Test a Flying Carpet!
Banner by Lissy Longbottom
Due to the ban on flying carpets, not many witches and wizards can say they've been lucky enough to try a flying carpet. Well, now is your chance! These magic carpets have been charmed to fly no more than 10 feet off the ground and have been confined to a small area that is about a quarter of the size of a standard Quidditch pitch. Please wait your turn, and step on up and enjoy the fun!
Ministry officials ARE standing nearby, so no funny business! Feel free to step up and take one of these carpets for a spin!
OOC: Please feel free to RP your character flying on the carpet - remember, these ARE charmed to only go a certain height off the ground and are confined to one area, so no funny business!

Chance to try a flying carpet? Who the hell would say no to that? Unless they were dull and had no idea of fun, bahaha... In Deacon's mind that was. There was likely to be some limit set on how high and where they could fly, given on how they're banned.
So there he was casually strolling through the vendors when he came across this little set up. Was he first? Heck yeah he was, now he just needed to wait and wait.... any moment now.

Achilles had been walking around the general area, hoping for any lucky go getters to get a thrill and test their luck with the flying carpet testing. Now, people couldn't be shy here. No one would judge, most especially Achilles. He knew just exactly how it felt to ride a carpet for the first time ever and fail. But, with time he'd gotten used to its way, and it became a wonderful wonderful experience. Something he'd always found joy within.
And it seemed he had found himself his very first tester. Excellent. This brave man, Achilles assumed, wanted to test his luck, and he seemed well fit enough for it. He strolled up to the man standing nearby, and with an award winning smile said, "Hello! Hello! Can I help you with anything today, sir? Care to chance yourself with the thrill that magic carpets provide you with?"
If Achilles were that man he would have wasted no time in saying YES!

Bhuvana did not mean to find herself here, in a flying carpet simulation arena. She surveyed the rows with a bit of a sour expression on her face - not that she was against flying carpets, but because there was no way she was going on any of those.
She stood near a vender, arms crossed, and waiting. She could watch.

Before he went to try any of the food, which he was DEFINITELY wanting to do, Willy wanted to try the flying carpets. He wasn't a huge fan of flying, but he had been on a dragon and a broom before. Why not try another form of transportation?
He wandered over to the area where they were testing carpets and got in line behind a grumpy-looking lady. ??? Did she not like carpet? Maybe she was more of a hardwood person... har har har...

Bhuvana noticed the man behind her and the look she was getting from him. Keeping her arms crossed tightly, she stepped out from in front of him, then gestured for him to walk forward. "'m not in line," she said, slightly grumbly. She was most certainly NOT and WOULD NOT unless there was absolutely no risk involved.
It was funny that she was fine with getting into duels (only with non-law abiding citizens, of course) but not at all fine with getting on a flying carpet.
Maybe because it was entirely impractical in this setting. HMPH.

Oh boy, this lady was wound up tighter than a grandfather clock. And no, William had NO CLUE what a grandfather clock was. The clock that gave birth to a watch? No clue.
But, he nodded and stepped forward anyway, giving the lady a smile and a nod. "Thanks." Paaaaaaaaaaause.... "So... you're not a fan of flying carpets, I take it?? Bad experience with one?"

OH YAY! People were MINGLING! They were exploring! HER GUESTS WERE HERE HAVING A GOOD TIME! Gabi couldn't stop smiling. She was so proud of her team and their hard work - but of course, she was mostly proud of herself. This event was her BABY. And everything seemed to be going just fine!
"Come on guys, don't be shy!" Gabi said to the crowd that had gathered around the carpets. People weren't really...getting ON the carpets yet. They knew that would just start working if they got on them, right? Maybe she should have made a sign with instructions...

