Why would the employees of the Magical Creatures and Environmental Department need cushions? It was obvious in Legend's mind. OBVIOUS. They didn't need cushions. The cushions were not environmentally friendly and so plotted together to get rid of them. Maybe turn them into some kind of design for their new plots?

Yup.

That was exactly why Legend had snuck into the greenhouses. Making his way past the plants in the warm room he blinked most of the plants unfamiliar to him. Clearly years of taking Herbology had gone to waste. Legend made his way through the first greenhouse into the second. And then the third, and yet, still no evidence. Still no ripped cushions plastered against pots to make a great design.

What was with that?

He was about ready to turn and leave when something jolted in his head.

Of COURSE.

Why would they just keep the cushions out in the open? No. Then the MLE could go and get them back, and they of course didn't want that. He had remembered reading in some papers before the Cult attack (ones that he hadn't been sure if he was suppose to read) that there was a passage in the greenhouse, hidden by trees? Leaves? Legend quickly began to push aside the tree leaves and vines, stepping in some wet soil in the process. Just image if one of the employees caught him? As he pushed away a few more vines, the nineteen year olds eyes lit up. Bingo. He grinned, pushing the vines completely out of his way before he stepped into the passage, the vines closing up behind him as he did.

This would be amusing if he wasn't... well it was like this with all of them wasn't it? Women. At least she was nice enough and he followed not far behind, slowing only when passing her to enter first. And sure she could take on the whole of his greenhouses with a single swish of her wand, but that didn't mean he was going to let her.

He moved stray vines and branches to the side, moved other plants away completely with slight flick of his wand until there was enough space for her to pass through to the clearing without injury.

Althea now had a sudden appreciation for how neat Seren kept the greenhouses back at Hogwarts, but to her credit she didn't say so.

Instead she smiled appreciatively when he cleared the way though, as if he were being a gentleman and holding the door or putting his jacket down so she could step over a puddle or something, and in she went.

It was kind of amazing that they were underground.

"Do you make use of strong sunlight charms?" She asked curiously, immediately interested in the magic which made such a large underground greenhouse viable.

"This is just one of the greenhouses, houses the larger and more deadly variety." He made a motion that said she was free to roam a bit if she liked, but the sectioned off parts of the greenhouse were still forbidden.[/color]

Well see now that was interesting. "You know, if you're ever interested in tweaking or experimenting with any of those charms, I'm sure a few of my charms developers wouldn't mind working with your people." And she herself, if she could spare some time, even if it wasn't her particular area of interest.

It really was a sizeable facility, she was impressed.

"So tell me, Rafael, I'm afraid I don't know all that much about the responsibilities of your department or how it overlaps with that of other departments, I don't suppose you'd mind laying it out for me?" She did want to know. The more she knew the better she could facilitate interdepartmental relations and cooperation to achieve better results.

"I don't mind at all. There are a number of responsibilities we're tasked with, and almost all of them involve another department on some level. We have a team dedicated to making the ministry more environmentally friendly, finding better ways to dispose of waste and the like. They work with Maintenance and can often be found educating the public on being more environmentally friendly as well. With International Cooperation we provide information on what plants and a few other substances can or cannot be legally imported and exported through Britain."

He led the way through to greenhouse one, letting the smaller greenhouse speak for itself as he continued briefly describing what it was his department did. "With creatures and law enforcement we have a few divisions that keep in close contact with them, as well as your department. Habitat Managers mostly maintain the wards on habitats and sanctuaries within Britain, and work with our Enviro Rangers, who you could say are our own police. They make certain no plants or creatures are being harmed, that there is no illegal building, and for some areas no trespassing. Creatures department often accompanies them on routine visits, and takes over if the situation is strictly in their field.

