Not that most people didn't look fairly new to her anyway, having only been at Hogwarts since last term. She waved back, though. That was cute. Since she'd already said hi, she didn't want to seem stupid and repeat herself, so she went straight for the introduction part, watching as Haughtine scanned her robes for information. "You have an interesting name too," she observed, before smiling again. "I'm Grayson." Comment away, as she was used to it. Although Salander hadn't actually said anything about her name like most people did.
A giggle escaped as they were asked about who'd put their names in. "Salander has. I'm not old enough," she responded. "Lots of others have put their names in too. I wonder when the champions will be chosen," she continued, a thoughtful look crossing her features. That was going to be the next exciting step. Unless someone else risked the bird transformation. She wasn't getting her hopes up though. "Thanks. M'grandad gave it to me. On my mom's side they are from Northumberland." She caught herself speaking out of context and drew in a long breath looking upways to gather her thoughts before again directing her attention to the girl called Grayson. "Weeell, what I mean is, it's a family name." There. Now we're makin' sense.
"What about your name? I've never heard it before now and not to offend you, but if I had heard the name Grayson being called out in the corridors I would think that it might be a boy student. Maybe that's a good thing, though. You won't have people thinking you're too girly for anything." She stopped herself when she realized she was babbling and froze at the mention of what must've been the boys name. Salander. Haughtine wondered what possible meaning his name could have and was starting to worry that if she didn't meet some Sams, or Sarahs, or Micheals soon, she was going to forget who everyone was by the end of the week. Although, clearly surprised, the boy seemed remarkably relaxed for what had just transpired. Judging by everyone elses reaction to this goblet event, you'd think he would've thrown the sandwich into the air (rather than letting it hit the ground with a dry flop) and declared drinks for he and Salander then and there to mark the occasion. And the more the two boys spoke, the more Haughtine wondered why the one called Duncan Fletcher didn't offer drinks then and there.
Maimed? Drowned? Eaten by a dragon? Being a champion just sounded dangerous. Who could tell if the boy would live to offer drinks another day?
"Duncan was it?" Haughtine took the back of her hand which was engulfed in her tad too large robe sleeve and brushed her messy hair back away from her face. She stuck out her small hand to shake his. "Congratulations on being chosen to be a champion... I think." Quote:

Said the firstie overlooking the drawing. "You didn't skimp on the details and I like how you've done the shadows there." Haughtine sighed, not out of boredom, but out of worry that she may not learn very much about charms herself. What if it wasn't the girls doing that she wasn't very good at charms. "What classes are you gooda...ohm, my name's Haughtine, by the way. What's yours?" |
