The corner of Victoria's mouth twitched slightly towards a smirk as one of them blinked and cleared her throat, but sat silently. Her eyes roved to the Hufflepuff, who seemed to not want her there. But the other girl had spoken to her, and her attention flicked back. "Victoria Wist," she replied, as politely as possible, barely managing another smile. "What's yours?" she asked, glancing at both of them in order to include the Hufflepuff in her question. But her eyes had landed on the kitten again. "Cute cat. Is it yours?" she asked the girl who was holding it. A slight genuine interest had seeped into her voice; it was impossible to seem aloof when talking about such an animal. They were a bit of a weakness for the first year, though she hadn't brought along an animal of her own that year.
Kylie smiled. She hated how first years thought they were so great. Kylie could kill this chick, she really could. She was by far one of the best witches in the school, not that anyone had to know. She was a closet-genius. But still a genius.
Kylie reminded herself that the girl was young, she'd learn. She also reminded herself that she was once in the girls place.
...Except SHE hadn't acted like that. And SHE'D already been really good with a wand.
"Kylie Matthews." She adjusted the un-named cat so she could shake the girls hand.
"And no, she's not mine. She's Evelyn's."
Kylie was really having issues being nice. How strange. She was usually a total charmer.
