Letting her hair loose she looked up to Lady Lawson then back to where she assumed her invisible friend to be. Through all her excitement she hadn't thought about how she was going to get on, after all she couldn't see how big the creature was. Beaming she nodded to Laday Lawson. "Yes please!"
Though she would prefer to ride without it, she placed the helmet on her head. Arya wouldv'e asked to ride without but she figured she was already pushing it by wanting to ride and fly alone.
Stepping over to Arya, Iliana laced her fingers together and held them out next to the winged-horse. "Okay honey, reach forward and grab his mane and then step into my hands and I'll hoist you up."

Excited now she reached for a helmet and plopped it down on her head, it was a bit large and she looked a bit comical but it got the job done if she flew, (which she secretly hoped she'd be able to do) and fell (which she hoped she wouldn't) then she'd be protected. Well her head at least...and there was always the cushioning charm.
Raising her hand excitedly, since she didn't want to leave the spot she was in for fear of the thestral going away, she bounced in place a bit.
"Please Lady Lawson...Please may I ride alone too?" Her little face was one of hope and childlike excitement.
"Of course, Ivory. Just PLEASE be careful." She smiled at the little Ravenclaw and started towards her, just in case she too needed assistance.
"Can you get on?"

Raising his hand he asked Mrs. Lawson, "Do thestrals need a running start to take off? If so how many metres?"
Patroclus was buzzing, this was the best way the lesson could have gone.
"No Patroclus. They take off just like the Abraxans do. Just a step or two forward and then UP! in the air."

Marcus couldn't do it. He just couldn't open his eyes while he was in the air. He had only managed to fly once and that he did for Iliana but it seemed that it wasn't going to be a regular thing for him.
So with his eyes firmly shut, they hit the third turn and it was a sharp one and he was quite unprepared for it. Perhaps if he had of had his eyes open he probably would have saw it coming. As it was he didn't and so he was about to pay the price for it.
Because the turn was so sharp the thestral tilted downwards and Marcus felt himself slipping sideways. He made a grab for the thestrals mane but it slipped through his fingers. His hands flailed around him but it was no use he was sliding off before the thestral could right itself.
There was a few seconds there where he felt like he was suspended in mid air and then the air was rushing passed him before he hit the ground. Lucky he had placed a cushioning charm on the field otherwise that would have hurt.
His body bounced a couple of times and he had enough time to look up and see Evelyn cross the finish line. Marcus laid back down and groaned loudly, he was never going to live this down.
Iliana watched as her husband (the one that HATED to fly even with her) attempted to race. She took a deep breath as he began to fall (whether it was from fear, or the pain slicing through her, you'd never know) and pulled out her wand to slow his descent.
She flinched when he hit the ground and quickly waddled over next to him. Smiling down, she rolled her eyes, shook her head and asked, "What in heaven's name did you think you were doing?"
Her hand found its way to her stomach again but she quickly played it off by brushing away some imaginary dust. Then she leaned forward to help Marcus up.