Sweeeet, didn't even have to wait that long enough to whistle for someone over.. Not that he ever would or needed to. Wasn't his style.
Pssh, the man was totally trying to be professional. He didn't need to ask Deacon if he wanted to, he was all gaame. But he was a nice guy, so he would play along. The incoming crowd needed an example after all. Yeah, I'd like to get on one of these beauties." Nudging his head at the beautiful carpets. He didn't need to have a drop of taste to know the work was remarkable. "Now how high can I go on these?" Cause obviously the sky wasn't just the limit here.
Bhuvana and William! Deacon!(separate TLs to Deacon)
Excellent! Fantastic! Achilles saw two newcomers arrive to his station and he was positively happy about that. More people to lure into the fun of magic carpets. Because they were fun in every single way. And they just needed to know so.
What was that, though? Did his ears deceive him? That lady was not in line? This was the perfect opportunity for her to try out the carpets in a safe and controlled environment, and relish in it as much as he could. Well, Achilles would just have to make that lady test it out.
He walked to the two newcomers, waited a few seconds, hoping he wasn't interrupting their conversation, then said, "Not in line? But m'am, have you ever ridden a flying carpet? This is a rare chance. I advise you take it as much as you can. Nothing will happen to you at all, I promise. It seems daunting at first, I know. But just imagine that wind flowing past you, the rush, the feeling. " Oh yeah, Achilles was trying to sweeten up his talk as much as he could. "Give it a try. 'Sides if it doesn't work out you could tell your friends that at the very least you've ridden a flying carpet. And what have they done to amount to a thrill like that?"
It may be a controlled environment but still his words were all true. He then turned to the man, and, even giving the coordinator, who was a few feet away, a salute, said "Sir, why don't you grab a carpet yourself? Give it a run." He had nothing to lose. Achilles would just be supervising the activity.
SPOILER!!: Deacon

Yes! Wonderful. First test rider coming right up. Achilles smiled at the man, excused himself for a few, went back to his station and grabbed himself a carpet and soon returned to the man. "This shall work with you just fine, sir." And he carefully held out the carpet to him. Ah, the inevitable question was, of course, what were the limits to flying this. Achilles nodded then simply said "No more than ten feet, unfortunately. We don't want any catastrophes to happen here. Just don't swerve too quickly or abruptly or else we may be in some trouble. Stick to that and you should do well."
Go on, give it a try!

When the man replaced her in line, she felt at least a little bit less annoyed. She wasn't going on the flying carpet still, but she was going to watch and try and be accepting to those who wanted to. She still didn't know why the wanted to, but okay.Bhuvana was even curious to see the magic carpet fly. She had heard about her ancestors going sightseeing on them, but she had never seen one.
She nodded back at the man, who at least had the decency to thank her. But then he questioned her decision. She bristled slightly, eyeing him to make sure that he wasn't making fun of her. After a solid minute of semi-dangerous glaring, she deemed it okay to answer. "I prefer to not risk my life in something as inconsequential as trying out a flying carpet. And no, not personally, but I'm sure someone has gotten injured. And I don't want someone to be me." She finished in her posh potpourri of British and Bengali accents. She switched which arm was crossed over which.
And someone was trying to make her leave her safety of being on the ground."No, no thank you. I'll just watch."

Wasn't going to tell him how high then? Deacon shrugged, "Cool. Thanks." Well the man didn't say no to him which was perfect. Nothing like a little mystery as he went over to take a random carpet. It didn't matter, wasn't like he was able to buy one to put on his living room floor. Though that would make a nice surprise to Mae and Val.
Smiling a little at the thought, Deacon oh so casually rolled it out onto the ground before sitting right on it.... and waited. So how did it work? Should he cross his legs into a pretzel and zen out for it to work? Or should he do one of his model poses making sure the wind blew right through his hair. Everyone would like that, wouldn't they? Or-
Say.. now this is different.
Deacon thought as the surrounding area the carpet on which he was sitting on comfortably got picked up a few gusts of wind. He wasn't floating just yet as his eyes glanced left and right watching the edges of the carpet ruffle around.. and then it began floating. Were they watching just yet?

Harmony was simply buzzing with excitement as she made her way over to the area where you could test flying carpets. How could one pass up the chance to experience something so liberating? The red head was big on taking advantage of every opportunity and so she couldn't pass it up and didn't, jumping into the queue so she could wait her turn.
If those around them thought they heard the tune of Ain't No Mountain High Enough, they wouldn't be mistaken. This department head was humming and generating some serious positive vibes over here.

Heh heh. William let out a soft chuckle as the guy facilitating this carpet thing, or so he assumed, approached them. What a silver tongue! "I will HAPPILY test one of these carpets," he replied to the guy with a small nod, walking over and selecting a blueish-purple one with gold detailing. This was faaaaaaancy. So animated, too. Much better than a boring and dull broom, if you asked him.
He looked back to the lady he had passed. The one who was VERY anti-danger and thus anti-carpets. "Are you sure?" he called out to her his a charming and good-natured grin. She had a pretty face accent.... might not be a bad person to ride carpets with? If only she weren't so stiff? "YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!" Willy added, and with that, he hopped on his carpet and took off.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
He wasn't up that high but he DID feel like he was going pretty fast. AND he didn't have to put forth as much effort as he did with a broom or a dragon. Fabulous.

