Sam kinda got the vibe that Dan was NOT happy to see him, but that wasn't bothering him since he wasn't too cheerful about seeing him either. His stepfather annoyed him.

Without speaking another word, he pushed the button in the lift, and then backed up a little bit as the doors of the lift closed. And then they were off!

He was NOT sitting in silence during the ride.
