Uh-oh! The inevitable question. He had until that point been returning the warm smiles towards the witches. Jasper's attention refocused on the button pad as the vendetta witch seemed to be indicating. He looked down to see that he had not selected his level. Think fast, Jas!
He was a bit uncomfortable lying about such things and he was not terribly good at it, although he felt that he understood the reasoning behind it. "I don't, Miss. But, I shall get off after you ladies." Ugh! It felt terribly duplicitous to Jasper. More so than he had expected once he'd actually spoke the words, but he willed himself to familiarize with the feeling.
So the world cup witch had played before, yes? "Which team did you play for, Miss? You mentioned you had played Quidditch before." Although, he had assumed it to be a professional league team all on his own. He found himself grateful that she too lacked the liberty of disclosure. He thought that it might make her more sympathetic if she herself would ask what he did at the Ministry.

But his answer struck her as slightly odd.. or just extremely polite.. she wasn't sure which. So, he wasn't the new attendant.. or was he? "Might I ask where you do work? Just curious.." Since they were all making small talk, wouldn't hurt to ask, right?
And then the conversation turned to her or, more specifically her Quidditch career, which she was more than happy to discuss. "I played for the Moutohora Macaws a few years back," she told them both with just the hint of a proud smile. "Keeper.." No need to mention the reserve bit, she was still part of the team no matter how much she played. She turned to the woman as she spoke of her own Quidditch experiences. "Oh, did you? What house were you in?" The brunette looked at her a bit appraisingly. She appeared to be a little older than her, but perhaps they went to Hogwarts at the same time. Or even played against each other.
She smiled lightly as it seemed they understood her need for concealment in regards to this portion of her job. "Oh, I'm certain it will," she said in a light conversational tone. "It is quite exciting to plan it.." It was, but that was probably all she should say on it for now.
She didn't know why but she had the distinct feeling she knew where Jasper worked, even though he hadn't said. She simply nodded though in silent understanding when he said he'd get off after them.
Small talk. Ah, so she was a Keeper. Macaws. Respectable team for sure. "Ravenclaw." she answered simply enough, when she realized the woman had asked her what house she was in. But before she could answer or say anymore in the name of small talk, they were joined . . .

Surpressing a sigh he walked into the lifts, nodded toward Alex, not wanting to interrupt her current conversation, muttered a quick 'morning' to the others out of courtesy then settled somewhere near Roxanne. "Late morning." He commented casually before eyeing her pop tart and coffee. "Nothing good in the food court?" He may not have liked the place but he'd assume most everyone else did.
Let's not waste time here lift. He had work to get back to.
By her new boss and former co-worker. Nodding briefly towards both, she hoped her boss wouldn't judge her too much by the dawdling in the lifts. If she did, she quickly worked up an explanation her head ...

In the dark no one could see it, but Jasper did shut his eyes in a fluttering and wincing manner in effort to try and calm his always fragile nerves. He wished he were in the muggle world right now. Something like this could've been explained as some sort of short and perhaps, something that could be fixed. A failure of magic, though, Jasper found he had never made time to explore exactly what spells kept the lifts at the Ministry of Magic in working order. The sounds slowly started to manifest again and realizing that his hand had been ever tightening around the railing, he loosened his death-grip slightly and took out his wand.
He drew in a ragged breath and spoke. "Everyone alright?" He had hoped it would've come more reassuringly, but he was certain it came across anxiety-ridden. "Lumos!" He lit his wand to check that the other lift passengers were not injured in any minor or major manner.

No. Everything would be fine and they could all keep their hands to themselves.
Once the lifts came to a stop, he glanced up at the flickering light. That...wasn't meant to happen. Neither was the light going out completely.

