"Is there anything I need to know?" Heh, if Wes could have had a little Muggle camera in the room, just to capture Emily's progression of facial expressions... it would have ALL been worth it. Not that it wasn't worth it right now, but if he'd had a camera he coulda shown Izzy later.
Well that was what pensieves were for, he guessed. And he was just glad the young lady had accepted!
"Gooood!" Wes boomed, clapping his hands once for her and then letting them lie loosely in his lap. "That's settled then. I'll be helping you get a handle on the YATI --- I have a good idea for one last training for 'em anyway --- and of course you'll want to meet with your senior aurors to let them know of this promotion personally..." What senior aurors? Never mind that.
"And then I'll see to it that you receive a substantial pay raise as well." He nodded firmly. Wes would never forget the money factor. He stood up then and held out his hand for her to shake. "Sound good, Head Auror?"

Going down the hall Saul stopped and grabbed a cup of coffee before stopping by the boss' office. Last time he stopped by to ask about a pay raise the guy threw a task of finding someone in the department, That threw him in a sour mood. So after finding that Jaxton guy (or whoever he was! The guy was keen on saying he wasn't Jaxton) Saul just went back to his office space and did some work.
Hopefully now Wes wasn't going to make him do stupid tasks and actually let him in the office this time. He gave two quick knocks on the office door.

Well this was goooood progress, even if she wasn't allowed a timeturner.. THIS was far better. "No worries boss, I'll be in touch," she nodded, unless he was going to be in touch first, which really didn't matter either way cause communication was key.
Easing herself out of her seat, Emily's thoughts were focused on the tasks at hand, she still had YATI's to guide, a case to close and an attorney to be mindful of. "And I'll keep you posted with any developments," she nodded as she reached the door. Until she got used to this HEAD auroring thing, she would be checking in a fair bit. And with Jax too, when he was available.
Oh, lookit that, Saul was here.
"Saul," she greeted on her way out.

Oh, his man? When was the last time the two of them enjoyed a drink at the Leaky, or anywhere for that matter? He gave Emily a nod as she stepped by him to acknowledge her greeting."Emily"
Maybe a sip of this coffee would calm his nerves. He took a quick sip and finished with a disgusted face. THIS STUFF WAS NEVER GOOD! Why did he bother grabbing a cup. If only he had enough money to afford a decent coffee maker at his place.
Readjussting his face Saul looked up at the Boss. "I think we've been meaning to have a quick meeting. I just got caught up on some work." Yup he can make the excuse to take the blame. Never tell the boss it was his fault, nope never. Even if he wanted to shove it all in Wes' face.

Unfolding the parchment Saul looked it over. This really was a big responsibility, a lot of work. Probably a lot of hours too. Just how he liked it.
Nothing but work made him happy, well that and the Assistant at Paradise Tattoo's. At least he can have more to spend on delicious pies the two of them can enjoy.

Not feeling so sure of what he was doing, Josh kept walking in the corridor towards the boss' office even though his feet threatened to make his way away from the place, a certain part in his mind screaming him to forget about it and get back to his work or whatever he was supposed to do that day. But the other part of him was determined to do what he was going to do. It was necessary to do so for...the future.
So, yes, he was determined. He was not going to let that other thought affect his actions. No, he was not going to. Anyway, it was too late to change his mind when he finally reached to the door and knocked on it. Knocking on the door then running away would be a really bad and inappropriate joke for the boss man.

A tiny paper origami crane flutters into the office, slipping under the door and landing softly on the desk. It delicately unfolds in the middle of the Department Head's desk to reveal the following memo:

Please bear with us as we work to correct the problem. Speaking of waking up....or opening up... as soon as Wes walked in to his office, a paper crane opened up on his desk and showed him a memo from Transportation. Wonderful, the floo network was down. Was he surprised?
No. Transportation was the least effective department in this whole Ministry. Wes pushed the paper crane off the side and into his wastebasket and then had a seat, gesturing for Josh to do the same.

As his dark eyes landed on the different stuff in the office, Josh were looking but not seeing his mind was busy with the thoughts of how he was ever going to start what he was going to ask to the boss man.
When he looked back at the man, it looked like he was busy with a kind of note for himself so he remained silent. Oh...was not that one of the memos that flied around? It looked like that so. Anyway...it probably was not his business so he just waited in silence. Once the boss man got rid of the piece of paper and indicated him to sit down, Josh immediately did so. ''Sir...'' he began wetting his lips a bit. ''There's something i need to discuss with you.''

Josh looked up when he heard the sound of the door closing and could not help thinking if he had made a mistake by not closing it at first. Was that rude? He was not sure. Perhaps it was yet when he looked back at Wes, he did not look like he minded it at all. Perhaps Wes closed the door because he figured that the young man was going to talk about something private.
That had to be it. Josh's mind was too busy to think of such petty little details anyway because of a...good reason. He thought it was a good reason to not have all of his mind open to everything. ''Well...sir...'' one way or another he had to say it even though he did not know how to. So he decided not to think too much over it and just say it. ''My girlfriend is pregnant and awaiting twins. I...um...that makes us think of...lots of things. The amount of gold i win is no way enough to be able to raise two children so...i wanted to know if i have any chance with a payrise. You know...being an Auror i am too busy to handle side jobs.''

Oh. Okaaaaaay then, yeah, he hadn't been expecting that bombshell to just be dropped in the office. Wes' eyebrows went up up up. He didn't know what to say at first, so he just... sat there with a mellowed expression. Finally he let out a light sigh.
"Twins are a handful and a half," he acknowledged with a nod. "Let me tell ya. And babies in general are expensive too." Wes shifted in his seat just thinking of the cost of a good sitter for one night out. "Do you know your current paygrade, Josh?" No a raise wasn't out of the question, the boy got one every year of course. But maybe he wanted a more substantial one this time?

The alley cat patronus belonging to a certain department head hurried into the room, jumped onto the desk belonging to it's recipient and wasted no time in delivering it's message, the voice coming from it sounding worried. "Wes, when you get a chance, I need to talk to you about the Hogwarts Vault case. It's important." Message delivered, the patronus faded away quickly.

Josh watched the boss man's expression and he was not surprised to see that. Yeah...he knew he was young. Evelyn was young too. And Merlin....it was twins! It could even be hard enough to deal with a single baby now there twins soon were going to come. Things happened, of course, and no one could take them back. Not that he intended to anyway. To be honest, the idea of having children with Evelyn brought a smile to his lips just the part that he was still not sure if she would marry him bothered him a bit.
And of course this gold issue. ''Well...'' the young man thought over Wes' question. His paygrade. ''...is not it the same as last year?'' he supposed it was yet hoped it was not. ''Sir...i am not asking for too much. We live in a forest cottage and i grow most of our food myself. Plus i am building an extra room for the babies. I would never ask for more than i deserve.''

"It's not, actually, we went through and gave out raises in January, as we do every year... and with your change of rank to Auror status, you're now on the 'E' paygrade level instead of the G apprentice level."
He rooted around in one of the drawers on his desk for Josh's file, then popped it out and showed him what he was making. After a pause, Wes added, "...do you think that's going to be enough to support your family?" No one would be able to call him heartless anymore if he negotiated something higher for the young man.
