This was the part of these events that Harold always hated but he'd put up with it because he loved his sister. Good thing he didn't come along. GinaMarie was stuck in her thoughts once again, this time counting all the reasons it was a good idea she didn't bring her brother as her date that evening. Find Aron. That was her mission right now, though the straps of her silver heels were starting to feel tighter than they were when she left, she was going to make sure she met with her department head before she left for the evening.
Aron of course wasn't difficult to find, especially since he had his son in tow. Oh no. He's not sleeping now... She thought to herself. He's well behaved though...shouldn't be too loud."Hello, Aron." GinaMarie greeted. What was the kid's name? Eh, it wasn't that important...not right now at least. "This has been quite the evening." She commented, everything was quite lovely and the people watching was a particularly fine event to participate in.
...was he supposed to call this sculpture 'artistical' and 'aesthetic'? Because it certainly wasn't.
After some time at the entrance hall, João moved to this meeting spot like some of the others did, but unlike them, he'd halted to examine the sculpture and not like it, really. Well... better to keep those to himself, especially if his 'Department Head' was the Minister himself.
Well... he had little idea who anyone was, anyway, so... standing somewhere not in the middle, it is, and waiting.
Ah! Aron recognized this one from her application. "Miss Fayard, good evening," he said with a diplomatic raise of the hand. "Aron Ashburry-Hawthorne." AKA your new boss.
Claire turned when she heard someone say her name and saw her new boss. She walked over and held out her hand,"Good evening." she said with a smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Ashburry-Hawthorne. I look forward to working with you."

She needed a means of escape, or a distraction, and she got one...
Emily heard his voice before she saw his face, but she was already smiling. Turning away from the group some more, she spied the former Quidditch star, and observed his handsome attire. He scrubbed up well. "Thank you, Mister Recard," she greeted as she accepted the flute. He was as charming as she remembered him, owing to the fact that she hadn't been able to enjoy his company in some time, such a shame. "Superior... to you?" she echoed with a light silvery chuckle. "Hardly." Even if she had a new title, new badge, her own office.. and the responsibilities that came with it, it didn't for a second make her more superior to anyone, let alone Ellis.
Taking the opportunity to distance herself from the meet and greet - seeing as she'd done a fair job of greeting and such thus far, Emily took another step in Ellis' direction. "Enjoyed your holidays? I trust you've been well?" He looked well, but she was beginning to get the impression that he always did, and likely always would. It suit his nature, life of the party, suave and charming, it really was no wonder he had made it big in the tabloids, what with his female fantroop.
There was something about the way in which he seemed to be focusing on her, that piqued her curiosity. Considering his own department head was present, oughtn't he have offered her a drink, too?
"You're very welcome Emily." Ellis didn't bother with her title or calling her by her last name. She may be a department head now but he still knew her before that and would like to think that their...relationship, whatever that may be, would allow him this privilege. "You look exquisite this evening you know. Was it on purpose?" he teased.
Not his superior? He actually liked the idea that she was. *pout* "How about we call it even then? We are both pretty superior?" Not in the bigheaded way just that they were awesome. Made sense in Ellis's head at least.
"My holidays were nice. With family again, I also visited a former teammate of mine in Italy for a few days which was nice." He took a drink from his champagne flute which was a tad small causing his nose to press against the glass. He stood silent for a moment as another man came and spoke quickly to her some words of congratulation. 'Haha, beat you to it bro.' He thought to himself with a grin. He did catch the odd look the guy gave him but he just flashed a smile back.