Before he could conjure any light the man across from him did. "Yes, I'm alright." Because he'd asked. To the woman's question he gave a short shake of his head. "Not to my knowledge. Minor set back. We should have it up and running in no time." He hoped. Magic was a funny thing. Sometimes it was so unpredictable. Like now with this lift.
"For now let's all remain calm. Does anyone have an idea what spell makes this thing work?" Anyone who'd worked here longer than him would be helpful right about now. And just who did one send a patronus to when something broke down?
Oh quick thinking for Jasper's part!
Catching her breath, she realized she had grabbed Mariel's arm out of desperation and shock, and released it once there was light from Jasper's wand.
"Locomotor lifts, perhaps? And perhaps we ought to contact Maintenance." That was THEIR job to make sure stuff was in working order, was it not? Had they been doing their job, then perhaps the lifts wouldn't have broken down. "Unless of course something is blocking them from going..." she murmured quietly, glancing up and down, sideways. Mechanical magic, she did not know.

Mariel raised an eyebrow at the man's words, unable to help the smirk that was hinting at the corner of her lips. Was that a jab at her earlier response regarding secrecy? Or did his job really require confidentiality? She decided on the latter as it wouldn't be too far a reach given the nature of certain jobs in the ministry. "Ah, so it's a mystery," she said with near satire, though not in a mean-spirited way. She wondered if that was indeed his department.
She gave the doors a quizzical look as the lift stopped and they drew open. Odd. She hadn't realized that it would stop to allow more passengers unless they had indicated that floor. Possibly part of a new, effective (to someone) system? She didn't give it much thought, though she did nod politely to the new occupants.
The brunette became vaguely aware of the conversation around her, though she was doing her best not to eavesdrop. She wasn't nosy like that and wasn't all that interested unless someone was speaking directly to her. So she simply looked ahead, waiting for her stop until the sudden jolting and descent of the lift caused her to cry out a surprised, "OH!" Her slightly widened eyes glanced around, somewhat panicked, as the lift stayed still, then they were doused in sudden darkness. Oh she so did not want to die today!
Mariel took a couple deep breaths to calm herself. She knew panic would not do in a situation like this and she reached for her wand just before she saw an illumination. It wasn't surprising that someone had the same idea and she nodded to the man with the lit wand. "I'm fine.." Other than shaken up, but how was everyone else? "Has this.. happened before?" Certainly never when she had ridden them. And she hoped that they would not be stranded there or worse. See.. she knew the lifts had been broken.. she should have just taken the stairs.
Jasper would've answered the World Cup witch's question more directly if he wasn't still somewhat a little in shock at both what had just transpired and also coming to terms with the fact that the witch was certainly possessed of the inner eye too. But, poor t'ing 'er. She didn't even have faith in her abilities enough to have avoided this situation. She'd gotten onto the lift anyway!

Oh, thank Merlin! Jasper hadn't remembered to say anything about remaining calm, probably because he himself was on the precipice of hysterics and it had been considerable work just to obey that idea. But, someone else had said it. The other man on the lift and he was grateful for it. "M'mm, no. Unfortunately, I haven't the foggiest." A regretful tone showed itself in Jasper's voice.
Then the Vendetta Witch spoke up. "Yes, Maintenance. We should send a patronus to Maintenance." Good thinking! Only Jasper's was hardly corporeal on a good day, and hardly more than a puff of luminescent smoke on a day like today.

He didn't want to vocalize his genderist opinions there and then, but Jasper had the feeling that the sound of a sweeter, softer voice pouring out of a patronus might prompt the Maintenance worker to scamper off to help them a bit more quickly than if the voice were male. No matter how frightened his undoubtedly would have sounded. "Would one of you ladies mind sending along your patronus to let Maintenance know we're stuck in the lifts?" He had asked equal parts hoping and assuming they could perform that sophisticated and complex bit of magic.