Law enforcement of course handles all the legal side of things, and your department usually assists should muggles come into play, see something they shouldn't have. MLE also works with my permitting office should we find someone building without the proper permits, and the liaise with your department. My dangerous plant removal agents have worked with creatures in the past when harmful plants and animals have been found in the same area." A slight breeze wafted through the greenhouse, but Rafa's only acknowledgement of it was to brush aside the curls that'd fallen into his eyes. "I've told you that our Botanist work in here creating and experimenting with new plants for potions, and a small team of workers is charged with maintaining the plant life in here. Our Oceanologist are the explores of the department. Traveling to aquatic areas all over the globe to find new plant and creature species, mostly for the advancement in potions on our part, but also for research in other areas."

Climate controllers supply temporary weather conditions for government events, and they also assist yours with extreme magical accidents of the environmental variety, particularly when it involves our habitats and sanctuaries. There are other tasks within all those divisions and of course they work alongside other departments besides the ones I mentioned, but that's their jobs in a nutshell and what our department covers on a daily basis."

"Perfect." She approved then. He didn't seem to be just blowing smoke, so she approved. And professional, she approved of that too.

Althea listened attentively to his summary as they walked and nodded appreciatively and in understanding as he covered each division and some of the interdepartmental overlap.

"Its really a wonder your department wasn't established sooner. It seems to be in some ways we should be thankful for the legacy that the cult left behind." And really it was a stronger government now too, with more support overall.

"And what is your particular background, Rafael? If you don't mind me asking." And even if he did. Speak up regardless.

"So I have heard." Althea nodded once. "I was in Australia for most of the cult's ascendancy, but you could say I'm friends with Evander Bole and Isobel Montague, they kept me informed." Really though as long as it didn't get directly in her way... well.

She shrugged one shoulder. "I'm a firm believer in credit where credit is due." That was an understatement, but it was simply because she'd worked damned hard to get where she was, and hated when people belittled it or acted like she hadn't earned it. The ones that implied her success was due to her looks? That especially annoyed her.

Thea nodded and waited for some elaboration.

Ah there. She smiled at him for that little bit of manners and spoke as she stepped through into the main work room.

"Oh really? Where did you study? I once knew someone who specialised in Ethnomycology, and teaches a few papers in that and in paleoethnomycology and in Ethnobotany in general." She laughed a little and there was... a slightly bitter cast to it. "Not my field I'm afraid, though I'm experienced in Spagyrics -Plant Alchemy that is, so that would be the limit of my involvement with plants and the like."

Rafael had kept the room locked a bit tighter thanks to the infection that was spreading throughout the minsitry. Stepping around her he pulled out his wand and murmured a few words, the glass doors sliding open soon after. "Well we share responsibility of this level, so you should at least know how to get around it entirely. And if something should happen to me, you'll be able to watch over it until I can return." Which would actually be useful to him when he went on extended assignments.

Stepped aside he let her enter first, and then followed behind into greenhouse one. "There's three greenhouses with too many plants to name or number. If you ever want any for your level, just let me know and I'll send a few over." He glanced over at Lady, but didn't pay her much mind since she now knew how to behave in the greenhouses.

Rafael wasn't going to show her, they were something he never showed anyone unless they absolutely needed to work with them and even then he himself preferred to have extra experienced hands. By then, Ella was facing Rafael again with a smile playing at her lips as she reminisced about the past.

That was the first time I had traveled in almost eleven years." There was a reason behind that, actually, but she wasn't entirely sure Rafael would want to hear it, especially at work.

"Maybe when this infection blows over you'll be able to take a vacation," Ella said with a hopeful smile. That sounded like a lovely idea.

Annalise needed some time to clear her head. Boys were so... confusing. She stepped inside the greenhouse, admiring all of the plants as she walked through, moving vines with her right arm. "Helloooo!" She called out. "Anyone in here?" Maybe she could find some company.

While she spoke, he went to work, filling the pot with soil and summoning over some seeds to sprinkle into the pot. Then he drew his wand and cast on the pot. Turning his eyes back to Ella he waited patiently. "I've been to a few of those places, mostly this side of the world, though I did go to the Americas a handful of times. How was Everest?" Yeti watching? Sounded like unnecessary danger.

"Maybe," Back to Spain probably if that ended up being true. "Though I'm not bothered if I don't get a vacation anytime soon." The seeds in the pot began to grow through the top soil almost immediately, and Rafa turned his eyes back to it, giving it a distant glance. The flowers continued to grow at a slow (yet faster than normal) and steady pace until it blossomed into a beautiful plant.

