Roxanne sat up, wincing, in the chair as soon as the Bossman entered. And immediately started snapping at people. Well, not so much snapping in the case of some. Okay, so not snapping at anyone really but Aron. Arguing in front of the Minster? She wondered who it had been. If it had been Dacosta, he had her full support. Obviously her job had given her a big head. And Roxanne really couldn't stand people like that, nope. She would be doing her best to avoid the woman from here on out. Was the best for everyone involved, least she start cursing the woman. At the little speech to Kensi, Roxanne began to get the picture of what exactly had happened. The gopher must have shot off his mouth (then again, when doesn't he) and either Aron and Kensi or just Kensi herself must snapped at him. Which got a smirk that she hid by pretending to bite at a hangnail on her thumb. Really, any day that Transportation head got told off, by a woman nonetheless, was a good one. Her smirk turned into a look of sympathy as the other woman was told that she was going to be quarantined with the rest of the Scowling is what the next little speech was met with from her, as precious Dacs was just given her assignment. No scolding what's so ever. Grr. And that folks, was how you ended up with a big headed employee. Yep. And her response? Well, no duh. Call Mensa 'cause we have another friggen Einstein here. "Really, I'm sure no one here would've known that I'm not a field agent unless you'd told them. Really. But with so much going on, we really needed to be all hands on deck. Which, unfortunately for you includes me. And, I'd be happier never seeing your face again. But since we're the same level, we have to put up or shut up." Which she planned on doing. Putting up, that was. But what she next really dug at her. How dare she?! She was acting like she had done nothing wrong! Roxanne's voice took on a dangerous air as she spoke. "I don't appreciate the way you shouted something so very personal for all and sundry to hear." And about and in front of said division head too. "You've made it very hard for said division head and I to work in the same office. See this is where your age is a disadvantage. An older person would've considered ALL of the ramifications before speaking about something so personal. Something to chew on while you're on your high horse." She knew she had just made things even worse on herself for when Wes started in on her, but right then she was so mad she didn't care. She wanted the young woman to understand just exactly what she had done. And then it was her turn. Gulp. "Yes, sir." Best to stay with polite terminology, seeing as the boss was angry. She winced again when Wes yelled at everyone else to get out. Oh, this was going to be bad....... |
short just to keep the guy moving ^___^ Aw, come ON bro! What happened to the mutual understanding of masculine respect and all that? Meh, whatever. If Aron felt like he needed to defend himself he would. He wasn't used to this sort of rigid hierarchy system, or whatever you wanted to call it, so take it as a learning curve and move on. So, Head Cabbage got a sincere two finger salute and a firm nod. "Understood." Right, if he was done here then he was going to get his lab equipment and head to the cafeteria. As for the conversation, erm, arguments, erm, whatever was going on right now...yeah...this was why he liked hanging out with testosterone whenever he could. "So...I'll just head on over then?" he asked, jabbing his thumb towards the door. |

"REAL MATURE, WHITWORTH," Wes shouted after her. "DOOR REPLACEMENT'S COMING OUT OF YOUR PAYCHECK." Brat. That was the thanks he got for trying to protect her from herself? Geez whiz. He just loved this job. Quote:
This lecture was really for Roxanne's benefit, so instead of staring at quill on his desk that looked half-chewed, Wes focused his glare on the Wizengamot woman. As for talking to Kensi later... whatever. Wes waved a hand. She'd get it or she'd get fired. Hopefully the former before the latter. Quote:
"Now," Wes got up from his desk and started pacing, one hand rubbing a tense spot in the back of his neck, "now I have a negative report I have to put in your file, Roxanne, when you WERE on track to take over the Wizengamot one day. This is a set back, and now I can't trust you to DO YOUR JOB, much less help out with other tasks, ALONE. Do you UNDERSTAND the severity of what you've done? You're lucky I don't have a full staff right now, or I'd have to prosecute my top prosecutor for tampering with evidence." He stopped pacing for a moment to throw her a snarly, gnarly look, speaking again in a much softer but more dangerous tone. "You'd better damn well hope de Talone didn't hear about this either, or that will really throw a wrench in things." And then the entire wizarding public who wanted to see her convicted would hate Roxanne Carter. Quote:

Without another word, but with a firm nod, Aron excused himself and left the office. Time to get down to work and hopefully away from all these lady problems. Thank Merlin Seren was sensible. She fancied flesh eating plants over all this rubbish. |
Well, what did Wes expect? Roxanne couldn't work with women who had an ego problem, which Dacs obviously had in spades. And yet, when someone wanted to trim her feathers a bit, they were the ones getting yelled at. It really wasn't fair and had Roxanne questioning rather she even wanted to continue working in this department anymore. Surely what was awaiting her back home could not be worse than this. She would've scoffed at the unfairness, but Wes' glare was focused right on her. So, instead, she stared back, stone faced, not letting her face betray any of her inner thoughts. Until his fist slammed into his desk, leaving a dent. At which she jumped and whimpered a little, checking discreetly to make sure that she had grabbed her wand before leaving the house earlier. Feeling it poking out of her waistband, she breathed an internal sigh of relief. Yep, he was actually that scary. Anyway, as the whole meeting/reaming/whatever continued, Roxanne actually started to sink into her seat. Yeah, she was embarrassed over her actions, but she still felt that her anger towards the other woman was justified. She should've handled it better, is all. And she was still angry that she seemed to be taking the brunt of the blame. Really? Just..... really? Her eyes did widen a bit when she heard that she had been poised to take over the Wizengamot, however. This was the first she was hearing of it. Oh Merlin, what had she done?! The advancement of her career had been thrown into jeopardy just because she couldn't hold it together over an arrogant little upstart! She had to gulp back tears as the full realization hit her. Ugh, she had worked so hard, too! "Yes sir, I understand." She was now determined to do everything she could possibly do to get her career back on track. Even if it meant getting along with aforementioned arrogant upstart. As the de Talone case was brought up, however, she had to heave a sigh. And start chewing on a hangnail for real, trying to think of what she could do to keep de Talone from hearing about it. The door that was now hanging off it's hinges probably wasn't going to help that..... |
SPOILER!!: Wes Dacs nodded and said,"Understood sir. But she handles evidence after due process." When Wes slammed his fist in his into his desk, Dacs simply breathed in deeply. She knew Wes had a lot dealing with and was very angry. "I know this looks bad but the situation was handled." SPOILER!!: Roxanne She looked down at the cowering woman as she remained standing."As much as I really don't see it as a big deal. I will say I honestly did not know about your personal business and had no intention of hurting you. My only goal was to retrieve the piece of evidence. I only have one question for you. Why did you do it?" she asked, with a hazel gaze firmly placed on the woman. Dacs would never mess with her job and by tampering with a case so she wanted to know why she did as it was messing with her job. To Dacs that was crossing a personal line even though this was mainly about following procedure. Yes she did come at her hard but that was because she knew she was lying about something that crucial. What would she tell Wes if this piece of evidence surfaced and was not processed properly? Dacs didn't do much but push until the woman relented. She did her job and retrieved evidence. |
Roxanne just had to close her eyes and pinch her nose when the other woman began to speak. Ugh, hadn't she been through enough the past couple of days without having to explain herself...... to her! But, in the spirit of getting her career back on track and not making their boss any angrier ('cause he was SCARY when he was angry), explain she did. "I honestly don't know. I-I guess just didn't feel appreciated enough? Maybe I thought that if I figured out what that letter was about, that it would score me points? With everyone?" Stupid reasons, she knew, but then she'd had a history of stupid rash moves. She just hoped that she hadn't completely derailed.... well everything. And that no one noticed the tears falling as just how huge a mess she'd made of everything was really hitting her. "I'm sorry," she croaked, to both of them. |