Mariel might have found it interesting that the slightly older woman in the lifts had been in the same Hogwarts house as she had been if it were not for the given situation. Being stuck in a lift sucked no matter which way she looked at it and, while the present company seemed nice enough, she didn't even know any of their names. Not that she really thought it would matter much even if they were her best friends, this wasn't the most ideal situation.
So she did not comment on the Ravenclaw remark as it was uttered immediately preceding the faulty incident. Instead, it left her mind completely as she focused on the current predicament and the ideas given by the occupants. Contact maintenance.. good idea, and she was actually slightly annoyed with herself for not thinking of it first before the slight panic had risen in her chest. Though she did find it remotely interesting that a patronus was suggested but not actually carried out.
"Certainly," she said, shooting a faint smile in the direction of the mystery man. She pulled out her wand, then thought for a moment. Where was maintenance again? She guessed it was one of those easily overlooked until you actually needed it. But she thought that the daycare and food court and maintenance were all run under the same area.. and that wasn't too far away. She'd send her patronus in that direction. Pointing her wand, she mustered up her happy thought then commanded, "Expecto Patronum!" The silvery Jarvey erupted from her wand and disappeared through the door, hopefully in the right direction.

Jasper's eyes fixed almost hypnotically as the luminescent creature materialized out of the end of World Cup Witch's wand and lit up the dark space of the lift. He found it interesting how contagious someone else's happy could be for it filled Jasper with hope and with a sense of awe to see Mariel's patronus. Was it a weasel? No.
"Is it a jarvey?" He turned to the World Cup Witch and smiled in the bluish light of his casted Lumos. Just then, he felt the lift give another lurch and almost instinctually, he looked towards the ladies to see that they had a hold on the railing before grabbing onto it himself. Just as suddenly, the light had been turned back on and the doors had slid open. His heart was in his chest and he wanted BADLY to unboard, but,...
"Alright, let's get off quickly. Ladies first." And then he and the other wizard could leave that wretched lift behind them. He for one would undoubtedly be taking the stairs here after.

Anthony had came as soon as he'd gotten word...but upon arriving, the lifts were once again working. Had it been a false alarm? Faulty wiring...if that were possible in the Ministry...
He knew the Healers were right behind him...or, at least, he hoped they were. People were potentially panicking and if their employees/visitors needed immediately medical attention, it was best to be on standby.
"Is everyone okay here?" His tone was borderline demanding. This wasn't the first incident with equipment malfunctioning...and it was getting bothersome.

Mariel had watched her patronus disappear, hoping that it would quickly get to the right place and send help promptly. She wasn't a fan of small, enclosed spaces, especially when she felt they could drop to their demise at any moment. Hearing the mystery man's voice, she glanced up at him, smiling a bit demurely. "Yes, it is a jarvey," she admitted. She wasn't sure why, but it felt like something very personal to share though everyone could plainly see the animal emerge from her wand.
But she didn't have much time to think any more on it because the lift suddenly lurched, causing her to throw out her arms to steady herself. She was certain the lift was going to launch itself into a freefall, but she was pleasantly surprised when it stopped and, thank Merlin, the doors opened.
Mariel glanced again at the mystery man, nodding once graciously at his words. "Thank you.." Uh.. she hadn't exactly gotten his name, had she? Well, there would be time later for that.. she wasn't going to stay on this lift one second longer than she had to. Quickly stepping off the lift, she was met with another man, one who seemed to be trying to assess and take charge of the situation. Had he received her patronus? "Physically, yes," she answered him flatly, throwing a backward glance over her shoulder at the other occupants. "Gave us quite the scare though.." She for one was quite traumatized. Who knew what could have happened?

