The Buffet

http://i1148.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3sofj0jm.jpg

A short distance away from the dance floor is a long table adorned with a mouth-watering display of canapés on tiered stands, both savoury and sweet. However if you’re after something more substantial, dishes of mediteranean vegetable quiche, chicken sliders, smoked salmon volovants and beef kofta with tzatziki drizzle are found beside the fine china and silverware. If you’re feeling parched, sparkling crystal goblets invite you to try one of the various bowls of colourful punch which range from deep oranges to delicate pinks. If you’re after something a little more refined, flutes of elderflower wine are also available.

For anyone! :)

Alana Ritter, in all her glory, walked into the area of the party and headed straight over to where the food and drinks were. She had quite the trip here and she still couldn't believe that she was one of the first ones there.

She smiled at the dance floor from across the way and decided against going over there just yet unless someone asked her. She really didn't want to be the weird new one who danced by herself. She was all about impressions and that was definitely not one she wanted to present.

"How extravagant." Alana said, in her thick German accent, as she looked at the table of different food. Instead of going for the food, she walked over to where the punch was and picked up one of the sparkling crystal goblets. She filled it up with the deep orange punch and turned around, taking sips from the goblet as she watched more and more people fill in. Maybe she'd meet some people from her department that she'd be working with.

Anyone can say hi!

Michelle decided to safest area to hang around was the Buffet. She's been to a few of these kind of functions with her parents. She knew that everyone came over to where the food, was located. Michelle wasn't an extremely shy person, but she was a little uncomfortable coming to a party, where she knew no one. She did hope, by coming to this party, she will get to know some of her co-workers , so her first day at the ministry was TOO awkward.

She also knew that the newly-elected Minster, Sherman Clark, was here. She probably should introduce herself to him at one point tonight.

Michelle then started to walk down the buffet table, to see what kinds of food and drinks are being offer.

Woooooooooooow, The Ministry of Magic. Sure Lex had been here maybe once or twice--but it didn't count because she and Lottie had had to wear Visitor's Badges and had to be directed around. Now she worked here, all legit and official with a badge to boot! Needless to say she was beyond herself with excitement. This had to be one the best nights of her ENTIRE life. As of today she was on her way to being an AUROR. How freakin' cool was THAT??

Only thing that wasn't cool...was wobbling around in heels. Merlin who's idea was it to make this a 'fancy formal event'? Every few steps was a wobble and she didn't think she'd be getting any better considering heels were usually not a factor in ANY part of her dress. This was hard--and so was wearing an actual dress. Ugh.

Just think about the Auror life, Lex.

By some great miracle she made it over to the buffet table without hurting herself or anyone else for that matter. That's when she spotted two people already there. "Hi!" NEW CO-WORKERS because she had those now! Eeeep! "The name's Alexa...or Lex, doesn't really bothered me. New YATI, I'm technically in charge of making sure no one dies tonight!"...Okay...so maybe not for another three years...but she could dream.

*sigh*

.....EMBER DANCED HER WAY FROM THE DANCE FLOOR TO HERE.

She was talented like that.

She almost bumped into the table, too---but luckily she was sooooo tiny that she hardly even MOVED it. HEHEHE. The young woman giggled and glanced around---SERIOUSLY? Where was the boyfriend? (...he was her boyfriend, right?) She assumed....so? They had never...actually said it aloud. But they did couple things...so...

Pfffft.

She kept her hips in tune to the music playing and WAVED REALLY EAGERLY AT ALL THE PEOPLES HERE.

"HI!" she cried at one particularly PRETTY woman [Alana]....nice dress, lady! Ember's cheeks were like...hurting because SHE COULDN'T STOP SMILING! WORK WAS FUN AND IT WAS ALL SO FUN and she MISSED ALL THE FACES!

Though, these three women looked unfamiliar.

"HI HI HI!" she waved more and SQUEAKED during the last hi, bouncing up and down SOOOOOO excitedly. She was waving at ...one YOUNG looking person [Alexa] and another lady---WHO LOOKED SO NICE, TOOOOO! [Michelle]

TONIGHT WAS GOING TO BE GREAT.

It was one of SImon's favorite nights...the one that marked the return to work and hopefully normalcy in the ministry. Sure he enjoyed the break but sometimes he got a little stircrazy by the end of it despite the enjoyment and company he had during the moments away from his work. Speaking of company, he seemed to have lost his beautiful date somewhere between the front door and his current new location which proved to be the source of this evenings food and drink.

Surveying the spread, he picked up a glass of some sparkling juice beverage absently to have something in his hands. It was then that he let his gaze survey the premises almost naturally slipping back into routine. The task at hand...keeping an eye on things here much like his job called for during the working hours. There were more than a few new faces that the security man was sure to keep an eye on to encourage familiarity in his mind. He might get to now them later on.

One of the trio caught his attention, the mention of YATI guiding him to move towards rhe group of new faces. However it was the comment this young woman...Alexa...said next that caused a slightly raised eyebrow that he was quick to relax to play along. "Yes...quite pivotal she is..." he mused aloud, making his presence known before casually taking a sip of his drink.

Alana continued sipping on her punch, humming a quiet song to herself when she noticed another person [Michelle] had joined in looking at the food. She was about to ask her about how extravagant it looked but a tiny girl in BRIGHT red heels woke her up out of her thoughts and started rambling miles a minute.

WAIT. She was in charge of them to not die? Alana wasn't hopeful. She cleared her throat and gave a small smile, trying not to show that she was worried about who was taking care of her tonight. She heard a comment made by someone next to her [Simon] and she couldn't help but smile. So hopefully it wasn't true. Hopefully. "Lex...is great to meet you. A YATI? Vat s'that? My name ist Alana. On-lee Alana. I'm in dee Department ov Mysteries." She nodded, giving another nod to the girl and guy next to her.

Out of the corner of Alana's eye she noticed another bouncy, young girl coming towards her and she wondered if she could run at this point. She hoped this girl wasn't in her department with her or else she wouldn't know how to live. To think that she thought herself was excited and happy was hilarious at this point.

She couldn't just stop talking to the younger girl in front of her so she stayed put and gave a smile once the other bouncy girl came towards her. She jolted a little once she gave a loud HI and put a hand on her own chest. "Hi...this zing? Its nothing." She said, looking down at her dress and smiling. "I'm Alana Ritter. Dee Department ov Mysteries." Well maybe having happy, young, and crazy people talking to her wasn't so bad. At least they weren't mean or insulting potions or charms.

Constant vigilance, that's what Lex was doing so OF COURSE she saw when that one danced her way over to the rest of them yelling 'HI's like they were nobody else's business. Where did SHE work?? WERE THEY CO-WORKERS TOO??? "HI!" No reason to NOT greet back as enthusiastically. Man, people in the Ministry sure seemed happy. Obviously she was going to love her job. It still felt kinda weird saying it....a job...but she had one now AND WAS GONNA BE AN EPIC AUROR!

Lex wobbled a little while shifting to get out of her way but held on to the table for support. Play it cool Cambridge, they were just heels. "Name's Lex, brand new YATI in charge of saving your life." Yup. She had a badge and everything. "D'you work in MLE too?" Because how cool would that be?

Lex whirled around at the new voice, nearly toppling over when her feet got confused because of the heel issue they were still trying to work through. Did he....did this guy...just agree with her? Well then there you had it, she was obviously super important to everyone's health and he had to be from MLE as well because otherwise how would he know she's pivotal, y'know? It was a bet she was willing to take so Lex stuck her hand out with a grin. "Alexa Cambridge." Unfortunately there was no need to repeat her title because this one had obviously heard.

Some time later she would thank him for playing along. "And you are....?"

The look didn't go unnoticed, not really and not when Lex was so keen on everything out of pure excitement. So maybe she wasn't currently the best person to offer protection but it was now in her job description and one day she'd be SO amazing at it that she'd be known world wide and would have a whole bunch of people trying to kill her in any one week. A danger life admittedly but how epic would that be, huh?

"Um...YATI...it'a like....Young Auror Training Initiative...or something like that, I didn't read the whole letter just the parts where my name showed up and my job description." Everything outside of that was a blur because she was too excited to process most anything. "It's really just a fancy way of saying I'm an Auror in training and I'm gonna be awesome one day." Geddit?

Oh but hold on, this woman worked in Mysteries?? That's where Lottie's aunt worked! "Cool! So then...you're one of those Unspeakables who can't ever talk about their job?? What'd you do??"

BanaBatGirl 02-15-2015 05:17 AM

*pretends to not see anyone* but this post IS FOR anyone :D

Meh, he was here. William was feeling pretty bland about this Ministry thing. The old guy had won the election which was also meh. Meh meh meh. Even Willy's clothes today were meh. Gray, fancy clothes stuff. Meh. Pretty standard.

He wandered over to the buffet first. Maybe his blood sugar was just low. He needed food to liven up. Willy picked up a plate and started piling stuff on it almost blindly. Aww, no chocolate fountain this time? Oh well, he'd eat anything. And everything. That was a promise.

For Anyone

Carol made her way to the buffet table, casually glancing at the food and drinks on offer. She picked up a flute of elderflower wine and turned away from the table as she wasn't in the mood for food just yet. She casually watched her fellow Ministry workers interact with each other.

lazykitty 02-15-2015 05:49 AM

For everyone here so far!

FOOD. Yep, that's where Sky could be found this evening. Apparently along with everyone else. Not that she minded one bit. Just that it was getting a bit harder to get to certain things. And she was sticking to the chicken sliders. Too much red meat and all that plus not recognizing the fish things. Plus, a deep red concoction that tasted like.......strawberries?.........to wash it all down with.

Was that Alexa Cambridge holding court down there? Not surprising really. And she would make a good Auror one day, too. If she survived that long, that was. Anyway, Sky turned to the guy beside her (WWW) "Hello. Hungry there?" Just an innocent question there.

Ah, so there was one face Simon remembered from previous years. If he was not mistaken, the woman was from creatures and had made his appearance at least once up on level two to her detriment. That energy and overall friendliness was hard to miss and mistake for someone else. "Good evening," he said, giving her a more subtued greeting of his own.

Was the other one...Alana, smiling because of him? Simon was curious since the expression came after he spoke up yet he didn't let it show. Best not to reveal too much to the new people. Especially the fact that he was actually going along with a half-truth spoken by a new recruit who was technically a subordinate. Or had been if one limited it to the Auror division.

Nope...nothing to see here? Nothing out of the ordinary.

He instinctively reached out as the new YATI seemed to stumble over her own feet as she turned to face him, his arms ready to catch her should she start to fall. New job and obviously getting used to new footwear too. "Nice to meet you in person, Miss Cambridge," he replied with a nod of acceptance at her greeting, still vaguely going along. Simon accepted her offered hand with his own and gave it a polite shake.

"Simon Bennett. Department liaison and Security," he returned, offering both name and title. As if one of those who truly did work to ensure ministry workers were safe and didn't die. It felt weird not to include the auror bit, even moreso then when he had to gave the whole slew of titles he held. But then he and Emily had talked about his move before the break and it was to be official this time around.

Were people really judging him for his tastes AGAIN. William looked up from his stack of meat plate and gave a frown to the girl beside him. "Excuse me, are you even old enough to be at this event?" Or did she like... WORK here, at the venue? "Sorry if you're here to refill everything I took. I think you're out of meatballs down there."