On the one hand Ellis saved her from fetching her own drink, on the other hand, it meant she'd be trapped here for some time longer. The pro's and con's were evenly weighted, the only bonus was the company, now with Wes present... and of course, Ellis.
Emily couldn't help but smirk. Exquisite? Ellis couldn't have chosen his words differently. "Oh this?" she mused, "Something old I rustled up..." she feigned mock modesty, her tone was light no hint of sarcasm - for once. Of course it was clear she'd made an effort, it wasn't her usual garb. It was light and flowy for starters, and in no way practical... "I'm sure you say that to all the ladies," she concluded, smiling as if she'd won an argument. Truthfully though, she was sure she wasn't the first, nor the last.
Narrowing her brows in thought, Emily considered the significance of Ellis' statement. He wanted her to be superior? Or at least, he didn't seem to be taking no for an answer. "I'm afraid I have to disagree with you there.." not with them being equal, but the term superior didn't sit right with her. Other alternatives would have been nicer, "authoritative might be a better fit...or perhaps, commanding." The gist was the same, only it lacked the obnoxious connotations. But at any rate, sure, they were equally as whatever they were. Emily didn't say this out loud, though she did elbow him in the arm, gently, smiling.
"Sounds wonderful," she replied after listening thoughtfully. Italy was nothing but a vague memory to her now, though she new Siena like the back of her hand at the time. "And how is the family?" she asked, conversationally, wondering how Armen was fairing. Did he know she was friendly with his little brother? Heh. Emily didn't comment on her own break, he hadn't asked, and she didn't feel the need to boast how dull her holiday season was.
Then, Wes. Mmmm, he'd been around, Emily got that.. it was a weird thing that was going on, she had even wondered if he'd be able to make the orientation. She was grateful he did though, give people the opportunity to get used to the fact he was saying goodbye and that it wasn't the end of the world.
She busied herself with people, while Wes and Aron exchanged greetings and manly things... she didn't care. But she did offer Stonewall a sharp nod upon Wes' introduction. The man was right, they really were the best department, and now it was on her shoulders for it to not fall apart.. she could handle that. No pressure.
"Bennett," Emily replied as the Auror left them. It was getting a bit crowded... but she envied her colleague in this instance. What she would give to get away from people and awkward introductions.
At this moment she turned her attention back to Ellis. He would make himself useful and drag her away at some point, wouldn't he?
The tie was gone the minute he stepped out the house, and now, after being here for a while, he was glad he got rid of it. It was pretty warm here, he bet that dancing would've gotten him sweating like a- ahem, anyways. The fountain and the Centaur statue caught his eyes for only a moment before he looked among the crowd for that particular person. His curiosity was too itchy, did she get a date? What became of her ambition after this grand promotion? Would the satisfaction or dissatisfaction show today? He doubted that last notion, but Vic trusted his detective skills to find this out.
There she was. Vic's neutral smile widened as he approached with relative ease. And let's not deny it, Emily looked stunning in that dress, the Centaur statue was nothing compared to her...
... okay, bad pickup line. He was working on those, okay??
"Good evening, mademoiselle." He extended his hand to shake hers and place a soft peck before letting it go. Fancy ball required fancy manners, he was good at those.
For a short period of time.
Now he grinned, almost childishly, "They told me there's a new scary boss lady around here I gotta meet."

Oh! His Department Head recognised him! Of course she did. Hadn't he be required to send in a photo? Determined not to let his nerves get the better of him, Jory smiled and extended his hand, giving the woman firm handshake. "Yes, I am. Thank you, Miss Browne.'' It was Miss and not Mrs, right?
Just then another employee joined them. He too got a firm handshake from Jory. When he heard what Wes said, he couldn't help but smile. "I know. That's part of the reason why I wanted to join.'' Oh! He was leaving? "I wish you all the best then, Mr. Ferguson.'' Jory was curious as to know what Wes would be doing now but didn't think it was his place to pry.
The next person to introduce themselves was an...Auror! Jory was in awe. That was where he hoped to be someday. When he could finally say he made it, he'd become an Auror. "Nice to meet you, Mr Bennett. Jory Stonewall, YATI.'' Too bad Simon couldn't stay any longer. Jory would have liked to hear about his job. But he nodded politely as the man left.

That was entirely unfair in Harmony's opinion. Animals had just as much right to orient themselves as people did and besides, they were a much livelier bunch. Why were so little people radiating positive vibes? The red head was completely confused as she thought it was their job to look approachable so that their new employees could greet them. Some of the looks Harmony was receiving were all together unwelcoming and unnecessary. She didn't feel like approaching anyone giving looks like that. "At least animals are a friendlier bunch." Unless you were dealing with a Nundu or something but none of those had been loose around the Ministry, thank Merlin.
"If you'll excuse me, I think I see some new employees." The young baby recieved a goofy smile and a finger wiggle before Harmony wandered off, ready to introduce herself to the new hires.

"Ms. Winnington-Mae?" Harmony recognized the face from her files and beamed, doing her best to send out welcoming vibes so that the woman would feel more comfortable. "Hello there, I am Harmony Delilah Skylark. I believe you are one of my new employees" An intern. The sort who were still young enough to have the twinkle in their eye. Harmony liked that sort the best. "Are you enjoying the orientation so far?"

"Yes, that's me. Hello!" Chelsea practically beamed, excited to officially meet her boss. It was all becoming so much more real, now. The move from Romania hadn't made it clear enough. Practically fresh out of Durmstrang, and into her first real job. "Please, call me Chelsea, ma'am." If.. that was okay, of course. Chelsea wasn't sure. Ms. Winnington-Mae, was okay too. "Yes, Mrs. Skylark." She was one of the new Magical Creatures employees, so as long as this was definitely the correct Department Head, then yes.
Was she enjoying the orientation? Chelsea smiled politely, "Of course.. it's very nice," The ball, that is. Well decorated, and fancy.. and kind of stiff, but Chelsea had a feeling, her boss would be a fun woman to have around. Just a feeling. A hopeful one. "It's very nice to meet you, ma'am." She added, as an after thought.
The noise level, and chatter of so many different voices, all of it was just so distracting!

