Albert Kettleburn EraAll historical records pertaining to Ministry of Magic RPG under Minister for Magic, Albert Kettleburn [IC January 2081 - December 2086; OOC June 2013 - January 2015]
Another year, another orientation…although it honestly surprised Amethyst a little that she already was thinking like that after only having been at the Ministry for a year. Sometimes it felt like more, but then she’d been kept busy by all the goings-on regarding the election and everything involved with that. Not to mention Jemma, now that her daughter knew Parker was nearby and kept reminding her of the fact. She had never felt like she wanted to avoid her ex, but it was just awkward considering he’d had to find out about why she’d left Chicago through other means than herself. He’d heard about her pregnancy through other means than herself, and even three years afterward, she still felt a little guilt over that. Especially now, that she’d started building relationships with coworkers again.
She knew proper form would have been going up to the head table to introduce herself to the new Minister, yet she’d chosen to stall. There were several people there who were new to her, as well, which only added to the reason she was in the lounge area, nursing a flute of elderberry wine she’d snagged from the buffet instead of doing her duty. The night was hardly over yet, so she had time.
Gregory wandered around the party which was much better than the last one he went to or maybe he was a lot less nervous now. Though he still didn't know hardly anyone here. Maybe he really should get out more. Looking around he spotted Amethyst and grinned.
He walked up to her and smiled, "You look as bored as I feel," he said with a chuckle. "Should have told me you'd be here we could have gone together." He kissed her cheek and smiled. "You look fantastic by the way."
The red head beamed at the sight of Jazz and she hugged her back. "Oh they were great! I was just making plans with Jory... we moved in together and all and...well," She stuck out her hand to show her friend her ring which Jory had proposed with not long ago.
Jasmine smiled and remembered going to their little cottage house. It was an adorable first home to have as a couple. Jasmine hoped to find someone someday who would love her. It is every girls dream right? She smiled widely at the ring and always loved seeing it. "Oh my this ring is always gorgeous.." she examined it on her ring finger. "Jory is of course one lucky man. I gotta ask you, you guys thinking of having children in the future yet? Orrr you focusing on your careers for now?" I mean she needed to be prepared if her best friend was gonna have kids. She would buy them lots of gifts.

Maybe by the time he was old and grey he would finally have the two-step down pat.
"Ah, almost a fellow floormate. I'm on level two, an Auror with the Law Enforcement Department." Not much more explanation needed there. He knocked heads together when it was required. As for her department, he knew little about it and even less about what sort of work was involved in her position.
Tucking his hands in his pockets, Sabel made his way over to one of the chairs and perched on the edge of it. "So, a charms developer? I'm going to admit to ignorance here, but what exactly do you do? Do you invent new charms?"
Somehow, he had always thought that the list of charms there was, was it. Sort of like how muggle science had a list of rules and laws and that was it. There were no more to be found once they were all found, and no one could make them up if they fancied it. He often forgot that magic worked in the same way.
If people could invent charms, well that brought on a whole new dimension to his understanding of magic. And just how did that work?
Jasmine laughed and couldn't have agreed more. "Don't worry I don't think I was born with the talent to dance. My mom tried to get me to dance at formal events and it just didn't happen. I was a stubborn child." she grinned sheepishly. Ooooh so this guy was an auror!? She smirked to herself and knew it all along. "I knew you were an auror. You just had the certain look." Now he was curious about her floor. She wondered why it wasn't anything special. She nodded at the charms developer and smiled and would of course explain her field for him. "Well a Charms developer is just like it sounds, we just go into our cubicles in the ministry and experiment and make charms spells and they need to be approved of course. Yes we can invent charms." Nothing too complicated about that.
"So tell me about your line of work. It must be more interesting than mine I assume." she smiled.