He did a mad balancing act and held his plate in one hand so he could point down the length of the table with his other.

Well, that was RUDE. "Excuse me, I was just trying to start a conversation. And yes, I AM old enough to work here! In fact, I'm in the Auror training program!" So THERE! Though, Sky was flattered that he thought that she didn't look any of her twenty-one years. 'Cause sometimes she felt more like thirty-one.

"As for the meatballs, sounds like a personal problem to me. May I suggest you check your head?" BURN!

Carol was silently watching what was going on and was admiring the young Auror-To-Be's fieriness. The guy wanting meatballs deserved to be scolded like that, in Carol's opinion.

Carol turned towards the table, picked up a plate and placed upon it a smoked salmon volovant and a chicken slider. She also grabbed a glass of tropical punch.

He wandered over to the buffet first. Maybe his blood sugar was just low. He needed food to liven up. Willy picked up a plate and started piling stuff on it almost blindly. Aww, no chocolate fountain this time? Oh well, he'd eat anything. And everything. That was a promise.

Especially the fact that he was actually going along with a half-truth spoken by a new recruit who was technically a subordinate. Or had been if one limited it to the Auror division.

Nope...nothing to see here? Nothing out of the ordinary.

He instinctively reached out as the new YATI seemed to stumble over her own feet as she turned to face him, his arms ready to catch her should she start to fall. Alana looked back over to where the man [Simon] stood and couldn't quite grasp what was up with him. He didn't even smile back at her and she wondered if he was one of those men who didn't smile that way they could look mysterious. She had met plenty of those guys back at university. Not worth the time, really. She decided against smiling again at him in case it would weird him out and then looked back over at Lex.

Alana couldn't help but be amused as Lex explained her job. She thought the 'YATI' sounded like 'yeti', like the urban legends of the yetis living up in the Alps where she lived. Obviously those weren't true, but fun stories to tell the muggles. So wait...she didn't even read the entire letter? How promising. Alana hoped that at the end of her training she would be trusted because she was definitely not hopeful for this girl. Not one bit. "'M sure you vill be. It sounds like hard vork." She nodded. It was true though. An auror was definitely not something Alana would ever think of doing. Too dangerous.

An unspeakable. That word just made Alana brighten up and she gave her a biiig smile. "Yes ov course, that's me. If I told you, I'd hav to kill you." She laughed. But really, it was a BIG secret and she wasn't really allowed to tell anyone.

She listened in on Simon and Lex's conversation and couldn't help but notice when he stated his job title. Oh...so that's how they would relate. Alana couldn't help but try to mentally give luck to the guy who would have to tone down Miss 'I'm going to be awesome' over here.

She looked over to where another person [William] had joined the buffet table, eating quite a lot, and watched as a girl [Sky] started talking to him. She was about to join when their conversation started to get pretty heated and she gave eye contact over to Lex, mentally saying, 'Aren't you supposed to protect our lives here?' Yeah...she'd stay out of that conversation, unless they were talking about how good the food is. Which by the way, she needed food in her...now. Unfortunately, the food was where the argument was taking place but...food.

Alana turned around and went down, carefully, to where the food was and also a person [Carol]. "Hello." She said, politely with a smile. "Hav you tried ze chicken?" It looked delicious, but she needed confirmation before she ate something awful. She occasionally gave glances over to where the meatballs and the guy with red hair and girl with brown hair were. Don't come over here, don't come over here.

Carol had just taken a bite out of her chicken slider when a woman with a slight German accent greeted her. She quickly swallowed her mouthful and smiled.

"Hello there. I'm Carol. What's your name?" Carol replied.

Carol had only taken one mouthful of food so she wasn't too sure if she had the knowledge to advise the woman but she decided to voice her opinion.

"Well, the chicken slider is pretty good so I recommend that."

She hadn't thought he was a man interested in politics but then again she hadn't exactly gotten to know the man very well in the short time she had been working on level 3.

Heading for the very crowded food and drink section Sophie stopped in front of the beverage selection. Eyeing the punch she asked nobody in particular. "Is the punch drinkable?" As in safe?

She looked back down over at the chicken and then back up at Carol as she said the chicken sliders were good. "Great, zank you. ...Vich department are you een?" As she listened to Carol, she heard someone ask if the punch was drinkable and she turned to see another woman [Sophie] with a gorgeous dress on. "Dee punch is-t absolutely drinkable. *For anyone already here or anyone else ^_^*

It was the second time this year that his formalwear had been brought out of the closet. Second big event of the year, though technically first of the new year. But in all things considered, it was probably the one Sabel was looking forward to the least.

Parties were an iffy subject at the best of times. When meeting new faces, and catching up with old faces he hadn't seen in ages, it was a bit of a different story. As dull as the office could get, he would have preferred said meetings to occur there, on a normal Monday morning.

As tempted as he had been to skip the event, Arya had convinced him to go and he had arrived not as fashionably late as he would have liked. It seemed the evening was still young, and the energy was boundless. Hopefully some of it was infectious.

Having once heard that having a drink at these types of events made one appear more sociable and friendly, Sabel made his way over to the buffet table. That, and he had caught sight of the back of Bennett's head and naturally deviated towards his partner. After all, MLEr's stuck together. It was simply safer in packs.

Who the man was surrounded by, however, Sabel couldn't hazard a single guess. All young, pretty ladies with an overabundance of energy. It made him smile a little as he nodded to Simon and sidled up to the table. What to drink, what to drink?

Apparently the punch was drinkable? Sabel's eyes drifted over to the woman who had asked and to the one who had in turn, answered. Well that was good news. And a good start to any celebration. No poison.

May as well go for it then. He picked up the ladle and a glass and paused, looking up. "Can I pour anyone else a cup?"

"Nice to meet you Alana. Department of Mysteries, eh? Sounds very exciting. I work as a magical product tester in the Department of International Magical Cooperation."

Carol placed her empty plate back down on the table as she heard a dark haired man (Sabel) asked if he could pour anyone a cup of punch. Carol could do with another glass as some food was caught in her throat.

"I'll have a cup of punch, thanks. Any colour,"
Carol said to him.

It was nice he'd gotten ready to catch her and all, you know in case she face planted on the very first night then no one--absolutely no one--ever took her seriously again but thankfully she'd gotten a good grip on the table so she just kinda grinned and brushed it off. She had this, totally had this and was ready to start making lasting impressions with people.

Oooohh!! Security! So then....he WAS in MLE as well! fbgdzsktrcgiue! "Security, huh? Does that mean you go on patrols that take you all over the Ministry?" Or was he the kind that just stayed down at the entrance checking wands. Might have asked him that too but the way she'd phrase it it might come off as a little rude so she let the question stand.

"What are my chances that something will go wrong around here?" Because let's face it, after 7 years at Hogwarts....she couldn't do a normal life. It was impossible and she refused. Auror stuff was meant to be THRILLING!

Pffft, hard work was like an understatement when you considered everything an Auror would ultimately end up doing. It was just so much and thinking about it now got the former Gryffindor all kinds of excited again. Could work start like...now? Could some Dark Wizard barge in, curses blazing and the whole nine yards? It may not lookit but Lex was SO ready. "I'm prepared for all the work. Heard the training's intense and can mess with you psychologically too but that's half of what makes it epic and what makes you revered when you finally get it done." That and the fact that by the time the training's done you know how to break someone's face in without leaving fingerprints so they kinda know they have to listen to you if they know what's good for them. It was a beautiful thing.

The fact the woman would have to kill her if she told her had Lex's eyes widening in wonder and awe. "No kidding? Well tell me anyway. I can take care of myself, honest. You could try killing me after and I'd survive and we could both go on about our lives." That was how it worked. Alexa had been in and out of so many near death experiences that she was sure tacking one more one wouldn't do her in...not yet.

The look the woman cast at her got her a little more alert. Was something happening? WHAT DID SHE MISS?? Oh man, first day here and she was already falling behind.

While searching for whatever might have been the cause of the woman's nervous glances, Lex spotted someone asking about the punch. Was there a reason it shouldn't be drinkable in the first place?? You think they'd tell the people in charge of their safety things like this but apparently not? Merlin.

"I saw someone else drink some and they haven't dropped dead yet. I've watch 'em for another 5 minutes or so just to be sure but...I think it's fine." Helpful Lex was already being helpful and this lady was SO welcome.

"You can pour me one." Lex offered to the new guy to join them at the table. At the moment she wasn't feeling thirsty but what if by the time something epic did happen she was so parched she was of no help to anyone? "And could you pass me one of those cupcakes over there?" He was standing closer to them and apparently in a generous mood tonight. Bonus!

"I'm Alexa by the way, but you can call me Lex 'cause most everyone does. YATI for now but I'm gonna be Head Auror one day." Speaking of, where was this current Head Auror? She needed words with him, proper words.

"Do you know Simon? Are you in MLE too?" Nice faces were lovely to work with. Very motivational if she did say so herself.

And then Lex finally found out what Alana had been so worked up for a minute ago. This could be good. Hopefully it got far enough before one of them decided to be the bigger person because then she would be NEEDED and would be at a perfect angle to simply swoop in, make arrests and all that fancy stuff. Merlin this was exciting.

Until she caught the guy saying something about MLE being the rudest at events? "For real? Like, it's a legit thing, documented and stuff?" Had to be sure. What if...it was like....in the job to be rude and she was botching up this whole evening throwing away smiles like they were candy--scratch that. One did not throw candy, ever, but you got the point.

But there was something else too. The other one was a YATI!! So of course she had to tack on a "Hello." but it was meant for them both because making friends first then being rude and keeping her job and afterwards getting Head Auror. It was all a cycle.

Holmesian Feline 02-15-2015 04:19 PM

No quotes cause its crazy- Everyone

There were more familiar faces around.[William and Sky] An older man from creatures and a certain second year YATI who sometimes left something to be desired in her attitude. Might come from her relation to Roxanne but still. For now, Simon was going to keep the two of them at arms length. There were already enough people immediately around him almost as if he had an audience with them. Alana looked back at him and he offered a polite smile this time in case she was concerned about him. He was plenty friendly even if he wasn't the most open of people.

There was a friendly familiar face in the form of Sophie and he smiled at her as well. Another woman nearby that wasn't his girlfriend which he hoped didn't look weird to the casual observer. Especially if Jorge was around as Mariel's companion. Simon was about to answer her question when both Alana and Alexa beat him to it. "Mhm...I believe they learned their lesson from the past." You know the incident that made people ill from the food of the food court.

Simon wasn't aware of his fellow MLEr and friend at first as Sabel was behind him. It was only as he turned his gaze to one side to notice other that he caught sight and returned the nod. The other former Gryffindor was more than welcome to join him. Even out the gender odds a bit so he didn't think it was totally awkward.

His attention back to Alexa as she responded to his title, SImon nodded again. "Yes, that is one of my main duties." That's how he knew a lot of the faces that were returning year after year. That and helping oversee the wandweighers when he ventured down to the atrium office to see what was what. As for her second question, he couldn't help but be amused. Let him guess...Gryffindor. "Depends...though most years theres been SOMETHING interesting that happens. "

Zombie illness...crazy healers from Mungos...chizpurfles...you name it.

