Here goes nothing, he added unfolding his scarf in front of him so he could practice as told.

"Vestis vellus!" he cast doing the motion in a q as best he could as he pointed his wand at the scarf. Having seen the work of the other students he was trying hard not to let the spell transfigure it too big resulting in a small blanket that just barely covered his desk.

"Reverto..." he answered quietly bringing the scarf back in normal form as he mulled over what he did wrong before trying again.
Professor Kingsley continued his rounds taking note of the efforts of the fifth year. He had no doubt that he would get it, and so continued on.

It'd be even better if you were able to summon your broom too, but who knows if that was able to work. Hehe. It's not like she was going to try it either. Maybe get someone else stupid enough to do it, but it wasn't going to be her persuading them either. At least, not while she was in school.

...

Riiigghhht.

Writing down the incantation and wand movement, Evelyn sat back and tapped her quill on her desk, watching the demonstration Professor Ruffles was doing before glancing around the room.

Right. Wait, they were starting now?

Slowly turning her gaze back to her Slytherin scarf, the fourth year closed her notebook, and moved it to the side of her table, before putting her scarf in the middle. Taking out her wand, for a moment, she took a quick peak over at Destiny...

....

Bahahaha! What kind of blanket was that!?

Snickering, the Slytherin turned back to her own scarf, trying to think of some woolen blanket or such. Or just a woolen blanket in general. Just as long as it wasn't pink. "Vestis vellus." she said, creating the rather simple flourish and curly-q wand movement in front of her towards the scarf.

Well, it wasn't folded per-say... but it was sorta like her original scarf. Mwahaha! She had a Slytherin Blanket now! Beaming at her messy blanket, since she didn't care if it was folded or not (because obviously a folded blanket wouldn't make someone WARM, pffffft), she was just about to revert it back but...

Naaah. She liked it like a blanket. Much warmer.
Preston stopped and considered the Slytherin. "Well done. Now, revert it back and see if you can't produce a slightly different blanket. Thicker, perhaps, or larger?"

Concentration...concentration. This stuff wasn't that different from kendo. Perhaps she had been approaching magic the wrong way. She had used great concentration when fighting that boggart in Charms with Jenny and she had really taken her time to visualize what she wanted it to turn into before she had cast her spell. Transfiguration seemed to be the same. "Thank you professor, I will try harder," she smiled with just a hint of nervousness.

She then turned her attention to the boy she had asked for help as he seemingly effortlessly changed her monster of a scarf back to it's normal state and in a neat little pile on the desk. "Woooooooooow," she whisperer under her breath. "Thanks," she smiled holding her wand out again. "Concentration....visualization....I think I can handle that."

She closed her eyes and visualized a giant knitted blanket that her mother had made. It was the same blanket that she had slept with for years and years and held the strongest impact for her. After she had fixed that image in her mind, she them imagined it folded in a nicely on her desk. The image planted firmly in her mind, she repeated the wand movement and said, "Vestis vellus," still with her eyes closed.

She slowly opened her eyes to see that the blanket was now resting on her desk. A huuuuuuuuuge smile grew across her face. "I did it!"
Preston walked over and took a look at the blanket before smiling. "Well done. Well done."

Touching it gently, he nodded. "Now, how about reverting it back to a scarf and trying again? See if you can make a different blanket."

Louisa blushed again at his words. We're all in a school for a reason, she repeated in her head. That was something really clever to say. He wasn't a Ravvie, was he? She looked up scanning his robes. Slytherin. Even more surprised, why wasn't he throwing nasty things at her and see how firsties would react just like that cocky boy! She pushed the thought away quickly not wanting to corrupt her mood.

"How did you do that?!" She gasped and asked with her eyes wide open staring down at the scarf. "You didn't speak!" And she almost jumped from excitement. You can't blame a firstie.. they were easily hyper-excited.

Looking at the teacher she behaved herself and just nodded at his comment about him trying the spell again loudly although she'd prefer that nonverbal way, hehe. "I think it'd be more appropriate if you stay near while I try the spell again.." She muttered and then added with lower voice. "..please." She wouldn't beg those older students to stick with her mind you.
Preston smiled, before continuing on. Mister Greenwood seemed to be handling helping her well enough.

"Well done! Can you revert it back to your scarf and try again?"

He stayed nearby to see if she needed help with the spell.

But, for the moment, others were calling for his attention. "Ah, yes. I think this is a problem of concentration, so, let me change this back and we'll start again, ok?"

Preston flicked his wand at the scarf and uttered a quick, reverto. "When you want it to go back, reverto and a flick of your wand should do the trick, so long as you're thinking about what the object looked like before.

As for the blanket, close your eyes. Picture the scarf and then imagine that changing into a blanket. What color is the blanket? How does it feel? Is it heavy? Does it cover you? When you have a good picture in your head, cast again."

''Thank you professor" She said as she gave him a nice smile.

She closed her eyes she pictured the blanket she wanted to have in front of her. It was just big enough to cover her and still have room to cuddle with it. It was black and had white stripes down it. As she pictured her blanket she made sure it was a solid picture.
She was going to try and go big for a folded blanket she pictured the blanket folded and with her wand she made a curly Q and said "Vestis Vellus".

She had done it a perfectly folded blanket that was black and white striped llay perfectly on the table. She couldnt hold in her excitment that she did it and let out a "Yes" not to loud but it was heard.
Preston smiled and continued on. She was getting the hang of it and he watched to see if she would try again.

Alice closed her eyes again and visualized how she wanted the blanket to look.

"Alright, here we go," Alice mumbled to herself.

"Vestis Vellus!" Alice said confidently. She looked down at her scarf and smiled widely as she saw that it was now a red and gold striped wool blanket.

