And it was a good thing, as the sparks flew.
Vanishing them neatly, and sparing any singes to people, Preston shook his head. "Some more concentration, please, Miss Gibbons."
----------- "Keep practicing," he said, continuing his walk. "There is a limit as to how large you can make the board just by concentrating, but that's going to be dependent on your skill and the leaf itself. So keep at it."
As he walked, he continued to speak. "You could use these boards to create a quick lean-to, using the nails and hammer spells we learned last class. You could use them as a floor, to keep your body away from the wet ground. You could do any number of things with them."
He stopped in his tracks, though. "Remember, though, that this isn't permanent. I would caution strongly against using these materials to build structures that you need to last."[/COLOR] Quote:

Another option when creating shelter is to use poles to support fabric, or even to just provide better framing for boards."
Levitating a branch over to his desk, he set it down. "You can use this spell on branches, drumsticks, lengths of vine, even fabric if you needed to, to create poles. It's simplest with branches, however, and those would be the most likely supplies you'd have if you were stranded in the wood."
He levitated the branch for everyone to see. "Start with wooden poles, but as you improve, you may also be able to vary the material, which could be useful in any number of cases."
Casting a quick fixate on the branch to suspend it in mid-air, he continued. "A simple flick and Palus is all you need. Just make sure to focus on smooth, even poles."
Demonstrating, the branch, suspended in air, became a long wooden pole, not unlike one that could be used, with others, to make a tee-pee. "Practice both spells and after some time, we'll move onto the final."
Mia jumped at the sound of the Professor's voice addressing her and she gave him a small sheepish look. "Yes Sir." She said meekly turning back to her now restored leaf.
Screwing up her face in concentration and sticking her tongue between her teeth, Mia drew another horizontal line with her wand. "Temran Madera." She said with as much conviction as she could muster.
At least this time there had been no sparks from her wand and she had managed to perfect the spell.
Well sort of.
There was now a board but it a big long green stem hanging out the end of it. It was better than nothing. She stopped to listen as the Professor went on to explain the next spell and Mia groaned. She hadn't even gotten this one down pat and they were moving onto the next one. SPOILER!!: Ro Quote:

Fletcher sniggered at Mia's attempt to get back at him and set to work on turning his leaves to lumber. Oh he'd show her, he would.
"Temran madera!" the boy cast, drawing a long horizontal line in the air over his leaves so that his wand hand passed all the way across and over Mia's face. Fletcher had never heard of personal space bubbles, apparently.
The spell did work, though, as there was now a nice, cleanly-cut 2x4 sitting on his desk. Perfect. Now what else were they supposed to do? Conjure a cover? More lumber? Mehhhhh Fletcher didn't want to build an entire structure here in the classroom... that would just be a waste of effort.
Wrinkling his nose in thought, the Hufflepuff had an idea. He looked around to make sure Professor Kingsley wasn't in the vicinity and then quietly levitated his branch up to hover over the center of Mia's head. He fixated it there, a spell he was quite familiar with these days, and then loudly cast,
"PALUS!!!!!"
The hovering branch above Mia's head started to grow, quickly, into a long, thin and flexible tent pole. Of course it had to poke her in the head several times as it grew until Fletcher flicked his wand away and caught the stick. Ha ha it had worked.
"Oh shut up Duuuuncaaaan."
Hehe...she knew how much he hated his name. Mia would do more than grate on his ears if he didn't stop annoying her. What she was going to do, she had absolutely no idea but she would think of something.
Just as she was trying to practice her spell work again, all of a sudden there was a hand in front of her face and she was almost tempted to bite him but Merlin only knew where his hand had been.
The boy was disgusting.
And again as she went back to practicing, out of the corner of her eye she could see what Fletcher was doing and before she could DO anything there was a pole poking her in the head.
That does it.
Mia threw down her wand and raised her hand in the air. "SIRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! Duncan stole the pole I just conjured."
Mwhahaha.