Hearing what she was saying to Alana about the training, he decided to add his two cents. He was a former auror and fully trained in that job after all. "Yes, indeed it was and still is," he confirmed before taking another sip from his drink. Simon bit back a chuckle when she spoke up to Sabel asking if he knew Simon. Yeah old friend...do you know me? He refrained from speaking and resumed observing as Sky and William were drawn into the mix.

Carol placed her empty plate back down on the table as she heard a dark haired man (Sabel) asked if he could pour anyone a cup of punch. Carol could do with another glass as some food was caught in her throat.

"I'll have a cup of punch, thanks. Any colour,"
Carol said to him.

Well, he hadn't intended on taking up the role of punch-tender tonight, but if that could keep his mind occupied and his general being out of trouble, then so be it. Plus, it gave him a good opportunity to meet people and keep an ear out for interesting conversations, of any sort or caliber.

The one of which he was most interested in, at the moment, being between Simon and his groupies. Yeah, he didn't want to get too close to that one unless he knew what was going on. It would make it easier to pull Simon out if the guy needed a quick escape too.

Smiling at the woman who had taken up his offer, Sabel picked the pinky-red punch, because that was the color punch was normally supposed to be, filled a cup and passed it to her. "Hope it tastes good."

Really, he had no idea. So, sorry if it didn't. He didn't make it.

SPOILER!!: William and Sky

Oh really? Since when did an insult constitute a conversation starter? And she was an Auror-to-be, great. William rolled his eyes and took a step away from the buffet. He'd just lost his appetite, thanks. Well, maybe only his appetite for meatballs.

"Figures that you're MLE," he said back to the girl, picking up a toothpick and stuffing it in the corner of his mouth. "You're always the rudest ones at any event." Probably thought she could say and do anything and get away with it because no one could arrest her. That was how her dept. worked. That was how Browne had run it.

He shook his head and walked away. William would eat this elsewhere. Maybe in that coat closet.

Just as he finished handing the punch over to the woman, his attention picked up on the rather heated and pointed words of a man standing nearby. The MLE caught his attention, turning his head and his eyes. Oh really? Really.

Well he didn't know the girl the guy was going off on, which meant she was a newbie to their department, which technically meant that Sabel didn't owe her any loyalty or anything. Except that she was part of MLE and well, regardless of a lack of history or knowing one another, they stuck together.

He gave the man a hard glare, glad that he was walking away. There were enough Aurors in the vicinity to take the snot out of the man, and that really would prove a horrible start to the night. And put a point of truth on the man's words.

Pouring another cup of punch, he offered it to the woman. "Pay no mind to him. MLE has a mixed representation because they are harshly diligent, not because they are pricks." Well, not most of them anyways.

SPOILER!!: Alexa, Simon & this group :)

And then, there was this one. This one standing near Simon. One of the ones he had wanted to watch before deciding if it was safe to engage in conversation with. The over-excited one.

A drink, and a cupcake? He glanced to the cupcakes beside him and supposed that it couldn't hurt. He poured the punch first and picked out a blue icing cupcake. Blue was safe, right? Turning he handed them both to the girl, about to return the greeting with a smile and name of his own until the words YATI and Head Auror came out of her mouth.

Hesitating, Sabel looked from her to Simon with a is she for real, legit, not joking, because that sounded like a joke. And did he want to answer her questions?

You know, secrecy and all that fun stuff. Keeping a low profile, despite the fact that once your face was known in the ministry it remained known. But there were new people here, and starting a conversation without the bias of the Auror occupation shadowing it could be very insightful and helpful. Plus, Sabel hated politics and politicians, and this night was ripe with them.

Letting out a sigh, Sabel poured himself a cup of punch, and watched the young girl from over the rim of his glass. Oh to tell or not to tell? Yeah he caught that smirk from his friend. Apparently they were thinking along the same lines. How much was too much information?

Sabel decided it was best to be pleasant. There was nothing worse than getting the cold shoulder from a senior employer on one's first day. But that didn't mean he couldn't have a bit of fun.

Lowering his cup, Sabel extended his hand with a smile. "Sabel Dakest, Ex-Convict." He motioned to Simon. "Know this bloke? Sure do. He wrote up my arrest warrant few years ago. Now I'm out on probation, and he's babysitting me. Even invited me to this shingdig. Right, buddy?"

His smirk went to Simon, as he clapped him on the shoulder. Was he going to play along? And what was this? No more Auror title? The man got an eyebrow raise for that one. Well, at least he hadn't dropped out of the department. That was a relief.

His attention went back to the retreating man and he couldn't help but roll his eyes at the new YATI's comment. "No, it's not a legit, thing. They can be quite polite upon arrest. Don't believe everything people say about them." If so, she was in for a wild ride. "Right Simon?"

Back him up, buddy. Back him up.

this is for anybody here but special shout out to Lex ^_^

Vickers brushed off his sleeve and ease up his scarf as he entered the party area, now already filled with people, faces new and not so new. Other than the protein drink he had that morning he didnt really have had much that day, hence him making a beeline for the buffet table.

He helped himself on the smoked salmon for a bit, trying not to look like he was stuffing his face in as he idly took note of conversation around him. There was that guy and a girl that seemed to not have a nice conversation to which the guy walked out-- that was a first. And then chit chats of which department they belonged to-- new Ministry employees likely. And then there was THAT VOICE that sounded like she will take command and charge in with the cavalry--

-- it was incredible. Has it been that long already? He was partying at the Ministry with little Lex Cambridge.

Of course she isnt so little anymore.he's still way taller though

In the gladness of seeing an old Hogwarts friend, Vickers gave the Gryffindor blond a little wave hello with his drink, which spilled ever so slightly onto the floor. Oops.

I am too lazy to reply to everyone individual... So this happened

Michelle was right. The buffet table WAS popular. She nodded at the people who said "Hello" to her She wasn't in the mood to repeat herself. So to save everyone's time, she blurted out, in her "Hello. My name is Michelle Harrison. I just moved to London, from America, I just got a job in the Magical Transportation department"., loud enough for everyone around the buffet table. 'There that should cover everything.' Michelle blushed when the realization of what she just did hit her.

Turning to glance at the blond woman beside her in an equally fancy dress Sophie nodded. "Thank you. Which punch flavour did you try?" It was hard to tell from just looking at the woman’s glass. Holding out her hand for a shake Sophie said with small smile pursing her lips. "I'm pleased to meet you Alana. I’m Sophie Connolly. I work in Accidents and Catastrophes."

"What does the Mysteries department do?" Sophie couldn’t help but ask. She had always wondered that but had never asked but now she could since she was standing next to an actual employee of the Mysteries department.

Sophie was happy when at least one familiar face in the form of Simon, made his presence known by her side and also answered her punch question. "Hey Simon!" moving to give him a friendly hug in greeting, she asked as she pulled away from him. "You're not on security detail tonight?"

Cue more spilling of his drink.

Ok so she's new, and loud typically American but kindred spirit this one is... well sort of. The former Ravenclaw offered his hand as he introduced himself "H-Hi Michelle, welcome to the Department of Transportation. I work there too. My name's Vincenzo Vanderbilt. Hey Ju 02-15-2015 06:52 PM

Derek silently walked in, not exactly trying to avoid human contact as he usually did, glancing around at all of the people already there and slowly made his way towards the buffet table.

He was in a uncharacteristically calm mood because he might or might not have taken a tranquilising Potion before going to the event.

Anxiety? Not today.

Didn't mean he was going to go around greeting unkown people. Of course not. His brain was still working. Kinda. Time for some punch? Sure, why not? "Hi, Sophie." The lab technician calmly greeted his co-worker as he immediately poured himself a cup full of the stuff without even stopping to analyse it, as he'd usually do.

Whoa....a part of his duties...."Epic. You must have seen everywhere by now. Are YATI required to do rounds? Can I do rounds with you anyway?" Stupid question, she'd follow him regardless of permission but it'd jumbled out before she could think better of it. There went that whole seeking forgiveness rather than permission rule. Great.

"And what'd you mean they learned their lesson?" Lex heard what he'd replied to that lady when she asked about the punch. "Has it been spiked before...?" If so, she was seriously eyeing everyone who'd already taken a sip and was re-thinking her own cup. Can't be constantly vigilant when you were under whatever potion your attacker saw fit and she needed to be READY!

But back to this guy right here. "What else do you do as security? Have there been any break ins where you've had to tackle people to the ground and wrestle them into cuffs?" Yes? YES? Aurors could do that do, only with excessive force so she wasn't too jealous if the answer turned out to be yes for real but at the same time, how cool would that be?

SPOILER!!: Oh man, Sabel XD

Know something? She was used to that look of disbelief, the one where people felt like she was young and by extension naive among other things so Alexa simply nommed on her cupcake and waited for this one to get over the fact she was going to be running the Auror Division one day. Of course she meant what she said and said what she meant so...whatchu gonna do bro?

"Remember my name, I mean it; Alexa Cambridge. I'm gonna be in charge one day." The look she gave him was perfectly serious too however calm and casual her voice managed to remain.

Lex took another bite of her sugary treat while waiting on whatever introduction he would offer. Wait. What if he was Head Auror? It would explain why he got so weird about her proclamation but no, this dude did one better and had her choking on her cupcake before she put it down completely. "No...freakin'...way." Whatever look she had before was replaced by one of complete awe...almost sparkly eyed actually. "You..." Ex-Convict?? A FREAKIN' EX-CONVICT. "Incredible. What'd they haul you in for? How many'd you kill? What would you do different? It was Azkaban wasn't it? Oh man I've heard stuff about there. More than a pretty face, dangerous too." So OF COURSE she was stepping closer with a wide smile, keeping an eye on this one for sure, for however long he was allowed to stay before Simon made him leave.

"Tell me you used some curses. I've been working to learn as many as I can and YOU could give me suggestions." This wasn't quite the level she hit with Vinteren fangirling but oh my. He even knew that Auror's weren't rude in events. So well read he must have been. Wooooowwwww.

It was hard to believe that something could catch her attention after Mr. Ex-Convict here but something DID...or rather...someone. "Vickers!" Grin firmly in place, Lex waved enthusiastically at the guy she hadn't seen in forever and ages but that stopped suddenly when she remembered she was newly graduated from Hogwarts and he owed her an adventure.

"Oi! Where's my near death experience?? With real monsters." He'd tried arguing about monsters being figurative at one point but she was having none of that. Tell her he hadn't forgotten because it was one of the only things to tide her over in all this time.

JeshieRAWR 02-15-2015 07:55 PM

Literally everyone here. lol

Mess with her psychologically? Could it make [Lex] more calm or would it make her crazier? Either way, Alana didn't want to be near her when she was doing her thing. She saw Simon smile back at her and she was relieved when he talked. Okay, good. So he didn't hate her and wasn't one of those guys who tried to be mysterious. She wondered if the work messed with him psychologically. Maybe that's why he was so quiet. "'M sure you vill be great, Lex. You hav quite the spirit." She smiled at her. It was true, no lies there.

Alana couldn't help but laugh at Lex's facial expression and the things she said following that. "Killing you vould make a mess on dee floor. I couldn't, I couldn't." She said, really amused. "But reely, 'm not allowed to tell. It is very avsome, yes." If only she could just tell everyone, 'OH HEY I'M THIS AWESOME CHARMIST AND YOU BETTER BE SCARED' but in a German accent and yeah.

