"My heart. When I was born, there were... a lot of problems with it. For a long time, I couldn't handle a lot of stuff... being surprised, being scared, stuff like that." Half-smiling, he shrugged and wrinkled his nose. "It was like, to the point where I could have died from it. But over the past few years, it's gotten a lot better. They told me it's not even a problem anymore."
He gestured to the Goblet.
"Obviously it's not, I mean I put my name in there didn't I. But my mum was even against me trying out Quidditch, because of it." He was probably oversharing, and there was a belated thought that she was probably going to look at him funny over it, but he hadn't thought about that. "I think I can handle waiting. As long as it's not for too long."
Pause.
He leaned closer to her.
"Don't tell anyone about that?" Not that it would be a bad thing for people to know, and Merlin knew it might be common knowledge for some. But he didn't need the whole 'Raiden could have died without being an idiot' thing going around.
Eli's attention was distracted for a moment by the Snake prefect, who was talking to some girl. The purple-haired eavesdropper overheard only snippets of the conversation in the crowd:
My heart... problems... couldn't handle a lot.... could... die... not... trying out for Quidditch, because of it. I think... not too long. Don't tell anyone."
Oh,
innnnteresting. He kept his eyes on the cup, not looking at the tragic Snake Prefect. The little Ravenclaw's eyes were wide. Soooo.. The Slytherin Prefect had heart problems. And he wouldn't be trying out for Quidditch because of it... and he might not be around for too long. But no one was supposed to know?
WOW. Oh, WOW. Eli's mind worked it out quickly, inventing information to fill in what he did not know:
The Slytherin Prefect was DYING of an incurable heart problem. He wasn't supposed to play Quidditch and couldn't handle much at all, and he didn't have much time to live. He should actually be in hospital, probably. And it was a SECRET.
Just
wait until he told Ellie this!
Eli wondered if Professor Vindictus knew. The Slytherins would do ANYTHING to win- what if the Prefect tried to play anyway? He could die on the pitch!
Eli had to tell Professor Vindictus, to save the Prefect from his own Slytherin Ambition.
He put Puck the mouse back into his pocket, waiting to talk to Adrienne so he could go see Professor Vindictus. He kept glancing over at the Prefect, though, and staring at him. He couldn't help it. What if the kid keeled over dead right there on the spot?
