"Well that works perfectly, I'd say!" Arden said, "That's me as well, can't wait for this meeting to start so I can start working." Arden was reilly looking forward to working, but she wondered how much longer she'd feel that way.
Millie just smiled at Arden. "i'm the same way! wondering when this is going to start."
Millie just smiled at Arden. "i'm the same way! wondering when this is going to start."
Arden gave a small laugh, at least it wasn't just her. "I've just been doodling until it starts. Honestly I don't really know who any of the people in charge are. I know Mr. Bole of course since he owled me with his congratulations. I don't know what he looks like though... I should subscribe to the Daily Prophet..."Arden said, shaking her head. Surely she sounded ridiculous, not knowing what the man looked like.

"dont feel too bad i dont know what the man looks like either! haha" Millie laughed
"Well I can only assume we'll find out when this whole thing gets started... I didn't realize how early I got here," Arden remarked, realizing the time she'd been sitting there.
"That must have been a very interesting experience realizing your coworker and boss at that was a Squib. Me - I only had to do desk work, so I think I was safe on that part...nothing too magical to do with finding tax evasion - rather boring actually." She admitted with a shrug she wasn't one to sugar coat her old job not at all. She rather hated when people did that. "Glad he suggested you work for the MLE" she smiled. "Originally I went into Law because my father was against it...imagine a normal wizard not wanting their only daughter to have power in the magical government."
"Well, how did he know I'm a wizard is the thing that interests me," he chuckles jokingly. "Your father was against you joining MLE? There must be something why he did that..." Dean shrugs before letting a sigh. "My mother didn't encourage me. But she wasn't against it either."

Isobel frowned, eyeing on of the new employees. Really? She crunched her way through her last carrot stick as she thought over what he had said. "Just applying for auror training doesn't mean everything." She mused, glancing at Evander. Part of her was glad that this new employee wasn't an auror. They didn't need people with thoughts like this really. "Being an auror takes a lot more than just having good training." She would know she was an auror.
Isobel smiled at the new employee though. "Welcome to the department."

Emily couldn't help but over hear the conversation... Heh... newbies. Growing up in the Browne family she knew what it meant to be an auror, and Izzy was right it took a lot more than training to excell in the position. Heck, she knew she'd have her work cut out for her... and even now she wasn't sure if she would be good enough for aurorship.
Smirking she continued munching on her veg, relishing the flavour of the crisp green capsicum in her hand.
yeah i didnt realize how long we've been here either
Arden nodded, noticing the snack table she had completely passed and didn't notice. "That food looks appetizing... I'll be back." She got up and walked over to the food. She grabbed a little plate and put a muffin on it. She stared at the table, hungry, but not wanting to take too much.
She looked around, surveying who had taken how much of what and if she was one of the last ones to get food. She shook her head and grabbed another chocolate muffin and started walking back to her seat.

Yes she didn't like her father....but that was another story. "Well I'm sure no one would encourage in this day and age when they know the scrutiny the MLE gets for well...not being cult-friendly." She shrugged her shoulder she'd never be cult friendly. Nope not at all.

Ah, yes! The Cult... For some unexplained reason, Dean is in someway obsessed to know what they are up to. Perhaps it is the actual reason why he joined the MLE in the first place. He hasn't been in the Wizarding World for two years. Take or leave a few months.
His face turns solemn. With a whispering voice, Dean asks Chelsea seriously. "Could you tell me more about the Cult? It doesn't have to be here though since there's too many people. Maybe we should have coffee..."
He has been here all along *amused* Sorry for the delay. I've been very ill.

"Try not to scare them off so soon." Of course he was joking around with his boss, but to emphasize it he smirked slightly, seeing as how he was pretty new to the department. Hopefully he wouldn't pull a Damien on him, but he figured he wouldn't.
Glancing around, he spotted Emily and took a lean on the wall near her, not saying anything and beginning to eat his muffin. Mmm...
Blaise got a grunt in response to that... but it was a fairly friendly grunt. Van stayed quiet though and continued to wait for more people to arrive.

Yes, he would have preferred to have sat in a dark room with only his thoughts - although they weren't getting him anywhere either... so maybe this was a good thing. Yes. Positive attitude. Right.
Walking slowly, cautiously, into the conference room Jaxton shot a very very small smile in Van's direction before he moved into the far corner of the room. He didn't recognise anyone in the room - Damien wasn't there yet - so that meant that they would all probably assume he was a shy, newbie - not that he'd been a part of the Department for almost two years.
Oh well, today he was quite happy to be a wallflower but at least this way, they would know who he was. Sort of. This wasn't really who he was... but he was him right now.