Sabel smirked as he shook his head. "It isn't something that seems to get better with age, is it?" Even with practice, it just took some people a very, very long time.
But what was this? "A look?"
Sabel blinked at the woman as he tried to sort out what she meant. He looked like an Auror? That would be a mighty big problem, especially given half his job was trying not to look like an Auror. He glanced back towards the buffet table, trying to see the other MLEr's. It was hard to say whether or not they looked like Aurors, or Aurors-to-be, too given he was so used to seeing them. A look. An Auror look.
He scrubbed his chin. "Strange, I thought I gave that up by avoiding the sunglasses." He was going to have to work on that.
So they did make Charms. He was looking at one of the inventors of magical spells. Wasn't that just something? Though she made it sound pretty mundane, what with the talk of cubicles. Cubicles seemed important though, to help contain the blast radius of charms gone wrong, or protect the integrity of creativity from co-workers until said charm was done. "You know, I had no idea that the Ministry did that. What's the best charm you've made?" Or was that top secret?
As for what he did, Sabel laughed. "I'm not sure about more interesting. We Auror's just use the charms you make to catch lawbreakers." He wasn't going to say bad-guys, because that too encompassing of a term. Some of the people they ended up catching were just misguided or ignorant. Most of them though, fell into the category he failed to use.

Jasmine grinned and shook her head and replied, "That is something that probably gets worse with age. I meannn we could go out onto the dance floor now and see how terrible we are.." she suggested. Something tells her she would say no buttt let's see what Sabel says. She heard his questionable tone when she mentioned he had the look for an Auror. Jazz nodded and meant what she said. "Yeah you just have the essence and looks to be an auror in my opinion. It is not a bad thing at all!" she added hastily. She also liked the humor and she giggled at that. "Hmm I would like to see you with the sunglasses and I will tell you if it hides your auror looks." She had no problems helping him.
"Yeah most people don't really know what we do but I can't really go into too much detail. Sorry Sabel I can't really say too much yet. I have recently just gotten hired so I am still working on spells with my partner." she grinned sheepishly. She wished she had something cool to say but she didn't. She had to be honest. Jazz heard Sabel laugh and she smiled. She made him laugh! That was a good thing yeah!? She beamed and nodded. He did have a point. "Very true. I mean I guess we both can save lives huh? Something in common I suppose." she shrugged and eyed him even more. She couldn't stop looking at him for some reason.

Nobody had bothered to speak with her, but then Amethyst hadn’t found that entirely surprising. It wasn’t as if she was the type to stand out in a crowd, and in some ways she preferred that. She could talk to people, yet she didn’t see the need to interrupt any of the conversations going on in the lounge area around her just to speak. There was still the matter of going up to introduce herself to the new Minister, and the several new faces she saw up at the head table. Until then, she was fine with her glass of wine and just sort of observing the room. Maybe it was a remainder of her former profession that led her to feel the need to be aware of everything, or just being a mother of a three-year-old. The reason didn’t particularly matter.
Until someone had finally approached her, and she’d turned an inquisitive look toward Gregory as he’d spoken. “Not bored,” she corrected, the soft hint of a blended accent still coming through, although the Scottish lilt was even stronger now that she’d been living there a year longer. She imagined her accent would never fade, even though it had been possibly decades since she’d been back to either France or Italy. “I hardly see how going out to Queensferry to meet me just to return to London would have been easier for you,” she pointed out, as he’d made his comment about them both being there. She would have hardly missed coming, given her job position and everything, and the changes that had happened in the Ministry. She’d blinked as he’d kissed her cheek, anyhow, surprised. “Thank you.”

Gregory smiled at her and part of him wished that she would smile back. It seemed like she never smiled. Well obviously she had before but at least then he would have known she liked him back. SIIIIIIIIIGH. None the less he was still going to try. "Hmm if not bored than what then," he said with a grin glancing around the room. Seemed pretty boring to him anyway.
He laughed as she said it wouldn't be easier. "Well I have already done that so...wouldn't be any more difficult either." Hmm where'd she get the drink he could use one. Maybe he should've walked to the food first. "You're welcome," he said quietly and smiled. She really was gorgeous. "How's your daughter doing?" Next time he came over he was bringing a gift for her. Yup. Was going to happen. Well, if there was a next time. Maybe he was getting a bit ahead of himself.

