Alphonse stared straight into my eyes and I panicked. I wasn’t completely sure that all the attention that Alphonse was giving me. I felt uneasy. It was probably because no one had ever given me as much attention as Alphonse was doing. “An animal almost gave you a heart attack?” he asked me and I nodded I did not want to go into details about what had happened. “I will tell you another time, I promise.” I told him and he nodded. “I am glad I did not leave you behind.” I looked at him and I lowered my head. I was wondering when it would be the right time to tell him that Zeth had wanted me to leave. I closed my eyes and Zeth’s face filled my mind. I wondered if they were alright. Had they made it to safety? Had they taken any more people besides those few who were following them? My head was beginning to hurt. So many unanswered questions that I did not want to know the answer, because I was afraid of what the answer might be.
“Alphonse, before we left.” I licked my lips. “Before I ran into you, I saw Zeth.” I told him and turned around. “He wanted me to leave with him and Kira. He wanted me to escape with them although I don’t think Kira would have liked that.” I said trying to have a little humor, but it was probably not the best time. “He said we needed to survive that we I needed to care about saving our own race.” I know I had said to much and I stayed quiet. Remembering the night before “I don’t know if they made it to safety, and I am sorry for having separated you from them.” I went down on my knees and bowed “Please forgive me for having taken you away from them.” Zeth just wanted me to go with him. He was probably looking for Alphonse. I had almost lost the only chance of saving my family. I knew Zeth had meant to do good, but if I had gone with him what would have occurred to all these kids? To everyone who we brought with us? Would the dementors have gotten to them? I knew the answer to that. Yes, they would have been victims. If I had gone with Zeth their bodies would have been am empty vessel without a soul. Like the children and guards who did not make it.
“Riker, where did you go earlier?”
Alphonse asked me changing the topic. I looked up and he helped me to my feet. “No need to apologize, it is not your fault now answer my question.” He told me and I nodded. “Well then where did you go?” I blinked. I was attempting to tell him where I had gone and what I had found but I could not find my voice. “RIKER!” I tried saying what, but an eep came out. “What?” I asked and he looked at me. “Fine ignored me.” I shook my head. “I wasn’t trying to ignore you, I was trying to say what. Please forgive me?” I asked him and made the puppy face like Nunually had done to me. |