Shindig? Van's eyes flickered to Dryant, but he didn't answer. Yes part of the point was for people to get to know each other, so technically the 'shindig' started as soon as they entered the room, but perhaps more importantly, it'd start when Evander Bole bloody well said it would start.

Isobel smiled at the new employee though. "Welcome to the department."
"And on that note," Van spoke up loud enough to be heard, returning Izzy's glance, "We shall begin."
He had taken a mental list of who was not present, and aside from a few who weren't starting for a few days, they would hear about it.
"I am Evander Bole, department head of Magical Law Enforcement, former Hit Wizard and Undercover Operative, and you are the best the Wizarding World has to offer." He paused and then added, with a grin that contrasted his imposing appearance, "Or at least the best that the Minister's Office allowed to slip through into my hiring pool. In any case, I know all your files intimately... and I'm glad to have all of you here on the team."
He meant it too. Van was nothing if not strict with his standards. Training was important.
"So welcome, and if you haven't, help yourself to the food." But also, pay attention, right? Heh.
"Now I know there is much which is overwhelming here on level 2, and much going on in a political sense," He meant the cult, "Which makes things a little unstable, but I'll do my best to be available to you, as will your division heads and the senior staff members."
And just to be sure...
"Here with us right now we have Gabriel Vartann, head of security." He gestured at Gabe. "Ryan Chambers, head of the Improper Use of Magic Office," Watch out ladies, Van thought to himself dryly. "And Dorian Tamerlane, Chief Inspector of Counterfeit Magic and Equipment Control."
He indicated the three men in turn.
"Wesley Ferguson is the head of the Magical Law Enforcement Squad and Hit Wizard division," and Dacs got a quick nod of acknowledgement there, since she had been working so hard covering while that role was unfilled, "Laurie Henderson is the Director of Prosecution for the Wizengamot, Benjamin Amsten leads our Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office and most of you know Damien Jackson, our head Auror, who is taking a leave of absence for a short while. In the meantime, acting Head Auror is Isobel Montague."
Were they paying attention? He looked around.

Roxi snapped right to attention when the Department Head started talking. She wished already that she'd brought something to take notes with.
What?! What was that about the Minister's Office and letting people though? Something seemed off about that…
At least Mr. Bole seemed sincere about being glad to have them.
A lot going on in the political sense? Roxi was curious as to what exactly was going on. Whatever it was had to be serious if the Minister's Office was interfering.
She nodded and smiled at each of the division heads (the ones that were there, anyway) as they were introduced.

Wes looked up from picking his second muffin apart when Van finally started the meeting. Good man, introducing the important people and whatnot. He swallowed hastily and gave the room a nod and a wave when his name was called.
So Damien's absence was official then. Well. Congrats to Izzy on being his temporary replacement. He knew she had wanted the job.
Wes leaned back in his chair and tried to refrain from swiveling too much as the meeting continued.

Esme lifted her brow in surprise. Izzy was to be acting Head Auror? How wonderful! She tossed a smile towards the woman and decided that she would have to officially congratulate her later.
It might take her a while to remember names and faces, but not too long. She usually had a fairly decent memory when it came to things like that. She studied each of those named, trying to commit their names to their faces.
She leaned back into her chair, unable to keep from feeling pleased that she, and everyone else in this room, were amongst the best. There was pride to take in that fact.
Ben fell silent as Mr Bole began speaking. He looked around at all of the department heads in turn, observing their faces. He didn't know any of them, apart from Wes, Ben's own boss, he made a mental note to greet them all later.
Who's Damien? Ben really needed to get up to speed with the happenings around the department, he sat down on a chair, eagerly waiting to hear the rest of what Van had to say.

Emily watched the newbies as Van kicked off the meeting. Committing faces to memory was a priority... she didn't like surprises. She was eager to see how many aurors they were getting. Surely they'd egt somone else, aside from Chosen, to make up for their slightly diminished numbers. Damien, in her mind was worth at LEAST two.
She gave Izzy a small smile. Yeah... she knew Izzy wanted the job, so it was nice to hear that she would in fact be acting Head Auror. A celebratory drink later perhaps?
Chelsea was listening intently - of course she knew the Politics were a little topsy-turvy about now. Well how couldn't she? Because her roommate was a former MLE official as well. And now, atleast she knew who her superior was. Wesley Furguson looked like a nice guy.
She would have to introduce herself to Wes later - it was only the polite thing to do. Offer a handshake and a name for the new Pensive girl...mhm. She was eager for all the information they were going to get today...and taking notes of course notes on what her job entailed, notes on how to act, who to avoid...outside the department of course she wanted to be safe. Not get written up for just breathing someone's air.