He nodded at it approvingly, and slid the pot over to Ella. "For your office."

Hearing someone enter, he glanced over his shoulder then rose to his feet when he spotted his employee. "We are here, Annalise. Looking for anyone specific?" Had she been looking for him? He hoped not too long if so.

"Well.. actually, come to think of it, I was looking for you.. sir." Annalise replied nervously. "I was wondering... if you needed me for anything...Plant removal and all..." She babbled on. "I have my paperwork done, and now I'm just trying to see if there's anyone needing my services..." She grinned, Annalise really LOVED her job. And hopefully, within the next couple years she wouldn't be just a Junior Plant Removal Agent... One could only hope.

Sigh.

"Oh, and I was wondering if.. uh... they got the drooling people under control?"

Ella's eyes followed Rafael as he began filling a pot. Was this the one for her office? Because she was rather excited if that was the case. Her case was similar to his. She hadn't been to the Americas that much compared to other places. The eastern hemisphere seemed to have more exciting creatures anyway. "Everest was incredible," she said, a small grin lighting her face up. "All that cold, fresh air and wildlife..." Sigh. "Absolutely amazing. You ever been?"

Tucking her fingers into her pockets, Ella shrugged a little. Now that she had a vacation, she was already looking for an opportunity for another one. Unlike Rafael, she would be bothered if she didn't get another vacation soon. "I'd like to go back to Spain soon," she said quietly with a small smile, even though he didn't ask. It would be nice to see her mother again. But her thoughts were distracted when she realized that the seeds Rafael had planted moments ago were already transforming into a beautiful plant. "Wow," she said, clearly amazed, another grin spreading across her face. "It's beautiful, Rafael. Thank you very much, it will look lovely in my office." She smiled some more ~~and moooore and, whoops, was that blush?~~ But... WHY? It was just a plant. ~~From a very attractive man.~~

Ella was soon distracted when she heard someone else in the greenhouse. She turned to see a one of Rafael's employees she had seen a few times on the level. She was thankful for the distraction, so maybe Rafa wouldn't see her blushing for no apparent reason.

Ella wondered if it was time she headed back to her side of the level. Employees were looking for Rafael , so maybe it was best, even if she didn't really want to quite yet. But... there were 'drooling people', like she said. "We are... working on it, as a Ministry." She glanced at Rafael and hoped he didn't mind her answering for him. Though, he was free to add to it, since her answer probably wasn't very reassuring.

Deciding that she really should get to know the layout of her department and what's contained inside a little better, Roxanne set out to tour the greenhouses. They seemed to be the largest rooms in the place, and smelled of a heady mix of earth, flowers and different fertilizers, with the strongest smell surprisingly being earth. Wet earth. Which she didn't find unpleasant at all. Really pleasant, actually. She wondered around and through each of the greenhouse, marveling at the collection of both muggle and magical plants, stopping here and there to care for those that really needed it and smelling of the safe flowers. It was when she reached the last greenhouse, containing trees and vines, that she received the biggest surprise though. Tucked away behind the low hanging branches of an oak tree, was some kind of passage. What was that doing there and where did it lead?

Well, only one way to find out. She ducked under the branches and entered the secret passageway, slowly and carefully making her way up the stairs.

As you step into the greenhouse, everything seems to be completely normal. Until you take a closer look, that is. Then you'll realize that certain magical plants (like that Venomous Tentacula over there), are less lively than usual. If you step even closer, you'll find that there are teeth marks in the leaves (and tentacles). But the mundane plants, like the marigolds, are perfectly fine.

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE HAPPENING TO THE MINISTRY NOW?!

The first place Roxanne stopped in at upon coming back from her mental health vacation was the greenhouses. Hopefully, someone had been watching them while she was gone, they were only plants after all, and couldn't take care of themselves.

At first glance, everything seemed alright. But then she looked closer. Was it just her or was the Venomous Tentacula oddly still?
