) and her salary here, she definitely didn't need help paying for the classes. It had only been the time she had been worried about. But now, with everything starting to sink in, she was excited about getting started.

Anyway. He nodded and gestured with open hands. "Now? I'd say your promotion goes into effect now and you can start prosecuting once you've completed the university training and such."

He stood up, pleased that had gone so well, and held out his hand. "Congratulations, Ms. Carter."

Ack, why so formal? Oh well, when in Rome... Roxanne stood up as well, and shook Wes' hand. "Thank you, Mr. Ferguson. I'm looking forward to my new job," she said, very formally. Just in case there was any doubt. She walked to the door, opened it, and left the office, closing the door behind her. Well, that meeting had exceeded her expectations.