"Professor Kingsley! I think I've got it!!" Alice said, holding up her new blanket with pride.
Turning, Preston clapped his hands lightly. "Yes, you have. See if you can make something a little different, now? Larger or smaller or thicker or thinner."

He twirled his wand and smiled at the first year. "Its called a nonverbal spell. You will learn a little bit in your fifth year but you really learn it in your sixth year. It takes a lot of concentration at first, but then it just gets easier as you do it. But don't try it yet, you might put yourself in a coma." he warned her. Mostly it would give her a seriously nasty headache, but he didn't want to be the one responsible for hurting a first year.

Diggy nodded and moved back a little bit to give her some room to work. "I'll stay right here to help you if you need me too," he reassured her with a smile. "Go ahead and give it a go," he urged her gently.
Preston continued to watch the interaction but did not intervene.

The girl nodded and listened to what they were going to be working today.

Oh, yes, she knew that one. If she wasn't right then it was Sandra the one who'd taught her that spell. They didn't practice it much, though. Then again, they were well equipped with all kinds of fur back at school, and being from the North meant they were always prepared for the cold.

She took Sandra's scarf and focused even more than usual, why? One, it wasn't her scarf, though that wasn't the real concern. Two, and the real concern, the non-verbal part, of course. 'Vestis vellus' and all people could see was the wand movement before the scarf was turned into a yellow blanket, a fluffy one, too.

Not being at Hogwarts last year, she didn't know what spell they were talking about, but it must have been 'Reverto', and if not, that was the one she was going to use. Until...she heard the verbal cast of the spell and knew for sure that was the one.

Another flourish at the wand and the scarf was back in sight, the yellow fluffy blanket gone. She wouldn't mention it, but she wanted the blanket back in sight.
Professor Kingsley nodded appreciatively at the visiting champion.

Different sizes? Well, he could see the sense in that; no use transfiguring a blanket sized for a king bed when you were trying to put it on a single. After casting "Reverto", and returning his blanket to its original scarf form, he thought about what size he'd like to try next...

...after folding the scarf, that is.

"Vestis vellus." The folded scarf didn't really grow in height, but it got much wider, and Kellen set down his wand to shake it out and have a look. Towel-sized; also known as a foot-warmer blanket. And much easier to fold up again than the tent-sized blanket that girl over there had just transfigured.
Preston watched, nodding. He had had no doubt about the boy's ability to do the spell.

"Try it nonverbally, Mister Stern?"

"Vestis vellus"

The scarf immediately turned into a huge blanket. Oh yaaay, this was easy. So now it was a blanket and how to return it into her scarf now?

She looked a little confused trough the room.

But, yes, focusing. He needed to focus and to visualize, what? A blanket? Or the transformation?

It was better to do BOTH. Because he was cool like that.

Before starting over with the spell, the boy sighed, and then it came the flourish-whatever movement of the wand, "Vestis vellus" he said, all his focus placed on visualizing the blanket...the blank---Oh my Gilderoy!

Eyes widening slightly, his blue/purple or purple/blue, whatever, scarf was now half a blanket, half a purple blanket, and that couldn't be good.

Eyes narrowed at the creation, he flourished his wand once more, "Reverto!" if his scarf wasn't back to normal, then he'd give this whole class up after OWLs. But...it was back to normal, haha. More Transfiguration for him.

His eyes couldn't help but fall onto the girl, who seemed younger than him, that managed to transfigure (successfully) the scarf into a blanket.

He'll get there. No problem.

"You have to use 'Reverto'" he said, nodding approvingly, and then proceeded to embarrass try the blanket spell once more to show her how 'Reverto' was used.

"Vestis vellus" he said, and did the right wand movement with his eyes closed, only to open them and find out that his scarf was now a purple blanket, oh-so-very-soft purple blanket, YES! He did it! "Now Reverto" he nodded at the girl, "It's simple" for her, because she'd mastered the blanket one, "You make a flourish movement, and then say 'Reverto'...pointing at the blanket, of course" he said, gesturing towards the blanket. But since that was all about visualization..."Reverto!" he said, and he had his purple/blue scarf back. "See?" he was the happiest boy ever.
"Excellent, both of you. And thank you, Mister Lockhart, for showing her the spell. Keep up the good work. Both of you."

Hm, maybe she should have thought of visualization in the first place. As she tried to imagine what her blanket would look like, she pointed her wand at the scarf again. "Vestis vellus!" Jenny gasped; right in front of her was a big, thick blue fleece blanket! Oh yay, it worked!
"You're quite welcome," he responded, watching her complete the spell again. "Much better."

They were going to be transfiguring their scarfs into blankets? Sweetness. That will come in handy when she's camping.....when she's of age. That was a while from now, but she could still use it while in the castle, it was still winter.

Freeeeezing cold winter.

Taking down the last notes about the spell, she watched Kingsley demonstrate before exchanging her quill for her wand. The Hufflepuff scarf sat in front of her on the desk, but she wanted to practice the incantation first. After swallowing her gum of course.

"Veeeeestis veeeeellus.....vestiiiis vellussss......vvvvvestis vellllllus...." Practice, practice, practice. She continued to pronounce the incantation for another minute or two until she was comfortable with it.

Time for some wand work. Ceasing the slow twirls of her wand, she practiced the curly-q moment several times before musing over what kind of blanket she wanted. Hmmm.

Preston smiled as he moved up to the front of the room, taking note of the girl's effort at pronunciation.

-----

"I see many of you are having success. Older students who are finding this easy, try it nonverbally, and others, keep trying to vary the type of blanket you are creating. We will move on to a new spell shortly."
