CHAPTER 4: CONFRONTATIONS AND DATES
Emily continued on with her schoolwork and what little social life she had left. Remus and her kept up their mini lessons, though their time together was going to be shared with him after the holidays by Harry’s private lessons. Emily sneaks out three times a week to visit Sirius and bring him some food. They talk for hours at a time about her life and how she was raised. She tells him about all of the stories Remus shared and Sirius adds a few of his own.
Emily rarely talked to George anymore, just a quick “hello” in passing. She still hangs out with Fred and Lee from time to time, but most of her free time is spent with Cody in his hangout.
The full moon is the same as ever, locked in Remus’s office under enchantments from Dumbledore. And as for Angelina, well, things aren’t so great between them. Every time Emily passes her in the hall, Angelina gives her a death glare and a harsh comment to boot. Emily just keeps her head held high and ignores Angelina. She has to remind herself that George is happy and that she doesn’t want to seem like some jealous ex-girlfriend.
Sometimes, Emily lies awake at night, thinking of George. She misses him constantly, but they had a deal. Long-distance friends. She started a few letters to him, but they all ended up being balled up and thrown to the bottom of her trunk.
It was a Friday afternoon, the last one of November, when Cody plucked up enough courage to ask Emily out. They were in their hangout, as usual, doing some homework. Emily faintly noticed how he wasn’t able to concentrate on his work much and that he kept glancing over at her.
“Why do you keep looking over here?” she finally asked him, not being able to take it anymore. He chuckled at her expression.
“Am I not allowed to look in that direction?” he asked back, still grinning.
“Of course you are. Am I not allowed to know why?” Emily’s red hair was loosely on her back and shoulders. She had a few strands pinned at the sides. She was wearing a light blue dress with lime green tights that cut off at the knee. She had blue ballet flats to match her dress, which suited her curves very well. Cody couldn’t keep his eyes off of her.
“Of course you are,” he mimicked. She laughed at his horrible impression of her voice.
“You look beautiful today; that’s why I kept looking.”
Emily blushed scarlet and looked down nervously.
“Thanks, you’re not so bad yourself,” she muttered.
“Thanks, I think,” he replied, also going red.
“So, I was wondering, the next Hogsmeade trip is coming up and...er...I was thinking maybe we could...er...go together...” Cody glanced nervously at his hands and started playing with his quill, not meeting her eyes.
“Like a date?” she asked hesitantly.
“Only if you want it to, it doesn’t have to be...I mean, do you want it to be?” He inwardly cursed himself for being so nervous and anxiously waited for her reply.
Emily wasn’t sure what she wanted. She liked Cody, as a friend, but more than a friend? She guessed that they could go out and see how she felt about the whole situation later.
“Umm, yeah, sure. It sounds like fun.”
“Great!” exclaimed Cody after letting out a sigh of relief.
“So, do you want to meet in the Common Room?” she asked.
“Yeah, that sounds good.”
“It’s a date,” she said before she could stop herself. Cody grinned and she couldn’t help but grin back.