At the least the night seemed to be improving, or at least, it seemed that way on the outer. Even if she did have to stand around looking a bit foolish and out of her comfort zone, there were enough people that she liked around to make it bearable. That number continued to increase.
"Good evening, Vic," she greeted in return, extending her hand to shake and was mildly surprised at Vic's gesture. How suave of him. She'd have commented on that and his timing, owing to the fact that she had expected to see him sooner, but wasn't allowed the opportunity it seems...
Scary boss lady?
If it wasn't for his grin, she'd have been inclined to shoot the messenger, not that scary wasn't a compliment, it was... but the message was always stronger when reinforced. As it was, it wouldn't be necessary. "Scary, boss lady?..." she mused thoughtfully, making a show of scanning the crowd around them, all the while sipping her drink. "And have you found her?" she asked, teasingly.
Stonewall's handshake was decent.. something they could work on. He was clearly an enthusiastic and bright eyed kid... for now, but that would change. As for the Miss Browne... er, no. "Please, call me Emily, or if you must, Sir will be fine." That was an order, a clear directive. None of that Miss, Ms or Mrs stuff. She was neither, and it didn't suit her. Thank you very much.

She had been humouring him, and he in turn humoured her. They had a good system going. Emily arched her brows at Vic's comment. Her expression read something along the lines of, oh, reaalllyyyy?. "The dress does seem to be getting an awful lot of attention tonight," she noted casually, slight emphasis on dress. Emily didn't even begin to try to understand its appeal, she didn't choose it, she left it in the hands of the store clerk... who apparently, got it right.
Vic's sincere congratulations softened her smile somewhat, as she did appreciate it, especially seeing as he didn't seem to question it. It was convincing, he was convincing - though that was a part of his job description - to be convincing.

There was that brief moment in which they were just hanging. Just hanging. And she didn't mind it. Everyone was busy and chatting and the noise level - like a swarm of billywigs - was starting to numb her brain. No date? That warranted a smirk. Emily shook her head, "looks like I'm not the only one." Vic also seemed to be lacking an accomplice, a partner in crime.. he was a smart man. Dates, were more work and trouble than they were worth. Who had time for that?

"Promised who? Your sister?" she asked, amused at the idea. She'd have loved to be a fly on the wall for that. Pursing her lips in thought, Emily considered Vic's proposal. Work out, buffet... give herself a short break from the meeting and greeting. "Yes, let's," she replied, linking her arm through his without a second thought. Finally, a means of escape.
"Excuse me," she offered to those nearest as she left.

"Chelsea it is." She was polite, Chelsea was. Harmony could not tell if this was because she was trying to impress her or if it had been taught from a young age but it was appreciated. She wished she could just tell the girl to loosen up though. It was of utmost importance to Harmony that her employees felt they could be their true selves around her. This was something she'd need to address at the first staff meeting.
"Nice but not exactly your thing?" Eyebrows. Harmony sensed that this particular soiree might be a bit boring to someone so young. "Don't worry, it's not mine either." See? They could be open with one another."The pleasure is mine. I look forward to learning more about you." And watching what kind of employee she was. January's laughter was met with a soft smile and an eyebrow raise. Harmony had been completely serious though she was aware of her pun. It was nice to hear such a laugh from one of her new employees. It made the woman's aura glow sunshine-y yellow. "It would also allow me to see you in action. I'm quite eager to see what you're able to bring to the table, Ms. Pennifold." Truth.
Not a hummus fan? Harmony would have to remember this when putting together homemade snacks for the staff meetings. She believed such events went so much smoother when bellies were full. "I always bring my own food to these types of things. You never know what kind of preservatives are in the ones being served." Just saying. As for how long she'd been working, Harmony smiled. "Not too long at all. I've already had a lot of chaos on my hands though. I'm glad to have you on board as we'll certainly need the extra hands."

Something told January she wasn't kidding. Well, a ghost or two would make things interesting, but she surely hope the woman hadn't meant evil spirits. Anyway, January nodded at the woman's next statement. "As am I. I hope you'll find that putting me in this position was the right choice." January smiled confidently. She had a lot of practice, study and work in this field, you know.
Harmony's comments of the food and preservatives made her glance warily over at the buffet table she had visited previously. "Interesting point," she said, looking back at her department head. Maybe it was good that none of the food appealed to her.
"Chaos? What do you mean?" she asked, eyebrows raised, although not entirely surprised. The creatures departments in any magical government were always a little crazy and extremely busy.
"Chelsea it is." She was polite, Chelsea was. Harmony could not tell if this was because she was trying to impress her or if it had been taught from a young age but it was appreciated. She wished she could just tell the girl to loosen up though. It was of utmost importance to Harmony that her employees felt they could be their true selves around her. This was something she'd need to address at the first staff meeting.
"Nice but not exactly your thing?" Eyebrows. Harmony sensed that this particular soiree might be a bit boring to someone so young. "Don't worry, it's not mine either." See? They could be open with one another."The pleasure is mine. I look forward to learning more about you." And watching what kind of employee she was. Had Chelsea not realized it was probably visible in her body language, as well as notable in her tone, she would have thought her boss was a mind-reader. She could just hear Topher's voice in her head 'How cool is that?!', he would say in that enthusiastic, schoolboy voice of his that always made her smile.
She missed her little brother.
"Exactily," Chelsea smiled brightly, not at all ashamed to answer that. The ball was nice so far, but not something she would have chosen to attend at random. It was for work, though. "Really?" Though it came out a question, Chelsea hadn't exactily meant it that way. She was somewhat surprised, but at the same time, not. She could certainly get use to Ms. Skylar as her boss. "Thank you, ma'am. I won't disappoint."