Once the conversation of the punch being spiked came up, Alana wondered if the aurorers would worry about people like her. She could easily spike the punch with a potion or two since she was specialized in that...hmm...but she wouldn't. No. She was too good for that. Yup, too good.

Another man [Sabel] had come over and started talking to Simon about being an ex-convict. Alana's eyes widened in shock and she hoped that if it was true that Simon was his er...babysitter then she guessed he was alright...maybe. She continued sipping on her punch, careful not to join the conversation and watched as Lex spit out questions like no other at the two men.

Alana then checked her goblet and looked back over at Sophie. "Dee deep orange one. It tastes like er...oranges. I zink." She shrugged. Something else seemed to be in the flavor as well, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. "Nice to meet you too. Accidents and catastrophes? Do you clean up spills or somezing?" She asked. It seemed quite boring if that was what they all did.

Another question about what she did. Heh. "Sorry...'m not allowed to tell. It is very avsome though and I svear 'm not scary because I vork there." She laughed. Some people she had met had thought that she would be this evil and mysterious human being, but she tried to be nice. Nice and uptight that is.

Alana watched as another man [Derek] came up to the punch bowl and started talking to Sophie so she gave him a small smile as well. She didn't want to interrupt their conversation.

Alana turned back to Carol with the chicken sliders and nodded in agreement with her as she said it was nice to meet her. "It does sound very exciting. I can't vait to get started." She smiled. It was true, Alana wanted to get to work now and work with charms and potions and go into the death chamber. Mwahaha. "Magical product tester? Vat is that? Do people make new zings for you and you er...test them?" She guessed. Sounded easy enough.

Out of nowhere, Michelle yelled loudly about herself and Alana jolted back another time. Was everyone here trying to give her a heart attack today? Where were all the calm people?!? She watched as someone [Vickers] had spilled his drink from Michelle's outburst and she shook her head. She muttered German words under her breath, about how she had gotten the Ministry all wrong, as she tried to calm herself down.

Alana looked back over at Michelle and gave her a small smile once she had made herself content again. "How is America? I hav never been there bevore." She asked her.

SPOILER!!: Michelle/Lex/Ember&Simon

Ember didn't NOT NOTICE that the girl didn't even say HI Back. WELL HOW RUDE? Ember personally marched over to her--YOU KNOW, BECAUSE SHE WANTED A HI BACK? and SMILED all big at her.

"Hi. I don't know if you HEARD me before. So.....HIIII!" she squeaked. "Ember Brighten. PEST CONTROL!" she put her hands on her hips in super-hero fashion...because PEST CONTROLLER was almost like a superhero. For the little pests....and for the people PLAGUED by pests. Ember was happy to help!

Ember smiiiiiled at the younger woman. Lex. "Oh---HI! I'm Ember--" she smiled all WIDE and shook her hand and stuff. SUCH OFFICIAL STUFF. "OH...A YATI..." She said, eyes wide. WHEEE. "So you're SCARY and stuff!" she made a fake scary face. "And you MUST know Penelope Greenwell?" she asked.

PENELOPE.

"I know Penelope. She's NICE and WHEEEEE--but your OLD Department head---" Ember made a face. "Scary woman. You're lucky she left. She had no sense of fun. Or of interior decoration." He wandered over to the buffet first. Maybe his blood sugar was just low. He needed food to liven up. Willy picked up a plate and started piling stuff on it almost blindly. Aww, no chocolate fountain this time? Oh well, he'd eat anything. And everything. That was a promise.

IT WAS WILLIAM! Ember LOVED William! HE WAS SO SWEET AND NICE AND SAVED HER FROM A SHOE ONCE.

"HI THERE, WILLY!" she thought he wouldn't mind Willy TOOO much, right?

HEHEHEHE.

"Hello there, Simon!" she said cheerfully. He was a nice guy. Real nice guy. AND he was security, RIGHT? "How are YOU tonight?" she asked as she grabbed a plate to start collecting food from the buffet.

SHE WAS STARVING HER BOOTY OFF.

My name is Michelle Harrison. I just moved to London, from America, I just got a job in the Magical Transportation department"., loud enough for everyone around the buffet table. 'There that should cover everything.' Michelle blushed when the realization of what she just did hit her.

Ember waved at this Michelle woman, too. "Hi, Michelle--" GRIN. "I'm Ember---oh! Transportation--that's so nice!" it was ALL nice.

ALL THE DEPARTMENTS WERE NICE BECAUSE THE MINISTRY WAS NICE!!!

"And from America--wow!" she commented. "I live in London, too, currently." Ember's family was not FROM London, though. Their farm was....a little ways away, as far as England was concerned.

Anxiety?

EMBER SAW DEREK AND ALMOST DIED.

"DEREK!" she may have yelled too loudly. But she dropped her plate(of food) and RAN AT HIM.

AT. HIM.

And then she was HUGGING HIM SO TIGHTLY. "Derek! You saved my creature babies! I NEVER GOT TO THANK YOU!" She was probably crying a little. "Oh what a BRAVE AND WONDERFUL SOUL YOU ARE!" She let go of him to go pick up her plate and...........food. She sighed and wiped her eyes. "You did a GOOD THING, MY FRIEND!"

Long live Derek, the guy who SAVED HER MUTANTS!

Jasmine decided to look at the buffet table first. I mean she was starving after having a long day preparing for the New Year's party. As she looked around for a seat, she found one but she saw others were there too. She smiled but they seemed to be in their own conversation and she didn't want to butt in. She felt it would be rude. She placed her purse down and went over to get the food.

She massaged her stomach when she saw all the food choices. She decided to go slow at first and get the salad so people wouldn't think she was a pig. Then she got some more food and sat down. She would of course go for seconds eventually. She just wanted to enjoy the food.

Anyone who knew Geneveive Branxton at all knew that she'd make a beeline for the food first thing. How was she supposed to hobnob with her co-workers on an empty stomach? The Auror grabbed up a woefully insufficient plate and filled it with a towering pyramid of whatever looked good, nearly running over another woman who looked overwhelmed by all the food choices.

"Marvy, right? Just take a little of what you want now, and you can wrap up the really good stuff in your purse on your way past later. The puff things go stale after three days and anything with sauce is a mistake, but I had dinner for nearly a week after one of these events." Not lately, of course, not since she'd been a poor YATI and trying to keep herself and Selina alive.

Oh. OH A LEX right here. How exciting! Talking to... oh. Merlin.

Mingle. Yup. That's exactly why Legend was here to mingle and jingle and.......eat some pringles because whoaaaaaa there look at the spread!

There was more food here than needed to feed a jungle of hungry lions!

Yup. He was definitely taking half the buffet home with him. Straightening the tie on the outfit that Neptune helped him pick out - because really, there was no way he'd look like this if he had dressed himself. Legend made his way over to the buffet. He already spotted a few of his co-workers so talking to people was a thing that had to happen maybe. But it was so hard. He'd rather hang out with food.

Ooohhh, there was something she didn't hear as often as she'd have liked to. She had spirit, this lady had just said so. "I've been told. I've also been told it'll do me some real good in this line of work so I'm excited to get started." The sooner she could throw herself into the work, the better.

Instinctively, Lex's eyes fell to the floor at the mention of it being ruined if she were to hypothetically get killed there. Funny how she'd actually forgotten about that and about the fact that someone would be in charge of cleaning it after. "Is it some kind of contract? Or an unbreakable vow they make you lot sign when they employ you?" That might have been why she wasn't allowed to say.

"How do you even apply for a job like that if they don't openly say what they have and are all super secretive?"

You know when you asked a question then felt like a real jerk once you got the answer? Lex was having one of those moments right now. "Whoa. Sounds rough." Losing one was bad enough but losing both? Merlin Lex didn't wanna think about what would have happened if she'd lost her father too. One loss was enough.

Even worse yet, she had a sister she had to be bothered with too. For the briefest moment Alexa tried imagining her father passing on and leaving Jessa in her care but quickly came to the conclusion that she'd have abandoned her sister shortly after so best to avoid that subject altogether. Apparently some people actually liked their siblings. Fancy that. "What made you so interested in joining the Transportation section?"

Scary? Lex never actually thought about it that way...wow...her....scary. A few kids had said as much back when she was at Hogwarts but it was hardly the same as when someone in the big fancy world said it. Lex was beaming by now. "I wouldn't really say I'm scary, just totally awesome and fierce and epic!" Not a conceited thought at all, it was simply what it was and what Auror life would do to her. Obviously.

Then she mentioned Penelope and Lex's face lit up. "You know Penelope?!" Smaaaall world inside the Ministry, wasn't it? "She was my Housemate until last year, we were on the same Quidditch team too." And now they'd be on the same training team, it was pretty neat.

To say she was disappointed Emily had left before she could meet her was an understatement given everything Zeke had said about her but right now Lex was too busy being impressed to think about that. "You got banned?? Wicked! What for? Did you set off explosions? Cause someone an arm? A leg?" HOW did one get banned from a level?

From the corner of her eyes she caught the distinctive head of blonde hair make its way to the table. Forgetting the conversations she happened to be a part of at the moment, Alexa fixed her full attention on Vivi with a grin. "I was wondering when you'd show up. You can't rub off on me if you're not here and--and look!" She pointed to Sabel with renewed enthusiasm. " Says he's an ex-convict! How cool is that?!"

A nice looking ex-convict, surely Vivi could appreciate him for this fact too. "Also," because she was curious about this too. "Why are you giving advice on stuffing things into purses?" Should she have been taking notes? Must have been some survival thing for Aurors. If that was the case she needed to start learning that now.

"I don't have a purse, can I stuff my food in yours?" And NEXT time she'd remember her own because this might be official business.

Hey...hey wasn't that that guy that called himself a king when he showed up to the Gryffindor table at the Hogwarts Reunion. "I didn't know you had a job." Actual awe here. What Department did he belong to? Must have been something very showy. She'd probably be able to guess if she knew more about the individual departments. Something to look into for later.

"D'you call yourself a king here too?"

Carol nodded in thanks as she was handed the cup of punch. "Thanks for this. My name's Carol."

It was true, Alana wanted to get to work now and work with charms and potions and go into the death chamber. Mwahaha. "Magical product tester? Vat is that? Carol thought for a moment about how to explain her job. She was still getting her head around it. She then took a breath and began explaining.

"A magical product tester tests any foreign made wizarding object for any faults that may deem it unsafe. I've got to make sure the item functions properly by checking such things as the parts, the charm work on the item, etc," Carol replied. Her face then grimaced.

"I sound like an instruction leaflet," Carol said, laughing slightly.

Jazz heard her advice and nodded. She seemed to be knowing what she was talking about. "I will keep that in mind, thank you..." she trailed off and asked, "And your name is?"

As soon as she asked, she saw the woman's attention turn to someone else and that is when someone else caught her eyes.

Jasmine clicked her heels over to the guy. I mean why not make small talk right? This was wayyy out of her comfort zone but she was going to do this anyways. Why not take a chance you know? As she made her way and gave themselves some distance so it didn't feel like she was a creep she cleared her throat beginning to speak. Of course Penelope would gravitate immediately over to the buffet table. She didn't really pay attention to who all was already there at the moment, her focus stuck on the loads and loads of food on the table.

This was only her second time at a Ministry event, but she could tell the food was always gonna be awesome. Thank Merlin, because that would definitely put a damper on this whole event if the food was terrible.

But what to choose first? Always such a hard decision. Hm...