A hush came over the room as Van started speaking. Gabriel stuffed the last piece of muffin into his mouth and chewed it quietly. It filled a gap. He nodded along as the new people were addressed, nearly snorting at the little Minister's office quip. Yes, he was surprised actually that MLE were allowed to have any new recruits - considering the high regard with which they seemed to be held.
But then his own name was mentioned, causing Gabe to sit a little straighter and smile at everyone who wouldn't have a clue who he was. Raising his hand in a small static wave of greeting, he then sat back and folded his fingers together across his chest. His eyes wandered to all the people that Van was introducing, finally falling on Izzy. So she was going to be taking over, for now, from Damien? Gabriel made a mental note to congratulate her later.

Legend didn't have time to reply to the person who had been talking about him. Because if he did have time, he would have given him a piece of his mind. Lucky for the guy Evander spoke up, bringing the attention back to him.
Legend listened carefully as names and really important jobs were listed off. Now...how was he suppose to remember all of that? Was he suppose to take notes? Nah, he hadn't even taken notes when he was in school, his brain would remember somehow.
And..Damien wasn't here so Izzy was filling in? Huh. Good too know. He didn't know either of them too well but Izzy seemed nice enough.

Lights observed everyone with a little smile. She'd been unnaturally quiet today, listening to the chatter while eating a muffin. They were really good, but not as good as her sister Eleri's. They would have to be pretty awesome to top that. Lights smiled sunnily at Gabriel Vartann, her boss, she supposed. Well, obviously, since she was in Security. Lights glanced around, wondering if anyone else here was in her division. She'd seen a few Security Officers in the Atrium, and as far as she knew she was the only girl. Hmm.

They were good. Van approved in general of the hush that fell and the respect directed at him that came with being quite and listening to what he had to say. He wasn't one to tolerate disrespect after all.
"Now some of you may not be aware of the responsibilities of other divisions here in Magical Law Enforcement. We have seven divisions and each is just as important as the other." Really. It wasn't all AurorAurorAuror. Comparatively, though they were the highest train unit and most specialist of all of the MLE, they were the least important in day to day business. They just got more of the credit.
"On the noticeboard there is a list of the divisions, feel free to copy it down if you wish or refer to it as you please." And hopefully they'd duplicate it by magic and not handwrite the whole thing. Waste of time that would be. He indicated the noticeboard behind him and shifted slightly to one side so that he wasn't blocking it. "Any questions about the different divisions before I move on?"
SPOILER!!: Division descriptions
Welcome to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement!
Magical Law Enforcement has always been one of the more popular career paths in the Wizarding World, many believe it to be quite glamorous and exciting, with much danger and plenty of heroics. However, there is far more to a career in Magical Law Enforcement than that, after all it isn’t just about enforcing the law, it’s about understanding the law. A career in Magical Law Enforcement breaks down into one of five areas, Policing, Tactical, Investigation, Legislation or Surveillance, and within these areas there are plenty of job opportunities.
In the British Ministry, the offices which come under the jurisdiction of Magical Law Enforcement are:
- The Office of Counterfeit Magic and Equipment Control
- The Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office
- The Improper Use of Magic Office
- Magical Law Enforcement Squad
- Auror HQ
- Ministry Security
- Wizengamot
Each of these areas offers many opportunities for advancement, though specialist knowledge and training is required in some roles. Law Enforcement is an exciting and rewarding career, so read on to discover what might be the right job and field of interest for you.
-------------------------------------------------
The Office of Counterfeit Magic and Equipment Control (CMEC)
Originally created in 1996 and previously known as the Office for the Detection and Confiscation of Counterfeit Defensive Spells and Protective Objects, CMEC plays an important role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the Wizarding public. Former Minister for Magic, Rufus Scrimgeour established this office in response to the growing threat of Lord Voldemort and the rise of dangerous or dubious spells and products which claimed to provide protection against the Dark Arts during the Second Wizarding War. Its duties have evolved to include liaising with the Dept. of International Cooperation to aid in the prevention of illegal magical trade, analysis and identification of counterfeit magic and magical artefacts, working with the Department of Accidents and Catastrophes to identify the root cause of incidents caused by counterfeit magic, the certification of Dark detectors, and the standardisation of magical defensive measures. CMEC is divided into two teams; the Investigative team and the Analysis and Assessment team, and is overseen by the CMEC Chief Inspector and the Department Head of Magical Law Enforcement.

The Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office (MMAO)
The Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office regulates the use of magic on Muggle objects and is tasked with keeping items that had been bewitched away from Muggles. To this end, members of the Office often participate in raids to keep Dark magic items out of circulation. They work closely with other divisions and offices across the ministry including the Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee and the Portkey Office where required. The Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office is divided into two Bureaus, one tasked with work in the field, confiscating Illegally Modified Muggle Artefacts, and the other tasked to regulate and provide assurances that legislation regarding the use of enchanted Muggle Artefacts is compliant with international Magical laws and standards.

Improper Use of Magic Office (IUMO)
The Improper Use of Magic Office is tasked with investigating offences against the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery and the Statute of Secrecy, as well as maintaining the Animagus Registry for Wizarding Britain. The Improper Use of Magic Office deals with offences that are more regulatory in nature than criminal, but will cooperate with MLES where required if offenses escalate or are committed by a wanted criminal. IUMO provides opportunities for field work as well as office-based work and is particularly suitable for those who have studied magical laws and regulations.
-------------------------------------------------
Magical Law Enforcement Squad (MLES)
The Magical Law Enforcement Squad is tasked with general law enforcement, the investigation of suspected crime in the Wizarding World and the capture of dangerous Wizarding criminals. Divided between Hit Wizards and Patrol Officers, the MLES ensures that Wizarding Law is followed to the letter and works with other specialty divisions within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement where required if the criminal activity overlaps. Hit Wizard is a specialty role which requires in depth training and high grades in school to get into the training program. Patrol Officers do not need to go through the same initial in-depth training, and may work through the ranks to be accepted as a Hit Wizard once the Department Head judges the field experience matches the required training. MLES employees may work undercover, patrol Wizarding Britain, and participate in covert operations as required.
-------------------------------------------------
The Auror Office
Aurors are an elite magical law enforcement unit tasked with protecting the Wizarding World from dark wizards and witches. They specialise in the identification and defence against dark magic and are taught to use any means necessary to take down a dark wizard. They are licensed to use even unforgivable curses if a situation calls for it.. It takes three years of training in order to become an Auror and this is usually done at a specialised training institution, of which there are several in the Wizarding World. MLE employees in other divisions may undertake training if they wish to become an auror at the discretion of the Department Head. Some of the required subjects include Stealth and Tracking, Advanced Magical Combat and Concealment and Disguise.

Ministry Security
Formerly part of a now defunct department once shared with the Maintenance office, The Security office has always existed in some form or another in the British Ministry, but it is only in recent years that it has become a necessity. There are many roles in Ministry security ranging from the Wand Weighers who work in the atrium, to special event security, internal liaisons and internal investigations specialists, sentinels and level guards. Some of the security work requires specialty knowledge while other positions are entry level. Because the employees of the Security Office must work closely with Law Enforcement, and indeed are required to undergo much of the same training, the Department of Law Enforcement has recently absorbed the Security Office in order to ensure it operates to the highest of standards and the British Ministry is as well protected internally as Wizarding Britain is protected externally.
------------------------------------------------- Wizengamot
The Wizengamot is wizarding Britain's judicial and legislative authority and serves both as high court of law and parliament. A branch of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, there are fifty members in the Wizengamot at any one time, made up of important personages of Wizarding society. They are only summoned to the ministry when required and in most cases, only a selection of the fifty will be called upon at any one time. The Wizengamot wear plum coloured robes embroidered with a silver letter W when court is in session. Aside from the Wizengamot itself, the division contains the Wizengamot Administration Services office and the British Office of Wizarding Law. The Wizengamot Administration Services office employs a court scribe to sit in on Wizengamot sessions, manage the Wizengamot roster, and work with all departments across the ministry, via the Department of Magical Law Enforcement in regards to setting court dates and hearings for offenders. They also help source mediators, lawyers and advisors as required by the wizarding public. The British Office of Wizarding Law provide courtroom prosecutors, mediators, documentation experts, and legislators as required by the ministry. They work closely with the International Office of Law found on level five.
