After dropping off Hunter and Ryder at the daycare center, Evelyn made her way down to the conference room in the Department of Mysteries. Thank Merlin for magic, right? It made getting to her floor that much quicker. Though it didn't make her pre-first impression of the new department head any better. Why did Isobel retire? She liked the woman...
Though much like the daycare center, she kept up an open mind on the matter, and after making a cup of tea, she entered the conference room. And...yea, it was harder to keep an open mind now. First one here. Oh boy. On the bright side, her seat to the left of the head chair was open. One point to Mister Chair.
Demetrius was torn because he like Isobel as a boss and had no idea who the new boss was like. It was a mystery. That is fitting for the Department of Mysteries.
Sigh.
He was early and the only person in the room right now was Evelyn. Great. "Hello, Evelyn" He took a random seat and waited for Boss Man to show up

Jasper could hear voices coming from the room. He lingered for a moment outside of the room for a moment to try and calm his nerves. First day jitters. He exhaled and poked his head in.
"I'm sorry is this where we'll be having the meeting?" He asked the only two Unspeakables currently in the room before stepping in a little more. He was tall with dark hair and a timid look about him, a certain hesitancy in his body language that could suggest he wouldn't last the day out.

And one strike against the new boss man for leaving her in the conference room with Demetrius. "Hello." she replied back in great monotone, staring at her cup of tea. Taking a deep breath, she stretched her back a little before relaxing...and stole the moment to glance towards her co-worker. She didn't know what made her do it, but she was going to do it! "Soooo, how...was your brea-"
Oh thank Merlin, newbie in the room. Being nice with small talk tasted bad.
"Maybe." Juuuuust maybe, random person. "Who are you?"
And the day was finally here. The first day of her new job. The first one in years that was indoors/stable/safe. Her nerves were a little frazzeled but that was normal. Navigating through the entry way of the Ministyr and then to her floor had been an interesting ordeal. If this morning was any indication she was be practicing a few muscles of hers to the point of super strength within a month. Her mind drew up a picture of her in a super hero costume and she chuckled.
Finally she found where she was supposed to be. The meeting was set for early so she had woken up super early and gone in search of coffee. Thankfully she had found a cute little cafe that served up a mean latte just down the street from the Ministry. Coming to the door she hiked up her bag higher onto her shoulder and moved her sunglasses higher onto her head and then walked in.
She found a few people already present including Jasper. She smiled to the room at large. "Morning." Without giving it much thought she walked to the table and took the seat next to Jasper.

Ashby was running a little late, but he figured that would be okay. He needed his employees to be there when he started the meeting anyway. So hopefully some of them would be there. Grabbing his papers from his new desk, he headed over to the conference room. He wasn't nervous. He'd taught at the wizarding university, so nothing really was more daunting than that. As he walked into the conference room, he smiled at all them gathered. "Good Morning." He murmured as he headed towards his seat at the end of the table.

"Jasper Mitterbill." He held his hand out for the witch to shake, before drawing it back realizing that her question, which Jasper had found to be blunt, gave him the distinct feeling she was either about to judge him or was already doing it. It made him even more nervous. Schweddy palms. He made little sounds as though he were trying to say something before spitting out, "I'm the new prophecy collator."

Oh, thank Merlin! They were getting started. He awkwardly dismissed himself from his botched surgery of a self-introduction and took a seat. That had gone over well.
Wait....was she actually going to ask how his break was. Demetrius mouth opened in shock. He did not even no what to do. This was completely new territory. Thank Merlin the new guy walked in or they would have had an actual normal conversation. Hehe mysterious conversation for the Department of Mysteries. Best get use to it. Demetrius smirked at Evelyn's response to the new guy
Demetrius just sat back and watched more new people enter the room and then came in the Boss Man. Finally.
"Morning"

Gavin was well informed about the meeting to get acquainted with the new boss, or whatever this meeting was for (merlin knew they had too many of these things) but it didn't make him put anymore pep in his step. Rushing to a room filled with people? Couldn't he just stay in his lab and ask someone to brief him later? Oh but that would require going up to someone and starting a conversation. He just couldn't win.
Gavin walked into the room, seeing that most everyone had already arrived, he muttered a low "Morning." but that was all they were getting before he took his seat.
Could they get this over with? He had potions to get back to, and people avoiding to do. New faces, yes he saw them. Great. More people to become accustomed to enough to not flinch away when they were around. Just when he thought he'd gotten this whole thing down, others to get acquainted with.
Sigh. He should have stopped for coffee on the way here.

New boss. Sherman didn't WANT him here.
A couple of years ago, the elderly man would have preferred a male boss over a female any day, as the men didn't have claws for nails that could rip his wrinkles right off his face. But after such a long time with Izzy, it was extremely hard for the elderly man to adjust to a new head, let alone one that looked as scary as this Ashby guy.
He wheeled into the spot beside Evelyn and Demetrius, tugging his newsboy cap over his eyes and avoiding eye contact with the bossman.
But Evelyn he could look at. She had trimmed her fingernails recently, right? He peeked at them, not wanting to sit next to her if their was a possibility of her scratching his eyes out. Sherman needed those.

Jasper Mitterbill. She may or may not remember that name. Though after his misstep with the handshake and the awkward noises he was making before finally saying what his job was...she was definitely going to remember his name. Jasper Mitterbill. He was going to be fuuuuuuun whenever she was bored.
Chuckling quietly to herself, she smirked and glanced towards Demetrius while raising an eyebrow. Did he see all of that? Why, was she even...Clearing her throat, she turned her attention ELSEWHERE, like the other two new people who just walked into the room. Oh, but one of them was just not any new person. Boss man.
"Good morning." she greeted with a small smile. Tapping her fingers against her cup of tea, she was aware someone had moved to the seat next to her, though was pleasantly surprised to see it was Sherman. Pleasantly, yes. She didn't mind the old man.

