Alice smiled as she took her place on the imaginary batter's mound. This was just like playing with her dad at home! Alice tapped her bat on the ground a couple of times and took a few loose swings. Despite being right-handed, she batted lefty.
"Whenever you are ready Mia," Alice said with a smile.
Oh okay. She didn't have to go anywhere. Mia decided that she would try and look like someone who knew what they were doing and began to toss the ball up and down while she waited for Sal and Alice to get themselves ready.
Unfortunately the only thing she had managed to do was make herself look like an absolute idiot. She tossed the ball a little higher then she had meant to and when it came back down of course she misjudged it and it bonked her straight on the head.
She was just retrieving the ball when Sal called out for them to 'play ball.' Rubbing her head with one hand, Mia picked up the ball with the other and took her position just as Alice said that she was ready.
Okay Mia, try not to take anyone's head off.
Taking a deep breath, Mia rolled the ball in her hand and then threw it to Alice. It was the worst throw ever. A real lollypop if she ever did see one.
Eh Alice was probably going to smash this one out of the park.