Just posting to react and leave again. ^_^ (Since I've been offline for a day plus) Dorian had essentially been trying to ignore everything in the office before Wes' arrival. As such, he'd practically heard his former housemate's arrival even before the man had stepped into the room, standing back up from his lean in time for his boss and friend to clap him on the shoulder. Not exactly the most comfortable thing, given the current status to his body, but he managed to hide most of the twinge the action had caused by the shrug he'd answered the statement with. "Figured it'd save you a memo," he replied, lapsing into silence again as the assignment had continued spooling out. Apparently he wasn't going to escape the zombie case any longer, but it had seemed inevitable given the action in the rest of the level. At least he as going to avoid dealing with the infected workers for the most part. He had nodded as the lecture had begun, starting with Aron, and slipped out as soon as his colleague had been informed he was on cafeteria duty as well. There was no need for him to stay to listen to the rest, although he'd stayed outside to listen to the information about quarantining. Nodding slightly to Izzy, even as he felt sympathy both to his former fellow MLEr, Mysteries head, and Wes's wife, as well as to Wes himself. What hadn't been said had to be difficult, and he was tempted to stop off on Level Three on his way to the cafeteria to speak with Natasha. However, he didn't, instead disappearing out of the office toward the lifts and heading back to the Atrium shortly before Aron had followed. Stopping off at the coffee cart for an espresso. He was going to need it. |
*makes this quick and painless* lololololololol x 100 @ Dorian though..just...yeah xD Right, sure, it was handled. Wes shot Dacs a look that said it was anything BUT handled, and made a note to keep a closer eye on her in the future too. Merlin knew she had a temper, but it'd be a cold day in Hades before he let a spat between two of his employees go too far. The main thing was that Roxanne got the point. He nodded curtly at both women and then nudged his head toward his door. "I'm going to start on rounding up the infected... people...." since he had two waiting for him right there. "Dacs, head down to the cafeteria. They need a leader. Just... keep your temper in check, all right? I'll be down later to see how things are going. Send a patronus if you need anything." As for the 'under-appreciated' or whatever prosecutor? "There's some people assembling in the lobby, Roxanne, and I want you to join them. If you're looking for some action, well, you'll find it. Grab a hit wizard or witch and help round up those infected employees. Beckett from Wizengamot is one of them." Now, get to it. Wes slammed Roxanne's file shut and then messily shoved the whole folder into his desk. "Any questions?" He eyed Dacs, eyed Roxanne, and then pointedly eyed the door. They were dismissed. |
Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief as it seemed that the worst was over. And that she still at least had her current job. Which was something, she guessed. She barely managed to keep the smirk off her face at the look Wes shot Dacs. See there? Not so immune now, are you? From now on though, the only thing the other woman would be getting from Roxanne would be cold, polite yet indifferent professionalism. But.....they needed a leader down there? Hadn't he........ ugh never mind. And it seemed like she wasn't going to be avoiding the zombies anymore, either as Wes wanted her to help round up the infected and bring them to quarantine. And undoubtly that would be the group with the least amount of people, considering that most people would be trying to avoid the zombies as much as possible. As Wes looked at Dacs, then herself and then the door, she got the message. They were dismissed. "No questions, sir," she answered, getting up to exit. It was zombie hunting time. But first, nature called. |
Dacs looked directly at Wes as she saw when he shot her a look that said she did get in trouble. But she couldn't take it personal. It was work and she had to accept it and move passed it. She had the good sense to stomp on her anger and even out her gaze. Her temper got her into trouble....again. Well, she never claimed to be perfect. She nodded at Wes' instructions and said,"I'll do my best sir." She knew what he meant. "No questions." With that Dacs turned on her booted heels and walked out of the office. |
Good, they got the message. Wesley was going to be hoarse by the end of the day if he kept up this shouting, so he simply nodded as the women left. Then he also headed out his door, slamming the poor thing shut again as he went to collect Izzy and Kensi. "Right, this way, you two," he spoke to the women. "I've got a special place just for you...trust me, it's perfectly safe..." |
Knocking on her Department Head's office door, Roxanne had to take a deep breath. Hopefully, this visit would go better than the last one, which still made her cringe. Nah, it had to go better. Especially if this was about the promotion she put in for. She didn't know what had made her put in for it, she just knew that it felt right somehow. And now she would find out if that little hunch was correct. |
Quote:
So back at work he was. "Come in," he called out when he heard the knocking. He had a feeling he knew who this was. |
Oh, whew. He was in. Roxanne entered Wes' office and sat one of the chairs in front of his desk. On the very edge, of course. Didn't want to get too comfortable, after all. Bad form. "I wanted to speak to you about... a promotion?" And right down to business. Because she didn't have much time, as she really wanted to get this De Talone case done. The zombie invasion had already pushed things back too far. Way, way too far. |
Quote:
"A promotion. Well, I can tell you, you don't have a lot of competition as far as Wizengamot attorneys go." As in, she was about it. He winked to show that she could relax a little and shuffled a few sheets of parchment around his desk to find the one with job descriptions on it. He held it in his big paw though, not quite ready to just let her have it. "Luckily, Roxanne, I think you've redeemed yourself from that little er, episode last year. Your work ethic was pretty impressive when it came to... rounding up... your fellow employees." Wes nodded and went on. "How long has it been since you were last promoted?" He knew, but he wanted to see if she did too. |
She knew that there weren't that many prosecutors in the department. Exactly two. And since Skander didn't seem to come in much, well...... anyway. Roxanne did relax a bit more though when it didn't seem like Wes was going to completely tell her off for asking for a promotion though. But she did cringe a bit at the mention at of 'the incident'. Not one of her finer moments. "Thank you, sir." That question kind of threw her for loop. "I believe it's been..... two years?" Two highly eventful years. Actually made it seem like longer, if she thought about it too much. |
Quote:
SPOILER!!: Parchment "Think that over. We can discuss the pay second." He settled back in his chair and watched her with a half smile. |
It was a really good thing that Roxanne didn't have anything to drink right then, or otherwise it would have, quite uncouthly, ended up all over the place. As it was, her eyes nearly bugged out of her head. Wizarding Director of Prosecution. Pretty big job there. But of course there was no question that she was going to take it. Just took a few minutes to form the words. "I'll take it! Thank you!" Smooth, Carter. Real smooth. |
Quote:
Not that it mattered to her, probably, since Wes had read somewhere that Roxanne was a millionaire... He kept his eyes on her still. "What do you say to that?" |
Of course she wasn't going to take the job lightly. She never took her career lightly And now they were talking money. Which Roxanne didn't care much about anyway. She had plenty of that, so the work was really about having something of her own to be proud of. And avoid becoming one of those useless celebrity heiresses you hear about. "Sounds good to me. Anything else?" You know, before she got cracking on her new job? |
Quote:
Huh, funny how much the new girl had in common with Roxanne... minus the hit wizard bit. Wes stood up then to show her to the door. "Any questions before I let you get back to work?" |
A former hit witch from America with a degree from Salem? Okay, Roxanne had to meet this girl. Maybe they had...... nah, she was probably younger than herself. Most of the new hires these days were. Not that there was anything wrong with it. Where was she again? Oh, yeah. "No questions," she replied, getting up and walking to the door. Yeah, she was eager to get back to work. And she knew where her first stop would be, too. The Holding Cells. "Thanks again." And she was gone, closing the door behind her as she went. |
Melissa hesitated in front of Mr. Ferguson's office. She wondered why he wanted to speak with her. Yes she had requested to be considered for a new position in the MLE but she didn't think that Mr. Ferguson was ready to start interviewing people yet. She wiped her clammy hands on the side of her dress, fixed her dress. 'Nothing revealing?...Nope...hair okay...check. Nothing stuck in my teeth. Nope. Okay here goes. You can do this Melissa. Remember that's the reason why you applied for the position. No chickening out now.' she told herself. Taking a deep breath, she slowly released it and then pulled her shoulders back, and with her head help up high, she knocked on the door and waited for him to reply. |
Wes held open the door for Roxanne as she quickly made her exit, murmuring a, "You're welcome," as she left, and then headed back to his desk. The door had seemingly just closed behind her when it was being knocked upon again and Wes had to turn around to go get it. Maybe Carter had forgotten something? "Oh, Ms. Potter," Wes greeted the person at the door with a slight eyebrow raise. That was right, he had told her they would meet today. Wes opened the door wider for her and left it open as he once again returned to his desk. "Come on in and have a seat, please." |