Spirit was definitely something to have in all lines of work, at least that's what Alana thought. Hopefully this girl didn't have too much spirit or else Alana felt bad for Lex's co-workers. "'M also very excited to get started. I hav yet to meet someone who I vill be vorking vith. It seems like only MLE people are here." She said, looking around them.

Contract? Alana never had signed a contract or had made an unbreakable vow...yet, but she wouldn't let Lex know that. The more mysterious the better, right? "Pretty much." He was one of the few really trusted to patrol down in the Department of Mysteries. Level One and Games had been off limits for some time but he believed at last check they could both be free to him once more.

Ugg...maybe he shouldn't have made that comment. Simon debated the right way to handle and explain the matter. "There had just been an illness associated with some things a few years back. But all safe now." They wouldn't be as lax about things getting in as they had apparently been before if he could help it.

"Assist with wand weighing and scans if needed, run internal investigations." That sort of thing.

Simon kept a neutral look the first time Sabel had looked to him. He could fill his friend in on his opinion of the new YATI later for now he was keeping his part in that play going along well enough. Smirk or no smirk of amusement, he was lucky when the other man decided to speak and explain how they knew each other that Simon hadn't been drinking lest he spit the contents out all over the place. As it was, Alexa nearly choke beside him in reaction to the news.

Sabel...a convict.

That introduction was bad enough. But himself...the arresting and parole officer of Sabel for the night. That cut the cake deeper. It seemed it was tease the underlings time for the orientation and Simon was in on the whole gag. "Yep," he agreed as Sabel clamped his shoulder. "Out for decent behavior and I figured if he behaved here, it might encourage him to stay good and have more evenings like tonight." And no...the eyebrow raised was another thing for another time as the security man wasn't even sure what it was for at this point.

"The only ones who think us rude are the one's who listen to the yarn the Prophet weaves." You know, the messes the likes of Jorge and his little underling like to play. But that was enough mention of them for one night, Simon wanted to keep a good mood going else he was going to go off sulking with his girlfriend.

Was he glad for the momentary change of subject as Sophie moved closer to the group. "Hey," he returned, momentarily taken by surprise by the hug before returning it just before she pulled back away. "Not officially...no. But constant vigilence nevertheless." So the phrase predominately applied to aurors and hit wizards...he was keeping it in security.

---------

Oh Ember remembered him. "Hello," he returned with a polite nod. "Quite well." He was being quite amused by what was going on though he was doing his best to simply play along with the butt of everything. Alas her attention changed to another and Simon was free to notice Branxton and Legend hovering around by the food. The former being someone Alexa noticed and dragged into the thick of things. Including the ex-convict Sabel.

Please don't mess with our illusion, he silently wished.

"Oi! Where's my near death experience?? With real monsters." He'd tried arguing about monsters being figurative at one point but she was having none of that. Tell her he hadn't forgotten because it was one of the only things to tide her over in all this time.

Well it seems like it was just old times isnt it? Except swap the Great Hall for the Ministry interiors. But then suddenly Lex went badgering him about "--What near death experience?" he blinked. Why would he give Lex something that sounded so terrifying? "Real monsters?" Clearly he didnt have a clue what she was talking about.... Oh wait "Wait.... wait I remember something......"pause "Ah yes, your graduation present. Right I kinda missed out on that." He forgot? Or had a moment of confusion. It whirls in his head from time to time. "Its.... it was a trip. We could still go. I dont know about monsters but the beasts of the wild can quite raise your pulse."

"Bossman," Genevieve wasn't really surprised to see Legend there at the buffet, not when he was always so much more a man of action than words. And what was the number one action at parties like this? Eating. Obviously.

"Try the meatball things. They have a little kick to them." You know what this party needed? A food tour guide, and no one was better suited to it than Genevieve Branxton.

As soon as she asked, she saw the woman's attention turn to someone else and that is when someone else caught her eyes.

"Marvy... marvelous? Nevermind. I'm Genevieve," she had to juggle her towering plate a bit to offer a hand to the other woman. She didn't recognize her, but that didn't necessarily mean the woman was a new employee. It was a big building, and Genevieve spent most of her time outside the building anyway.

"I'm a little passionate when it comes to food. Sorry."

She was happy to abandon her towering plate of food to give the little lion cub a cuddle. "I don't miss these parties, kiddo. Free food and an opportunity to wear my fancy togs and rub elbows with my boss. It blows my mind to see you here, though. You're still my baby lion."

It was cute that Lex was introducing Genevieve to Sabel, who was a fellow Auror. "I've met Sabel before. He works in our office, and he isn't an ex-con or he couldn't get a job in MLE. Don't believe that line." She made a face at Sabel and opened her purse to let Lex store food inside. Extending charms were amazing.

...I think I got everyone?...

SPOILER!!: Sophie
[QUOTE=Nordic Witch;11724861][FONT="Trebuchet MS"]Turning to a dark haired man that had arrived behind her she said "I'd like a glass of punch too if you don't mind?" Of the least suspicious looking flavour. "I'm Sophie Connolly by the way, Accidents and Catastrophes."

So apparently he was drink server for the night. That was cool with him, though he really wasn't sure why people were still asking him for drinks when he had just proclaimed his ex-convict status. Yeah, Emily would have hexed him by now. Damien, would have been grinning like a lunatic.

He glanced to the punches before picking up a glass, giving it a little twirl and filling it with green punch. Because green punch was safe, right? Especially a strange, radioactive color. "Pleasure, Sophie." He handed her the glass. "Sabel Dakest." And that was enough of an introduction for now.

Thought that facade thing, he realized hadn't been just in front of his fellow MLEr's. It had been in front of other departments. That may be something he should fix....

SPOILER!!: Carol
[QUOTE=Ginevra;11725087]Carol nodded in thanks as she was handed the cup of punch. "Thanks for this. My name's Carol."

Sabel's attention skipped to the woman he had just served punch to, nodding a bit. "Sabel." Er. "Dakest." Yeah it was getting harder to introduce himself to people now that he had gone and opened his mouth. "Nice to meet you."

Less words, Dakest. Less words.

And then there was this girl. This Alexa Cambridge. He was aware of how unintimidating it was for a proclaimed ex-convict to be starting down wide-eyed at the girl, but he couldn't help it. No, he wouldn't be forgetting her name. Ever. In fact, he'd be worrying about it. Every. Single. Night.

This girl....was. Wait, why was she moving closer? And what was with that.......A pretty face? Sabel felt his face heat at the same time his disbelief spiked. Dangerous, yes. At least she got it half right? But what was this now? Curses too? She was working on them? Just....what?

Sabel wanted to facepalm, but he was too focused on trying not to drop his drink in what was a mixture of shock and a great deal of amusement. Honestly, he didn't know whether to shake the girl or laugh at her. She was excited about meeting a convict? Most Aurors or Auror's-to-be wanted to deck a criminal, or give them a hard run-down.

This, was a first. And a problem. A big problem.

And it seemed that she wasn't the only one who believed his story. The other woman in their small circle seemed convinced, but more appropriately reserved. What department was she in again?

As he was trying to untie his tongue to figure out how to best answer the slew of questions so as to hopefully make the girl somewhat afraid of the convict titled, Simon stepped in. Gracefully and without hesitation or pause. Smooth, Bennett. Very smooth. Almost like he had rehearsed this before. Now, could Sabel pull off his end of being the creepy villain?

He wasn't sure. Even the thought of saying some of the things that came to mind made his skin crawl. And he couldn't talk mean, let alone act mean. Not to someone he had no ill will towards. And really, his face just didn't contort into such expressions. From the corner of his eye, he saw Legend and Genevieve approaching. This could either end up in a lot of laughs, or a lot of scoldings. One thing was for sure. Emily would kill them. One-hundred percent kill them if she ever found out.

Clearing his throat, Sabel turned back towards Alexa with his best knowing smile, patting Simon on the shoulder. "Might. This guy's always got high hopes for me. Sadly, I disappoint. Most of the time. Azkaban knows me well." He let out a whistle and shake of his head to accent the point.

As for the rest of her questions, no. Just no. He couldn't even joke about that stuff. Maybe she would be satisfied with a non-answer, though it wasn't particularly terrifying enough to be a good learning lesson.

And then there was Genevieve. In part, he was disappointed that the charade ended so early, but on the other hand, he was grateful to her. He hadn't known what he had bitten off when he had tried to pull the wool over the girl's eyes. And really, he hadn't intended it to work, let alone go so far as Alexa showing him off as her new-found-ex-convict.

And it was no wonder she had blown his cover. It seemed that the two were quite close, what with the cuddles, 'baby lion' and talk of purse stuffing. That was close friend talk for sure. On top of that tidbit of information, Alexa was a Gryffindor. That, explained a lot.

Holding up his hands Sabel made a playful face at Genevieve. Totes adults, here, just having a bit of fun. "Alright, alright. You got me."

Lowering one hand, he picked up Alexa's cupcake to hand back to her with a friendly smile. "Sabel Dakest, honestly. But Genevieve is right, Auror. Not ex-convict." She wouldn't cram the icing topped desert in his face in horrible disappointment, right? "Just thought I'd see what type of reaction I could get."

And it wasn't a good one. Not in his books. Genevieve got a look for that. Was she worried for her baby lion, because he sure was.

The lounge was awfully boring. He almost fell asleep standing so Tyler gradually gravitated towards the food...it look good and didn't smell too bad either but he didn't want any...at least not yet.

It seemed however that he had been in the wrong area...the buffet table was where the party was at..at least the MLE. He didn't get the memo.

And look his own personal tormentor was there...great. He supposed he'd be dangling by his ankles again soon if the man got bored enough.

He grunted a 'hi' of sorts and surveyed the table.

For anyone and Vic ^_^

Another ministry orientation... January probably would have been home sleeping if it hadn't also been the inagural party. She just wasn't feeling it tonight, but she was there because she felt obligated and because she wanted to be around the new minister. And she wanted to be with Vic.

But she wasn't wearing a frilly, tight, uncomfortable or high-maintenence dress. She was wearing pants. But let's face it; January rocked a pantsuit. And she was walking it right to the buffet. She grabbed a glass of elderflowerwine, sure Vic was getting in line to get food or perhaps a drink too.

"I'm Alexa...or just Lex. Official Auror in training in the YATI program. What'd you do in Accidents and Catastrophes?" Was this another case of if I tell you I have to kill you????

Eyes glanced momentarily to Simon before Sophie responded. "I didn't work here then but I heard and read that those employees who ate and drank the poisonous food and beverages attracted a weird zombie disease and had to be isolated. It was a bad disease." And that was all she knew. Hopefully history wouldn't repeat itself.

Glad for the change of topic Sophie smiled warmly. "Pleasure to meet you Alexa, what does YATI stand for?" It was a term that aurors and MLE employee’s in general used pretty freely but she never understood what it meant. She figured it had to do with training of younger aurors.

"I'm a member of the Potion Accident Response team. I get called out take care of spills, turning contaminated areas into safe environments both indoor and outdoor. I can also be called out to scene of crimes. So we might run into each other in official work situations too." Sophie explained. She left out that she helped Derek with potions and such in the laboratory too.

Sophie had been so focused on her conversation with Alexa that she hadn’t seen or heard Derek walk in until he spoke her name. Flashing a glance in his direction she smiled broadly.

