Conviction Or Denial Continued…

They reached the snow covered cemetery. Pushing the rusted iron gate open they stepped in and Sara silently took the lead through the rows of tombstones and reached the last one in the 4th row below a tree. Shaun went past her and stood near the tombstone. He knelt beside it and cleared away the snow to read what has been inscribed on it. He was surprised that name wasn’t inscribed on the stone nor was his date of birth. He looked at Sara and asked about it and Sara looked at him blankly and said nothing. There was a small sad smile. He closed his eyes and yet he didn’t feel a thing.
Opening his eyes he got up and drew out his wand and flicked a wreath out and placed it gently on the tombstone replacing the old one. Sara thought he was slowly realizing it was Rahul but no, she was wrong. He came back to her and looking at her he said
“This isn’t Rahul, Sara. It isn’t Rahul” he said.
Sara began to protest
“No, listen…if you think it is Rahul then why didn’t you write his name and date of birth? why just the date he died?” he asked
“Don’t tell me you don’t know his full name and date of birth. You very well know that, then why?”
“Because I didn’t want him to and didn’t believe him dead even after he was buried” Sara said
“See”
“Please Shaun,” Sara pleaded looking away from Shaun.
“Don’t make this even more difficult then it already is. I have somehow got myself into believing that he is no more.”
“So you want him dead?” Shaun demanded his eyes now furious and Sara was shocked and she paled as the snow covered on the ground. She couldn’t speak for sometime and then
“How, how could you speak like that?” she hissed
“How could you say that I would want him dead Shaun Henry Macmillan!”
“He was as close as my family, he was a confidante, an elder brother to me, a guardian to my brother a backbone for our friendship, Shaun” she spoke her voice aghast.
“Yes, he was and he is and he will be…because he isn’t dead” his eyes still furious boring into her tired red eyes and his last four words forceful.
“You are in denial” she sighed, her voice exhausted and strained.
“No, I am not in denial but it’s my conviction Sara” he said firmly. She looked at him his expression was set. He firmly believed what he spoke and that made Sara’s heart ache because she knew when he would realize what she said was the truth it would break him down many more times than it broke her down. But then she didn’t say a word again.
“I don’t know” she murmured closing her eyes tight …her hands in tight fist
“You better believe me Sara, better believe me” he said still looking down at her
She looked up at him and searched his face but before she could speak again he went past her and walked towards the gate and out of it and then apparated leaving her once again stranded all alone.
She watched him go not able to stop him,not able to make him understand the reality but just let him go“why are you doing this?” she murmured looking at the spot behind the gate from where he disapparated…
