Her mind raced fast searching for the most classy reply.

However, Carin started talking. Whether she felt Louisa's hesitant or not, the girl didn't know but felt deep gratitude for taking care of Vashti's question. Louisa looked down and busied herself in playing with her hair while Carin summarized what happened. The best she could do.

Louisa noticed Skye sitting a little bit far from them and talking to Carin. She could see the cold response she gave which made her not step into the conversation. Louisa could wait for a bit before she talked to the older girl, who knew what Skye thought of Louisa after that spell which went horrible.
To let the atmosphere soften a bit, Louisa accepted Carin's suggest immediately, "Yes, of course. It'd be cool to let Astor in Kitty's basket. It's over there on that chair." She gestured to the opposite of this room where a light brown basket laid on top of a chair and a brownish little cat laid there lazily.

She turned to Vashti then while walking towards Kitty, "Really? Cats are meant to be long-time sleepers?" She was surprised and yet relieved. That meant that Kitty wasn't acting like that because she hated Louisa, and that meant a lot to the girl. "I was just wondering why wouldn't she eat when I offer her food and why wasn't she roaming around like other cats."
Carin still avoided looking at either girl as she leaned down and let Astor jump out of her arms and approach Kitty. As black approached brown, Carin wondered if perhaps they'd get along, and if that would help her relations with Louisa.

"Don't worry, Astor spent the first week I had him scratching my arms every time he could," Carin said, showing Louisa the marks on her forearms, trying to make the girl feel a it better. "I thought he hated me, but he's just... Astor. He got used to me and barely ever scratches me anymore, if at all."

Vashti was expecting the explanation to be from Louisa but then Carin was speaking up and explaining to her what happened. Huh. A food fight? Vashti always (secretly) wanted to have a food fight but never actually had. Not at school anyway because, well, obviously they'd lose points. Though, thinking about the situation, they were at least lucky they'd been caught by Professor Kingsley and not someone like, say, Professor Lafay. Oh Merlin, she didn't even want to imagine how that could've turned out. Oi.

"Oh," she finally said after taking a deep breath, as she figured Carin was probably waiting for a reply. "Well, it'll be okay. I mean, at least it was only ten points and not a hundred like Slytherin lost last term. We can still win the House Cup." She emphasized that with a firm nod. Because they were SO going to win this term. They couldn't win the Quidditch Cup (*pout*) but they still had the other Cup to win. "So don't worry about it," she added with a small smile.

It was then that Vashti suddenly noticed Carin's little kitty as well and couldn't help but "AWW!" again. Cats were just soooo cute! She couldn't help it!

She nodded in answer to Louisa's question. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure they are. I think they're usually more active at night too. They sleep mostly during the day," she said. At least, that was what she remembered from a book she'd read.
Carin looked up at Vashti with wide eyes. She wasn't mad? She wasn't yelling... wow. She really didn't know how to respond to that. Tantrums like Enya's she could deal with, but understanding like Vashti? This was new to her. But so, so much nicer.

"Wow, thanks," she said, grinning happily. "And yes, don't worry I'll get those points back as soon as classes start," she promised.

"Astor and cute? Yeah, I used to think so too, until he scratched and bit me when I got him. He's calmed down now though, although he still tends to be less than courteous to strangers sometimes, so I'd be careful at first if you want to pet him," Carin warned Vashti. She didn't mind the other girls stroking Astor and all, but she felt obliged to warn them. Her cat seemed to have a worse temperament than her, after all, and that really was saying something.