Turning to Alana she responded. "Okay, I might try that orangey punch later on then." Sophie hadn’t drunk a good punch in years so these ones sounded promising. Nodding she replied. "Yes, that’s exactly what I do. I clean up spills, mostly those caused by or associated with potions or spells and then I work make the environment safe to be used by people. I can also be consulted if a crime has been committed to make sure the scene is safe to investigate." Caution and safety should always be the number one priority in Sophie’s opinion.

Accepting Alana’s apology with a beam she said "Its fine. I don’t need to know if you aren’t allowed to tell me. I was just curious." Laughing Sophie said "I believe that you are not scary just because you have a top secret job." And besides more than one department had employees that did work that nobody spoke of.

The man looked down and stared at his robes and wondered, for a couple of looonnnng seconds, whether it would stain or not. "Punch. Does it stain?" He asked randomly, almost as if thinking out loud. Derek looked at Ember with basically a question mark stamped on his face. Did it stain?

He was brave? "Oh. Thanks?" He supposed?

This was only her second time at a Ministry event, but she could tell the food was always gonna be awesome. Thank Merlin, because that would definitely put a damper on this whole event if the food was terrible.

But what to choose first? Always such a hard decision. Hm...

Speaking of Penelope, wasn't that her right there? Talk about a coincidence or just a stroke of good luck...or a natural turn of events. This was, afterall, the buffet table. What sort of world would they be living in if Penelope suddenly turned down food? It just wouldn't happen.

"Hey Penelope! We were JUST talking about you." With a pointing motion between her and Ember so her friend wouldn't be confused as to the 'we' she was talking about.

Or maybe she just liked messing with the younger girl. Heh. "Somezing like zat." She smiled. Her next question though got her stumped and she simply shrugged. "Zat is top secret too."

At the mention of it seeming to be only MLE, Lex actually glanced around the buffet table. It...was actually true. For the most part, the people she was surrounded by WERE from MLE. It was grand for her because she was already meeting so many of the people she would be working with but she supposed it'd be odd for an Unspeakable. "Don't reckon you'll see many of them just like that..." Lex mused, sipping at her punch. "I mean, if they're all as secretive as you're making them out to seem...they might be having their own private Orientation." And with that there came another, slightly amusing and definitely fascinating idea. "What if you came to the wrong Orientation because communication is all hush hush?"

See? This was exactly why Lex thought the way she did. Everything was top secret and you couldn't talk about it. How was a girl meant to know then?? "Well...however that whole system works I'm sure it'll be epic. My friend's grandfather--Mr. Shiny New Minister up there--used to be an Unspeakable. He showed us a bell jar. Your Department has all the cool stuff." There was even a rumour about a Death Chamber...but that probably wasn't real...

Between spiked drinks that made you sick and internal investigations, Lex was in awe again. All that happened and does happen and probably WOULD happen. It...it was just so beautiful. The rest of her life was already looking promising. Now all she needed was for someone to do something that required Auror intervention.

"You wouldn't mind me helping with some of that, right? I mean it's a training program and I'll need to know some of that stuff at some point anyway--I won't be in the way or anything and I'm a quick learner." So like...after a while he could even LEAVE some of the work to her and expect it done. Yup. Working towards that.

But hang on, confirmation of the Auror Patrole Officer thing? The guy being a convict for real? Lex was grinning. "You should definitely allow him to places like this more often. It'll do him some good--it'll do me some good too, for you know experience and all that."....Sure, she'd go with that.

"He's not as tame as he looks is he?" That would be a little disappointing but she could work with that. Still, had to learn from the people who were there and already did it.

Despite the look of confusion that could now be found on his face, Lex remained calm. Vickers was hardly the scatter brained type, it would come back...eventually. So she waited and waited until..ah...there we go, it was coming back to him now. "A trip? Where we going? When you say creatures you mean like Chimaeras?" She had yet to meet one in real life even with all the crazy that was Hogwarts, so it would have been nice.

"I don't really mind where we go to be honest, I've been travelling from the moment I left that place." Lots of places with her friends before they started their jobs or went off to Uni. Cassia and Aidan were currently the only ones still free. Huh, funny how she never really realized that she no longer classified as free...now she had to show up to work everyday and couldn't just fly the country....that.....sucked. BUT HOW COOL WAS AUROR LIFE??? "And how've you been. I've heard things about you." Which she vaguely remembered now but that didn't make her unhear it.

That was a lot of food to hold on one plate and it only served to remind Lex that she hadn't tried anything yet. No way was she leaving without sampling at least a little of everything so that purse stuffing was starting to sound better by the minute. The cuddles were greatly appreciated and returned (it'd been a LONG time since this happened). "It still blows my mind that I'm not at Hogwarts anymore and work on YOUR team now--I mean you'll be out on field work a lot and I'll be stuck fetching coffee but...it's sorta the same." Kinda...okay she was ready to be over the training now, thanks.

But wait. Hold up. Stop right there. Lex pulled away from Vivi a little to give her a puzzled look before looking between Simon and Sabel. "He's...he...no convict?" That was possibly the most disappointing thing she'd heard all night. "Not even a petty criminal? Nothing?" Well consider her bubble popped. Slowly she began piling food into what she assumed was a magically extended purse but she was still stuck on the lie. "To think I almost looked up to him."

SPOILER!!: Alexa (again) and Genevieve

So now she was left just kinda....just kinda staring at him. He'd gotten her excited about being an ex-convict...spoke about Azakaban....hinted sorta at curses then turned out to be a fake.

Lex felt absolutely scandalized.

Why would you ever even do something like that? It was just plain mean. "Next to my former Charms and CoMC Professors, you Sir, have got to be one of the biggest disappointments of my young life and I feel you should know that because now I'm crushed and I'm gonna have to think long and hard about looking up to you--I ogled you and you're not even real." So excuse her for feeling a bit put out by the whole thing.

Naturally she would take her cupcake back and no she wouldn't shove it in his face (because sugar was sacred and not to be wasted) but she bit into it while looking at him with a fixed gaze. What was one to make of this?

There was a long pause and a sip of the punch he'd gotten her.

"I've decided you're still epic by virtue of being an Auror," and kids back at Hogwarts pulled stuff on the newbs all the time so she should have seen it coming, "but you're a disappointing Auror and I may never look at you the same again." Give it a month. "In fact you owe me a criminal now. I dunno where you'll get one with a face like yours but it's a big pond beyond these walls." JUST SAYING.

From the corner of her eyes she caught someone else approach the table. Alana was right, this WAS the MLE section. If food was an Auror thing then she was even more affirmed in the fact that she had chosen the right profession.

Small world it was too. "Welcome to the party, it's a bit disappointing now that we've lost what could have been a brilliant criminal mastermind but I'm sure we'll figure something out."

And that was all she knew.

No way..."Zombies?" Somehow she thought that sort of thing only happened in the Castle all the way over in Scotland but this was brilliant, fantastic, they had ZOMBIES. It wouldn't be that great if she was one of the victims but you know, working the other side of the case, it'd have been epic being one of those expected to keep everyone in check while they worked to fix the problem. "How long have you been working here then?" Since she hadn't been there and all.

Ah and someone else wanting to know what it stood for. "Oh, um, I think it's like Young Auror Training Initiative...or something like that but I didn't read the entire acceptance letter so I can't be too sure." Maybe she shouldn't have said that. Last time she did, the woman looked concerned. No idea why.

Her eyes widened. "Crime scenes?" Was it bad she was getting excited again? "We get to show up on the scene of accidents too?" She'd have never thought but Lex wasn't complaining. The more opportunities to get out in the field the better!

Rearranging a little...

Simon listened as Alexa had some very strong interest in what he himself had to say about his job. There was the offer of help and assistance and the man stayed quiet for a moment as if considering it. "We shall see..." he finally said, figuring it couldn't hurt to stay positive while not making any promises. They really would see. He already knew he wanted to still help Jory out so why couldn't he be able to do so with the young woman as well.

As for Sabel and his convict status..."No...not really," he answered about his overall demeanor. Sabel had his wild shriek as well as every Gryffindor had in some degree.

---------------------------------------

Oh look...another YATI. Yet it wasn't as if Tyler was someone to look forward to seeing. At least the younger man was behaving and actually not saying very much. A change of his usual banter.

As for Sophie...why had he never known about the little tidbit of her father being an auror before. Or had she and he was just forgetting it at the moment? Simon supposed it didn't matter. "Yes indeed it is." It was trained into them from the get-go and from the early trainee to the retired Mr. Connelly it was remembered.

"Well we spent some time away in the country." We meaning him and Angelina of course. "How about you?"

-----------------------------------------

A wish that wasn't to be granted.

Because just as Alexa introduced Genevieve to their mutual coworker, the auror broke Sabel's cover wide open with one sentence. And yes, Simon caught the look she sent his friend though she didn't do anything to him for following along. So much for them playing around with the new trainee which had been amusing while it lasted. Oh well. They would still have plenty to work with given the young woman seemed to have a lot to learn about dealing with criminals.

Certainly not people to learn tricks from.

Simon wasn't sure what to do now that the gig was up. Well other then perhaps returning to their regulary scheduled behavior. He did watch as Sabel acted repentant towards Alexa perhaps in hopes the truth wouldn't be answered too badly. The security man himself sipped on his drink and retrieved a casual bite to eat to look downright innocent of the whole thing. He was only following along okay.

Although there was the reaction of Alexa that bother him...the downfall of her excitement at the whole situation. That was a harsh response. Biggest disappointment of her young life? She was back being totally dramatic it seemed. "My apologies, Miss Cambridge," he offered to be somewhat polite about it.

No hard feelings...hmm?

What.

Alana jolted once again as the girl screamed loudly at her with a blaring HIIII and she rubbed her ear for a couple seconds afterwards. She HAD said hi. Was this girl crazy? Obviously. She had to be.

W-wait. Did she just say pest control? Alana couldn't help but try to stifle a laugh because how could she control pests if she was one herself? Oooh, burn. "Alana Ritter. An unspeakable at dee department ov Mysteries." She said, holding out a hand for the girl to shake. "And vat do you do at dee pest control?" Did she really want the girl to know? Eh.

Or maybe she just liked messing with the younger girl. Heh. "Somezing like zat." She smiled. Her next question though got her stumped and she simply shrugged. "Zat is top secret too."

So she was right.

Alana laughed a little as Carol said she was an instruction leaflet. "Vell zat is the only zing you're going on. You haven't vorked yet so zat is vats in your mind." She nodded. Alana didn't really have an entire idea of what is was going to be like working as a charmist, but she hoped it would be fun. "'M not allowed to say vat my job is, I'm an unspeakable." She nodded. "It is cool though...I hope." She smiled.

"So do you liv here, in London? I just moved from Germany to here."

Alana continued sipping at her deep orange punch out of her crystal goblet when she heard someone say something to her right. She turned to see another woman with extravagant hair looking at the food.

"How is dee vine? I zink dee punch is a leetle too citrus-y for me."
She said, in her German accent.

Alana turned to grab some more of the chicken sliders and watched a younger girl seem to debate on what to have. "Dee chicken sliders are very delicious. I recommend those...and maybe ze deep orange punch. I have yet to try ze vine, but I zink I might have to." She said, giving her a small smile.

