Kel didn't bother to search very hard for a compartment; he just went into the first empty one he saw. He dragged his school trunk in the compartment behind him with one hand while holding his owl's cage in the other. After setting the cage on the floor, he lifted his trunk onto the rack and secured it. Then, he lay down across a whole seat, his hand on the top of the owl cage. He stared blankly at the ceiling of the train, and all he could think about was that this was the last time he was ever going to ride this train.
