Emily heard the door to the dormitory open, but she didn’t flinch. She hoped beyond hope that it wasn’t Alicia. She was a bit too hard on her. She was just trying to help you, Emily thought with a sigh.

“Emily, are you in there?” Hermione asked quietly.

“Maybe,” Emily said quietly.

“Want to talk about it?” she asked.

“In a hypothetical situation, let’s say that you liked a boy. But this other girl liked him too and her parents had a lot of power, especially when they joined forces with the boy you like’s parents. And his parents were a bit dangerous if you upset them. If Ginny had said something to that other girl, butting into your business, would you get angry?” Emily asked.

Hermione opened the curtain to Emily’s bed and sat at the bottom, by her feet. “I would probably be upset, but not angry necessarily. I would understand that she didn’t mean any harm from it, she’s just being a friend. Now, what is going on? I saw what happened in the Great Hall with Alicia,” Hermione said quietly.

“Was I too hard on her?” Emily asked.

“I think so, Ems. Y’all are best friends. I’m sure she was just doing what she thought was right,” Hermione said.

“Fine, I guess I’ll apologize,” Emily sighed. “Any idea where she is?”

“I’m thinking she’s still in the Great Hall.” Hermione patted her leg and then stood up. “Come on, I’ll walk with you.”

“Okie dokie,” Emily said. They left the confines of the dormitory and headed to the Great Hall. Alicia was reading a letter, Jamie beside her.

Alicia glanced up once, her hair turning black for half a second before turning back to its light blue. “What do you want?” she asked coldly.

“I wanted to apologize, Ali,” Emily said quietly, taking a seat beside her.

“Go ahead, let’s have it,” she shrugged.

“I’m sorry, but I was upset. Lucius being in this isn’t good for anybody,” she whispered so nobody else could hear.

“Well, it’s not like I did that on purpose,” Alicia said, still not meeting Emily’s eyes.

“I know. And I know I overreacted. Please forgive me,” Emily pleaded, placing a hand on her shoulder.

“I’ll think about it,” she said, shrugging off Emily’s hand.

“Alicia, come on,” Emily said.

“Oh, fine, you’re forgiven,” she said with a smile.

“Yay! Okay, so what are we doing today?” she asked Alicia. “Oh, I have to tell you what happened after I stormed out of here! But not in here, we’ll go somewhere else!” Emily said.

Alicia nodded and the two left the table, Alicia’s letter still clutched in her hand. Jamie followed after them.