Turning at the voice of someone asking a question Annabelle noticed a blonde woman (Alana) standing next to her. She had a German accent. "The wine is marvelous." She told the other woman. "The names Annabelle by the way. New Personal Assistant and Liaison in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement." Giving a nod to the lady.

How lovely, Annabelle was already meeting a new person, and the nights barely even got started! Surely there would be more people to meet. Speaking of which...

Annabelle noticed a rather large group at the buffet table as well. Most of them seemed to be MLE workers. And...what's this talk about...a convict!? Ermmmm....this didn't seem so safe. Even though they would surely out number the person...but still...why would you bring a convict to a Ministry Orientation?? This didn't seem right to Annabelle. Something smelled fishy here, and it wasn't the delicious smoked salmon either. Taking a small step closer she couldn't help but lean a bit of an ear into the conversation.

Though, with her training in stealth Annabelle repositioned herself so she was still facing the woman she was talking to. Her body and head was facing towards her, but her one ear was lined up with the group so that way she could hear the conversation better. If needed, she could possibly use her Metamorphmagus abilities to fake being a Daily Prophet Journalist who just so happened to overhear the conversation, and would like some more information.

Maybe...just maybe...

Vic WAS getting in line to get food and a drink. He was smiling widely at the always fancy dishes on the buffet. He had his plate and fork in hand, waiting for people to make room for him, and despite his impatience he never showed it. Instead, he let out a small sigh and leaned on one leg, looking at his gorgeous fiance.

"Maybe we should fight for it." He commented in a low tone to her. Heh heh heh. He was funny when he was hungry. Did Jan look grumpy to everyone else or was it just him?

"What is this a Hogwarts reunion?" Did they have someone on the in that just saved spots for you if you left Hogwarts and wanted to become an auror? Did no one from the other schools aspire to fight crime for this government?

"Nnn-no, no Chimaeras..." Vickers replied suddenly flustered "aa-at least I hope we wont come across one. Just you know... creatures. In their natural habitat-- without them ever knowing we're around." he added half smiling. Merlin he had forgotten how Gryffindor Lex was.

"So you've been seeing the world? Thats good!" he smiled genuinely this time "Where have you gone? What have you seen?" maybe they have overlapped on a few things where he travelled for his Uni studies. And if not... well, at least this Ravenclaw can live vicariously through this Gryffindor's stories.

How has he been? "I'm ok..... finishing my Uni thesis, getting a job at Transportation, you know.... just the usual Hogwarts grad joining the workforce." he chuckled. She's heard things about him? He looked at her, slightly flustered and mostly bemused. "What kind of things?" he was a Ravenerd, guys like him was hardly remembered much less be the stuff of things to talk about.

Jasmine mouthed the big O and understood what she meant. She felt a little slow and she nodded and gave her the kind grin. "Hi Genevieve nice to meet you. She waved off the apology and laughed. "Don't worry I am passionate. I thought I would start with a salad so I wouldn't look like a pig. "Which selection is your favorite?" she asked. She wanted to know what foods she was into maybe they would have something in common. Also small talk was good right?

Ah, so she hadn't heard his little tall tale? Good. It hadn't been meant for so many ears, but he supposed that's what happened when a big mouth like his got into a crowded space. Good grief wasn't it a mess?

Sabel offered the woman a polite smile. "I do, as an Auror. And yourself?" More importantly. "How is that flavor?" Cause even though he had served it to her, punch should never be that green.

Her body and head was facing towards her, but her one ear was lined up with the group so that way she could hear the conversation better. If needed, she could possibly use her Metamorphmagus abilities to fake being a Daily Prophet Journalist who just so happened to overhear the conversation, and would like some more information.

Maybe...just maybe...[/COLOR]

From the corner of his eyes, Sabel caught sight of yet more people approaching the table. The guy didn't seemed too pleased about life, or perhaps he simply didn't enjoy the crowded food table. Sabel was starting to sympathize with that notion. There were just so many people, and so many voices.

And a woman shifting her position, her facial expression one of concern to cause concern. Sabel's brow twitched in a frown. None of his business.

SPOILER!!: Alexa XD and Simon

But hang on, confirmation of the Auror Patrole Officer thing? The guy being a convict for real? Lex was grinning. "You should definitely allow him to places like this more often. It'll do him some good--it'll do me some good too, for you know experience and all that."....Sure, she'd go with that.

"He's not as tame as he looks is he?" That would be a little disappointing but she could work with that. Still, had to learn from the people who were there and already did it.

But wait.

Small world it was too. "Welcome to the party, it's a bit disappointing now that we've lost what could have been a brilliant criminal mastermind but I'm sure we'll figure something out."

This, on the other hand. Just....this.

At first, Sabel could understand her frustration. Sure, it hadn't been the nicest trick to play but he hadn't in a million years been expecting such an enthusiastic reaction. Even then, he had played along a little, wondering if she had been pulling his leg too. Apparently, that wasn't the case and all good-mood-feels of the joke vanished when it became obvious that her fanatics were legit.

She almost looked up to him? For being a criminal? No. No he had said ex-con. Maybe that was what she had meant, that she appreciated the ability of someone like that to change.

But her next words had that hope dying where it grew. Biggest disappointment of her young life? Oogled him?! One with a face like his. That, made him laugh. A single, loud bark. He simply couldn't help it and covering his mouth to hold it in came too late. Unlike Simon's tempered approach, Sabel didn't wasn't as good with the immediate management of his expressions or putting that filter in front of his mouth. He appreciated his friend playing along, and had no hard feelings for him backing out with grace. But this, this was just out of hand.

Where did this kid get these delusions? And how in Merlin's beard had she gotten hired as a YATI with them? There had to be a good reason, or an oversight.

But was this really the place to deliver a lecture, or a lesson? Or call her out in front of her new co-workers and ministry workers? It was called an orientation for a reason, but it was also a first meeting and what each of them did here would set the stage for their relationship in the days and months ahead. And he would not do what teachers and mentors loved most to do to their new recruits. So, Sabel schooled his irritation and disbelief, and reminded himself that he had been a fool-headed Gryffindor when he had first started out at the MLE too. Just a different type of fool-headed. Hot-headed and confrontational, where as this one was just too much of an eager beaver. That would need addressing later. For now...

Shaking his head, Sabel lowered his hand and poked himself. "Not real? I certainly feel real." Would she like a poke too? Just to convince herself? "I am sorry for pulling the wool over your eyes, Miss Cambridge."

At least he still had some brownie points with her? Just not as many as being a criminal would have given him. Strange girl. So very strange. Scratching his chin, Sabel considered the girl and his next choice of words, reminding himself not to turn this into a scene. He wasn't a child anymore. He had to try to act like an adult. Saying anything that was on his mind would only tarnish the night for the girl further, and that was no way to start a new career.

"I don't know that I can find a criminal for you." Not besides the one in the making he was looking at right now. "But perhaps I can offer you a dance at some point this evening, instead?"

He could already see the neon sign flashing above his head: Criminal, yes. Fake criminal, hell no.

It was interesting to see how even after a couple years of leaving Hogwarts people were still similar to the people they used to be. Take Vickers for instance, he didn't want to take her to any dangerous creatures back then and he seemed just as opposed to it now. "Well I mean that can work too. We'll run into trouble anyway, no need to push it." Yet. Plenty of time for near death experiences in her current field and she looked forward to each and every one of them. "Mundane creatures? Are we travelling around the Muggle world?" Important to know when planning.

"And I sure have. Searched the Amazon with Cassia, spent a week or something with Lottie in New York and went to Romania with Aidan for the dragons--got to sponsor one too so now I technically own one." Best thing EVER. Shame they wouldn't let her take the egg home with her though.

Oh? "You're working on a thesis thing too? Lou's doing that on some good looking rich guy. Says she's almost done then she'll be full fledged and all that. What's your thesis on?" But then....was it just her or was Vickers getting a little....weird.... "You know, stuff. Stuff that people say. Stuff. Are you better now?" Just curious.

"What is this a Hogwarts reunion?" Did they have someone on the in that just saved spots for you if you left Hogwarts and wanted to become an auror? Did no one from the other schools aspire to fight crime for this government?

Not very pleasant was he? Not that Lex could remember him ever being pleasant. Always that one guy that whined against the school in his own country in favour of some bloody foreigners. The day Dax got like that, she'd string him up personally. Luckily her cousin had the balance thing right.

"You might say that, yeah." Hogwarts kids tended to stay in their country when finding work, sue them. "This is the British Ministry afterall so it'd be convenient for most of us that leave Hogwarts. Why go work in another country when we live and went to school here?" Not like those other people. Live in Norway, go to school in Norway, then your butt better stay in Norway instead of clogging things up here and making it difficult for others. That went double for those prissy Beauxbaton Alumni.

Lex was still looking between the two. Jokes were one thing, but crushing a girl's dreams the moment she entered the Ministry? Was that how they got their kicks? She could only imagine.

'Least they were decent enough to apologize after, not something she'd have done considering she usually meant what she did and if that was the case apologizing was only a formal lie; still, it was good on them. "Lex." She corrected. If they were going to be working together 'Miss Cambridge' was gonna get old real fast. "You guys can just call me Lex. Unless they were adamant about formalities in this place? Merlin she hoped not.

At Sabel's gesture of a poke, Lex poked him too. "Yeah, you're real, real fake." She could feel him and he was standing there in fact but he was standing there as an Auror and not at all an ex-convict. Guess what that made you Sir. Fake.

Then he said he couldn't find her a criminal. They...worked in MLE....they had lock up cells...how could he not get her a criminal? Lex might have challenged this if not for the offer of a dance. Hazel eyes fell next on Simon. "And what will you offer me?" Patrols? Yes? YES?

She wasn't getting any food, but she was walking alongside Vic while he was in line to pile food on his plate. She'd pick some stuff off of his plate if she got hungry. January sipped her wine before grinning at her fiance. "I've always admired your dedication to do anything it takes to acquire food." Starting fights, bribing her, flattering her. It was cute, really.

January did perhaps look grumpy, but she was trying not to. "Have you seen Willy yet?" she asked, looking around the area. Not that she wanted to ditch Vic, but she was looking forward to seeing her other best friend that night.

Now this was why he tended to be the serious one and left the hazing to the likes of Legend and even Josh. Simon felt bad as she watched the young woman look between him and Sabel as if trying to decide what to do for them. It felt like when Selina had thought he had forgiotten her when he and Jacob had had to exchange polyjuice potions and lives temporarily. It hit you in the gut. You had to admit though, they both appologized to her and the security man was plenty sure both were totally genuine to the YATI. They hadn't meant to burst her bubble. But then they also hadn't expected her to be completely into it the way she had been.

Simon nodded as she corrected them on her name. "Lex... " he echoed almost subconstiously as if to simply show he was listening and understood her preference. "Got it." The use of title and surname had been a choice of respect and politeness. The department had a tendency to shorten it to simply surname like Browne and Bennett. Firsts were usually reserved until one knew the other better. Former classmates and friends having the advantage here of course. He supposed he could manage it.

Sabel took the gentlemanly way out in the end, offering the girl a dance and he had to fight the urge to snort. His friend was in no way a dancer but he supposed it was a segway to change the mood that had developed after the revelation of falsehood. Or as a way to escape to a quieter venue to which to rectify the conversation. Plus as Alexa herself admitted as she accepted the offer, it helped make up for the act even if only a little bit.