Okaaay. So this was apparently going to be it. Ashby remembered Isobel mentioning that there were low numbers in the department, but he had been expecting a little bit more than this. Hopefully more people would show up. If not, he would need to owl people. He better start the meeting now though, because he needed to start other things out.
"So.... we'll start the meeting now." He smiled at them. "I'm Ashby Summers, and I'm your new department head." Obviously. "Previous to taking this position I was a Professor of Astronomy at the wizarding university in Naples." He had loved that job so much. It was so nice teaching. "And before that I was an astronomer in this very department." So he had a lot of experience.
"I have read all of your files... but I would appreciate if you could all remind me of your names, and give me a brief history of your work." Because that would be very useful.

Demetrius did in fact see all that and it was extremely amusing. Oh new people. It will never get old. Though that reminded him. Where was Alex. Did she leave the department. Questions and Mysteries. Fitting. But guess it was finally time to get to this meeting and all the work that had to be done. Autopsies and more Autopsies.
Ah Astronomy. Boring to Demetrius. Planets and stars were cool to look at. But that was about it. But it was at least relevant since he use to work here. Did he seriously want us to introduce ourselves?
Seriously. And what did brief history of your work mean. Job Title or actually what we were doing. Demetrius leaned back in his chair and said. "Demetrius, Death Specialist"
Don't think people really want to know his last name or what he was working on in the past besides Evelyn's potion thing.

Death Specialist. Jasper might have visibly held his breath at the sound of the title ...no, not the sound of the title on it's own, but the combination of the title and the nonchalant, devil-care way the wizard who merely went by Demetrius conveyed that information. He felt that with the severity of death the wizard might've tried to soften it a little. Maybe tried to be more friendly, or at least less unabashed. Jasper found it a bit disquieting, but maybe it was unfair to judge. Yes. He would reserve his judgement. He didn't, afterall know anything about what they called the Death Chamber and working in there could've taken any number of tolls on a person.
No one else had spoken yet, so Jasper took the initiative to be number two. Story of his life. Ha. And one long exhale later he was responding to Mr. Summers as well. "Jasper Mitterbill. I'll be working as the new prophecy collator. I had previously worked in the Persian Ministry." Did Mr. Summers want him to give all of his work history? Maybe just a concise version as it pertained to what he'd be doing now would be more efficient. "Very similar work to what I'll be doing now." Except for the whole selling out bit and the way in which he'd been dismissed from that job. The latter had been entirely unforeseeable.

Interesting. The emotions running around the room were both complex and simple. She hadn't felt this much a mix in a while. It was almost as varied as a hatchingly nest but a bit more human and far less aggressive. The mix had her inner observationist standing and taking notice. The Demetrius character gave off a very scientific and yet morbid vibe. Then Jasper stepped up and introduced himself. Syd had to admit it surprised her that he had spoken up as willingly as he did. When no one else spoke up she figured she might as well.
"I'm Syndil Rivers. I'll be an orb specialist here at the Ministry. I have spent the last several years traveling the world doing odds and ends research for varies groups and people."

Nothing like having a new department head that studied one of the most boring subjects in the world's history, BUT, that didn't matter. Tiny details. What mattered was his request. Semi-narrowing of eyes action was happening. Name to face recognition was understandable, though their history of work should've been in their files, right?
"Evelyn Flores." She spoke up next. "Ever locked room supervisor."

He tried not, from his seat right next to hers, look at her when she spoke, but it was still so odd to him to have Syndil right there in the flesh...in the same room...speaking. Considering that he thought he wouldn't be seeing her again. He managed only a brief acknowledging glance when she started, then glanced away neutrally, letting his ears do the rest of the perceiving. '...Odds and ends research for various groups and people.'
What on earth did that mean?
He did not know Syndil Rivers.

And...yea...
The intimidating lady, whose hand Jasper had tried to shake earlier was called Evelyn. Evelyn Flores. Jasper noticed as she seemed to be trying to squint as though she were giving her answer great thought. Though, when she finally did speak, it was really the barest of details. They were all very discreet people, which to Jasper seemed like a good thing given where they were working. Perhaps a requisite characteristic to working within the department.

Okaay.
So these people really did not like talking. Well then. May as well move onto more important things. "I'll be getting to know you all a little more personally over the next few weeks." He murmured, as he readjusted his papers, so that he had the one he wanted on top. Now onto more important matters. "Now those of you who work in the ever-locked room will now be working on the memories we recovered from the testers of the love potion, to find out the effects and such." He hoped that they would be able to find some.
"I'll bring the memories down from my office after the meeting so you can begin getting on with that task." Now for the rest of the people. "The rest of you basically just need to carry on with your every day tasks. I will be coming along to see what you are doing though." So no slacking off.

Was that a sense of humour he detected in Mr. Summers? Jasper thought he'd seen a glimmer of it during the interview process. He hadn't been sure, but with the last thing Mr. Summers had said, Jasper got the impression that it might've been an invitation to engage. You know...just don't gemino photographs of your backsides to the other Department Heads.
It would be impolite.
Not too much to ask and a short meeting, really if that was all Mr. Summers had wanted. Memories of love in an ever-locked room, though? Were they any closer to discovering a means of replicating the real thing, he wondered. Curious though he found it, it was hitting close to home. Best not to think of it anymore.