Headed towards the lifts Victoria needed to get back to her desk. She had so many thing to do with the event so close to being here. Her mind was in a thousand different directions. She knew the mascots seemed to be squared away finally, the players were still confirming, now she'd have to make sure they had a photographer going around. Since their old one retired she had been in search for a new good one and none had compared.
Making a mental note to stop by to speak with Saxton, Vic stopped at the lifts to wait for them. Should she go to the Gobstone's office first or should she wait. She was lost in thought when her mind clicked over to Bart and the fact that she hadn't spoke to him in awhile, or how she hadn't spoken to Cosgrach. She hoped they were both alright. She still needed to send an owl to the Board to see if they had some answers. Maybe she'd stop and see if she could get a meeting with the minister about this.
Rushing, it seemed he was always rushing. Deciding to take the Prophet with him for his lunch break probably wasn't the greatest since he'd gotten caught up with reading and hadn't really noticed the time. Luckily the time allotted for his lunch break wasn't quite up and so as long as he took the lifts he should get back to his desk in a reasonable amount of time, and it also gave him time to read the story about Hogwarts. Although he was regretting that immensely since it just made him worry.
Dmitry was so engrossed with reading the paper that he didn't notice that he wasn't the only one waiting for the lifts, which was strange since the lady had been there before he was. It wasn't until he folded up the newspaper, tucking it under his arm that he noticed the lady standing next to him and it took him another minute to realise that she was someone he'd met before. "Victoria," he said, shooting her a brief smile when he recalled her name.

Waiting for the lifts, Victoria's eyes wandered the area. Luckily she was looking around. Seeing a person reading she paid closer attention just in case he would not notice her standing there, but it seemed he did or he was at least done reading. As he took his paper down she recognized him and smiled. "Hello" It had been awhile since she had seen Dmitry, but it was always nice to run into a familiar face.
"How are you doing?" Glancing at the paper she realized what he was most likely reading and frowned. "Awful what's going on there again isn't it? I feel like every time we turn around there is something different." Probably a good thing Quidditch was canceled this year, though she hadn't heard anything else about threats, so as she first predicted just some stupid prank that went way out of hand.

"Hi," he responded, giving her a friendly smile as he folded the paper properly, tucking it under his arm. "I'm good, enjoying being back at work," if one could enjoy work but he'd been getting antsy towards the end of the holidays so it was nice to actually be doing something."You? I'm assuming you're pretty busy since from what Mariel said things were a bit hectic in Games." If Dmitry was remembering correctly Victoria was a Division Head, which meant that she'd probably be busier than most when it came to organising the meet and greet.
Following Victoria's gaze Dmitry realised that she was referencing the article he'd just been reading. "I have to say Durmstrang didn't have nearly as many problems as Hogwarts. Normally I wouldn't much care about school news but my cousin goes there... She seems to like the school, although I'm not sure why," Dmitry told her. He really didn't understand why Stasya liked it there, probably because of the boyfriend, since last year she'd been one of the students affected by the ageing epidemic. "I'm just hoping this isn't too serious. It's worrisome not to have more information." Hopefully the school would be able to sort this out, or someone could determine what started the unusual weather in the first place, assuming it wasn't natural.

Was she enjoying being back at work, most people might take that question and cringe or sigh, “I’m loving it actually. The winter Holiday is always too long for my taste.” Not that she didn’t love spending time with her children, but she just liked to keep busy and days they were at their fathers drove her nuts. “Oh yes, we are. Getting ready for our big event. There is so much to do, I’ve been staying late trying to keep up with it.” Was he noticing the grin as she said staying late, because that made it much better. She didn’t have to sit in a lonely house on kidless nights.
“Yes, my son had been going to a school in Australia but last term went to Hogwarts. I have to admit I liked the idea of him being closer, but now, I wish he wouldn’t have been expelled from that school.” She shook her head, no she’d rather him be there than this mess. “Oh? Bart is the same way. I don’t really get why he likes it. “ After the stroke last term you would think one wouldn’t want to go back.
She had to agree, what was causing it and why hadn’t many done anything about it yet. “I hope they at least communicate soon. That’s what makes me the maddest at times. They never tell us anything. We find out later. I think it’s about time for the minister to step in.” She ddn’t like when they had to get involved, but this was just getting out of hand. “They just had that aging thing last term and now this.” Too much, too fast. Those poor children and what they dealt with from that school.