Things were awkward. Amethyst knew that, just as much as she knew there was no way Gregory could have known exactly why it was awkward. It was all on her, but then, she didn’t think it was right to just outright tell him that she’d been in a relationship with a coworker before and it had ended badly. He knew she had a daughter, but not how Jemma had come to exist and honestly, she felt more comfortable not getting into that. Especially since she knew it would have been oh-so-easy for parker to decide he wanted to work for the Ministry again, if a different one than they’d worked for before. It was simpler to just keep everything more casual, not worrying about what might happen. “Just observing. Working up my courage to introduce myself to the new Minister and anyone else I might find myself working for or with,” she responded lightly, taking another sip of her wine.
She’d noticed the woman at the place of honor next to the new Minister, after all, and that she was decidedly not Gavin. It only piqued her curiosity, but first she’d laughed softly at his little quip. “True enough, but I feel my point still stands as well.” She’d found her way here on her own safe enough, after all. She wasn’t weak, and she felt she’d proven already that she didn’t need a man to do things for her. Another moment of surprise occurred as he’d asked about Jemma, though. It seemed he was accomplishing that much too easily. “Jemma’s well. She’s back at home, likely irritating her uncle with pretending to be Merida,” she answered, amused at the thought. But then, Léo was just as likely to play along.

Well it does seem like he and this guy have hung around the same neighborhood more than one time "I live in a wizarding town near the Catskill mountains." it was unplottable see, one of the few spaces where they were still free to be Wizards without Muggle prying eyes. He nodded his head at the mention of his current Alma Mater "Finishing my degree at Salem too, just a few more credits, wrap up my thesis and thats it." and then he's a full fledged Engineer woohoo!

"Nice to meet you too Nadia. It's going good, thanks for asking." Ahh, so she was a part of the Wizengamot team...well...not necessarily actually judging people, but the other woman still helped out in the Wizengamot area. Either way, that was a pretty nice job. "That sounds amazing." This was nice.
Not even half way done with the night and she already met another new person! This was absolutely incredible! Hopefully this would be a nice year at the Ministry. Annabelle already knew she would be busy being a Personal Assistant AND a Liaison. Though, those weren't very difficult tasks now that she truly thought about them. All she really had to do was report straight to the Department Head, and basically act as an agent between the Departments. Which was fairly simple.
Praying to Merlin, the ex-eagle wished that she'd be able to do more than that. Annabelle really hoped to help work out on the field to help catch some dark wizards or do some spying for people. Thankfully, the French Metamorphmagus had training in stealth-like missions. The woman made a pretty decent escort too.
Nadia smiled sweetly at the woman. "Have you met anyone else in our department yet?" She hadn't but she was hoping to meet the department head tonight. Nadia had all of these different questions and she just didn't know who to ask. It was so much different than working at Beauxbatons but this was what Nadia had gone to Wizarding University for, Magical Law. She hadn't forgotten what she learn even with teaching Divinations.
"Have you met our Department Head yet?"

Nathan nodded. "So you still live out there? Is the time difference weird for working out here?" It was like five hours different, right? That sounded pretty annoying to keep up with. "Nice.. Nate was about to say more when he thought he spotted Eliora.. Mmhmm on the Dance floor though. "It was nice talking to you, But please excuse me. Maybe i'll see you around." He said to Vickers, preparing to head off and seek out Eli.

"I'm Emmalee... Emmalee Quinn," she said, extending her hand. She wondered a bit about the most tactful way to essentially introduce herself as the new boss. "There'll.. be an announcement once the Ministry reopens, but I'll be taking on the Department Head position in the new year.."
"Nice to meet you, Emalee," Ronnie replied with a smile, shaking her outstretched hand. She then raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really?" She asked, cocking her head slightly. Shouldn't she have been told this or something? Hmm. Ah, well. "That's awesome! I can't wait to be working with you then." She beamed.

Emmalee nodded. Yes, it had been a rather sudden shift over the holiday break. She'd thought it best to wait until people had returned, rather than send an owl - transitions in leadership tended to make people nervous and who wanted to spend their last few days of holiday worried about changes at work?
Besides... Emmalee had been a bit... personally occupied.
The woman nodded. "Yes, Bryce apparently had an opportunity elsewhere he couldn't refuse," or something. Emmalee wasn't actually entirely sure why he'd left so suddenly. "I don't want to keep you with work conversation," she smiled. "It is a party, after all. But... do come by my office when we reopen? There are some things I want to discuss with you. All good."
