Yes, she would be watching his every move. To make sure the food wasn't being poisoned of course, and even then, he would have to take the first bite. "Is making friends all that important anyways?" she asked, frowning slightly but not at all saddened about what he said. "I mean, you got to travel and see the world. A lot of people hadn't even been able to get out of their hometown, much less a few miles from their actual home." Like her, for example, apart from this past summer of course. "Well, that's good. Gives you a break from it all, and I'd hate to lose a friend so early on." Hmm, friend. Were they friends? All this conversation seemed pretty easy and, he made her laugh. It wasn't such a hard thing to do to make her laugh this year, but at least in the past minutes they have been talking, there weren't any big disagreements, yelling, spells being cast at one another, or thoughts of putting him on the list. So, they were...friends. Huh. "So, you better stay. Or I'll be upset." And an upset Evelyn, no one liked.
Wait, she would be upset? Pffft. That must have been the hunger talking. “Okay”, Patroclus agreed, “It can just be us two.” It would be more fun that with just the two of them anyway, and Patroclus would only have to impress Evelyn, more people would mean more pressure. “Of course friends are important, without them, when I die who will be at my funeral? Destinations can’t come to say goodbye. Never leaving home isn’t such a bad thing, if it is filled with people who love you.” The words poured for Patroclus’ mouth, he was so unaware that these feelings had been lurking within him. However it was good for him to let it out, and realize that he needed more people in his life. Patroclus’ heart could not help but swell, when Evelyn had called him a friend, and asked him not to leave. “I will stay, just so I don’t upset you”, on ‘you’ Patroclus every so lightly tapped Evelyn on the tip of her nose with his finger, it was a loving gesture, so he hoped she would not be angered by it. However it was a big risk, but it felt appropriate. |