Bhuvana rolled her eyes as the man eagerly, almost like a child, leaped onto a carpet and started flying. What a risk taking idiot. She nevertheless watched him with her heavy-lidded eyes and fingered her wand, which was sticking out of the front pocket in her jeans. Yes, he was an oveer-excited grown manchild, but if he fell off and died she didn't want to just let him die. She could probably cast a cushion charm before he hit the floor, and besides, a wand was always useful when there were flying carpets piloted by reckless men always.
She crossed her legs, one in front of the other, and watched the man's progress as he zoomed much too fast to be safe.

Ember WAS SOOOO EXCITED ABOUT THIS okay? FLYYING CAAAARPETS. She bounced a little as she entered and she glanced around--OH HI BOSS HI!
"Harmony!" she squealed in delight and THREW her arms around her and squeeeeeezed into a HUUUUGGGE HUG. YES. HArmony was the bEST EVER. Okay. So she was in a really good mood, okay? "This looks so fun! SO FUN! I want to ride one--" she was like a Chihuahua. Bouncing around in excitement and yapping away about anything and EVERYTHING.
Gosh.
"Are you gonna' ride one?!" she asked. She spotted WIlliam and WAVED to him too! WOW SO MANY COOL PEOPLE HERE ALREADY! GOSH. Ember giggled a lot and shifted her bag to her other shoulder.

Why couldn't people just walk.
Well this was FUN. William could have stayed on this carpet all day... and since he didn't see too many other people waiting for a ride, he took his time on this one. Hehe. Hey look, more people were coming in! He spotted Harmony, and then Ember, and waved at them both cheerily.
Back to the 'I don't do carpets' lady. He raised his brows at her and turned the carpet toward her with just the slightest touch. Niiiiiiice. Willy managed to zoom it down to about her eye level and flopped down on it, stretching out. See why carpets > brooms? You couldn't lounge around on a broom.
Anyway, there he was, hovering at eye level with her with his face poking out over the side. "Sooooooo you're not a risk taker, eh? But LOOK at how SOFT and COMFORTABLE these things are!!!!!!!" He patted the smooth seat beside him. "Come onnnn up, give it a try." He was a perfectly safe driver. Slytherin's honor!

Bhuvana's mouth tightened and she grasped her wand more firmly with her right hand as the man circled around and waved at people. She had glanced over her shoulder to see if the two women who walked in were people she knew - but WHO was she kidding. She didn't know anyone here. Almost a year working at the Ministry and she only knew her coworkers. Which was a good decision, no friends meant no distractions except for the occasional tired-day. She gave a weak smile to the women, then returned to her sulky watching of the flying carpet.
The man was offering for her to ride with him."No thanks," she said in a huff, her posh accent coming out stronger, but she patted the carpet nevertheless. "Yes, very soft. Perfect for wishing you landed on it when you fall to your death."

Heh heh heh just get a look at this lady. She was SO UPTIGHT! Man! William was getting so many good ideas of how to mess with her... heh. But. His boss was also here now soooooo he should probably sit up and take the carpet on a proper test drive.
Besides, Uptight Lady was going to get wrinkles from frowning at her so much. "Is that a challenge?" he mused, wondering if she WANTED him to fall off and break his neck just so she would be right. "These carpets are awesome though, just saying! You'll wish you had taken a ride when this thing is over!!!!!!!!"
And with that thought, he zoomed off again. Time to put this thing through its paces. First, he would max out its speed, THEN, just before he hit the wall, he'd break and turn upside down. CHEYEA. SWEET.

Deacon, William/Bhuvana, Harmony/Ember (in that order)
Achilles watched as the first man he had encountered at his station, took his seat and settled onto the carpet. He looked confused at first, but eventually he was up in the air. Then a smile crept over Achilles as the man seemed intrigued by his carpet. Did he need some help to get it to its appropriate height, or rather, what was allowed today? That's exactly what Achilles was here for. So, he made his way closer to the man, and said, "The maximum height is ten feet. You can either tug your hands on the corners of your carpet, or equally spaced out between the front of your carpet. I prefer, and advise, the second option." More grip, Achilles thought, the hands were more likely to slip off the corners of the carpet. "How does that feel for you, sir?" He wanted to make sure the man was working his carpet perfectly, but at the same time, felt safe.
Manning his area Achilles walked back and forth slowly, in case anyone called out to him or needed his help, he was in good earshot. The man and lady were having a row at the carpet ride, and why the woman was simply refusing to get on one. He watched, amused by the man trying to persuade the lady, with some sweet talk, about flying alongside him. "All his words are true, m'am. You'll regret not taking this chance. I'll be right here too, if it makes you feel safer, he can fly his carpet near my vicinity. If anything does happen, I'll be right here to help at the ready." It was ten feet, she couldn't get THAT injured. The charming man, though, seemed to be in his own zone now going here and there with his carpet.
His reactions looked positive. Brilliant!
Two new ladies arrived and Achilles casually strolled his way over to them. Peeking over his shoulder, carefully watching the two men. "Hello ladies!" SMILE. "Once you've figured out your arrangements you can go on up and grab your own carpet to your liking." Make the 'customer service' here seem even stronger. "I'd advise one at a time, until you've gotten the hang of it. Then you can go for two if you feel well about your test runs, and desire some risk." PAUSE. "Perfectly safe, these bad boys are." WINK. SNAP SNAP, POINT AT CARPETS. And by 'bad boys' he obviously meant the carpets.

