Background
The first thing to note about Dylan is his name, Dylan McCartney: named after two of his mother's idols, a picture immediately begins to form about his childhood. He was born in Limerick where he was raised by his Irish peace protester mother in a 1970s style commune with his older brother Jude. The boys were brought up on the hippy ideals of personal freedom and the yearning to break away from the convention of the 'norm'. They lived communally with many other families where childcare was a collective responsibility between the adults. All possessions were co-owned by all residents and nothing belonged to anyone in particular. Dylan became a self contained, independent and quietly confident person as a result of such an upbringing. Rather ironically, Dylan's father was a military man – a Captain for the British army, whom he knows little about. He can count on one hand the number of times he has seen him in his lifetime.

Dylan started showing signs of magic from the age of nine. He received his Hogwarts letter at eleven and was sorted into Gryffindor with no hesitation from the sorting hat. He was a daydreamer at school, often drifting off into his own world in class, or finding himself bored and doodling on his parchment instead of writing down the potions homework. He passed his OWLs and NEWTS with average grades. He's naturally artistic, appreciating the beauty of Hogwarts from a young age and would spend much of his free time drawing or taking photographs. He was recruited to help out for the Quill and excelled, finally finding something rewarding which he could express himself in a way none of his classes allowed.

When he graduated from Hogwarts, he started his career as an artist. The job soon proved to be of little gain financially, so he turned his skills to technical drawing. He took a job designing packaging for a magical beauty company which manufactures products for vain witches and wizards. He soon moved on from this into photojournalism, taking photos for a major Irish muggle tabloid newspaper as a fully fledged member of the paparazzi. He enjoyed the party lifestyle it offered at first, but soon found the job frustrating and he became disillusioned with it, both for moral reasons, and because he unable to express his creativeness within the limits of the rag. When a position opened at the Daily Prophet for a Editor within the Layout Section, he jumped at the chance and applied. He accepted the job offer and moved to England. He currently lives in Kensington, London, renting a room from his brother.

Personality
Dylan is a bright, cheerful, optimistic and confident character. Outgoing and gregarious, he is not one to shy away from a challenge. His understanding and relaxed attitude makes him likeable and approachable as a leader. He is the salt of the earth, down to earth and very laid back.

Appearance
Dylan stands at five foot ten. He has very dark brown hair and a pair of pretty blue/green eyes. His face is oval in shape and his skin is fairly pale, although it tans in the sun. He is usually seen clean shaven but sometimes allows himself a light stubble. He dresses casually, but is able to scrub up nicely when required of him.