And then her attention was back to him. What was HIS offer? "How about the detailed tour of the Ministry?" And he did mean detailed. Granted he couldn't get her into places like the deep recesses of Level 9 or the Minister's and Undersecretaries' offices but Simon still had a strong knowledge of everywhere else. And it would certainly prove useful at times. And interesting if one was the type who explored Hogwarts castle from turret to dungeon.

The Sabel group people

Alright, so Annabelle heard enough small talk from that group over there. She needed to get some more inside information on this 'Sabel' person. Nodding her head at Alana the Metamorphmagus said "If you'd excuse me, I must go and use the facilities." With that the woman walked towards the bathroom. Now her plan would be set into motion.

Focus she thought. Sneaking her way back out of the restrooms, the now different looking Annabelle walked over to the large group with Sabel in it. Notebook and quill in her hand. Smiling at the group, the now brunette let go of the notebook and quill, and they floated in the air, quill up, ready to write. "Why hello! Let me introduce myself, Kita Skeeter, journalist at the Daily Prophet." Some of the words more accented and emphasized more than others, making the already loud voice even louder. "I overheard you saying that this man is a convict. Why did you bring him here?" The transformed Annabelle asked. Directing her attention to the others in the group who seemed to have just met the man "What are all of your thoughts on him bringing a convict here to the Ministry Orientation of 2086?" The words loudly and confidently streaming out of her mouth

Rubbing her now tanned skin, Annabelle looked at the bunch. Her gaze quickly shot back down to her left hand. Thankfully the scar was gone. The former claw had almost forgotten that when she uses her ability on her whole body, the scar thankfully disappears. If she wanted to, the woman probably could find a way to use her abilities to get rid of the scar permanently, but even though it was a painful reminder, that scar made her who she was.

It wasn't hard to tell that the apology was falling on partially closed ears. It seemed that when she had said 'biggest disappointment', she had truly meant it and was basing everything on it. Sabel caught a noisy breath before it could escape him. If he had known it would cause this much trouble, would he have still tried for the prank? Maybe. Foresight was still a thing he was working on, and hindsight didn't do anyone a great deal of good.

Best to just move forward then, as well as they could. But she was correcting them on her name, so that didn't mean she was adverse to ever talking to them again. No Miss. What was it with women in this department and not wanting to be called 'miss'? He wasn't going to ask.

"Alright, Lex--" the 'ee' nearly rolled off his tongue before he could catch it behind the quick snap of his teeth as he clamped his mouth shut. No matter if anyone else heard it or not though, that name rang loud and clear in his ears and he sort of just stared at the blonde, not sure who he was seeing. Especially with that poking business. That was....

Clearing his throat, Sabel shook himself as the offer to dance was accepted. He worked out a small, half-formed smile as his attention refocused on the people in front, and around, him Including Bennett's restrained amusement. We see you Mr. Bennett, we do. "As long as it's a start, Alexa." Yeah, the 'ah' and the 'ah' would be tacked on, beginning and end. Always.

And she wanted something from Simon? Sabel's eyes darted to his friend as his mouth twisted into an apologetic expression. It seemed they were partners in any mess they got themselves into. He was preparing to find the words to try and coax Alexa out of weaseling some apology-payback from Simon, but the man didn't miss a beat and had quite a good offer on the table without a hitch.

Sabel's attention drifted back to Alexa. So, were they good now? He hoped so, because at the moment, standing around and arguing about the weight of apologies while looking at blonde hair was just ... not helpful. Turning to Simon, he clapped his friend on the shoulder. "I'm...just going to get some air." A small smile was sent Alexa's way. "See you on the dance floor then."

Without waiting to have to give an explanation, he turned to slip away from the group, and nearly ran into the woman that joined them.

He halted in his tracks, and blinked rapidly. Daily Prophet. Oh this should be ....wait what?

First reactions were torn between smacking himself on the forehead, snatching the quill and notebook out of the air and snapping some instantaneous retort at the woman. As it was, the division between the three options left him staring at the quill, which seemed to be peering at their little group as eagerly as the woman was.

Breathe. Just breathe. She had only just come into the conversation. It was possible she hadn't heard the truth being spilled. Though, if she had heard the first part and been interested, why wouldn't she have listened to the rest? Or, did news travel that fast through the party? Sabel's eyes skipped over the packed room. Brilliant. Just bloody brilliant Dakest.

He schooled his tone to manageable politeness. After all, he had caused the mess. "I'm not a convict. It was a prank, and a rather ill-advised one, to ... " test competency and thought process? His eyes skipped to Alexa and then back again. "A bad party joke, is all. I'm an Auror with the MLE." Maybe...maybe that part should have been left out. He took a breath. "Not a convict."

For someone who talked in short sentences and never said more than he needed Derek was actually being talkative. Should Sophie take this as a warning sign? Deciding to ignore it for now she continued to sip on her green punch as Derek spilled all of his on his robes. Sympathising she shook her head. "I don’t think it will if you clean the punch off with a quick spell."

"Excited to get back to the lab tomorrow?" She queried with a smile.

"I've been working here for a year now." Sophie said after calculating quickly in her head when she had taken up her position at the ministry. Time flied it seemed. Alexa explained what YATI stood for and to her ears it seemed reasonable enough. She’d have to ask if her father knew differently when she owled him in the morning liked she had promised to do about how the orientation had been.

"Then you're freshly graduated from Hogwarts? Or have you worked somewhere else before you got accepted into the YATI programme?" Sophie asked curiously. She couldn’t help it. If MLE had a special training programme for youth to get them a foot into the job market and experience then how come nothing similar was available in the other departments?

Nodding Sophie said "Yes, I would think you would be called out especially if the accident was um fatal or if someone was injured." She glanced over at Simon and Sabel for support. MLE were those who investigated accidents and crimes. Sophie just cleaned up the messes.

"Yes indeed it is." It was trained into them from the get-go and from the early trainee to the retired Mr. Connelly it was remembered.
"Well we spent some time away in the country." We meaning him and Angelina of course. "How about you?"

When Simon said 'we' Sophie interpreted it as him and Angelina and that meant that they were still together, which was good for him. "I didn't go anywhere special I just enjoyed my holidays in the company of my family and friends." She had gone on some fun girl’s night outs and had gotten to hear all the gossip about men and clothes to satisfy her for a few weeks. It had made her realize that she should throw herself out on the dating scene again.

Eyes coming to rest on Jazzy she beamed as she responded. "Yes, actually I am excited to get back to work tomorrow. Aren’t you?" Holidays were nice but now that she felt energized and relaxed Sophie wanted to jump back into work things. Even if being on call starting tomorrow morning could mean that she had to get up at the crack of dawn. "My holidays were nice. Turning to Sabel once more Sophie answered politely. "I work as a Part Urgent Response Officer for the Department of Accidents and Catastrophes, which basically means I get called out day or night to take care of spills of different varieties mostly potion induced. But also to turn contaminated areas into safe environments and that can range from spills in the wilderness to those in houses or public areas."It was interesting work and ever-changing she never what to expect.

Taking bigger sips of the punch trying to discern the flavours in it she said with a smile. "It's quite delicious. I'm not sure why it's so green though. Maybe it's the fruits in it? Aren't you going to try some too?"Or was Sabel one for more refined tastes like Elderflower wine?

He halted in his tracks, and blinked rapidly. Daily Prophet. Oh this should be ....wait what?

First reactions were torn between smacking himself on the forehead, snatching the quill and notebook out of the air and snapping some instantaneous retort at the woman. He caught the look from Sabel but he was already reacting to Alexa and her question. It wasn't anything more than what he might of offered anyway, Pkus the knowledge of the ministry was something they all should really know. Even the aurors....like security should know the self-defense techniques of the other division. What took him off guard was the change in his friend's demeanor.

Was it something to do with Alex---Lex he corrected himself? Oh. It was this blend between Alex and Lex that gave Simon a clue. He looked back at the blonde and wondered if his friend was thinking on their other mutual housemate, Alexandra or Lexi. The one that Sabel was close to and was now deceased. He didn't have much time to dwell on the matter however as the other auror moved to take his leave...

Only to nearly crash into someone.

Simon had seen the approach of a new woman, better than Sabel apparently had, yet he didn't think anything of it...until he saw the notebook and quill. The security man had to bite back a groan as she made her introductions to the group. Since when were reporters invited to this kind of thing? Well other than Jorge but he counted as Mariel's plus one so that didn't quite count. And of coruse her attention was on him when the topic was brought up about Sabel being a convict. His eyes flicking towards his friend.

He Soooooo owed him.

Regardless if this situation caused the trouble most dealings with the Daily Prophet or not. He didn't like being in the spotlight and he hated meddlesome reporters and now both were happening. Thankfully Sabel spoke up, taking the task of being the first to speak away from him, which in turn allowed him to think more on how to remedy this situation if need be. He certainly had enough experience in the matter.

"Yes..." he finally spoke, confirming his friend and partner in crime's story. "It was meerly two older members of the department trying to welcome our newer members with a tall tale. " They just hadn't though Alexa would go for it as deeply as she had. Or anyone else for that matter. Hadn't the reporter heard them reveal the truth when Genevieve let the cat out of the bag?

"Well I wouldnt quite put it as mundane... but yes perhaps somethings Muggles might be more familiar with.... since I was thinking of signing up with a tour group. However if you're really that well travelled, maybe we can go with for the less beaten path." Seems like Lex was ready for anything.

With each of Lex' recounting Vickers looked more impressed. He didnt recognize any of the names she mentioned-- friends of hers she probably had after he left-- except one "Oh Lottie! Why yes, how is she? And you both went to New York? Aww it wouldve been nice to have seen you both in my neck of the woods." Instead of him always being on theirs.

Now what was his thesis about?.... He always found it a challenge to explain it where he doesnt send the listener to sleep "Its uhh.... complex." Yeah like that helps "Its like... you know that Piertotum Locomotor spell and its effects on armor? Its a bit like that... kinda?.. No not really." He could try to say big damn robots but thats also an oversimplification.

Peculiar looks at you Lex. "'Stuff people say'.... what like rumors?" Vickers gave a tiny shrug of his shoulder. He's a nobody, his Professor from back there didnt even remember him leading half his class in a dragon egg activity. "Well you know what they say about rumormongers Lex. And yes I'm ok, always had been." Well ok maybe not quite, he had a scar on the side of his head he couldnt remember where it came from, but is it worth mentioning to Lex? Nah, she'd probably just laugh at such a scratch.

"How were your holidays Jazz?" Sophie wondered curiously.

Jasmine smiled and loved her co workers energy. She sometimes wished she had it. "I am pretty excited to come back and work with my new partner actually." She trailed off at that because she forgot her partners name but she was still new to the department it would come to her eventually. As she was hearing about her holidays she beamed and found it nice she spent it catching up with her elder half brother. "That is soo sweet I am sure your elder half brother appreciated it." I mean she didn't' have any siblings she was an only child that some called her spoiled which she was but she wanted to be like everyone else and let no one else know she was rich.

Now the question was onto her. "My holidays were really nice actually. I just spent it with my parents for a little bit then I went on a trip with my best friend to the Bahamas..." she grinned. She never liked spending time with her parents because they always made it about them. Typical rich people. But on the other her best friends family was like the family she never had. She loved them to death. "Have you seen anyone else from our department yet?" she asked curiously.
