'What are these people staring at?' Whitney looked around her and found about ten students staring gloomily at something ten feet away.
She looked at Lima and saw that she too had a questioning look upon her face and they both shrugged at each other.
Finally the professor answered their unanswered questions. "These are thestrals. The reason that many of you cannot see what I am pointing at is because you need to have seen someone pass away."
Now Whit understood why those people who could see them looked so depressed. What a way to see such an extraordinary creature.