The broom developer’s eyes watched the chipper ministry guy flying his carpet. Yeah, he looked like he was having loads of fun. Loads of fun were the best kind of fun weren’t they?
She was practically beaming from ear to ear as she walked into the testing area. THERE WERE CARPETS! FLYING CARPETS! She grinned even more widely as she looked around.
”oh cooooooooool” she gasped as she watched Willy flying upside down. THAT was awesome. Of course she wanted to know about the charms that were on the different carpets and their new innovations...it wasn't every day a broom tester and feature inventor met other transportation and flying enthusiasts.

"Ember, hello!" Harmony loved this woman's zest for life. You could always count on her to bring energy and the red head felt her vibes getting more positive by the minute. Hugging the woman back, she smiled. Hugs really were medicine for the soul! "It does, yes! I've always wanted to have a ride on one of these!" And while Ember was bouncy, Harmony was still but one could be sure her aura was pulsating. Oh yes, it was.
Oh and looook, here was a lovely magic carpet man now! The creatures department head grinned at him, flipping her hair over her shoulder as he greeted them. "Hello! This is a quite a popular area, it seems." Her eyes flicked to those already flying and giggled when she spotted William. Helloooo, William! Harmony waved. "Sounds brilliant, thank you!"
"Ember, let's go. I see a lovely carpet that speaks to me." Shed be riding that one, thank you.

Victoria heard about this little event and well honestly it had her interest. Not that she'd ever buy a flying carpet even if she was allowed. They were just way out of her price rang. She had two more children to help put through school, as well as Bart who was already there. So this little trip was just for her own curiosity and really who wouldn't want to try out a carpet given the chance.
Moving around she looked at all the different ones. They were so beautiful. She had never seen so many in one place or so many different patters. Her focus fully on the carpets she didn't really notice who she had been passing, if she had been really passing anyone.
Now should she actually test one out or would it just make her want something she could never have?

Cameron preferred brooms obliviously. Though he had ever been on a flying carpet either. So maybe just maybe he would try one out. He still didn't really trust it. So he had heard about this and thought that he would at least look into it. Not like any laws were going to be changed anytime soon.
Really though as he looked around it was almost as bad as shopping around for a muggle car. So many brands, colors, designs. No muggle car shopping was much easier. A nice red two convertible? Yes that was the best transportation muggle style anyway or a nice blue jeep like he had. Yes a man his age could still want the car of his dreams right? Nah, he better setting with a mini van. With the news of a baby yeah that was the right route.
Anyway the glanced around looking at the different carpets when he noticed familar blonde looking at the carpets close by. He moved over closer shaking his head. "Hey, Victoria." He spoke to her and he took a look at the price tag. Whoa that was insane he wasn't going to paid that for something that he could take home and use double as home decor.

Ember whipped around at the man and just SMILED all big for him. He was just as smiley as she was! That was lovely. He was lovely! "I would assume they're safe if you guys are letting just anyone go ride them!" she said, and she eyed the pretty little carpets. One at a time, eh? "Do you have any TIPS, good sir?" she asked, tilting her head his way and daaaaaazzzling her smile at him.

Ember thought Harmony was the best boss anyone could EVER ask for. She always humored Ember no matter what...HEEEEE. She got a BEAMY smile from her as WELL. Hmph. It seemed Harmony had found her special carpet--OKAY. She smiled and searched for one herself--she wanted a BLUE one--hmm.
"I want a crazy carpet. One that tries to THROW me off--" she said, smirking a little. She didn't really want that....she just wanted a wild ride that made her feel YOUNG. Not that she didn't already...but still. Young and full of adrenaline...ADRENALINE. Her eyes rested on one of the carpets..."So flying carpets are illegal, yes?" she asked Harmony, shooting a side glance her way. If it didn't have to do with animals, Ember typically didn't pay it any mind....typically.
