Ling stood by the statues, making sure that his hair hadn't morphed into a nest and that his shirt was unwrinkled. As it stood, his clothes, robes included, were shabby and his hair was a mess despite his many efforts to improve them. He was hoping that he'd be a little more presentable looking when he met up with Ella but so far, there was nothing distinctive in his appearance than before. He was the same old tattered, big-nosed bookworm who sat in the back of the class and kept his lips sealed most of the time.
He hoped she would remember that this was place they were going to meet up. He smiled absentmindedly to himself as a pretty vision of the girl entered his head. He held a bright, yellow sunflower in his pallid fingers, braced to give it to her.
Ella happily walked down the corridor, Ling's book in her hand. She'd finished it - and what a wonderful book it had been! - and wanted to give it back to him. But that didn't explain why her heart was racing so much to see him, now did it? Seeing him, she gave him a huge smile.
"How have you been, Ling?" Ella asked, giving the boy a hug. Hmm.. something smelled very nice.. and fresh. Huh.
"I wanted to give this back to you," Ella told him, showing him the book in her hands,
"It was fantastic. I actually didn't expect it to be that good," she admitted. But it had been. Ling was beyond her with his amazing ways.
"What have you been up to?" she asked, looking at the statues, then back at him.
